I thought seriously about just trashing the recipe post when the first comment, and three of the first eight, were gripes and snark. Especially after I made a point of letting people know our party is about family, not football. But, I would really enjoy some fun and food recipes, and there are a few people left here who can enjoy these posts, and others who have the class not to ruin things if they aren’t in the mood.
This isn’t sarcasm here. Yes, I am mad. But apparently there is a need for a place to just blow off steam. I may actually do this second post every time I do any other post at all.
If you don’t like football, Taylor Swift, Kansas City or San Fran, or any other thing that puts a bee in your bonnet, here’s your place.
Blow off steam but keep it clean. This is not a place for you to bestow your nastiest vocabulary on us.
And please, consider letting the rest of us enjoy some normal.

my family and i will be keeping with our tradition and will not be supporting the nfl’s w e.f. bowl
lionizing evvil is evvil and aids and abetts those wishing harm to all that is/are good
rationalize whichever way makes you feel good about what you’re doing
those fighting the good fight will not be participating, but will be proudly an defiantly standing tall on the sidelines (yes, pun) shaking our already over shaken heads in disbelief and disgust
is lionizing ppizer and murderna next on your agenda?
and the hill gets steeper…
I KNEW the negativity would happen as soon as “Super Bowl” was mentioned, so I hadn’t clicked on the link yet.
But I did have negative thoughts about the Super Bowl.
There is a reason that the dumb jock stereotype exists. Part of it is due to repeated head trauma is the worst damage of which doesn’t really show up until a few decades down the line. Not to mention the damage to the rest of the body.
52+ Former NFL Players With CTE – Ranker.com – 2019….
One of the biggest clouds hanging over the NFL in recent years has been the growing specter of head injuries, concussions, and CTE. As more and more former players reveal they are living with dementia and other degenerative brain diseases, the game of football has had to face some tough questions about player safety and what is being done to prevent this terrible illness.
Right now, it is impossible to know how many NFL players have CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) because the diagnosis can only be confirmed after death. (Hey Taylor Swift…RUN!) But increasingly, players are leaving their brains to science to study the disease, making the connection between CTE and football clearer by the day.
The 52 NFL players on this list were all confirmed to have been suffering from CTE. Some of them died of natural causes but debilitated by disease, while others like Junior Seau and Adrian Robinson have been added to the growing list of NFL players with CTE who killed themselves.
As the years go on and this list grows, the NFL will be forced to reckon with the years of trauma players have suffered while playing a game, many since before even high school. There has been a CTE settlement with some families, but there will likely be many more before the issue is put to bed.

First of all Football is fixed outcome in many cases..
#i its classified as entrainment just like wrestling…
#2 anytime humans are involved there is reason for a fixed outcome reason GAMBLING..
#3 They hide injuries…
#4 they play ever down to hurt someone its vicious and brutal..
#5 You could call penalty on every play Referees are in on the fix.. Many games lost in last 2 mints on questionable calls by Refs.
#6 People stay pissed off for days when their team loses…You have more then enough to worry about.. Then football.
I don’t know, but I doubt Las Vegas has bookies taking bets on Pro Wrestling.
I do believe pro football and baseball is increasingly fixed, by agreement the owners, refs, and the so-called elites who control what the people see. Not every game, but certainly ones they deem important to strategy and narrative. Last year it was evident — the Super Bowl was supposed to be two black quarterbacks, and the refs made it happen by screwing with the clock in obvious, blatant, repeated, and unprecedented ways to get Mahomes over the finish line.
I will still watch NFL, and my Red Sox, though, for as long as my father is still alive to watch with. I hope to watch many more seasons.
I have boys who wanted to play football, and for a few years they did.
Now they have friends who have joined the NFL, and minor leagues.
So I still worry about football.
