This op-ed published in Politico is intended to sound the alarm about President Donald Trump fundamentally destroying the system of career civil service agents in Washington DC, and it’s also a little funny.
I mean, if you built an echo-chamber ideological in magnitude and scale, then self-isolated inside the DC beltway barrier, this would be exactly the type of alarm to follow.
POLITICO – […] President Donald Trump’s sweeping proposal to convert thousands of career civil servants into political appointees if he wins a second term in the White House. That plan — which has won the support of powerful, Trump-aligned conservative think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation and the America First Policy Institute — is modeled on an executive order from Trump’s first term that redesignated 20,000 civil servants in policy-related positions as “Schedule F” employees, thereby allowing them to be fired unilaterally by the president.
[…] Americans should not underestimate the damage that the reforms would do to the federal government’s ability to deliver basic services in a timely and efficient manner. “At the end of the day, it’s intuitive,” he said. “If you are selecting people on the basis of their political persuasion or their loyalty as opposed to their expertise and their commitment to the public good, you’re going to wind up with less good service and more risk for the American people.” (MORE)
Apparently, Mr. Max Stier has misread the room.
Dear, DC Career Civil Servants,
FU!
Warmest regards,
America
I live in Middle TN and work in Franklin, TN. Back around 2012 a new building was being built on prime retail property. There was never any indication of what the building was for – no signs of coming soon. It’s a 5 story building with a huge parking lot. From our office we watched it being built and then watched the semis full of office furniture arrive. I myself saw 5 semis of brand new office furniture delivered.
There were never any signs on the building. No mention of what it was about. Then we saw a Federal Police vehicle patrolling the building. Turns out it’s an IRS call center. Most of the cars that were parked in the lot were from another county – Davidson (which is Nashville). There would be an ambulance showing up at the place at least once a week. When we heard sirens we knew it was always at the IRS. I’ve never seen so many overweight people enter one building every day.
One time a coworker decided to go there to get some help on a tax questions. She walked into the building and asked to talk with someone. First question she got, how do you know about us. No one is supposed to know what we do here. What? Then she was escorted out and told to never come inside again.
When covid hit the parking lot was empty. The building stood empty for 2 years. It’s still basically empty to this day. There’s maybe 20 vehicles there on a good day.
You want to know what the useless IRS employees do? Nothing. They all work from home. But let’s throw another 80,000 workers at them to screw the taxpayers.
aries9899: Very interesting story.
When Trump wins the 2024 election and if he, and the country aren’t disenfranchised again by the democrat cheat machine, he needs to cut the government by 80% on day one. After that he can selectively get rid of another 50% of those remaining.
No unelected person working in the government should be immune to termination as that clearly leads to corruption of the system, the best way to correct it, I think, is for President Trump to rescind the 1962 executive order 10988 President Kennedy signed. With that President Trump can stop the insanity of public sector unions that are corrupting and bankrupting the governments of cities and states all over the country.
First, that EO does nothing about state/city unions. Second, fed is “right to work” so number of employees “represented” is way different from “dues paying”. Third, fed unions mostly applicable to blue-collar type jobs which have greatly declined, not related to policy jobs. No one in gov’t is “immune from termination”, but termination for performance is difficult, especially if employee is in an EEO protected group.
Oh noes. We might become at will employees – like the private sector – and be expected to show up and do the work. You could fire 2/3 of the federal work force today – and it actually might improve the service.
We RIFed lots of civs via OMB A-79 process that mandated “private-public competition”. Turning the work over to contractors doesn’t really make it better. The real problem is getting govt out of areas it doesn’t need to be in – not arguing over who does the work.
Ever seen the DMV? Its the three stooges. You could eliminate 80% of government workers and no one would notice, especially management.
Follow the Twitter model. They floated out tons of dead wood.
It takes all of these people to take our money and take away our freedoms.
All while they get the biggest raise in over 40 years…over 5%.
Government needs to go.
My concern is that President Trump will not take a big enough hatchet to it.
Where is the discussion about what Trump just said wanting to build the FBI a spectacular new building and have them clean up DC? Trump isn’t going to clean out the swamp by doing this; he just will be further empowering them. I wish I could believe he would clean things up, I just don’t.
Do you know why all the agents coming are from Libtard US Education system they are already brainwashed in socialism marxism and communism.
I saw that. I hope he clarifies. I’m looking for a reason to stay home next November and, if he’s serious, that might just seal things.
Yours has to be the most ignorant comment posted on here all year long.
If you can’t see whatever we get from President Trump is better than communism then you need to crawl back into the womb and start over.
