One of the key aspects to noticing a controlled candidate is the speech, cadence and distinct linguistics used during prepared remarks.
When a candidate is authentic in delivery of advocacy points, their speech is a natural flow of thoughts and ideas they create in verbal delivery. However, when a politician is delivering a speech constructed for them, using the thoughts of others, you will notice a cadence constructed around a series of soundbites that are strung together.
Ron DeSantis kicked-off his official Iowa campaign today literally reading prepared remarks that did not come from his own thought processes. When delivering a speech from the thoughts of others, there is an emphasis on the reading of it; in the example we highlight today with DeSantis the reading is extreme. You can see below.
This is not to say that speech writers are not useful, they are. Almost all politicians use speech writers to assist them in putting their thoughts into words to assist communication. The key is to use the candidates’ thoughts. However, when the thoughts themselves are not from the candidate, there is a very different outcome in delivery.
This is what becomes very visible with Ron DeSantis.
As candidates, Dr. Ben Carson and Newt Gingrich wrote most of their speech scripts and delivered their own thoughts on points of policy and advocacy. President Trump also communicates his own thoughts through speeches written from them. When the thoughts are from the candidate, you will notice a tone of authenticity in the delivery. Speeches delivered by people like Tucker Carlson and Jordan Peterson also communicate with authenticity because the thoughts conveyed are their own.
Conversely, in traditional politics there are candidates who do not convey their own thoughts and end up reading speeches that are disjointed with emphasis misplaced, syllables in wrong context, and carrying an odd syntax and cadence. The more disconnected from the thoughts of the reader, the odder the delivery.
The worst examples of reading other people’s thoughts to assist their own communication, come from Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg. Governor Nikki Haley also struggles with this, and to a lesser extent so does Mike Pence and other well-known republicans.
Three of the more noticeable political figures, somewhere in the middle of the extremes was Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush and George ‘Dubya’ Bush. The best orator to transfer the thoughts of others into his own linguistic delivery was probably Barack Obama. One of the reasons for Obama’s success was due to his team all having the same ideological outlooks. Obama delivered convincing words because his thoughts and the thoughts of his speech writers were in synergy.
The bottom line is that when a political operation is poll-testing, highly managed and heavily scripted, there is a noticeable lack of authenticity in the speeches of the candidate. The reason is quite simple; the speeches are assembled from disconnected ‘talking points’ or ‘soundbites’ and then an effort is put toward sequencing them for candidate communication.
Once you notice the issue of reading the ‘thoughts of others‘ it is almost impossible not to see it when you watch the speech being delivered. This issue is very clear today in the remarks from Ron DeSantis in Iowa. Unbeknownst to most casual political observers, DeSantis has always been heavily influenced and managed by others throughout his career. However, now it is starting to become more noticeable.
The venue is a mega-church in Des Moines. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds introduces Ron DeSantis to the church audience, and immediately the Florida governor starts reading the script. Watch how much time he spends literally reading the words. WATCH for a minute and you will see:

Now he ignores Florida as he is chasing the carrot-on-the-stick provided by the Never Trumpers.
DeSantis had a good thing going in Florida, emphasis on HAD.

A prominent speaker comes to town, and he basically reads all of his speech, looking down at the podium. To me, this insults the people gathered to listen to and cheer him. He did not take time to memorize even some chunks, nor did he speak off the cuff. Students in high school Public Speaking class do much better than this. They are famiar with the material, they deliver large swaths without looking down and reading, they engage the audience with their eyes…they have memorized and rehearsed in preparation. They are taught to respect their audience by doing these things.
RDS thinks he can just swoop onto a stage, read some papers, and that is good enough.
Wow, I would feel short-changed and slighted if I was present in that audience.
Regarding this particular dress of Casey’s (not a fan of hers, however) this is more of a “sun dress” — something worn a lot in the South. I plan to wear something made similarly this evening when we go out for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. I couldn’t tell how long it was, but the style right now is somewhere between the knees and the ankles. I agree with your assessment of some of the other dresses she has worn.
Regarding Ron, yes, he struggles with faking sincerity! Bill Clinton was great at that! LOL!

