About 12 years ago, there was a modest earthquake in my state/location (never happens here).
The Fed Govt ultimately admitted they … caused that earthquake. They said they did it to protect against a worse earthquake occurring.
At the time, I remember being quite surprised to learn that our govt is… capable of causing earthquakes. They likely can cause a lot of other “natural” disasters too.

Watching an eclipse is Bad Medicine. Best to be indoors or in the shade, sit quietly and self reflect. Pray at its end for harmony.
If you sit in the shade with the sunlight peeking through the leaves of the trees, you will see crescent “moons” all over the ground, projections of the eclipse. The greens of the grass and trees seem to glow. God Almighty is putting on quite a show. This one is definitely not manmade! I am in the path of totality and unless it is cloudy, I won’t miss God’s amazing handiwork!
I remember the last one here in NE Ohio. No one had cell phones so we were going to use our 35mm camera. Well, of course, no film. One of the kids rode their bike down to the Medic Drug Store for film and thankfully got back before the show had ended. We took pictures of the leaves on the ground, just like you said. I could never understand what made them look like that–as if the light was bent or something. Just beautiful.
We are in the path this time but it’s too early for the leaves. Wonder what it will look like …

Cicadas are harmless. They don’t bite and they don’t eat anything. The bigger nuisance will be the cicada wasps. The males are aggressive but don’t have a stinger. The females have a stinger but are docile.

The last time we had them in nj I remember about 10-15 days? Apparently it depends on the temperatures.

Retired Magistrate here: Cicadas are not harmless to trees. We had a huge infestation in 2021 and had thousands. They did a lot of damage to our large trees. We had the trees fertilized to help them recover. Cicadas can kill small trees due to them cutting the bark to lay eggs. The cut bark then dies and takes the branch with it.
Every dead branch I pick up after a storm has cicada damage on it.
Mormon Crickets are far worse. They eat everything green in sight. I have even seen them eat other insects and each other. When they are run over by cars other crickets eat the remains.
We have a local infestation where I live. been going on for 2 summers now. Infestations usually last seven years. Friends who live aways out of town told us that the new generation is just starting to hatch out around their house now. They are crawling everywhere.

I don’t think President Trump was the target of this earthquake. It seems likely he built his resort to be conveniently located for “The Elites” who live near by. These would be the corporate “movers and shakers” who live in that area who work on Wall St, etc, as this is in commuting distance from NYC. I felt the tremors here today and *heard* the earth groaning the night before the earthquake.

Those of us who have lived their lives in New Jersey are well aware of the Ramapo fault line that runs through the township of Peapack-Gladstone, which is adjacent to Bedminster in the Somerset Hills. So if there’s ever gonna be an earthquake in NJ, and there ain’t many, it’s gonna be centered in that area of the state.
This is the third earthquake I have ever experienced in New Jersey in the last 40 years, and it was by far the most powerful, by our standards.

Many earlier reports suggested only NY was affected, then later in those reports they mentioned New Jersey, but not where in New Jersey.

If you go to the earthquake map at usgs.gov you will see there were actually about 30 separate earthquakes in a cluster. Most of them are microquakes, less than 3 or so on the Richter scale. If you hit the “gear” symbol at the top right, you can adjust the settings.

I had heard this and thought it was a joke.
I’m in a Boston suburb and felt it all the way up here. My house shook like crazy for about 15 seconds. I’ve been through many earthquakes in the past living in both California and Taiwan. I never expected one to hit this area. Funny that the epicenter was in President Trump’s backyard. What other earthquakes will 2024 bring? !! It was my first earthquake! According to the USGS, the epicenter was in Lebanon, Hunterdon County, which is 12 miles from my house. Other reports state that it was centered in adjacent Whitehouse Station, which is a section of Readington Township that borders Lebanon.
There is no randomness with God and names matter. Hmm, Lebanon…what’s going on there? And what is stationed at the White House? You can’t make this stuff up…
Already we in NJ are joking that our government will use this as an excuse to implement a tremor tax.
