More likely Musk tried to loan money, ie. “buy”, President Trump or a proposition of some sort in exchange for Elon’s endorsement. Upon rejection Elon went public with announcement. Elon Musk is under massive lawfare attack. He’s making the statement for a reason. If you haven’t been paying attention, the most recent attack on him came from someone who owned a share in Tesla and complained in a Delaware court about his compensation. The court ruled that he couldn’t get paid what he negotiated.
In response, he is changing the incorporation of SpaceX to another state and will probably also move Tesla as well eventually. (probably can’t because the of lawfare against him ongoing)
Yes, in Musk’s case, he felt it necessary to make a public statement to be on the record that he favors no candidate as that is a likely reason “random people” might try to attack or kill him. This is essentially the same as a statement of “I am not suicidal.”
Even funnier is that the attorney’s for the shareholders they fought for (Musk was paid too much stock compensation and “hurt” Tesla) are asking the court to approve their fees to be paid in Tesla stock – about $6 billion in stock with no strings on when they can sell (so they’ll immediately dump it causing Tesla shares to drop harming the very people they fought to protect) 🤷♂️

Musk isn’t a Palm Beach habituate. I can’t find any mention of his plane at the WPB airport in the past 5 years. Yet there it is on the same day that Trump just happens to be meeting with his major financial backers. Coincidence? Hardly.
But it’s more likely, imnsho, that he was there to discuss some way to put a half billion cash at Trumps disposal to pay the appeal bonds. How many non-uniparty owned players could pony up that kind of money on short notice? Not coincidental.

I get a bit tired of people commenting about how bad Elon Musk is. It is clear that he doesn’t care much about money – other than it allows him to pursue his interests. Has anyone alive accomplished more than he has where no one thought he had a chance to succeed? Has anyone alive contributed to free speech more than he has?
I understand what drives Elon Musk – his mind doesn’t shut down. I’ve always, for many decades, described it as when the mind of a person like that goes, he is just along for the ride. It is amazing what he has accomplished in space when everyone said it would be impossible. It is amazing what he has accomplished with automobiles – again, when the consensus was that it was impossible. It is amazing the progress he has made providing a platform for different views to express themselves.
Isn’t it clear by now that he will try to make sure that the powerful establishment cannot shut his endeavors down? He made one seemingly minor mistake, and he was forced to grovel to the powerful people. Isn’t it clear that he feels that he needs to make sure he is not hurt so badly that he loses what he loves to do? Didn’t Donald Trump do the same thing? Didn’t RFK, jr. do the same thing? There are some battles that, if you are not stupid, you do not want to fight.

Someone above raised Musk’s affliction with Aspergers Syndrome and pointed out how it affects his intellect and performance skills vs his social skills. That may be worth considering as well. This may be in response to Bloomberg and NY Times reports, citing sources. They report that Musk is on the list of potential sponsors of President Trump’s campaign and has met with President Trump.
Understandable in that Musk wants people to stop bothering him about campaign contributions and stop trying to apply pressure with respect to his businesses for same, i.e. his $$ is on the sidelines, stop the shakedowns.

I ponder the wording here. Mr Musk says he’s not going to donate to either candidate. He doesn’t say anything about a possible loan to Pres Trump that could be used for his NY case until the case is thrown out.
This was a political calculation (or an apolitical calculation). The left has lobbied stink bombs at him or some time now. His effort at launching Starship has been thwarted by the Biden Administration. He cannot test the Starship because of the law fare against him by all the “concerned citizens). Biden has launched lawsuits against him for Tesla labor issues. The same with Space X. Because Musk does not hold fast to the Biden line of discourse, the Biden administration is letting loose with all barrels. My opinion is that he does not like what Biden is doing. But he cannot donate to Trump and (perhaps) survive. So I think this was a pragmatic move. It won’t stop Biden from going after him, but he also will not unleash more hornets than he already has. By the way, when PDJT was in office, there were NONE of the barriers Biden’s group of incompetents have put in front of him. Just sayin.

Maybe we should be looking at some of the similarities between Musk and Trump.
They are both what I refer to as “pushers.” The “tool pusher” on a big rig was responsible to make things go. When he came on the job, at least when I worked up in the arctic fifty years ago, the job was going to go – whatever it took. That’s what I told my wife when Donald Trump came down the escalator. I worked with guys like that. It was great experience. Musk has to be like that.
I know that EVs are not practical – at least presently. But, when it was signaled that this was the way to go, Musk made it work better than any of the big players in the game. When the health “experts” made it clear that we needed a vaccine – right or wrong – Trump made it happen in record time. I likened it, at the time, to Trump riding in front of a stampeding herd of cattle. If he had stopped and held up his hand, he would have gotten run over. He was trying to slow the hysteria down, but he could see that was hopeless – and he did what was thought impossible.
How many times did the “experts” call for the death of Trump’s political career? How many times did the “experts” agree that Musk had bitten off more than he could chew?
These are two guys that make things go. They ignore the “experts” and make things happen.

I can understand why Elon would want to go public with such a statement because the Biden admin is giving him enough grief as it is – he doesn’t want them to think he is bankrolling the Trump campaign.