I have been told by my ‘brain’ docs that my symptoms mirror CTE; and they are a ‘doozy’. Of course there is no definitive test…other than a post-mortem brain tissue autopsy…so I would just as soon not know! The NFL is the target of choice because of the ‘deep-pockets’…and the NCAA, NHL. etc.? I personally believe the newly birthed CTE ‘industry’ is a lucrative cash-cow for the hustlers. I have asked for informational assistance a few different times…the only response I receive is repeated pleas for $$$. I grew up a poor white kid in a very mixed neighborhood, and my tempermental nature rose to the surface often. I played sports…football, wrestling, boxing…in high school and college. Club rugby wars for another 20 years. I was the sole bouncer in a booming country ‘roadhouse’…I have been in hundreds of altercations.
In 2005, as a crowning touch, I was struck as a pedestrian in my lower ‘backside’ by an illegal southerner who lost control of their speeding vehicle at 75mph…my brains had to be pushed back into my skull. CTE or whatever it is, is not a product of sports, it is the natural response of the human brain to repeated injury! It has existed since OGG THE CAVEMAN grabbed his club and went out looking for a date…it is nothing new! Only the 21st Century quest for unlimited funding is new. Like natural climate change…money can’t ever fully ‘fix’ nature!
Firstly, everyone knows head trauma is a part of the game. Better helmets, instructions on tackling with shoulder, rules about helmet to helmet contact alleviate but a small portion of the possibility of head trauma. I got my bell rung a few times in high school but those who play college and pro definitely up the odds of regular head trauma. These are grown men at that point. They know what they sign up for. The fact that better tech now exists than when the leagues started is besides the point. Whether head trauma or simple bodily abuse, players know what they sign up for and do so willing, especially today, with the big contracts. The stories are numerous. One that has always stuck with me, and I am sure there are many others, was Jim Otto of the Oakland Raiders telling of the ordeal it was for him to simply get out of bed after a game, and that was while he was still playing. Call him and others manly, stupid, greedy or whatever, they know what they sign up for. Yes, I can feel sorry for the consequences of “their” choices” but I won’t join the pity party. I have my own aches and pains from my own youthful indiscretions to deal with at 71 years of age, and those were from playing all kinds of sports and activities without going into a gladiator ring with monsters who want to “take you out.”
Thank you for what you do.
I read some of the posts you refer to. Ah … the internet. A lot of it is a form of virtue signaling. “I’m superior because [fill in the blank],” with the blanks in this case filled with
I don’t watch football;
I haven’t watched football in years;
I haven’t watched football longer than you haven’t watched football;
I don’t watch TV;
I don’t HAVE a TV;
I got rid of my TV before you got rid of yours;
I hate [pick from the list]
Menagerie, I am all over the internet every day and, if it is any consolation, virtually every comment thread everywhere is littered with these types of posts, some degenerating into long arguments between haters over the finer points of their negativity. I suppose it is difficult to ignore when it is your thread that gets hijacked. Hang in there, kid.
Brilliant move, adding this for the gripers. And I won’t waste my time reading a single comment because I just don’t care. Going back now to the recipe post.
how ironic that the lack of caring is the mother of all gripes
enable on, commrade!
My post was poorly phrased. Allow me to amend it here: I just don’t care about what you are griping about.
i was foremost lamenting the theft of our liberty, freedom and justice by enablers of the perps
you know, the insignificant stuff not worthy a care
It’s interesting how those who complain about whiners are also whining, but about far lesser issues.
Our son wanted to wrestle with his cousins in elementary school, we ski in the winter. Sure , you can wrestle, we will drop you off Friday nights and pick you up Sunday…. He chose skiing. Nobody in our family watches media sports. A win.
Ask former Mayor of SFO why he didn’t sue patent holder of ozone-eating CFCs instead of Big Oil. DuPont hq’d in Delaware and big pals with Brandon is a clue. Skin cancer is no 1 cancer in America
Menagerie posts are the best posts on this site, hands down, always. If one never stops and looks at what they are becoming, then one can never become more than what they were never to become.
Thank you, Menagerie
Really love the spiritual posts, Menagerie. Very uplifting. Fills the soul with beauty and faith.
(Menagerie. “B&G”…Now, that is funny…)
You said it well. Some just can’t pass on by when something isn’t their cup of tea.