The one thing I noticed is that his delivery method allowed for no applause, he just read rolled right through any “potential” applause. It seemed slapped together and not super cohesive, kinda like a good meatball.
Yeah, I noticed that too — no time for the audience to react. He’s nervous, that’s obvious, and, yeah, pretty snarky to drag Trump into the weather! This event was indoors with what — 100 people at the most? Trump’s rally was outside with thousands and tornadoes in the area.

If you are genuine, you have one-line written down talking points, and you freestyle expound off those talking points.

What a horrible speech on so many levels. Terrible inauthentic delivery as noted of course. A very strange abrupt ending like I have never seen before. Usually the candidate will linger at the podium and bask in the applause for a while. Not Ron. As soon as he finished his remarks he was out of there in a flash and so were the spectators! Never seen anything so fake in politics! The small rent-a-crowd might be the reason why but a weak round of applause would have been better than none.
Also the themes of the speech were lacking. I estimate about 80% of the speech was how DeSantis was going to take on the “woke agenda of the left”. No mention that Americans are struggling under record inflation that will not abate. No mention that America has never been so close to all out nuclear war thanks to Joe Biden’s proxy war with Russia. A war that has put European economies into recession and promises to do the same to the United States soon. I didn’t hear much condemnation of Joe Biden’s record. All I heard is “I’m going to take on the wokeism of the left”.
I suspect the reason we didn’t hear anything substantial on foreign policy is that DeSantis does not want to go on record saying what he will do in the foreign policy arena if he becomes president. He already got “burned” once when Tucker Carlson asked him and other contenders what they were going to do about the Ukraine war. When asked a similar question by Gowdy, what would he do about the Ukraine war on day one DeStantis dodged the question by railing against the “gender ideology” that has infected the military.
Speaking of public speakers who are authentic in delivering their remarks because the idea’s in their speech are their very own I would add RFJ Jr. Take some time to listen Bobby Jr. launch speech and the contrast between his speech and this DeSantis speech is stark! Even with the spasmodic dysphonia that RFK Jr. struggles with he is still a very engaging speaker who makes you sit up and listen!
DeSantis doesn’t have an economic policy to run on, unless he includes tax free holidays for diapers and tampons.

You just reminded me of something i witnessed in the early 90s.
I was at a professional business association meeting in north Atlanta and the then governor, Zell Miller, was announced as the speaker at the last minute.
There was a table reserved for his ‘people’ right in front of the podium. Zell came in and started giving his speech. Most of the attendees seemed unimpressed or not interested, but every time he hit a key segment of his thoughts, this table of his ‘people’ would all stand and start cheering and clapping, which caused most of the rest of the crowd to stand and at least give cursory claps.
Basically, the control/influencer group caused the majority of the rest of the crowd to follow along out of sympathetic niceties, giving the camera a distorted view of others’ support to the real atmosphere of the whole event.
Whole damn thing was scripted and manipulative! Apparently, not much has changed on that.
How can I forget the B Hussein Obamas stepping out to adoring crowds at concert arenas? As if the audience came there to see them and not the rock star?

PDJT speaks from memory, knowledge, rattles off long lists that show mastery of current events and understanding of processes. He delivers it in small sound bites that can be savored, laughed at, enjoyed together. He pays attention to the crowd as he speaks — works them.
PDJT includes current events of the day, and though speaking to crowds of millions, you feel like you are having a personal conversation with him. He gives credit to the wisdom, education, knowledge, and common sense of the audience. He is genuine and real.
His plans make sense, and you can’t scoff at his plans because he delivered for 4 years on what he said he was going to do. Not only did he do what he said he was going to do against more opposition than has ever been faced by a president….

De Santis speech last night was a recitation of clichés
You can always tell when President Trump is reading from the teleprompter; he doesn’t pretend otherwise. But he leaves the script frequently with interjections and observations, and often veers off into long, entertaining riffs. He is a great showman.
DeSantis is good in press conferences, as during the hurricane emergency. But that stump speech was amateur city—though I watched only the minute you recommended.
From DeSantis’s handlers: Since Ron DeSantis only ‘just started’ his potus run, maybe he will improve his style of delivering his stump speech? All his previous speeches on book tours etc. don’t count?
To be honest, there are only two things going for gov. Ron DeSantis: one his relative youth, and second he’s NOT Trump. It is telling the policies and his ‘comeback’ agenda is indistinguishable from president Trump’s, and that is why he ran away from such questions when asked about the different policies between the two.
