It may be entirely possible in Illinois now for a police officer to demand to see your papers for identity compliance even though that police officer may be an illegal alien who broke U.S. law to enter the United States.
Under a bill recently signed by Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker, illegal aliens can now become police officers. The downstream ramifications of this effort are not difficult to imagine.
As if the crisis of confidence in the U.S. legal and law enforcement system was not under enough pressure, the reality of lawbreaking foreign nationals and border crossers now controlling law enforcement is a rather remarkable escalation in social fracture.
NewsWeek – […] The measure—House Bill 3751—successfully passed the Democratic-controlled state House and the state Senate before being signed into law by the Democratic governor last week. The bill, which will come into force on January 1, 2024, allows eligible immigrants who are not in possession of U.S. citizenship to join law enforcement in Illinois—something that federal laws currently forbid.
[…] Eligible non-U.S. citizens are subject “to all requirements and limitations, other than citizenship, to which other applicants are subject,” and must be able to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm under federal law.
Foreign nationals “against whom the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have deferred immigration action under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process” will also be eligible, according to the bill’s text.
That means that individuals who came to the country illegally as children and received a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation—known as the DACA process—will be able to apply to become police officers in Illinois. DACA recipients are protected from deportation and have a work permit, though the program does not grant them official legal status. (read more)

I’m a lifelong grassroot conservative Illinoisan and I hate this law. I call myself a grassroot conservative to differentiate myself from the establishment types that run both the Illinois and national GOPe.
The hangout of the Illinois GOPe isn’t Sea Island like it is for the national GOPe. Instead, it’s oddly enough Lake Geneva, WI, which also happens to be the hangout of the Illinois Democratic establishment.
Non-citizens, including both legal and illegal non-citizens, but especially illegal non-citizens, have no right to enforce the law on American citizens.
Illinois is a geographically conservative state that is controlled by liberal Chicago as shown in this 2020 presidential election map broken down by precinct. This map shows that Illinois is actually more geographically conservative than Mississippi.

Splitting Chicago from the rest of Illinois is the only way to save the rest of Illinois from Chicago’s liberal idiocy.
I support splitting Chicago off from the rest of Illinois. This would solve the problem of Illinois being a geographically conservative state controlled by a large liberal city.
I also support the possibility of counties breaking away from Illinois and joining other states. They don’t even have to be contiguous to the state that they join.
The fact that Maine was once part of Massachusetts provides historical proof that a given state can have non-contiguous territory. This fact would be helpful to counties not near the state border.
Some opponents to splitting Chicago off from the rest of Illinois argue that the Chicago area sends more tax dollars to the rest of the state than it gets in return. In other words, they argue that Chicago tax dollars subsidize the rest of the state.
Even if it were true that Chicago sends more tax dollars to other parts of the state than it gets in return, that is irrelevant to the argument in favor of splitting the state because it’s still possible for the rest of the state to economically flourish and prosper without Chicago.
I argue that the rest of Illinois would be financially viable without tax dollars from Chicago because it would be operated with fiscal austerity and have pro-business policies.
The current fiscal issues facing the state are the result of financially reckless policies championed by Chicago area state politicians. The pension crisis is the biggest example of this.
The anti-business policies advocated by Chicago area state politicians hurt the rest of the state much more than Chicago.
Businesses might be willing to tolerate unfriendly regulations and taxes in order to operate in a big city like Chicago with a large pool of potential labor and customers, but they don’t want to incur those same policies to operate in small towns and rural areas.
Small towns and rural areas need business friendly policies in order to attract businesses.
There is enough economic activity in the rest of Illinois to survive without Chicago. In particular, Illinois outside of the Chicago area is one of the agricultural powerhouses of the world with tremendous crop and livestock production.
The reason that other regions of Illinois might be subsidized by Chicago area tax dollars is because they are being economically throttled and ravaged by policies set at the state level by Chicago area lawmakers that are designed to benefit the political interests of Chicago.
These Chicago centric state level policies include wasteful government spending, high taxation, extreme corruption, and big government burdens that hinder economic growth.
The Chicago area economy is big enough to withstand these economically harmful policies, but the economy in other regions of the state oftentimes is not.
The other regions of the state could economically flourish if they were given the opportunity to operate under state level policies geared to their own local economies instead of having one size fits all Chicago centric policies imposed on them.
There are plenty of other states that are much better off financially than Illinois that don’t have a big city comparable to Chicago.
I have never understood the people who think that state boundaries should be set in stone and never changed. States have been partitioned in the past as needed, and that is still possible now.
Kentucky was part of Virginia, Maine was part of Massachusetts, West Virginia was part of Virginia, and Vermont was part of New York.
Chicago and the rest of the state are culturally, economically, and politically disparate areas with irreconcilable differences. There is no reason for Chicago to be bound to the rest of the state in perpetuity just because that is the way it is now.
The Declaration of Independence states “When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another.”
It’s time for the rest of Illinois to dissolve the political bands connecting it with Chicago.