Let him do what he can and will…then put in a hard as***ed person to finish the job.
KariLake or Mark Robinson come to mind.
Step by step we’ll get the job done.
Truly hope and pray Mark Robinson is the next governor of North Carolina.
Bill and Steve are RDS/Haley trolls/bots.
Go move to Cuba or Venezuela.
You need to read between the lines. What Trump is saying is that he is positive he can clean up the FBI and return it to what it once was.
What it once was? It has ALWAYS been corrupt. ALWAYS. J Edgar was it’s daddy and he was the most corrupt blackmailer that this country has ever known. He makes the Clintons look like amateurs. He was deeply in bed with the Mob, and was involved in keeping things such as the JFK assassination under wraps. Things have not improved from when he died to today. Burn it down and sew salt in the earth upon which it stood. Put its employees in the breadline. That would be how you clean up the FBI.
Totally agree!
It’s like trying to turn cancer into something good.
Do you replace a cancer tumor with a newer and better cancer tumor?
But how much of the middle class is built on government jobs, funded by deficit spending, which is really “money printing” pretending to be “borrowed money” that we pretend our grandchildren will one day pay back?
If we don’t stop the pretending (printing money)then reality will stop it all with a loud crash.
But what’s it going to look like. And how long will it take the private sector to replace the middle class (high paying) government jobs?
What we end up with might look more like Mexico than Switzerland.
And yet, here the rest of us are—exulting over the idea.
Go figure.
Follow what Milei is doing in Argentina. Total blueprint for overbloated corrupt govt
As others have said, if you shut down a department you can RIF (Reduction in Force) everyone in that department.
Some local/state governments have in the past used the device of reassigning to geographically undesirable locations or departments where the employee can do no harm. Some employees leave rather than move.
I know of a local government that moved a formerly highly-place “director” to an office in a different building with a desk and a telephone but nothing else. The phone never rang. No work. He still received his salary until he retired (which he did in less than a year).
My point is there are ways to get people out, so when it is said that you can’t fire a federal employee, I think “well, that’s not quite true. . . ”
Once these people are out of the federal government, President Trump may consider hiring outside of the Ivy League and Stanford. The children of friends who were educated elsewhere seem less indoctrinated than the children who went to the Ivy League or Stanford.
President Trump should hire away from Massachusetts/Connecticut/New York/ Pennsylvania/Maryland etc. and of course the Bay Area (Northern California), coastal Oregon and coastal Washington. MAGA should hire from the rest of the country, state schools, religious schools, Hillsdale College, and the like.
coastal Oregon is far less liberal than Portland/Eugene.
oops! I thought coastal Oregon was Portland/Eugene. I meant Portland.
It is not just the departments that must be dealt with. He must also shut down tens of thousands of useless spending programs and terminate tens of thousands of consultants.
RIF comes with its own problems (like bumping rights) so typical is for management to prefer things like VERA/VSIP (essentially, paying people to quit).
It’s a lot more than just those in DC that need to be fired. There are a lot of agencies that need to be done away with and get back to doing what the Constitution gives the government permission to do. A few agencies need to stay but most can go.
Let’s start with repealing the Home Land Security Act and keep our shoes on at the airports.
Not only should he fire them, he should strip the pensions from as many as possible.
Our federal government was not designed to employ more people than the private sector.
“… federal government’s ability to deliver basic services in a timely and efficient manner.” REALLY?! You’ve got to be kidding me… When was the last time that you wanted to hear from the irs, fib, cai, dhs?
FJB
And while he’s at it, let’s revoke JFK’s EO 10925 that created affirmative action for contractors. To me one of the most important things to do is to get government at all levels to quit playing these blasted racial bean counting games.
I’m sure that a LOT of those contractors follow the Georgia model.
A black figurehead, and a white guy standing behind him, calling the shots.
May this Sundance title become reality in 2024.
We can have a MAGA 🎉 Party 🥳 and wish these leeches “good by” and “please don’t let the door hit you on your way out” in pursuit of a job somewhere else!
Oh no! Who will think of the poor civil servants! They work so hard at shafting the American people! Oh the humanity!
Don’t worry. Larry Fink & SorosJr will hire them all.
“Americans should not underestimate the damage that the reforms would do to the federal government’s ability to deliver basic services in a timely and efficient manner…,” Politico article said.
“…basic services…” What a joke the Politico author makes!
Robert F. Kennedy Jr: The Canadian trucker protests perfectly demonstrated why CBDC must be resisted as if our lives depend on it.
Retribution is on its way and I can’t wait!
They will learn that they have been living in a fantasy world.
