Earlier today, President Donald Trump joined grieving family and hundreds of uniformed officers at the wake for slain NYPD cop Jonathan Diller. President Trump continues to emphasize escalating crime as he campaigns for the White House.
President Trump’s presence at the Massapequa funeral home appears intended to shine a spotlight on Diller’s senseless death during a traffic stop in Queens.
Visitation with Diller’s family will be held at the Massapequa Funeral Home at 4980 Merrick Road between 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, also in Massapequa, followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale immediately after the service.

My grandpa was NYPD…he was a beat cop in the Bronx…most hazardous duty was taking truants back to school. He would give the kids the choice of going home (and facing parental wrath or going back to school, they always chose school).
He died from pneumonia because they could not get him penicillin, around the end of WW2..
My sister’s first boyfriend was a police officer in Wash DC. On Christmas Eve he went to the nearby 7-11 to buy tape to wrap presents. He interrupted a robbery, he was shot and killed.
I will never forget my sister coming home from the funeral. I was 10 years younger so only 10 at the time but it is etched in my memory.

There are A LOT of REALLY GOOD POLICE OFFICERS out there who are hanging on by a thread in steadfast service and faith that we are going to turn this country around. There are many who run towards the fire and who do not stand down despite the politics trying to muck everything up. They answer the calls for help. They serve with dignity. They do the best they can within the confines of their system.
A friend of ours felt our former church (Pence’s church – as if that didn’t turn into an oxymoron) threw our officers under the bus when critical race theory took over our congregation. His police car, parked in front of their home, was tagged with BLM. His wife – one of the worship leaders for the teen kids and a SALT OF THE EARTH FAMILY – sobbed and sobbed with me because she feared for her precious husband’s life.
So many of my friends serve. My daughter still sees the honor in it. Because when all the sh$t hits the fan – we are going to need helpers – lots of them. I’ve convinced my daughter to refrain from enlisting until after the election. She wants to deport illegals. And yes, I know how incredibly dangerous this is. My life has been surrounded with danger and brave people who run towards it – not away from it. It’s a blood and honor thing. We love our country and our lives are meaningless if we aren’t serving it.

I live in a county in SC where the Sheriff, (and sherriff deputy’s), help me with planting food plots every year. The beginning of this month, the Sheriff asked me if I planned on Turkey hunting, (March 22 – April 30). I told him the hogs were bad and I had found 2 nests totally destroyed. This past weekend, the Sheriff and 12 men, (2 deputies and 10 of my neighbors), showed up with catch pens. We trapped and killed 16 hogs over 2 days. My Sheriff has told me that if me, my wife or my youngins, (my dogs, he has a soft spot for Shepherds), is in danger, to do whatever it takes to neutralize the threat. He said, When him or one of his deputies arrive, there should only be one account of what happened. As you probably guessed, that account would come from the only people that can still talk.
I love my Sheriff and deputies!!!

Spent a LOT of time on the waters & islands in those areas. Fishing, using rod & reel & cast nets, etc.
On occasion, been up towards the Santee-Cooper area towards Charleston where the wild hogs can be a bit “troublesome” & many times running dogs are what keeps most folks from getting hurt in those swampy areas between the bridges when they are hunting the hogs, “if ya know what I mean”. 😉
Camping & fishing( Crappies/Brim) up in the park is right nice too, back then when we went there.
Anyway, I miss the SC “Low Country”, and to be honest, just to mention, so ya might know that I was there before… I don’t speak or understand , Gullah”, although it could come in handy once in a while. Most are good folks, if ya can understand the dialect.

Lol, I know what you mean by “Gullah” from spending a lot of time in the lowcountry. The best thing we have going for us is living in a small town. We catch a heck of a lot of crappie, bream and white bass on the creeks, mostly behind the numerous old grist mill dams. I live in a place near the Savannah river, where teenagers ride their atv’s to the bridge and jump off and swim. Sometimes, deputies will come by and make them clear the roadway and, sit a while watching them jump.

Well, Bill, I am not sure which of the comments you are referring to other than perhaps the USMC Motto of “Semper Fidelis”, I have used previously in some of my comments here at the DTH. ( The USMC motto, which for those who may not know, is Latin for “Always Faithful”.)
Being that I was at one time about 40-45 or so years ago, an active duty US Marine, I am kind of partial to the saying; and while I have not been on active duty for a while now, I still maintain the same mindset to this day, but perhaps you would not understand that, combat tours or not.
I am not going to ask for, nor do I expect any response regarding that matter. It is yours to deal with on your own.
Everyone has to deal with their own ways of thinking & their own personal experiences.
Regardless, to try to answer your question… I tend to lean towards it being always faithful to my oath to support & defend the US Constitution, defend my country against All enemies Foreign & Domestic, to defend my Christian faith, & be true to my fellow brothers & sisters in arms who are trying to do the same.

am a retired police officer from a large Canadian city, and was threatened with arrest at a local border crossing during the Trucker rally’s here at the Canadian/ U.S. border.
Fortunately my understanding of the law was greater than the young officer.
Policing ( like the military, the education system, medicine etc.) has changed dramatically over the last several decades.
Folks like me would not be hired today, nor would I want to be.

Thank you for your service! I think we need to avoid extremes. Some cops, arguably younger ones, may go along with totalitarian measures. Others, often older ones like yourself, will have limits and turn in their badge if it comes to it. But the way things are headed, I wouldn’t advise my sons to become police officers nor enter the military, unless/until I’m certain we are headed back in the right direction away from tyranny, from a totalitarian police state.

