For years, I travelled the New York Subway system (Bronx to Manhattan). I can tell you it ain’t nothin like this! 🙂
Even Paris doesn’t look that good. Or London.

Was there 8 years ago…the architecture, tile flooring, art and sculpture work was unbelievable. No graffiti, trash etc.

He was the age of the kids I teach –11/12 year olds. He put my sister and I through college. He never asked anyone for a dime. Yet, he gave to the community, went to church, and was a damn good husband, father, and responsible citizen.
Too many people in this country do not appreciate what they have.

COVID was a convenient excuse to stop riding BART … but virtually NOBODY has gone back to riding BART. The BART parking lots that used to be overflowing by 7am pre-COVID are essentially empty. I’d say BART is down 75% in ridership. Gavin Newsom has already had to throw $ hundreds of millions at BART … just to keep it operating.
When the Bay Bridge was down after the quake in 87(?), I had to ride BART from Walnut Creek to work in SF until they fixed the bridge.
From the SF BART station, I had a 2-1/2 mile walk to my job that took me through a public housing project in one of the worst neighborhoods you could imagine.
I was well armed with my head on a swivel going and coming knowing that if anything happened, that being a white guy carrying concealed in SF would mean me going to jail to be with the same people that I was carrying to defend myself against.
I got out of CA at my first opportunity.
Err… don’t have to imagine it… I live here… is kind of like a Ghosttown in parts of the City. Bart’s rider ship went way down due to the pandemic and the Exodus.
DC has crazy, drugged up, and drunk people laying down around the stations too. Not this bad, but it’s everywhere in all our cities now.
It’s also happening in suburbs.
That’s sad … because when I was last in DC (admittedly about 25 years ago) … I noticed the DC metro was virtually identical to BART … the cars looked the same … everything … identical. EXCEPT … the stations were clean, the patrons polite, the cars were clean with no torn upholstery and did not reek of vomit and urine. And the trains were punctual to within 30sec. of the published schedules.

Having visited there in late October 1996, I can vouch for the cleanliness (they were immaculate) and orderliness of the subway system. The riders, too, were orderly, polite, and well-dressed.
I assume that is what it felt like to be in an airport and in an airplane back in the late 1950s, early 1960s; everybody dressed respectfully and were well-mannered.

I looked for info about “discharge petition”. I don’t know if this particular info applies to a bill that originated in the House, was amended by the Senate, and is now coming back to the House, but if it does they need 218 signatures which is a simple majority. Right now the GOP has 219 seats, the Dems have 212, and 4 are vacant. So in order for the Dems to get 218 signatures they just need to offer some freebies to 6 RINO traitors. Normally that wouldn’t be difficult, but remember this is an election year and ALL Representatives’ seats are up for grabs, and the RINOs can potentially be primaried. So it’s very very important that we all contact our Representatives and tell them to not participate in the discharge petition, and if the bill does come up for a vote to vote ‘no’ on it. Wasn’t her university, which is Kentucky. It was the moonbats at UPenn, who keep proving their idiocy over and over.
I think it’s fair to say that EVERYONE has shirked their responsibility over this. Parents, kids, uncles, aunts, innocent bystanders – every sane person in this nation should have been screaming bloody murder about this when it first came up. People other than the competitors should have boycotted the meets. Family refused to attend. People refused to work the meets. The swimmers could have still competed, to empty venues. And for the high profile events that were televised, people should have simply not watched. There was so much opportunity to set this straight.
I really feel that the *only* way to stop this for good is for Women and Girls to stand up for themselves.
Everything else will be/is just a stop gap measure, and it’ll come back sooner or later.

Here’s what I’ve found out about the Michigan primary/caucus debacle. And if you want to blame anyone, blame Governor Whitmer and other Democrats for moving the GOP and Dem primaries to February. They knew very well this would cause a problem for the Michigan Republicans because the RNC has a rule that only certain states can hold their primaries prior to March 1, and Michigan would have been heavily penalized delegate-wise if they had not come up with an alternate solution. You know the Democrats are really good at changing rules to screw Republicans. Please please please stop allowing Democrats to have power. But I digress ….
The most important thing for Michigan voters to know is: VOTE IN THE PRIMARY. You can vote early, vote absentee, or vote at your polling place on Tue Feb 27.
16 delegates will be assigned to the candidates in a semi-proportional manner (details at the link I’m providing below). I think those delegates will be formally awarded on Fri Mar 1. And then all 55 delegates will meet at a state convention in Detroit on Sat Mar 2 to award the remaining 39 delegates in some manner that is apparently yet to be decided.
The only ways I can think that would improve this process are:
1) The RNC should allow an exception to states that are being held hostage by Democrats. Don’t punish Republican in states where the Democrats have control and move the primaries to dates that are unacceptable to the RNC.
2) The Michigan GOP should use the same formula for the remaining 39 delegates that they will use for the first 16 from the primary. They should be transparent and publish the rules in advance, and make the delegates binding. It’s like they’ve left the door open a bit to award more delegates to a candidate who is not the vote-winner, and that will be grossly unfair. I hope Trump mops the floor with Haley so there’s no way she can get more than a couple of delegates.