👍👍
I recall someone earlier in my life had a saying along those lines. It involved dogs, and what dogs tend to do to things that smell different to them…….
I NEVER watch the NFL. I will not watch a TV program that insults me. Period
I’m waiting for SpringFootball.
Never liked Taylor Swift at all. See YA handled, IMHO.
Lawrence Taylor played real good linebacker for the NY Giants.
The Giants are not playing.
Maybe Lawrence will be in the stands with other attendees?
I do not know
Fwiw.
Maybe someone wants to see whom ( and how ) is buying, too pricy, tv ads?
or a fb game ( with a lot of stoppages on play clock etc. ).
Maybe we should ask the refs who the winner will be.
Gambling ads.
Ok, you asked for it! 😉
Normally, I don’t read these posts (and didn’t today) because I like recipes. Just recipes, period.
I’m a great cook, and often look online for simple recipes or ideas. There are thousands, probably millions. But there are all these recipes and blogs out there, where self-absorbed women have to blow on for paragraphs about their past and their feelings about the color of their grandmother’s apron, and how it affects their casserole.
I don’t care. I just want a recipe. I have my own memories and life to deal with. Reading through someone else’s life story just to get to a basic recipe gives me the “icks”. Tell it to a therapist or a real friend, just gimme the recipe.
Now that that’s off my chest…
As far as Superbowl, I’ve never cared. Good food is good food, no matter what the occasion.
And good company who appreciates that food…and the one who prepared it.
Oh THAT’s a sore subject with my Mrs. She has to bite her tongue when rude, discourteous guests have to announce why they don’t like or eat what’s been prepared and served on the table. “OH I’m allergic to____” or “I can’t eat____ because I had it once as a child and hated it.” (of course now they’re 40-, 50-, or 60-something and haven’t ever tried it as an adult).
I could blather on but i’m sure EVERYONE who has labored over a big meal only to have at least one family member refuse to eat an item while commenting how bad it tastes to them, yet never even sampling the dish.
My Ma would say if you don’t like what we have for dinner. You don’t have to eat.
Yeah! 🤣🤣 So did my mom!
I used to tell my sons “I’m not running a restaurant.” They ate what was on the table. My oldest son was in his thirties when I found out he hates onions. I asked him how I didn’t know this. His reply was “You weren’t running a restaurant.”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You gotta give him that one. He must have his mother’s wit.
LOLOL!!!!
Or the ladies who ask you what all you put in it before they’ll try it, and then say…
“Oh, that’s n0t how I make mine.”
Well then don’t eat it, you stupid cow – you can starve to death for all I care! 😀
🤣🤣🤣
Oh I so know where you’re coming from there. I hear it with EVERY family gathering. One won’t eat deviled eggs or anything with a cranberry. One won’t eat vegetables except broccoli. One won’t eat pie crust or the vanilla wafers in banana pudding. My own husband won’t eat good Southern food all the while saying he isn’t a picky eater. I’ve arrived at the WHATEVER point. This is what I’ve cooked, eat it or not.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Y’all got me laughing pretty hard reading these. Seems my wife and I have LOTS of company in this pet peeve!
It’s so rude. If I am presented with something I don’t/can’t eat unless taking a small bite would, yes LITERALLY kill me, I take small portion and thank the cook. Since most things I do not/will not eat are by choice, I see no reason to be impolite and ungrateful.
Yes!! Same with me and my better half. I wish more people would understand that simple courtesy! It’s usually the younger adults who seem oblivious but not always!
Sore subject with me as well, GB.
File it under “Mannerless”….or ” Disregard for Others”.
Both of which seem to be only two symptoms of the collapse of civil behaviour in what is left of this nation.
The first thing we taught our now university bound twin grandlads was the phrase “Manners Maketh Man,” and we didn’t let up.
They loved saying it. Today they are exceptionally well mannered and aware of others and their feelings.
Perhaps Mrs GB can make use of this pithy truism the next time she hears a noxious, ungracious comment.
