Perhaps it’s the Ron DeSantis national pretending 2024 campaign driven by a “book tour.” Perhaps it’s the international travel that distracts a sitting governor from supporting a Republican candidate in the largest geographic metropolitan area in the state. Whatever the reason, the Jacksonville Florida mayoral contest was won by a Democrat, Donna Deegan.
I have warned, against some of the most vitriolic pushback, that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is setting up the state of Florida for some major problems in the future. There are lots of granular points that I can reference, but the bigger picture they create is one that will be very damaging in the future. The class division in Florida, the distance between the haves and have-nots, is growing exponentially.
Lower and middle-income Floridians are being crushed as the ‘Instagram selfie-my-lunch’ crowd, the largest coalition of support for Ron DeSantis, ignores it.
Believe me on this, DeSantis Republicans representing the financially elite and being condescendingly dismissive of the non-elite, is not a path to future Republican electoral victory. From my perspective the backlash is visible. It only takes a few thousand voters staying home in protest to make a difference.
Those same enforcement police, newly empowered with tools against ANTIFA woke protests, will hold those same tools when it’s Joe the plumber protesting his economic status.
JACKSONVILLE – Democrat Donna Deegan won the Jacksonville mayor’s race Tuesday night, a shocking upset that hands Florida Democrats a major shot of energy less than six months after they were trounced in the 2022 midterms and considered left for dead by the national party.
Deegan came into Election Day as the decided underdog against Republican Daniel Davis, who is the head of the city’s Chamber of Commerce and had a significant fundraising advantage. He was endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, but that support was lukewarm. DeSantis did not do events with Davis or put his political muscle behind his candidacy.
With all of the city’s 186 precincts reporting, Deegan had a 52% to 48% advantage over Davis, who was vying to replace current Republican Mayor Lenny Curry, who was term-limited. “Everyone said it could not be done in Jacksonville, Florida,” Deegan said, according to video of her victory speech. “We did it because we brought the people inside.” (read more)
Ron DeSantis has checked-out of his job in Florida. A tiara dreaming Casey DeSantis is measuring the drapes in the White House. The billionaire donors are pumping them both up.
The Florida middle class is being destroyed at the fastest rate in the state’s history. The lower socioeconomic group is looking for snorkel extensions, and the illegal alien workers, who support the lifestyle indulgences of the affluent class, are being targeted for removal.
The class divide in the state has grown more in the past three years than the quarter century that preceded it. Wokeism is not a priority when you are struggling paycheck to paycheck to survive.
Keep in mind, Donald Trump is a major employer in the state. President Trump, a very generous employer to all of his people, can see the struggle and pain on the face of his Trump Inc. employees. This is not some esoteric political issue for those being impacted.

I just don’t buy for a minute that people are purposely voting for democrats with the sky high prices of everything and an invasion of our border . No way that’s happening .
One of the biggest concerns before the 2020 election was illegal immigration and the overwhelming majority of Americans were strongly opposed to it . I just don’t believe people are purposely voting for a democrat that supports Biden’s policies.

This guy says if it’s close, the program will flip the election.
https://rumble.com/v29nbd4-arizona-today-14-feb-2023-mr.-clinton-curtis.html
Yes, being close makes it much easier.
As voting machines were only brought into American elections in a major way, AFTER the Bush v Gore manufactured ‘crises’ its hard to see how he says “since 2000” but since 2004, perhaps.
Actually, we can reliably SEE that it was used in 1988 Mexican Presidential election, and to elect/re-elect Chavez in Venezuela.
The thing is, IF the cheaters can accurately predict what the legitimate margin of victory would be, so that they get the “right” #’s on the weighted vote, the election results look very ‘normal’ and believable.
Its when they underestimate the legitimate vote totals, or margin that they have to STOP THE COUNT, reset the #’s in the algorythm, add electronic votes to get the cheater tally up, and restart the count, and then “backfill” with a large # of paper ballots.
Hillary “lost” because the “Trump effect” on even her “internal polling” underestimated the size of PDJT’s margin, and she did not have the large #’s of paper ballots, pre-positioned and ready to backfill.
Remember the suitcases, white van and postal semi of ballots?
But, there is another problem with using the “algorythm” or “weighted vote” option of the machines.