Sorry, but you stopped making sense to me. Not sure if your opinion is popular here or not. In my neck of this country the cops are not my enemy. And I live in the US which is a Republic. I don’t know what country you live in that is run by Communists. I am sorry you feel so put upon by them.
I’ve lived in many coun tries since when I was 20. Cops everywhere are the same regardless of culture or race when they work as cops. As far as bad cops, they are of the same breed everywhere. As for cultural traits in cops, it may take longer to know a British cop than say a Japanese one. Or vice versa. That depends on the individual. If one feels one must already be on the defense with Chinese cops because they are all communists; then there already exists some obstruction based on political factor not the individual one is dealing with. Most cops in their own country exhibit common traits – aloofness, wariness, natural friendliness, discretion, etc at work, but normally not with neighbors or their neighborhood community members, though there are always exceptions.
That said, there are also those stick in the mud types who don’t engage as one human to another, just real robotically-business like, or those who are overtly friendly, helpful yet transparently nefarious. These do not belong to any national or cultural category – just certain types of people.
On the whole, cops aren’t one’s enemies. We could perceive them as enemies when they avert their eyes away from real crimes because of fear or for favors/bribes etc of some Mafia boss in the small pond he/she occupies.
Sometimes, we meet a rare specie of an over-enthusiastic rookie cop. Or a harder to deal with type when he/she is out for promotion.
In all professions, there are similar examples of the types we meet/work or interact with. It takes all kinds.

Suffice to say who you’d be calling for help when you’re swamped or attacked? Your friends? Since cops aren’t your friends.
Good cops, bad cops have their orders – call out bad cops for what they are, and call out those whose orders good working cops are supposed to follow. Did this young officer do his job? Was he one who is designated as ‘when they come for you or me”? The NYPD’s Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) sent a damning letter calling out far-left Democratic leaders in the city for their anti-police and soft-on-crime policies and telling them to stay away from the funeral of slain Officer Jonathan Diller. Why is that?

Neither of us are dumping on all cops. We just understand that while we respect the duty they provide, MANY of them did the wrong thing and turned on the citizens they are supposed to serve and protect. What should have happened is, they should have laid down their badges and guns in unison and refused to assault the citizens.
They have unions for a reason. Those types of reasons particularly. Strength in numbers. Spare me the “I have a family to provide for story.” When covid arose and the vax mandates were put on ALL businesses over XX # of employees or whatever it was, I stood in the gap for my fellow employees.
I was newly hired CFO of a $50m construction firm. I had just fixed a 25 year disaster in their finance department. The company was operating the best it had in its 40 years of existence. And their profits were the highest ever. When the dictate came down, I sent a company-wide email addressed to the board and CEO. In which I stated should they choose to enforce this mandate that I would be leaving the company without notice. I would not train anyone who would replace me, and I would not provide them with the 50+ SOP manuals I had created that would allow the company to continue on a perfect path should I leave or be hit by a bus.
The board called a private meeting with me, thanked me for standing for my fellow employees as most of their superior, and said they would not be implementing the mandate. And if the government attempted to enforce it they would find a way around. To which I told them I already had a plan to help get around it. And I gave them the plan information. We all agreed that’s how we would proceed should the govt attempt to come after us. Luckily we never had to execute the plan.
THAT is the type of leadership I would expect from the police and other LEO. Not “I’ve got a family to feed also”.
And I had a newborn baby girl and young wife to care for. Not too mention we had just moved into a new house seven months prior. I had no job lined up. But the thought of that poison being put in my body without my say so was much more of a horror in my mind then trying to find a new job. Even if I had to bag groceries or do Uber or whatever. I was willing to do it.

As I recall from my research, his personal secretary daily perused several daily newspapers to locate people in need and he would do what was necessary to help.
I recall, he paid the balance of a mortgage for a Georgia farmer’s widow, when the bank was going to foreclose, upon her husband’s death. He called the bank to make the financial arrangements, however, the bank then contacted the press. Upon that action, Donald Trump traveled to Georgia and gave a news conference and handed the deed and release of lien to the widow.
So, he didn’t initiate the public disclosure, the bank representative did, and being the strategist and showman that he naturally is, he made the widow center of attention.
My point is, Donald Trump has always made things happen, whatever was necessary to achieve a planned end, and he is very sincere in his generosity.

This is probably an unpopular opinion. It would be one thing if Trump visited the family in private with no fanfare. If he entered the funeral home from a back service entrance and quietly left after paying respects to the family.
It is a completely different thing to grandstand in front of a funeral home thanking people for being there as if he was the reason they were there and not once mentioning Jonathan’s name. It came off to me as being exploitative and cynical.
No doubt Trump thought that this would be good for votes much like selling Bibles with his name on them for $60 a pop. Selling Bibles might play well with a large swath of his low IQ uneducated supporters but I would bet it would rub many more the other way especially actual real Christians for whom the Bible is the most sacred of books. Not something to be hawked as a way of raising campaign funds.

I’ve searched for something that supports your claim and haven’t been able to find anything.

The big story yesterday was not the Obama, Bubba and Sleepy Joe raise $25 million from their wealthy donors…it was that Joe was in NYC and didn’t even bother to make a condolence phone call to the family of the fallen NYPD officer Diller who was murdered by a repeat criminal who Biden’s open border allowed into the country. The difference between the Democratic threesome who only care about money and power and Trump, who seems human.
They believe they are “rock stars”. Why would anyone be surprised that such narcissists would take the focus off themselves and their filthy $$.
This is what happens when an entire political party spends years telling people cops are evil-racists that want to kill them.