Feel free to pass it on, dear sir 😎
Oh I understand Betsy. My Mrs. doesn’t like to start any controversy at the dinner table and doesn’t like me starting any either so we usually bite our tongues and carry on… Our own (now grown 45+ yr old adults) children were taught well and both use good manners when guests at others homes. So we did take care of that as you did. And our grandchildren, well, 2 out of 3) also know how to exhibit good manners as guests at other’s dinner tables.
None of that surprises me one time tiny bit, GB 😊👍🏻💕
😎
🤣🤣🤣 👍
Well said, PJ! My wife also peruses recipe sites and I’be heard her gripe….she agrees with you!
Most people I know do, too! Look, I love cooking and eating – and have very little time beyond that, with work.
It’s weird how, no matter what search you do, it brings up these pages-long storied “recipes” from lonely, bored, self-absorbed women who can’t just share a recipe or tip. Annoying!
🎯 👍👍 😆
So glad you said this!!!
It’s what I do, LoL!
I have been reading CTH since 2012. And I can’t stand football. Why watch something that is insulting???
Hope this is clean enough if I just say F*** the illegals.
Every single one…..
I don’t care if they’ve been here a day, month or years.
Don’t care if they have homes, businesses or whatever.
I flat want every single one of these people GONE.
As in out of our lives to never be seen or heard from again.
They broke the law and should never have been allowed here in the first place.
Refugees who lied, those who found someone to marry just to circumvent the law. All gone…ALL of them.
I want our country back.
English language only. Law abiding people only.
Let’s clean our country up and clean it out.
Thank you….I feel better now.
well done. no complaints!
I understand where people are coming from. I went from being a NFL Sunday Ticket “super fan” to a “I don’t think I watched 5 games all season but I was bored” viewer. The kneeling killed it for me. Then they tried the flag waving b.s. which people are just suckers for, which just made me madder.
BUT, we have to be able to enjoy things. We can’t spend all our time in politics. Have fun with your friends, enjoy the game for what it is. Step out of the room if the preaching gets annoying on TV as it often does.
Expect a lot of drinking games focused on you-know-who. Do not engage her fans in conversation. They are nuts. But have fun with it.
Watching grown men beat each other to a pulp for public spectacle is as old as humanity itself. Enjoy it for what it is, and just relax. You’ll need your energy later this year. Store up some good will.
More or less me too. Haven’t watched in five years or so, but the Packers made the playoffs and when my phone lit up with OMG! they’re killing the Cowboys I couldn’t resist…oh well. (Been a Packer fan since Lombardi)
To be honest, the matchup for this “Superbowl” is boring to me. And halftime? Ya, that would put me in a bad mood if I watched it. Pop culture smells like something that should’ve been buried a long time ago…
I love Menagerie’s posts. And I made no comments on the thread. But I definitely have gripes about football. The NFL sucks and the only times I watch is when I am invited to a party. When I go to the party I ignore the game and talk to friends.
I hope I can brighten up your day. I made the “Recipe For Perfect Pancakes” the other day and they were awesome. I took the liberty of adding a little vanilla extract and it kicked up the flavor. Thank you, so much.
Our family will enjoy them on Superbowl Sunday too, with a little blueberries and walnuts. Yum!!
On the vanilla extract.
My sister gave me a bottle,..the olde fashioned kind with the stopper that has a wire frame, so you kind of latch/unlatch it, you know?
Inside were a couple of real vanilla beans, and then she filled it with vodka or everclear.
So REAL Vanilla extract. If you’ve never tastedthe real thing, you have no idea.
She says if I keep replacing the liquid as I use it with more (vodka) it will last …forever!
dutch,
thanks for sharing I’ll have to try it. I do like vodka.
Chuckie Schumer and the Turtle can take turns kissing my retired Army arse.
I think that sometimes people read a particular line in an article or a particular response and that just fires off something in their head. Post First!, read later 🙁 … much like when a thread gets hijacked by OT posts.
