Hello fellow Treepers. I’m not a regular in this daily thread but I do read daily, to inform myself. I’ve just got to say what a blessing and encouragement this site is. Sundance, thank you. You have a gift of explaining in granular detail that which feels convoluted and confusing. I now understand that it is intentionally so. Thank you all for being a merry fellowship. I’m 37 and raising 2 sons in the people’s republik of kalifornia. I find encouragement and strength here to live my best life. Anderson Cooper Challenges Ex-Biden Advisor After Political Analyst Says ‘Cognitive Decline’ Present For One Year

CNN Political Analyst Carl Bernstein told Cooper several people “very close” to Biden are “adamant” that the Democratic president’s “horror show” debate performance was “not a one-off.”

“There have been 15, 20 occasions in the last year and a half when the president has appeared somewhat as he did in that horror show that we witnessed. And what’s so significant is the people that this is coming from, and also how many people around the president are aware of such incidences,” Bernstein told the CNN host.

Bernstein described an incident at a fundraiser in June 2023 when Biden “became very stiff” at the podium. He said a chair had to be brought to Biden as he completed his remarks.

“He started at the podium, and then he became very stiff, according to people there, as if it was almost a kind of rigor mortis,” Bernstein said.

No figure of modern French history is as honored as Charles de Gaulle. His name has been given to more streets, avenues and monuments in France than to any other man of the nation’s past. French politicians – right, left and center – invoke his name and claim his legacy.

In 1940 he refused to accept his country’s defeat by Germany, and from London he founded and led the pro-Allied “Free French” force during World War II. From 1944 to 1946 he headed the provisional government of France. In 1958 he was called from retirement by popular acclaim to resolve the seemingly unsolvable crisis over Algeria. He demanded, and got, a new French constitution with a strong executive, which established the “Fifth Republic” that has endured to the present. During the years that he dominated his country’s political life – 1958-1969 – he charted an independent foreign policy, tied neither to the US nor the USSR, and strove to make France the preeminent nation in Europe. Like other great historical figures, he was hated as well as revered. He was the target of more than two dozen serious assassination attempts, two of which nearly succeeded.

After childhood and youth in a comfortably middle-class, traditionalist, Roman Catholic family, and a good education, he chose a military career. He did well at the Saint Cyr military academy. During the First World War, he served with distinction, was wounded in combat, and was taken prisoner. After the war, he rose to the rank of colonel, and lectured at a school for officers. He attracted some attention for his writings on military affairs, in which he made the case for a more “modern” and “professional” army.

Two days after German forces struck against Poland on September 1, 1939, France and Britain declared war against Germany. Even after Hitler’s forces quickly subdued Poland, the leaders in Paris and London still believed that the German Wehrmacht was overrated, and remained confident that it was no match for their combined forces. After several months in which the French declined either to accept Hitler’s offers of peace or to launch any serious offensive against Germany, German forces struck westward on May 10, 1940. In the battle for France, de Gaulle proved himself a daring and innovative commander, especially in his deployment of mobile and tank forces.

With French defeat imminent, the 49-year-old de Gaulle made the momentous decision to turn his back on his military commanders and government. Breaking his oath as an officer, he flew to England where he declared himself the embodiment and savior of France. “It is indeed hard to exaggerate the extraordinary nature of the step that de Gaulle was taking,” Jackson remarks. “Equipped with two suitcases and a small stock of francs, he was heading for a country in which he had set foot for the first time ten days earlier, whose language he spoke badly, and where he knew almost no one. He was going into exile.

Jake Tapper has apparently had enough. No more covering for Biden–at least that is what he is signaling here.

He didn’t use the term “gaslighting,” but that is what he is describing in no uncertain terms.

The media has a problem they have to solve: their own credibility has been severely damaged, and part of the damage control will require them to throw Joe Biden under the bus. They will want to put the onus on the Biden people now that Slow Joe’s decline is undeniable.

That will require blaming others, and the Biden surrogates are the easiest target.

This isn’t just Tapper; you will see more and more mainstream media folks no longer denying Biden’s decline, but rather shifting the blame for why it was covered up to the Democrats.

From an unusually good source: Obama’s tweet supporting Joe Biden was disingenuous. In private, Obama is telling people Biden can’t win, and he is therefore in favor of an open convention. Obama will not say whom he supports, nor as of yesterday afternoon had he met personally with Biden to deliver the message. Relations between the Obamas and the Bidens have never been warm. At times they’ve been hostile. But recently they’ve deteriorated further, mostly due to Jill Biden. In the hours and days after the debate, she kept her husband cloistered away from anyone who might convince him to drop out. Jill Biden is the driving force behind her husband’s reelection campaign, just as she was in 2020, when other members of the family (including Biden’s sister Val) considered him too impaired to run. The next generation of potential Democratic candidates understands all this as an opportunity and they’re circling, particularly Gretchen Whitmer, who is promoting herself aggressively.

    Still hanging over the “Joe Biden” crisis — and it is a crisis — is the question as to how somebody no longer capable of leading a party in an election can also be capable of leading the executive branch of the USA as Commander-in-Chief. If our choice is Biden v Trump, I will be voting for Donald Trump

I never thought I’d write these words; but Joe Biden is already physically and mentally unfit to be President, and he cannot possibly serve another four-year term.

Donald Trump’s unwillingness to accept he lost the 2020 election – which was unfair but in no way stolen – is dangerous. Trump’s personal flaws are obvious. He’s a blowhard, an egomaniac, obsessed with celebrity, and willing to say whatever pops into his head, true or not, if he thinks it will score points.

But Joe Biden is all those things too. (Anyone who doubts that reality should read up on his failed 1988 Presidential campaign, which happened at a time elite media organizations still reported honestly on Democrats.)

And Biden is one more thing that Trump isn’t.

He’s demented.

He’s 81 years old. His cognitive and physical decline is visible in practically every public appearance he makes. Doctors aren’t allowed to diagnose people publicly, but I’m not a doctor. It’s obvious Joe Biden has some kind of age-related neurological illness, probably either Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s.

Venezuelan migrants allegedly choke, rob Chicago man on train, video shows

The violent knifepoint attack saw one of the migrants put the man in a vicious chokehold, leaving the victim unconscious, although he later recovered.

Another video then shows all four migrants and the victim congregating inside the cab before one of the migrants – wearing a red baseball cap backward – lunges for the victim, grabs him from behind and puts him in a chokehold.

When the camera is cleared – about 20 seconds later – the migrant in the red baseball cap can be seen over the man and appears to be rummaging through his pockets.

Chicago police identified the suspects as Fernando Loyo-Rodriguez, Wilker Gutierrez Sierra, Carlos Carreno-Carreno and Yonnier Guasamucare Garcia. Their ages range from 18 to 22 and police say they put a knife to the victim’s throat and stole $400 and a cellphone from him.

They were arrested about 45 minutes later. Each gave a state-funded migrant shelter as an address.
