Like Sundance, I was hoping for Dr. Carson, but hopefully Vance is loyal to Trump and the cause and legit America first.
Let’s go!
Saw JD Vance in person at a Trump Rally in Ohio. My gut feeling was I liked him. It was a way better gut feeling than I had about Pence. One thing I’m not thrilled about is Gov. DeWine gets to pick his replacement for Senate. In any case, Vance is the one President Trump selected. At this point, I’m happy to support Vance for VP, wish him the best, and am cautiously optimistic.
Pence was a long time “go along to get along” GOP Establishment drone.
Vance in his short tenure in the Senate has been very vocal about how the GOP Establishment =-= and McConnell in particular — have been the problem, and not the solution.
The only real disadvantage of Vance is since he’s had only a short time in the Senate, he hasn’t built any close alliances in that body.
Or, perhaps that is a strength as well!
I’d look at that as a strength.
Less baggage to be blackmailed by the IC.
But enough experience to know who’s who and who’s what.
At this stage of the game, I’ll trust Trump! Billionaires don’t make too many bad decisions and they tend to learn from their mistakes!

It seem weird to me that an appointed successor would get to serve almost two years before he or she would have to face an election.
It is the next Congressional election.
Much more like the what our founders intended to be selected by state body.
Hoping that I am very wrong about distrusting JD Vance. Praying he turns out to be the greatest Vice President that our heroic President Trump and America needs and deserves!.

There is no “perfect”. Ben Carson was not an option.
I get the concern about Vances’s Deep State connex, but please don’t forget that can work both ways. Of all the candidates, Vance has the best qualifications across the board, plus toughness, if (God forbid but let’s be realistic) he were needed to step up as president.
One of my own kids has not dissimilar connex, and, not personally knowing Trump in 2015, and being overly lobbied by his buddies and various Pentagoners, also had some stupid political ideas back then. He’s learned better. I myself to my now everlasting shame was favorable to Mattis and gave a recommend.
And don’t forget how many of us now MAGA originally had doubts about Trump, and maybe initially before the escalator ride, were leaning Cruz or other faux.
Bottom line is that it’s very hard to know; none of us is perfect either, or has a crystal ball.
The good part is that the VP position, of all of the political, cabinet, appointee positions, is very controllable and definable by the President. We have all learned, and so has Donald Trump.
I choose optimism. The alternative is not an option.

I had grave doubts about Trump throughout the 2016 campaign. I held my nose and pulled the lever simply because I know how truly evil Hillary Clinton is, along with everyone in her orbit. Trump far exceeded my expectations as president. Unlike many here, I didn’t have a VP “pick.” I could find a reason to like or dislike ANY candidate, including Ben Carson.

I read PDJT’s Truth Social announcement and was watching various live streams. I did have some internet problems, but, I never saw PDJT do the formal announcement of JD as VP. Did I miss it?

I read JD Vance’s book “Hillbilly Elegy“ long before he ever entered politics. What struck me most is his first-hand knowledge of the plight of “the forgotten men and women“ of America’s working class. The Vance family is a perfect example of people who lived the prosperity of mid-20th century America and the decline into poverty and despair with the rise of globalization.
Here, I thought, is a man who understands Trump and Trumpism. He knows what America First means because he’s lived the devastating impact of globalism and America Last.
The most important formative experience in his adult life was attending Yale Law School. A poor kid from Middle America Marine veteran was ushered into the Ivy Leage and became a naturalized member of the East Coast elite.
I was a little put off by his “colonial cringe” – the tacit acceptance that the elite to which he now belongs is better than the people and place he came from.
I hope sincerely that seeing the political elites up close has knocked the scales from his eyes.
the thing is …he had a chance in 2016 to vote for the man who was FOR the Forgotten Man and Woman….but he instead voted for Hitlary and condemned Trump.
I’m not in the least bit enamored with Vance or his story.

This is the least consequential role in DC politics. Pence mattered, but Vance isn’t Pence. I don’t like his funders and connections, but he has been the lone near MAGA in Senate for the past couple of years.
I hear Max’s position, as my view is that I am automatically suspicious of any pol who’s carrier _hasn’t_ been pilloried by the establishment. Cynical perhaps, but there it is…
JDs political career began during Ohio’s 2020 Republican Senate primary race. He was immediately despised by the Establishment and has only gotten worse since PDJT endorsed him and he wound up beating the popular Establishment Democrat incumbent.
Since then he’s become bffs with Don Jr and proven to be Trumps only reliable Senate ally.
Given the man he’s running with has survived at least one assassination attempt that we know of, I’d say Vance may have more of a role in what is to come than the traditional least consequential one.

I’m not sure when the invitation was extended, but I think I saw that President Trump had posted something about she should have been included, probably on Truth Social (which I’m not on). So I thought the invitation to her was at his request.

I said here days ago (or maybe it was on Powerline?) that there is a group of younger bench Republicans that showed promise but that needed more seasoning and building of trust. I mentioned Donalds, Stefanik, Vance and Ramiswami.
I was pushing Nunes as the right age, experience, trust and MAGA.
I love Carson but felt we needed someone who would be up to the job. From 2024-2028, and then President from 2028-2036. 14 more years. That’s not Carson. Make him Surgeon General and task him with clearing out the COVID nuts.
I’ve seen all the years old anti-Trump rhetoric by Vance. I’ve also watched his development through running for Senate and despite the earlier rhetoric getting Trump’s endorsement. I share concerns about another Ivy league lawyer, but appreciate his time in the Marines and his story growing up poor and blue collar. I’ll trust Trump and give him an open mind and a fair shot, but I’ll call him out if I smell something fishy. He has four years to convince me he is truly the younger generation’s torch bearer for America First.

While Vance wouldn’t be my choice, I will trust that President Trump knows more about him than I do. I have to laugh, the whole “brokered” convention issue dissipated like vapor after the attempted assination of our President Trump. I had been hearing about this from my brother who listens to gal by the name of Michelle Moore (podcast). I kept telling him this is nothing new but he was convinced.
Hearing the VP choice was JD Vance didn’t disappoint me. My first selection was Dr. Carson but JD was my 2nd choice. I was just happy it wasn’t Burgum/Rubio/Tim Scott. I really would have been disillusioned if it had been one of those.

And they refused to recess so he could not do recess appointments. Hopefully McConnell gets voted out as the Republican leader and Hopefully Trump wins with such a landslide and Mandate that they have to give his choices hearings and votes for confirmation

What’s the imagined relevance of this personal opine at this particular time in human history?
Think pragmatically more than looking for ideal perfection.
Vance is literally half of Trump’s age. He has a personal story that transcends politics and is of interest to non traditional Republican demographic groups.
His history isn’t perfect and has some things that need clarification in due course. But so does everyone. Given his age and background nothing in his past is so damning or potentially destructive.
Maga has to grow and carry on after Trump. If he, in his wisdom, endorses Vance then he must see him as his succesor. He will have four years to learn, grow, network and face tough situations. He should be battle hardened in four years. And in the prime of life in his forties for eight more Maga years.
Not to say that everything goes 100% for he and Trump. But they look like as good a pair of savvy, shrewd fighters as could’ve expected going forward.
In the present he will literally be a Trump apprentice. But with his own independent skills and motivation. And with an attractive presence for this campaign.His best road forward is to earn the trust of the Maga base and take the handoff from Trump in four years.