Gripes – sorry, can’t help with that. I have one life to enjoy regardless of the difficulty thrust upon it by others.
Going over to read the recipes now 🙂
Where TF is Herb?
Even though we’d stopped watching the regular games a long, long time ago, I always took time to watch the Super Bowl with my Dad right up to when he passed, so I get it.
But the NFL is only a political football for me these days.
Even though I didn’t post in your thread, I might have…..so, sorry. ; )
Menagerie!!! I love you so much for doing this! I’m exhausted from being angry all of the time! I turned off the talk radio about 4 hours ago & commenced to cooking! Then, I turned on the Beach Music radio station that’s broadcast from Ocean Drive, SC (94.9 The Surf). And, I live in NC!!! I just wanted to cook & sing with the songs that I know the words to! And, make all of the bad stuff go away for a while.
I’ve got bluetooth noise cancelling headphones for work, (it’s really loud there). Used to listen to politics all day, Chris Plante and then Bongino. Started hearing, “why are you in such a bad mood”. Found Sarah Jarosz about a year ago and along with the pandora playlist, all kinds of new bluegrass, folk etc. All that for an amazing change in mood! Seeing her March 8th, can’t wait!!!
And she released a new album last week. Voice of an angel and probably never sang a bad note in her life. Mandolin wizard too!
LOL!!! One I’ll post on!! Because?? Someone mentioned those guidelines!!! They equal something called respect!!!
Okay!! The #8 one!! It really bugs me… and I’m taking it out of context just a bit. BUT!!! Your time, my time is “valuable.” Ninety-nine percent of the time I don’t bother reading the comments.
I comprehend the why most are posting what they do, but boy oh boy do I miss the forever ago time when the comments added to the learning of the written post, be it a serious one or a fun one. I give a huge thank you to all the crew for all you do!!!
It’s great when there are comments that actually contribute ideas.
I have a gripe and in summation it is – put your money where your mouth is.
I work at a small Christian school in the far flung reaches of our country. We, as a school, are full of God fearing, freedom-loving teachers and administrators who strive to do what we can to ensure our country’s future is supplied with people who actually know our history and values as well as the 3Rs. We do not accept any government aid or funds in order to ensure our independence. We are continuously understaffed and underfunded. Our teachers work to exhaustion for a pittance because they believe they are answering God’s call (which they indeed are IMHO). Good and humble people exist and THEY are fighting at the front lines for the future, day in and day out. These schools are at the epicenter of the spiritual and social attacks running rampant in our society and need so much support to continue.
Do you want to change the future????? DONATE AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT CHRISTIAN SCHOOL! EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE KIDS ENROLLED THERE!
Are you retired and an “expert” in something (accounting, nursing, business, etc)? Maybe not in need of a lot of income? Offer your services to these schools. Spend less time whining in the comment section and more time supplying the future with well rounded, wise young people educated in Truth.
Gripe complete. Over and out.
Pretty darn good gripe, if you ask me!
Well done and thank you for what you do.
Great comment / suggestion!
Not being able to donate my time to any school, I found the next best way to help.
There is a unique long-established charity in our county seat / town not far from me. They try to stock school supplies for those less fortunate kids whose parent(s) cannot afford to buy such items. The charity also supplies clothing, household items and other services to the needy like many charities, but the focus on school appealed to us.
So I donate $$$$ annually to them and if we get a collection of stationery that could also be used for school, we take that up to them. We found that these go mostly to private school children in the area since the public school parent(s) apparently have other sources of support via government.
Is this only Superbowl griping or general griping? I’m freaking cold in Virginia and Gavin Newsom is destroying California. Other than that, I can’t complain.
