Since the YT overlords require recording one’s identity (signing in) to view the content, I’ll posit that, whether one ever uses it or not, firearms and hand to hand combat training are good skillsets to have. Fortunately, there are a subset of private and ex-military individuals out there who are quite good at training.
Sad that it’s come to this but it is what it is. We went through it in the 60’s and 70’s, more physical than firearm, and hand to hand or weapon training was helpful. Quite an eye opener for someone steeped in the Church and turning the other cheek and loving one’s fellow humans. Yup. Reality.
Agree, and the thing about any equaliser is, you have to have it with you, when you need it, and it CAN be used against you.
Self defence training, on the other hand is ALWAYS with you, and can’t be used against you.
Psrticularly fond of the “throat chop” as it can both be lethal, or non-lethal but instantly debilitating, and you have great control over which.
And, you don’t need superior strength or mass to use it.
EVERYONE should learn several such moves…
There is also the hard drive upward heel of your hand on someone’s nose… a marine taught me that one.
I train Krav and Muay Thai several times per week. If I don’t have an arm extension with me I know I have the skill set to take out about 99% of the unskilled fighting public hand to hand.
Women in my class that are tiny could actually take out quite large men as long as the men don’t get them to the ground first.
I highly recommend everyone take classes if you have the time and income. It’s a sound investment in today’s society.

Hershey bars and silver are both valuable for SHTF, the former as a good quick energy source, often included in mil rations in the old days and the latter, more minted coins and not bars, as alternative currency.
I can’t help with the cognitive state of fellow humans. They run the gamut. They seemed to know how to reach for the Hershey bar so elementary cognitive function is there 🙂
Chocolate also lasts faaaar beyond the Date on the package, and stays in excellent shape.

If one can resist or is indifferent to chocolate, stocking types of it make excellent currency for barter too. Keeps well, people who can eat it usually love it and that’s a lot of us. Trade it for other things.
One thing I’ve done is, when the price mistakes/good deals showed up on Ramen noodles on Amazon, I bought cases of them and whenever eating any, saved the seasoning packet. I have gallon ziplocks of different ‘flavors’ stored in the outbuildings.
Spices and seasonings are also important for SHTF IMO. I learned this by testing SHTF menus over days and weeks to see how things would go in reality. If one doesn’t use them personally, they can be traded, either alone or with the noodles.

In Michigan and New York the Governors are encouraging homeowners to make room in their homes for the illegals. Here in NM, my neighbor had a man from out of state (DC) come and paint his home while renovating. To be nice he let the man stay there while doing the work.
When done, the guy wouldn’t leave and after court cases and owner being put in jail 3 days due to stepping on the property as a trespasser, it cost over $40,000 in legal fees.
They had to fly the guy and his attorney back to NM from DC twice. Police didn’t do anything to help the homeowner when they were called. Thankfully, the guy didn’t destroy the home, but he was a neighborhood menace as well as he would yell at neighbors and be obnoxious.
Why would somebody in NM have some guy from DC paint his house? 🙄
Cognitive function varies widely among humans. Also, there was a time, decades ago, when such things weren’t unheard of.
Of course that was before the enforcers started siding with the Communists. NM is well known for that. Back in the day the Sheriff would show up, haul off the squatter and run them out of town.
