I hate to be captain obvious again, but maybe people have not noticed this story. Something isn’t right and just doesn’t add up. The events took place last Thursday, the comments by National Security Council spokesman John Kirby are today.
Look at the contrast between what U.S. Central Command put out -vs- the first AP report on the same incident.
Now look at the AP FIRST NOTICE reporting:
Two U.S. Navy SEALs are missing after conducting a nighttime boarding mission Thursday off the coast of Somalia, according to three U.S. officials.
The SEALs were on an interdiction mission, climbing up a vessel when one got knocked off by high waves. Under their protocol, when one SEAL is overtaken the next jumps in after them.
Both SEALs are still missing. A search and rescue mission is underway and the waters in the Gulf of Aden, where they were operating, are warm, two of the U.S. officials said. (read more)
We are supposed to believe that two naval special force operators, Navy SEALS, doing a ship-to-ship transfer, fully kitted, fell into the water, suddenly disappeared and could not be located in the two days between the CentCom announcement (Jan 11) and the AP report (Jan 13).

In my time as a youth, the draft was real and applied to all males. The major destination for these draftees was Vietnam. That had a habit of thinning out the these types of people. If you were not in the team mode, you didn’t fit in and strange stuff would happen. For a long time, the term killed by friendly fire scared the hell out of me.
Some of them found an easy way out before it got scary. Like a goofball in my basic flight (Air Force) who went to the head shed after a week or so and “confessed” to having used mary jane before going in. Administrative discharge and a plane ticket back home.

He died in a helicopter crash going on a rescue mission. An inquiry revealed that the aircraft had been improperly deployed after being tagged as needing serious repairs.

But I read a post that speculates a good bit about this news story. Some of the speculations:
The disappearance of the SEALs surprisingly coincided with a massive attack by the Yemeni Houthis. Was a US ship hit?
This could possibly be a US Navy operation against the Somali branch of ISIS or it could have been an attempt to land special forces on Yemeni territory.
Or it could be an attempt to cover for SEAL losses somewhere else, for example in a hotel in Kharkov that the Russians bombed.
All perfect valid possibilities.
Or they knew too much about the REAL reasons why Lloyd Austin is out of sight and nobody knew or knew why.

We have been doing this for decades. Technically, legally, it is not authorized in the constitution.
No way the front story is true. If the Houthis hit a ship run by the Seals and sunk it or seriously damaged it and personnel, that would definitely be a story they would have to censor. It shows weakness in our Seal fleet to whatever the Houthis used. Bannon has been barking that a US ship would sink if the Russian hypersonics were given to the Houthis/Yemeni. If the weapon was Russian, then, we are in direct unacknowledged conflict with them on two fronts.

If they were climbing up a ladder boarding a vessel it would have been rigged on the leeward side of the vessel away from the swells (waves as the non-nautical type wrote). Any seaman worth their salt would have known that. No way anyone who’s responsible for rigging the ladder would put it where the swells would endanger those embarking. The trouble with telling lies is you don’t know (or care) who is listening and someone can always blow holes in it. We will know soon enough by the simple fact that standard search and rescue operations last 72 hours for man overboard. there is one notable exception to this rule of thumb and that was the National Guard rescue diver aftera emergancy water landing in a storm, we searched for him for 2 weeks because he had special survival training. If they give up the search for 2 Navy Seals in less than 2 weeks the fix is in.

For what it is worth…retired SEAL Carl Higbie of Newsmax was on the air this morning. He said Biden’s failed policies killed those SEALs. There were huge waves with multiple SEALs hanging on a very narrow rope ladder. SEALs carry 60+ lbs of stuff on their backs. Three SEALs were on that ladder holding on for a while being slammed up against the vessel. One just couldn’t hold on any longer.
Why is there no identification of the ship they were climbing? Cargo, military, what nation?

Yep, US Special Operators like SEALs have waterproof, ruggedized Emergency Personal Locator Beacons that they can activate if they get hurt or in distress. Navy CSAR can home in on them. They also have IR strobes, radios, and other methods of being found and rescued. It might be possible one beacon failed but two SEALs together with no way to find them? Not very likely.

It can be dang hard to find a man, or two men, in open seas. If they were in full battle rattle (which on the mission so described, isn’t a bad assumption), they could sink like a stone. Being highly qualified frogmen helps, i.e. they’ve been trained to dump gear, swim out of harms way, pop floatation vests which would automatically light off beagons and radio signals, but they aren’t supermen. Bad things happen to good men at sea, and for the good men whose job requires going in harms way. It’s a tough operating environment. Depending on the positioning of the supporting units (e.g. aircraft, ships, boats, etc.), the sea state, weather, light, how soon the on seen mission leader was aware of the loss, again, it’s amazingly difficult to locate and spot two men in the water. Just saying, folks …
When it comes to anything coming out of the Biden White House, however, I echo Sundance’s concerns about the actual mission these men were involved with, and how and were they were lost. “MIA, Lost at sea” could indeed, be an easy way to cover for “lost in enemy action” in a place the US isn’t legally supposed to be fighting.