It was actually the FIRST clue that led to figuring out WHAT they were doing; those wanting to get inside the machines and copy the hardrives so they could analyse the software, knew what to look for, and what they would find, they just needed confirmation.
What they had caught glimpses of, was INTERIM vote totals, that included “fractional” or percentage amounts.
HOW can a candidate get a fractional vote?
1,023,00.75? votes?
Seeing that, was what enabled investigators to “figure it out” as there is really only one explanation.
WEIGHTED voting.
One candidates votes are counted at .75, the other at 1.25.
100 votes each, 1 candidate is counted as 75 votes, the other (winning cheater) at 125 votes.
Add the two together, you get 200 votes, which matches the # of ballots the machine says it successfully scanned.
The problem is, in addition to that described above, occasional INTERIM totals will show totals for a candidate with a fractional or percentage amount,…in the example .25,….50. or .75.
They so wanted to defeat PDJT, that they exposed this system to the kind of scrutiny by a variety of experts, computer experts, statistical analyses experts, etc. that the system HAS been figured out, and publically exposed, and so can not be used again.
Cheating gives the cheater an unfair advantage, but only so long as its not exposed.
Dominion, like the 2000 mules centralised ballot envelope stuffing operation, which provided the ballots to “backfill” can not be used again, and the proof is they were not used in 2022, not even in Maracopa, where it was a MUST steal for them.
Yes, they cheated, and yes it INVOLVED the machines, but they didn’t use the algorythm, nor 2000 mules.
And, we know now HOW they did Maracopa, and how to defeat the 4 different methods they used there.
DO NOT vote in person, on election day. If we had instructed our voters to vote by mail or early in person, KL would be Governor right now, and Hobbs would be in jail.
Accurate polling lets the crooks adjust the tabulating. As an example every 6th vote for R gets changed to D, reset and do it again. Interim vote totals match number of voters and all whole numbers. No matter the volume of R votes D will surely win.
Ok … understand … thank you … was the CIA Hammer&Scorecard used to flip and disappear Trump’s 2020 votes to Biden ?
Does this mean they CANNOT use weighted voting for early votes ?
Innevitable.
The MAGA voters stayed home.
I’m a MAGA and out household voted against her. Unfortunately only 33% voted.
Both were bad candidates because their is corruption from the bottom, and our “club” won’t allow a good candidate to get funding. Even our council who is mostly R probably will go along with whatever this liberal wants. Our last mayor who was republican was corrupt, so I do get it. Why bother? Except then you may very well elect some one a lot worse.
This is the truth. And you are not alone
Now you’re talking.
” I dont need you to get me elected ”
–Ron DeSantis
You are correct. What you are sensing is real. We are experiencing systemic breakdown of our government and total upheaval of our political landscape. Though weve seen it coming for years, the season is finally and fully upon us, happening as Earnest Hemingway once wrote, ” slowly and then all at once.”

here’s one to go with Ron!s outfits
The weirdest pandemic in history simply changed into the weirdest war in history.
That diminutive, raging poofter has style (on a budget)!
Of course, all those corrupt, degenerate pervert fàg “actors”, must have a stylist to care for their Public Image…
All those billions of dollars and the little guy still wears military surplus and tactical wear from sportsmansguide.
So quaint and relatable.
That’s the manifestation of the marketing pros behind the pieces of excreta like him…
Zelensky is such a buffoon.
Bye bye Saucony. You just lost a long time customer….
Holy mackerel! I just shot My Coffee out my nose onto my new laptop..
Reminds me of the old days of California Rinos. The shift is quite apparent. Nothing can stop it unfortunately. The RNC is built upon using failure to generate funding via donations. The losing is purposeful and the end result is the same. It does end eventually though.. but it’s not a win. More of a whimper.
“The RNC is built upon using failure to generate funding via donations.”
Sundance said this, not exact words, but something like the DNC works for idealogy, RNC for $$.
I never really got it. Your sentence that I copied, cleared it up for me. Now I get what Sundance meant.
Thanks.
Yes Sundance did say that.. I live here however and have watched it for decades.. Been pointing it out since the 90s. Sundance is likely older than I am and we do not agree on everything however we are very much siblings in spirit.
You’ve reminded me of when Chelsea Manager Jose’ Morino called Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger … “a specialist in failure”. He said that if he hadn’t won an EPL Title in 8-years … he would have done the honorable thing … and QUIT!
Wenger had no such honor, and neither does the GOPe.
