DeSantis never had the skills to be a strong presidential candidate. Additionally, he’s not that smart, and once the facade around him started to fall away, people saw the real person, the weakness, not the carefully fabricated image his handlers tried to create over the prior 3 years.
The most unfortunate outcome is not that DeSantis is failing, it’s that speaking from a position of freedom and liberty, Florida was a better place prior to his election in 2018. While he managed the COVID-19 pandemic reasonably well, the state he governed has been messed up by DeSantis’ total control of the state legislature just to give him the illusion of social policy ‘wins’. I don’t like the thought of what comes next in the big gov takeover using the tools he created. It’s a hot mess.

I worked there for 25 years before Covid (not everything about it turned out to be bad, I work from home now). Lots of people like me fleeing to Florida, Tennessee, Arizona, Texas.

Not so much because they don’t think crime is down, but one gets the sense that they don’t really care if it is or isn’t.
Crime is just one of those things we need to deal with; break a few eggs to make an omelet sort of thing.

My ancestry in NYS goes back at least 180 years. My great-great grandfather fought and died with an upstate NYS regiment in the Civil War, and it goes back further than that.
Although I’ve been yearning to move to Eastern Tennessee for the last two decades, I need to remain in New York for work and family reasons. I AM, at least, in the process of moving out of NYC, so I will soon be vacating Eric Adams’ hellhole. I still have some hope that NYS can improve, especially if election fraud can be prevented (BTW, Mike Lindell swears he has a foolproof plan, to be revealed later today).

There is affordable housing, you just need to think about it differently.
Buy a fixer upper, as in everything but the roof needs replacing. And maybe even the roof. You can find them for around $20-30k. Property taxes will be very low. Pay cash. Sometimes people will give them away for the cost of the land. Make sure it’s small, say 900-1400 sq ft to keep costs as low as possible.
Fix it up. Use Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, garage sales to source your materials. My uncle used to find all kinds of good stuff put out on trash day, like windows, doors etc.
Learn a skill or 10. Learn framing, roofing, carpentry, plumbing, electrical. Barter for what you need.
It might take a while but you will have learned some very useful skills and saved a lot of money.
Better, make the outside decent but not all that nice so when the taxman comes visiting, as he will, your rate stays as low as possible.
And that’s how you beat the system.
Of course if your style is keep up with the Joneses, then you’ll pay lots for such a house and the accompanying taxes.

Unfortunately I live in Commiefornia for part of the year and it does seem like one big construction zone. Major public infrastructure projects seem to last a decade here and costs are exorbitant. At times it seems like Caltrans exists only to make traffic worse by shutting down lanes and entire major highway intersections during peak traffic hours. I really hate this state and consider myself lucky that I only live here part time now.

want fair trades practices that could include tariffs if other countries are not playing fair?
want government agencies to serve the people equally vs a 2 tier system and where the agencies are held accountable if they work against the citizens?
want a government that allows each citizen to determine if they want to take a vaccine or any treatment and not face any retribution?
want their representatives in Congress to produce a budget annually and one that works at dramatically reducing the deficit?
want their elected representatives in Congress to serve this country dutifully but with term limits?
want parents to have full say and control over their children until adulthood?
want to allow their school property tax dollars to follow the child vs the public school where they live in order to encourage better learning standards?
and finally, want to put Americans first in virtually all policies produced?
So after reading this list, I ask again, who wouldn’t want these things?
The simple answer is someone who is anti-America and anti-our Constitution. Someone who hates true freedom and the power being in the hands of the people.
So going forward this is a good evaluator tool where if any candidate or influencer can not verbally, publicly and via their prior actions demonstrate they support these basic common sense American freedoms and expectations then they are a fraud and ultimately anti-America.
Americans need to rally behind these basic principles, values and beliefs as the above is what America is about and what we ALL need to stand for is we want to Keep America Great!

The US military should be guarding our borders and nothing else. No standing army.
I want all policies to be America First, not just “virtually all”. America First, America Only, America Always. Not a dime sent overseas to any other country for any reason.

I give Sundance major credit for his early identification of DeSantis being pushed, prodded and ultimately used by the anti-Trump forces as their “stand in”. I pushed back hard, defending RD against early judgement. Sadly, his hubris was too easily stimulated and he fell for it.
DeSantis has done a number of good things in Florida, but the distractions and temptations for power are wrecking his state leadership, and his future viability. That may be political toy play relative to this presidential campaign but is setting him up for weakening in a key critical state. Forget the presidential ambitions or immediate future of DeSantis. He is one of the walking dead in that regard. Let’s not bury him in his own state, less it open a massive black hole for the evil left to fill.
Florida is starting to feel a bit ragged. Many impacted by the long term after effects from Ian are getting no relief. Property insurance is skyrocketing, and so many companies are leaving. Inflation is highest here, for many reasons. The flush of heavy population growth strains selected areas. It is a ripe environment for regression.
I retired last year, having worked in SW FL for almost 11 years. We loved living in paradise, but decided to sell and return to our fine conservative Midwest state. It was more important to live near our family, and frankly we are loving it. I still believe the cabal will find every avenue to restrict Trump from running or winning. Rammy is a very solid candidate whom I am considering as an alternative, if necessary, to Trump. He is the only one I think I could consider at this point.
President Trump is the sole candidate offering America First economic and foreign policies. He’s the only one who says the 2020 election was stolen and so he is the only one who will work to end rigged elections.
Vivek is another globalist candidate (dressing up as MAGA). He is in favor of globalist economic policies such as TPP which would move American large swaths of middle class jobs overseas.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say DeSantis isn’t smart. His handling of COVID demonstrated that he’s profoundly competent when it comes to intelligent leadership from the front. But good leadership requires clarity of principles. Now we’ve seen that DeSantis doesn’t have principles outside of isolated crises like COVID, and it’s because he never understood the MAGA principle outside what was necessary to advance his political career. However, when he’s positioned against Trump, the mask comes off easily. You can’t out-MAGA the creator of MAGA.
Objectively speaking, DeSantis would have been much better off being a “fixer” for Trump and serving as his vice president in 2024 then serving for two terms afterwards. Unfortunately, for deep-seeded reasons as Sundance pointed out, that was never in the realm of possibility. I think in that sense, DeSantis’s judgment is poor. Selling out his soul to the GOPe probably destroyed what he wanted most, which is the opportunity to become president. And good riddance!
