The Republican and Democrat primaries are on separate dates. Dem on Feb 3, GOP on Feb 24. Obviously someone should not be allowed to vote in both.
There are 3 people on the Dem primary ballot. A Biden loss in South Carolina isn’t likely to deprive him of the Dem nomination but I’m guessing the Dems want him to win. So some Dems will need to vote in the Dem primary on Feb 3.
The GOP primary is open, unfortunately. But the winner gets all of the delegates. So we need Trump to win. Please South Carolina Trump supporters, vote in the GOP primary! Do not let Haley win or it will prolong the primary season. Just remember, in 2016 Kasich hung in until early May. We want Haley out ASAP so Trump can focus on the legal distractions and the general election.
The DNC will chose their candidate during the Convention regardless of what happens during the primaries.
And if Biden hangs in that long and is crowned as expected, the DNC rules say they can choose his replacement then if necessary for (ahem) medical reasons.
This is what I fully expect.

Disentangling how many of those Haley votes really are Haley votes is somewhat difficult. You can look at so-called exit polls but they’re not going to be other than a rough guess. What we can tell from the results is that it looks like about a third of Democrats, or maybe as many as half, did in fact play games because Biden won the state in 2020 and yet if you look at the Democrat .v. Republican vote in the primary you have roughly 102,000 votes cast (as I write this) on the GOP side and about 33,000 cast for Democrats. There should be about 70,000 Democrat votes assuming the vote splits as it did in 2020 which implies very strongly that of Haley’s 47,000 effectively none of those votes are actual Republicans and in the general they would vote for Biden.
Yeah, that’s more than a bit nuts.
The bottom line is that Haley has no path. Nobody wants her in New Hampshire that would actually vote for a Republican in November. There are a bunch of Biden voters who would like to see her be there in place of Trump, whether because they honestly think Biden can beat her or they simply hate Trump doesn’t matter — either is enough for them to cross the tape.
Haley may try to stick around until Super Tuesday, but I’d like to know who’s going to keep funding it. These results make pretty clear what’s going to happen, and there’s really no way the math works for her since plenty of the states are closed primary and while some people will change registrations I wouldn’t bet on enough of them doing to it materially alter the count.

FYI, a friend attended a republican meeting and learned that there will not be a presidential primary in Missouri this year. I am sending the link so you can learn for yourself. In the video, they say if you want your voice heard, you must attend the caucus on 3/2/24 @ 10 AM. There is another meeting on 2/1/24- next Thursday. The link I am sending is a video of what will take place at that meeting. They will explain how the caucus works.
In the introduction, the moderator explains that he went to the Missouri House and Senate to testify on the importance of the primary for Missouri. I don’t know anything about the process, so I can’t comment, but I guess a bill was drafted? He says it barely made it out of the House and the Senate did not consider the bill. He states that there are going to be a lot of angry people once they realize this.

I know caucuses have their problems and also are not private affairs (everyone at your caucus site knows how you voted), but for the first time I found myself wishing that even the general election could be conducted by caucus.

I think caucuses are superior to primaries. You show up and your votes are counted right there. And I think they check ID too. It’s the closest thing we have to a fair election process.
The candidates need to get 15% of the votes to win any delegates, so Missouri voters should go out in large numbers to push Haley’s percentage below 15, if she’s still a candidate then.

I searched for more info about that picture and found it in a New Yorker article. The caption is “Jewish refugees, rescued from Auschwitz, arriving in Haifa in July, 1945.” I don’t know how anyone who survived that trauma managed to have a decent life or be even a halfway normal person.

I see from news this morning that a Russian transport plane that was bringing Ukrainian men back to Ukraine for a POW swap was shot down, all aboard were killed.
The Ukrainians had to know what that plane was as it was fulfilling an arrangement to exchange POW’s and did they shoot it down specifically on purpose to ratchet things up?
Would they have simply flung those poor guys back into the meat grinder, not restoring them to their families to rest and recuperate?
And what is the condition of the Russian men who are the POW’s that were to be exchanged? Were they even alive and well?

Something stinks to high heaven here. No way three guys get so drunk they pass out and freeze to death. I’ve heard of this sort of thing happening to individuals, but three at a time, no, not buying it. Sounds to me as if this Willis guy threatened to go public with something and was sent a warning.
One of the three would have had the presence of mind to say they have to get inside someplace warm and they would have started banging on different windows or gone to a house nearby or thrown something through a window or something, if they had been locked out.
Even if use of illicit street drugs were involved, how often do you hear about a group of three drug users or homeless buddies freezing to death?
I doubt this vaccine researcher hung out with the kind of people who would be stupid enough to get so jacked up that they would freeze to death.
