All the old testament predictions regarding the messiah were contradictory, hence made no sense.
Only in HINDSIGHT, did they make PERFECT sense, and all fit Jesus, and only Jesus ‘perfectly’.

While I, too, don’t believe the days of Revelation can be ascertained with absolute certainty, I do think we may be more accurate in recognizing the signs than we were in the past. Evenso, there were those wisest of men who did, in fact, believe they recognized the signs of His coming and they were correct.

They weren’t all contradictory, as various Scriptures pointing to different aspects of the Messiah’s ministry is not contradictory versus noting various truths that were be borne out over time. That could’ve been taken as such by people being caught the commandments of men (cf. Mark 7:7), especially as those men were about to be review for doing so (cf. Matthew 23). An example of what could and did occur related to Micah 5:2 — “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”
Though many apparently knew that the verses from Micah applied to the Messiah / Christ, there was some apparent stumbling over locations in the time of Jesus, who was associated with Nazareth and Galilee. In one case, some raised questions about the prophecy, questions evidently laden with assumptions: “Surely the Christ does not come out of Galilee? Has not the Scripture said that Christ comes out of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” (cf. John 7:41-42). There’s something that evidently seemed contradictory and might not have made sense to some, but the problem wasn’t the message being contradictory versus the shortcomings of those receiving it
In another case, Nicodemus asked some of the religious leaders concerning Jesus: “Does our Law judge the man unless first it has heard from him and known what he does?” (John 7:51). In reply: “They answered and said to him, “Are you not also from Galilee? Search and see that a prophet is not raised out of Galilee”” (John 7:52). It appears that many — even the disciple sometimes — tended to talk amongst themselves, even when Jesus was often right in front of them and could be asked questions or to clear up a misunderstanding. Let that be a lesson for us when we have questions to turn directly to God, ask for wisdom and guidance, and hear His word.

For sure the book of Revelation is very relevant today. Even though there is much room for uncertainty in understanding it, the words of Jesus in Matthew 24 are very helpful.
Specifically, Jesus points to when you see the abomination spoken of by Daniel the prophet . . . then shall be great tribulation . . . then immediately after the tribulation . . . they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven.
Daniel 9.27 speaks of “the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate” happening in the middle of “one week” when “he shall cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease.”
Based on other Scriptures many understand this “week” not to be a 7 day period, rather to be a 7 year period. Also in this verse a covenant for one week is mentioned.
Who is “he” in Daniel 9.27? What is the covenant? What is the abomination of desolation? How can the sacrifice and oblation cease if it isn’t even being practiced? [By the way check out 2 Thessalonians 2.4 among many others]
These are all key to understanding Revelation which includes the DRAMATIC high point of the return of Christ in chapter 19.
By the way Revelation chapter one proclaims a blessing on all who read, hear, and keep all the things which are written therein.
Also, a helpful hint. When you want to know something about the Bible, try asking God. Be specific and watch for an answer.