The Turtle Club located in Fox Alaska 13 miles North of Fairbanks. The Last weigh station one sees going to Prudhoe Bay (500 + years of energy sitting under the tundra). Back with ya this small dinner house serves Prime Rib the best in the world they will provide you with seafood as well. The Chef who developed the recipe sells his seasoning on line under Executive Chef. Start with a nice fresh prime rib rub it with Executive Chef allow 12 hours in the fridge. more is better. Fill the bottom of an aluminum baking pan with rock salt. Set your prime rib on top of the rock salt ribs down. With another aluminum pan cut the bottom out flip upside down so it will contain the rock salt you cover the rib with. Cook I use Traeger with hickory. 225 until 165 turn up the heat to 300 to finish to your rib I like Rare finishing in the oven to desired temp. On their web site his aujus is amazing prep 1 day ahead. Enjoy. Not For Long left my household with their kneeling as we only kneel To Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour. God Bless you and yours.
Menagerie:
You could tell everyone that you are going to fix a good old fashion Irish Seven Course Dinner after the game.
There are some who will want to know what’s an Irish Seven Course Dinner….???
Everybody ready?
A potato and a six-pack!
Sundance, you’ve the right to be perturbed when an occasional post of yours serves up a side dish of tangency along side the essential meat and potatoes that you deliver consistently 24/7/365.
Your’s is the most essential lifeline available regarding political (i.e, Machiavellian) realities. Your ground reports: intensely welcome. Useful intelligence in the propaganda wars. Your predictions: uncanny.
My father once said, “There’s a reason we gather Chicken eggs, not rattlesnake eggs.” But you go right into the viper’s pit and serve up the omelettes.
The day’s not complete without a dose of CTH. Thank you for the work you do. Hope Poland’s provided some insights….
One of my gripes are people who think Sundance writes Menagerie’s posts.
2 points there.
I would think that when he has time, Sundance reads comments under Menageries’ articles.
Well, that’s different from actually writing them.
😎
I am an avid football fan
as well as a long suffering Bears fan
I used to live in Wisconsin for approximately
half a year so I suffered the Green Packer
fans telling me often how the Bears suck.
That said, I cannot stand the announcers
on radio and television, as well as the camera
people on game day, who drool over Taylor Swift
and Travis Kelce.
I had to turn off the last two games KC played
in because of this. The game is going on and
the camera is focused on and the announcers
going on an on about Taylor Swift.
It takes away from the sport. I am sure the
other NFL players don’t like it either but are
afraid to say a word.
not sure if I am going to watch the Superbowl.
Might just record it to watch later.
Although I like Purdy of San Fran; like his demeanor
and style of play.
Kyle Shanahan on the criticism Brock Purdy receives from the media:
“This is what I love about Brock. Last pick in the draft. Takes us to the conference championship game twice and this Super Bowl in two years. Getting talked about for MVP. And the dude, he doesn’t have to work at not listening to it or trying to stay humble or trying to not get caught up in how life is changing. You know why? He doesn’t care. He really has a true foundation and knows who he is and who he wants to be. That is rare for any human. He’s a special player.”
==
I find that quote quite refreshing in light of all things of late…
thanks for sharing it
The radio sports announcers used to be really good; better than tv because they had to pay attention and describe what was going on in the moment. The tv announcers always forget their jobs, thinking their watchers can see what is going on. Recently I listened to a football game on ESPN radio and they were as bad as the tv announcers. They forgot their jobs.
https://www.axios.com/2024/02/05/trump-maga-senate-border-deal-mcconnell
“Trump activates MAGA caucus to kill Senate border deal, weaken McConnell”
One of my gripes is people who put their turn signals on as they are making a turn. Happen a lot where I live.
And slow down to about 3 mph while they’re turning…off a 55mph highway!!!
I do that when making a 90 degree right hand turn from a 50 mph county road at an intersection.
That’s also because
(a) there is only a 3 ft wide gravel shoulder there so no right turn lane and
(b) I’m usually carrying cooked food in 9×13 pans inside insulated bags and I don’t wish to spill any of it by
(c) turning too quickly simply to not irritate the impatient driver behind me…..
So maybe folks might give them a little extra consideration since we don’t always know what they might be carrying that cannot sustain a “Mario Andretti racing turn”, and slow down as any good defensive driver should.
