Combining this video praising JD Vance, which DJT Jr just posted, along with the news that he (Jr) will be the one making the announcement of the VP selection next Wednesday night at the convention, I think the odds on it being Vance just went up exponentially. Given we have a president in his dotage in the White House, what about the nuclear deterrent? We are told he has a team for such matters. What does that mean? Or should we revisit the whole topic of deterrence?
I remember when President Reagan met President Gorbachev in Reykjavik, Iceland, and he proposed eliminating the nuclear weapons. Gorbachev turned around and went home, because making that decision then would have been impossible for him. I think now, given the dotager, the topic of strategic arms reduction should be a priority. The world doesn’t need these bombs or any of them accidentally launched, so lets start talking about getting rid of them.
I don’t remember it that way. Gorbachev wanted Reagan to negotiate away the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) and Reagan said no way and left. One of us is wrong. The USSR Could not keep up. Thus the fall of the Soviet Union.

What I remember is that Reagan was the one to propose eliminating nuclear weapons entirely, and he and Gorbachev almost agreed to do it. Star Wars was the excuse Gorbachev used to back away from the deal. The Britannica essay on the Reykjavik Summit, I think, bears that out.
I was alive then. The MSM was appalled than Reagan would not negotiate away “Star Wars” to get the “no nukes” deal. They tried to beat him to death with it. But as I say, it was the match that lit the fire of the fall of the Soviet Union.
We cannot un-invent a weapon. The only thing that eliminates a weapon is obsolescence, when a better weapon becomes available. If some countries destroy their nuclear weapons, the countries that don’t will rule the world.

There is a cohort of parents who proclaim that they want their children in touch with them at all times.
In a true emergency, the school can call the parent or relay a message to call home to the student.
Not being a smart ass, but you have no idea the problems cell phones have caused in the public school system. Another of the last nail of reasons why I retired.
I’ll be interested to see how they enforce it with the usual and customary finger youth give authority. Also, executive order isn’t a law passed by a legislature. Can’t school districts have their own ‘executive orders’? How do they enact rules of conduct historically?

Acting Gov. Dan Patrick has levied accusations against President Biden alleging that the president has misled him, Gov. Abbott, and the people of Texas by ending a Major Disaster Declaration the same day he granted it.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency published a press release on Wednesday detailing the president’s approval of a Major Disaster Declaration following the destruction wreaked by Hurricane Beryl.
A Major Disaster Declaration is required before the federal government grants FEMA aid to assist in covering costs incurred by the state following a natural disaster.
According to FEMA, Texas has been given access to federal assistance to help pay for hurricane damages between July 5-9.
Yet, because the declaration ended July 9, Texas will not be reimbursed for any expenses incurred after that date.
“He [President Biden] pulled the rug out from under the people of Texas and lied to them,” Patrick posted Thursday on X.
Additionally, the declaration only approved federal funding to cover expenses in 67 counties.
According to Patrick, the president broke his promise to the acting governor on a phone call to administer aid to 121 counties.
“The bottom line is this: President Biden lied about reaching out to me from day one, our declaration request, and the aid he said he would give Texas,” said Patrick.
“Biden is the first president in history to weaponize FEMA as a political tool, which is completely unacceptable and unethical and undermines the relationship states have with FEMA.”

Over a million homes are without power in Houston, and temperatures here in July are brutal. Worse, since real estate in many areas is so expensive, several retirement facilities for seniors are high rises without backup generators. For those who use oxygen machines it may even be fatal, on top of the fact that the elderly are more susceptible to heat illness or death.
We know of a case in a past power outage where young parents were unaware how hot their second story nursery had become. It cost them the life of their baby.
Hotel rooms are unavailable even if a family can afford the expense. We have a generator but didn’t lose power, so we are sheltering our daughter’s family of seven. We don’t know when they will have their electric restored. There was a terrible windstorm here in May with power outages and many people had just barely gotten their lives back to normal when the hurricane hit.
Centerpoint, the company with the electric monopoly, appears to be making little effort to restore it. Crew from out of state are sitting idle and not doing repairs yet. I wonder if it because the Biden admin is playing politics with people’s lives here.
If so, just one more act of evil that will cost lives.

They upheld a federal district court’s ruling concluding the same and directed the FEC to conform its findings consistent with the judge’s decision.
In a separate matter, the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee agreed in 2022 to pay $113,000 to settle an FEC investigation into alleged violations of campaign finance law in relation to funding the infamous Steele dossier during the 2016 race, according to the Associated Press.
