I was going to comment on hoping to see a follow up thread about DeSantis vs. Trump head-to-head appearance at the Iowa State Fair from Sundance.
DeSantis needs to forget about campaigning and do something to fix the extreme rise in Homeowners Insurance fees in Florida. $10,000 + a year for Homeowners is outrageous for anyone, let alone for a homeowner who has only had one small claim in the past 23 years. The state gave the approval for Insurance companies to increase costs by 55%. How many people in Florida are going to lose their homes because they can’t afford the extra 500 to 1200 a month for homeowners insurance. There are a lot of retired people here who probably don’t have that much extra to spend each month. This is crazy and it’s only going to get worse in October when the state starts charging every homeowner a 1% “Emergency Assessment Fee” to cover claims when an insurance company goes bankrupt.
Florida is going to hell fast on DeSantis’s watch.
Florida needs the governor it was promised and America needs the President they already re-elected once.

Up here if one has no mortgage, an owner often buys a small policy to cover liability for personal injury to an individual or individuals.

No! It’s only for the balance owed the mortgage company. In some cases you only need to have enough insurance to cover the mortgage balance. It just depends on your insurance carrier some require the policy to cover the value of the house less the land value. If your home is owned free and clear you don’t need hurricane insurance.
I do not know about Florida, but I think you can only be forced to pay insurance if you have a loan on the property. 12 years ago I was paying $3500 year in an urban area, modest old home, had a small claim denied…..and I said the hell with it. I will take my chances and dropped the insurance. So fed up with medical costs may just start self-funding that as well. In 25 years I have had less than $5000 in med expense, both from accidents not illness. I would have a hefty pile of money had I dropped the insurance and took my chances.
Renters can purchase a renters insurance to cover any unexpected loss of personal belongings if the building is damaged….but, it is voluntary.

There is a blogger known as “Librarian” that has translated some works of Russian scientist Lev Nikolayevich Gumilyov. In the link below is a very detailed history of the various ethnic and cultural history of the area of Ukraine.
Western Ukraine, which includes the major city of Lvov, was for several centuries known as Galicia, and part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This Polish-Lithuanian culture was predominately oriented to Western Europe and the Catholic Church. Russians living in these areas were mostly Orthodox Christians and oriented to Russian and Eurasian cultures. In the 16th Century they were persecuted by the Polish-Lithuanian authorities.
Eastern Ukraine, including Odessa along the Black Sea, was part of the Russian Empire since the 18th Century. This culture was predominately Cossacks and Russians and was always oriented to Russia and the Orthodox Church.
According to a theory by Lev Nikolayevich Gumilyov, two such diverse “super-ethnic” groups such as the Western Europeans and Russians, can live peaceably, as long as their peoples are not intermingled on the same land area. “In peace, but apart,” as Gumilyov said.
The 1991 Ukraine borders tend to violate this principle in that western and eastern Ukraine have very different cultures, part of two different “super-ethnic” groups.

Dutchman. I want to first clarify I don’t understand you to say the things I’m about to mention aren’t important, but maybe rather their importance is subjective. Moreover, the way in which these topics are addressed can hurt the goal of unity.
I think that language and symbols are significant vehicles for unity. What I see in my community is a rejection, or at least an aversion to, of English and the American flag. There are houses in my neighborhood that fly the Mexican flag, and it isn’t uncommon to see Mexican flags on people’s cars. More common is the colors of the Mexican flag on car stickers.
As for language, while I understand the first amendment and that we don’t have a national language, I see how language divides and we end up with cultural enclaves. As a small example, a “Korean” church was built adding 5 years ago just beyond the existing boundary of where you experience a strong Korean presence. About a year ago, temporary signs in Spanish indicated the “Korean” church no longer congregated there. And in my interpretation, the language in the temporary signs indicated who was really desired at the location were Spanish speakers. Sure, anyone could go but when everything is Spanish, I see Hispanic unity, not American unity.
I guess what I’m getting at is I don’t know if this should be challenged/addressed or if it’s really a good thing for our country to have these cultural enclaves. It doesn’t feel like the people in my neighborhood have love for the country and, in fact, seem to have stronger affection for their homeland. They model this to their children. Am I amplifying a divisive narrative by voicing these concerns? I don’t understand you as saying that and even if you are, that’s fine. I’m just curious.

But let’s assume they are being completely honest. Supporting causes costs $, so their plans aren’t very competitive in price. For example, Mint Mobile is currently $15/month for unlimited data. Tello is $30 for same. Ting is $45/month for unlimited data. Patriot charges $35/month for only 3 gig. A 40 gig plan from them is $75/month. They don’t even HAVE an unlimited data plan. There are at least 10 other carriers that are cheaper as well.
Personally, I just want a mobile carrier to provide THAT, as cheaply and reliably as possible. If I want to support causes, I do it by direct contribution.

The video still was worth scrolling through for an up close and personal look at PTrump doing retail politics. It was a whistle stop type of thing and he mixed with the people in a couple of places and spoke at the end and introduced all the Congress people from Florida with him. Then they followed him to this plane where he did a photo op with his Iowa supporters…I think it is worth a scroll through and stopping to watch the parts you are interested in.
Sunny and others, what was really informative was that Brian and the RSBN camera man kept filming as they followed Trump around. I never realized what hard work it was, especially for the cameraman lugging that equipment around, to follow Trump around to various locations, he is walking also, but they have to maneuver around people and well every thing and figure out where he is going.
You can hear the cameraman saying where are we going and Brian saying be careful don’t hit anyone with that camera. Then they get on this bus which I guess is for the media and the media is getting on and I think this guy is pouring himself a shot of whisky and the woman sits next to him and she is breathing hard.. they are following Trump to the airport…this was really very informative and I appreciate RSBN letting us see what it is like! You really have to be in good shape especially the cameraman! I really hope they pay him well!

I think the combination of fraud and the massive inclusion of zero information voters previously filtered out by the effort required to vote and now sent unsolicited ballots by mail will have the same effect it had in 2020 and 2022, perhaps even more if the Dims nominate youngish, slick, clever liar Newsom.

Watch Dem headquarters or sites where they give out info. See if people coming and going with ballots. Petition to clean up voter rolls and to limit mail out ballots. Start harassing the RNC for inaction .The RNC should be filing suits right now to change vote rules back to the way they were.