I had someone stop on a highway where everyone is going 60 mph and I was behind her. Fortunately I do not tailgate so instinctively, many years of driving experience, I drove off onto a shoulder, it was right passed an exit ramp and broader. Don’t tell me how young’uns have better reflexes…no I don’t think so. Driving experience super cedes all of that. I ended up parallel to her and I looked right into her car. She just drove on. I wonder if she realized how close she came to death for her and me? I doubt it.
16 years ago my SIL and nephew were killed in the manner you describe. We don’t know for certain why she stopped on the highway and the driver coming up behind her with the sun in his eyes had zero opportunity to get stopped.
I think possibly the exit she had just missed was the one she wanted to take and her automatic reaction was to stop, thinking she could take it. Of course, she was to far past to be able to do that.
So sorry to hear about your loved ones.
It is an impossible situation. I am fortunate as my reflexes and driver experience won the day but with sun in my eyes, not so sure and probably I would have died along with them.
The other driver was busted up bad and fortunate to survive. The one other passenger in my SILs car walked away without a scratch, inexplicable given the damage.
I’m grateful you were able to get over and safely stop.
That is a different situation being on a highway with exit ramps which are generally NOT at right angles to the travel lanes and don’t require slowing in the travel lanes to enter. You are correct in what you did.
Oh I would never credit young drivers with having great judgement on the road, although my son may be an exception. He took driving seriously at the age of 16 and has never been in an accident except once.
And that was a drunk driver who came across a median from the opposite lanes and hit him head on. My son saw him coming and had stopped in the right lane because my son was hemmed in by a guard rail on the right and a car to his left – no place to go.. So it was not his fault or a crash he could have avoided. it totaled his beloved ’87 Cougar but fortunately neither he nor his wife were seriously injured.
About 12 years ago he began teaching several teenagers in his neighborhood how to drive at the request of their parents. He has a car collection and had several Lincoln stretch limousines from the 1970s. He taught the girls in the limo because once they could handle that, they could handle any vehicle. The first month of lessons were all on a large vacant parking lot the still had all the parking space lines painted on. He had developed a very unique style of training the drivers. Each teen passed their State Drivers license test the first time they took it. He still gets requests to teach…
I’m surprised you didn’t say that the stopped driver tried to back up because she missed the exit ramp. I have witnessed that more than once, a few times with treacherous results…..
I know the feeling.
Retired Magistrate here: Well, this isn’t a gripe; it is a thankful post.
Today the sun is out and it is 41 degrees, a welcome change from the artic blast we had a week or so ago. The furnace is working, the driveway is clear, no trees are down, our windows aren’t leaking, my car is running, my brother is still alive, my husband is stable, I am able to take a walk down the road, we have enough food to eat and JESUS is still my savior!
A good day indeed.
A lesson for us all, Marcia.
Wake up in the morning…be grateful for that first…and give thanks for it.
Then be watchful for all the blessings which will follow. And be grateful for each one.
Does wonders for our spirit and our souls 🙏🏻
I’m working out of town and staying in a hotel, so I turned on the TV to see what nonsense is being spewed on FOX News. I cut the cable long ago in my house so I don’t watch it except when I’m in a hotel. Of course that potato head Cavuto is on and pandering to the Establishment while pushing the latest outrage from the Senate along with allowing Haley to trash President Trump while also pushing the CoC’s handout border bill. I could only tolerate it for about two minutes before I had to mash the mute button to save my sanity. FNC is no better than CNN or MSNBC for pandering to their preferred group. FNC = GOPe.
So glad I cut the cable when I did, about 8 years ago. Best thing I ever did.
Appreciate your exposing yourself to such garbage TV so as to update us on FNC’s continued rejection of probably half of America’s adults. It’s kind of sad to know there are still enough people still under the illusion that Fox are any different or better than the MSM.
Once you’ve embraced the fact that all of this is rubbish compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord, then you can easily pop a cold one, invite some friends, put some shrimp (or ribs) on the barby, and have a good time.
Or you can do the 1 Cor 6:12 bit by noting that all things are lawful but not all things are expedient, and as such, the Super Bowl is a super waste of time better spent on something else.
