I will say that the changes to the bylaws regarding abortion and same sex marriage are troubling.
It’s how you consistently win a national campaign. The abortion issue is settled and if a national ban is pushed the left will get even more radical than they already are. And most of the country has no problem with gay marriage
Don’t know what they changed regarding ssm, but the abortion question says it’s for the people of the states to decide. Which is both constitutionally correct and politically tenable. Our position has been “overturn Roe” for as long as I can remember. And we won.
I find abortion appalling in pretty much all cases, but damned if I want to rack up L’s in every other policy arena because I took a maximalist position on something women need to figure out with God. McConnell did his part too, as did the millions of 2020 voters who stayed home, but the threat of a national abortion ban is one of the big reasons there was no red wave in 2022.
I am as strongly pro-life as almost anyone I know, but I have been saying for decades that the issue is one of the heart and will never be solved legislatively! If our laws and our tax policies strengthened families, allowed mothers to be home with their children if they want to be (which many do, but are embarrassed to admit), and the schools went back to teaching the 3 Rs, occupational classes, and basic civics so that young people could get a decent job without needing a 4-year education/ indoctrination at an overpriced University, I think the number of women seeking abortions would naturally decline.
On top of that, medical technology has advanced exponentially in the last 40 years and that information needs to be absolutely available so that women can truly make informed choices.
There’s no way government should be providing one dime of tax money to Planned Parenthood or any other “pseudo” Health Organization.
And finally, and most importantly, we need to be much more proactive about protecting our kids’ innocence and shutting down all the avenues in the media and the schools that are pushing them to get involved in physical relationships long before they are ready to handle the consequences. This falls on families and churches because every time the government gets involved immoral issues everything gets more screwed up!

Dang. My grandma told me that a Pediatrician we saw once in a while (and us kids really liked!) did them back in the 40’s , 50’s and 60’s in CT. where not only abortions, but also Birth Control were illegal.

And as for the debate over Same sex marriage, I think the entire 16th Amendment should be overturned and the IRS dismantled. Then, marriage would be an institution ordained by the church and the church alone would set the terms for who they would or would not marry.
If someone wanted a civil union with another person that would be a civil matter but there would no longer be any tax incentives for it. Ditto for health insurance being all tied up with your employer rather than on an individual basis which would, again, get the government out of everybody’s business!
Revamp Social Security so that any money you pay into it goes into YOUR account, to be withdrawn by you when you retire, or left to your heirs if you die.

My late wife was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Body Lewy dementia. She was prescribed donepezil which seemed to help. For about six years everything seemed normal. We traveled, went out to dinner, to concerts, plays, the symphony and family gatherings. Life was good. I knew the disease was progressive but everything seemed fine to me. We started dating in high school, had been married nearly 60 years, I was blind to the changes that were happening. Then suddenly she started having trouble completing sentences so I completed them for her. She started having trouble reading so I read to her. She started to wobble when she walked and her gait slowed so I slowed down and she leaned against me. To me this was all part of aging, not a degenerative disease which I was well aware of. I compensated, made excuses. She was still the girl I knew at 16. Then one day, with no indication there was a problem she bolted from the house. It took nearly an hour for police to find her, followed by a trip to the ER. Several similar incidents followed over the next several weeks, but it was a fall in the bathroom and ten days in the hospital that resulted in my wife going to a memory care center. I realize now that although my wife received excellent medical care from the very first diagnosis, I was in a near total state of denial the entire time.
That’s heartbreaking PFB, I’m truly sorry for your troubles. My 94 year old dad about the same now.
PFB — I too am preparing for the day that that demon known as Lewy Body takes my bride. I hope to celebrate our 43d anniversary in September. I hope! She was diagnosed five years ago, and it breaks my heart to watch the decline. But, no matter what, she’s still my girl.
Hold on to your memories and keep your love for her in your heart. And remember that, for your girl, there’s no more pain — no more confusion — no more stumbling. Just a lot of smiles as she watches over you.
