This is a terrible tragedy. As much as the politics of this event will really anger me, we should learn from this experience and get the training and the tools to save lives. Maybe you’ll find yourself in a situation where you could stabilize someone bleeding out. The first minutes are crucial and if you can keep someone from bleeding out there’s a good chance second line care can save them.

This is so weird. There was another mass shooting in Bowdoin in April. A 34 y/o gunman killed his parents and a couple whose house they were visiting. The gunman left and started shooting at cars. He managed to hit 3 more people. One was badly injured.

But, back in idk the 80’s maybe, they started having Medical Dr.’s with 1 semester of psychology start writing scripts for SSRI’s and other potent psychotropic meds, even tho they had no specialised training.

Sherri…I am not here to argue, although I love to do so, but my point is that if a supposed conceal carry weapon is not comfortable it will not be carried and likely not for more than ten minutes or so…if that…I have owned dozens of firearms and the only one…the ONLY one….that I don’t unconsciously lay down was and is the Kel-Tec P3AT…and as stated it isn’t easy to shoot accurately but it is an accurate pistol.
It’s lightweight. It has adequate power and accuracy….but the single most important thing about “concealed carry” is that you carry it and are proficient with it and are willing to use it.
The P3AT…in .380 ACP…fulfills the carry function like no other pistol I have researched or purchased….hands down.
Ruger builds an almost exact copy, albeit a bit smoother finish, but has no knife clip rendering it a distant 2nd place.
If the pistol isn’t on your person…when you need it…it is functionally useless.

My father taught me to shoot tin cans with his pistol when I was about seven years old. Unfortunately, that was decades ago and I haven’t kept it up at all. I never knew how to take care of a gun. There are things I need to get caught up on.
About ten years ago, my brother and I went out to some land I owned at the time to try out taking a shot or two again. He was pretty shocked when I nailed the target on the first shot with a .380.
But you are right. I should do something about learning to shoot properly and put some thought into being prepared to use a gun if necessary. My brother and sister and I own land where a friend and I can go and shoot. In fact, I caught a couple of trespassers out there at dusk last week.

Why does there even need to be a bill?
Because Veterans who might have another care for any of their needs or obligations were casually labeled by the VA as unable to conduct their own affairs and promptly stripped of their weapons and rights.
Were I unhappily married and trusting her with the bills I’d be at risk of being disenfranchised.
I am happy to see this legislation passed because it caused serious problems to a large number of veterans. There were quite a few who had their rights taken away because of worthless busybodies in the VA. I personally know two veterans I served with who had to give up their guns.
The article describes it only impacting those veterans who were assigned a fiduciary to handle the veterans finances, but that is false based on a number of veterans that it happened to during Obungle’s Reign of Error.
The VA was very sneaky about how they did this.
When a veteran goes to an appointment, there is always a VA flunky who does intake before the appointment. They get vitals, ask a few questions, often ask questions about the latest fad research the VA is pushing, then they slip in a question of who might pay the bills at home. There might be variations of the question, or they might outright ask if you need any help with finances.
It has happened to me twice.
If the veteran answers wrong, the flunky will take it upon themselves to report that the veteran as incompetent to handle their own finances, and the veteran is reported to NCIS. There have been instances where fiduciaries are assigned (sometimes VA employees are assigned over family members) and the fiduciary has complete control over the veterans finances, with some stealing money from the veteran.
VA employees have gone to jail for this.
The only recourse for the veteran is to go to court to prove themselves competent enough to regain their rights.
It’s an absolute travesty that it has taken so long for this legislation to be passed.

He was most definitely on some meds, There is a connection between some meds and people going on rampages.
I remember a few years back in the news a local guy was put on ssri’s then he shot someone a few days later.
High % of the time, ssri’s cause some very undesirable side effects, like well, frankly being incredibly horny, but unable to achieve orgasm.
This can, understandably cause some patients to A) be embarrassed to discuss with the Dr. and B) cause the patient to suddenly stop taking.
IF the patient is going to stop, the prefered way is by TAPERING off, as stopping suddenly can cause psychotic episodes.
So, somebody lost their job, so their wife left them, dog died cause they couldn’t pay the vet, got evicted and so they are understandably depressed.
They call suicide hotline and get put on these pills…side effect develops which certainly doesn’t help, then they stop pills, and go nutzo.

The Supreme Court will decide this term if a federal law prohibiting possession of firearms by people subject to domestic violence protection orders is Constitutional—in other words, if an abuser who has a protection order or restraining order against them can legally keep their guns.
If the court rules this law unconstitutional, it would seem to follow that prohibiting possession of firearms by those subject to mental health issues could also be ruled unconstitutional. Mental health issues can result from a multitude of reasons and certainly many of them don’t cause people to go out and shoot up their fellow citizens.
As the SCOTUS ruled in Bruen, public safety can only be considered for gun violence if comparable historical laws did so as well.

I picked her up at 6:30pm and she stated later at home, the guy in the photo was in her clinic this afternoon with no id and wanting to be a new patient. We are gutted here and on hyper alert. Since 99% of these mass public shootings occur in gun free kill zones (cause these shooters are crazy, not stupid) can we agree to eliminate such zones, entirely as a first step?

It is early to comment on this story, but there have been reports that the suspect has mental health issues and received treatment at a hospital for a few weeks.
If true, I wonder if a drug they gave him caused a psychosis that led to this rampage? Don’t know what his issues are, or if it is true he received care for mental illness but I do know that antidepressant drugs can have unintended results on some people.
