I grew up in a small redneck town in north Florida that was 50% white and 50% black and yes, the communities were segregated but side by side and no more than 2 miles from one end to the other. We had trucks in the school parking lot with shotguns in the windows. We never locked our cars. It took me years to get in the habit of locking my car when I moved north. Of course, we have some crime. But nothing NOTHING like is seen today. Was it culture? Not every kid had good parents. Some were white trash – using that term descriptively. Some of my black classmates were fatherless. We had some vandalism at the high school. I remember a couple of shootouts (not at school) only because my mom was the first certified police woman in Florida (70s). We had even suffered through forced integration of the schools (I promise, the schools were equally not so great and neither side wanted to integrate) and there was a little violence during those couple years. Almost everyone I knew went to church, even had one Catholic friend. Big rivalry between the Baptist and Methodist churches. Big rivalry between us and the town across the county in football. Whether we liked the current high school football coach was a big important topic (I thought that was stupid but…). Life was normal, steady, good even for someone like me who had a serious issue at home. I have had a very hard time coming to grips with our current reality. Thank God for The Conservative Treehouse to help keep me mostly sane.

There was a 2014 lawsuit in CT…parents suing a farm where their child was trying to pet a horse and was bitten in the cheek. The father lifted up his year and a half old son to pet the horse….oops…your bad Dad!!! The attractive nuisance claim was part of this lawsuit so this argument is nothing new.
