Donald Trump would easily beat Vice President Kamala Harris in a presidential election, according to a new poll.
A DailyMail.com survey of 1,000 likely voters found that Trump would defeat Harris by 11 percentage points in a head-to-head race (49 percent to 38).
The poll took place amid ongoing speculation that Harris could replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s 2024’s nominee following his poor performance in the CNN debate with Trump on June 27.

Donald Trump seeks delay in classified documents case after immunity ruling –
Former President Trump is beginning to leverage the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity ruling in his classified documents criminal case.
In court papers filed Friday, Trump asked U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon to halt most proceedings in the case until she resolves Trump’s immunity defense. His lawyers proposed a written briefing schedule that extends through early September, meaning a ruling wouldn’t come until at least the fall.
“Resolution of these threshold questions is necessary to minimize the adverse consequences to the institution of the Presidency arising from this unconstitutional investigation and prosecution,” Trump’s attorneys wrote in their motion.
The request marks the latest fallout from the Supreme Court’s landmark decision on Monday that carves out at least presumptive criminal immunity for former presidents’ official acts while in office.
Special counsel Jack Smith previously contended he has not charged Trump over any official acts in the documents case, but Smith’s team now must grapple with the Supreme Court’s broad shield, which further specifies that official acts cannot come in as evidence either.
“Questions about whether the President may be held liable for particular actions, consistent with the separation of powers, must be addressed at the outset of a proceeding,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion.
Trump’s team on Friday requested Cannon halt the case except for Smith’s pending request for a gag order.
In their motion, Trump’s lawyers also latched on to conservative Justice Clarence Thomas’s solo concurring opinion in which he questioned whether Smith was lawfully appointed.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that he took seriously US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s comments that he could bring about a quick end to the fighting in Ukraine.
Trump had said during a debate with President Joe Biden last week that if elected, he would have the conflict “settled” before he took office in January 2025.
“The fact that Mr. Trump as a presidential candidate is saying that he is ready and wants to stop the war in Ukraine, we take that quite seriously,” Putin said at a press conference in Astana.
Russia usually refers to its military offensive on Ukraine as a “special military operation.”
Putin added that he was “not familiar” with Trump’s specific proposals to end the fighting, now in its third year.
“That, of course, is the key question,” Putin said.
“But I have no doubt that he says it sincerely, and we support it,” he added.
Putin has always claimed to be open to talks on ending the conflict, though last month demanded Ukraine effectively capitulate as a precondition of a ceasefire.
The Kremlin leader had called for Ukraine to pull its troops out of the south and east of the country, vacating territory currently held by its forces, if it wanted Russia’s offensive to end.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly rejected the idea of a temporary ceasefire, which he says Russia would use to regroup and rearm.

Nashville Judge I’Ashea Myles has decided that none of Nashville school shooter Audrey Hale’s writings should be made public, accepting the dubious argument that Hale’s victims have copyrights to the material—even though the victims haven’t registered with the federal copyright office.
“The materials created by Hale are exempted from disclosure based on the federal Copyright Act,” Myles said.
“Whether or not an original work of authorship has been registered with the federal copyright office is germane to the amount of recoverable damages in a copyright infringement action, but it has no bearing on whether or not this state law is preempted by federal copyright law,” she said.
The judge also ruled that disclosing Hale’s writings could inspire copycat killers, disregarding the testimony of an expert psychologist who said that there’s no evidence to support that copycat theory.
Myles is the same judge to trample on the First Amendment by threatening a newspaper that’s already published some of Hale’s writings. According to Myles’s Thursday ruling, the evidence held by law enforcement includes more than 100 gigabytes of data.
Police have said the writings that they collected as part of their investigation into the March 27, 2023, shooting at the Covenant School that killed three 9-year-old children and three adult staff members are public records. However, they have said they cannot be released until the investigation is over.
Despite law enforcement’s attempts to keep the manifesto secret, the first three pages the purported manifesto were leaked to conservative broadcaster Steven Crowder last November. The Nashville Police Department reportedly suspended seven detectives over the leak.
The portion of the manifesto that was leaked purportedly revealed Hale, who identified a transgender, had been planning the school shooting for years, and that she deliberately targeted “white privileged” “cr*****s” and “f****ts.”
“Can’t believe I’m doing this but I’m ready… I hope my victims aren’t,” Hale wrote. “My only fear is if anything goes wrong. I’ll do my best to prevent any of the sort. God let my wrath take over my anxiety. It might be 10 minutes tops. It might be 3-7. It’s gonna go quick. I hope I have a high death count. Ready to die.”
The more recent excerpts published by The Star reveal Hale’s transgender ideation.
“2007 was the birth of puberty blockers and a newfound discovery for treatment of non-conforming transgender children,” Hale reportedly wrote. “I’d kill to have those resources.”
It appears that the vast majority of Hale’s writings have yet to be released.

The reason these comments should really disturb Democrats is because if there was any kind of silver lining to include here, any single ray of sunshine, Sabato would have pointed it out, but there is no good news for Democrats.
