Us v Them is the very crux and definition of Judaism, and their Covenant. If the jews keep their covenant to treat each well and to help each other against other peoples, then God approves of them.
Us v Them, and ‘Them’ is inferior. That is the essence of Judaism. Without those two things (and they are sort of not detachable), there is no Judaism. It is absolutely a nation, not a religion.

How that relates after the second covenant was made, I am uncertain, as no reference have I been able to find whether that promise was extended or cancelled. That’s why I proceed with caution on the current nation-state.