Eff the NFL. When they took the knee during the anthem they disrespected the flag, this country, and the many veterans who fought to protect this country. Pho-k ’em. I haven’t watched a game since, nor will I ever.
Love to you, Menagerie–with much appreciation.
Well … I am sitting here … right now … watching Man City play Brentford in the EPL. It’s currently 3-1 Man City on the brilliant hat trick by MY BOY, Phil Foden. Yes, I know virtually every roster of every EPL team. I play fantasy football … English football. And I am scoring BIG this week with Kevin DeBruyne, and Erling Haaland also on my roster. I wake up at 4:30 am West Coast time most Saturday mornings to watch live EPL.
I grew up a devoted NFL fan, literally crying at Ed Sabol narrated NFL films … “The Autumn Wind is a Raider …”. But the NFL has become a disgusting woke idiocracy. Yes, I will watch the Super Bowl … but only for the hope that CHRISTIAN Brock Purdy makes Taylor Swift and her Big Pharma vaccine pusher boyfriend sob in each others arms. But I won’t tune in to the “Black National Anthem” … and I won’t care about woke messages printed on the back of idiot players helmets. And I certainly won’t be influenced by any players rainbow wristbands.
Yeah … the NFL is boring. Perhaps they should do what the EPL does … and create at least two leagues. And in the top league … the 3 bottom finishers get relegated to the lower league. They face relegation. Perhaps that would improve the play in the league. It has certainly made the EPL into a much stronger well balanced league.
And don’t get me started on the utterly corrupt, woke, leftist numbskulls running the NCAA. They make me sick. Almost as sick as I was when “darling” Gov. Kristi Noem bent over and took a load from the NCAA. Sorry SEC fans … but College football is just as corrupt as the NFL … with the same woke FOOLS running the leagues.
As a Tennessean I couldn’t agree more. I’ve always wondered why the refs and the sportscasters all seem to hate the Vols. Confirmation bias perhaps?
As a WSU fan the implosion of the PAC 12, ended my all college sports viewing for me.
As a UC Berkeley alum who bides his time between future NFL Hall of Fame qb’s in quiet desperation … I must say … I have NO INTEREST in the ACC
I was just in northern Florida and made a run to Walmart. The store was packed with people…all (except for a handful) that were speaking anything but English. I was actually quite taken aback by this. I got the crap I needed and got out of there. Okay, I’m done.
Thanks.
Is a Super Bowl a big bowl of dip for chips?
OK, I’ll play. Is the super bowl still a thing? Means about as much to me as a one-time country music singer.
I think I’ll read my Bible and then talk some philosophy with Gus and Woodrow!
Sorry but the NFL is not the same. It has all changed and no longer worth supporting.
Live your best life.
I love food and football. Great combination
I especially like the BLM anthem. lol
No gripe from President Trump!

On this whole Taylor Swift/NFL thing, which I believe is obviously a put up job, …and the earlier Bud Light debacle, etc.
The original Star Trek series only lasted what,…2 seasons?
The longest running series, Law and Order which lasted 20 years was HATED by the networks and advertisers.
The point is, the people that produce “entertainment” have NEVER had a clue as to “what people want” and this goes back to way before they got blatantly “woke”.
THEY are trying to manipulate their audience, and yet they have NO CLUE who their audience is, what they like/think, and they have utter contempt FOR their audience.
We don’t give a rats ass about Taylor Swift, or kneeling. And Managerie is focusing on the only remaining part of SB that is any good; the food and the comraderie.
I was excited when I saw your post, Menagerie, because some of my best recipes have come from the ones you have posted prior and from the responses–all keepers and favorites everywhere I serve them–at home for a holiday or taking out to a group.
Thanks so much, friend.
The Expulsive Power of a New Affection by Thomas Chalmers says our old affections must be replaced by a new affection. Until that new affection is God and all the other enjoyments received as gifts from God, and one affections is hate, we will ever be searching for peace in our hearts.