Exactly.. It’s a con and hustle. I used to make analogies from the movie ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ With Woody Harrelson and Westly Snipes but I doubt many remember it. The DNC con’s it’s base with a religious fervor and rhetoric that whips their base just enough to donate but then they too fail to follow through in many cases. It takes the RNC side to seal a DNC victory by non-action or non-prosecution. The RNC con’s it’s base with promises in line with conservative ideology and their failure is usually grander because their base is actually capable of rising up and ruining the con. So they / we, must be broken and discouraged at all cost.. I like to call it kayfabe (aka fake wrestling) because it’s all hot and heavy words about what you’re going to do to the other side when you get in the ring but in the end both sides work for Vince and it’s all a show.
“Instagram selfie my lunch” crowd!
This is the most impressive way of describing a Ron DeSantis voter I can imagine.
DD
That is the best way to describe a ron! Enthusiast, DD. Many of us voted for him with a sick feeling that he would do exactly what he is doing now. I have posted many times prior that I almost voted for every (R) on the ticket then was going to vote for Crist out of spite but chickened out at the last second.

Second question –
was ‘Rona involved ? She moved residency to Florida, correct ? ( tho we KNOW that she has a Condo in D.C. Now ! )
Could be a lot of Floridians are feeling betrayed that Ron is not committed to being there for them for a full term.
Gosh- she’s the i-75 of Florida. Prolly smells like an armpit. Gnarly. I went to UF from 2000-2006, Jacksonville was always a sh;T show.
6 years in Gainesville and you turned out alright.. 😉
😇
Hats off, ladybird! I know folks who did 2 years at Santa Fe and were never the same afterward!
Question: Can the conservatives that live in and recently moved to florida jump ship and if so where will they go ?
It is hard to find ” The RIGHT place”.
Nassau 🛥
My understanding is its long been common for many of those coming to Florida from the north to experience certain shocks and move up to the Carolinas, becoming what is known as “Halfbacks.”
They aren’t conservatives…they are liberals running from socialistic states. They don’t mind red flag laws, more abortion, tax hikes , ever increasing per capita spending, etc.
Which describes the RINOs in our legislature and governors mansion perfectly.
24 years of Republican rule in Florida, a recent super majority, and all we can tap about is Disney and wokeism.
Halfbacks:
The northeast locusts that move to FL. only to find out it actually sucks, leave and move half way back to the Carolinas.
That’s how you end up with a Tillis and a Democrat Governor.
NOT IN SOUTH CAROLINA!!! North Carolina has Tillis..
SC hasn’t had a democrat Governor in MANY years……We do have Lindsey, sorry to say….We have to keep him. No one has run against him but a Democrat.
Floridians don’t suck, it’s the people from everywhere else!
My ancestors were homesteaders in the state of Florida. Remove air conditioning and watch the parasites flee, I say.
I believe the Dem governor of NC stole his first election in his home county of Durham, so I’m sure it was easier to do in 2020 for his second in Charlotte…
Tillis? Always a jerk, and Trump endorsed him and good ole Tillis then barely won and then threw our President Trump under the bus. Yeah, NC is an island of its own.
We have proof once again how distracted and disconnected the Republican elites are from MAGA. Then scratch their heads and think it was somehow Trumps fault that whatever they touch turns to mush. McConnell and Ronna come to mind (and of course DeSantis).
McConnells mind HAS turned to mush, Ronnas always was.
Unfortunately, before the Wall Street buttwipes convinced Ron DeepStatist that he could become president thus allowing them to make billions of dollars, he was a very fine governor. I guess that we are all weak in one way or another.
He was NEVER a very fine Governor !
Just a media created illusion that never did anything of real substance!
But he talked tough to Disney … who are still WINNING
No, he wasn’t.
and remember this is also after big results from from Hurricane Ian…
and that speaks VOLUMES
What kind of voting machines do they use in Jacksonville?
You are today’s winner!
Very good question. I still say that the Election was voter frauded. Is DeSantis going to investigate the Election results?
ES&S, and have been EXPANDING the use of touchscreens. I recently wrote about it here:
https://tomwigand.substack.com/p/backsliding-on-election-integrity
I guess that Meatball should have been attending to Election Fraud rather than Disney. He managed to get the legislature to vote away “Resign To Run” for himself and to vote to hide his travel records. Rather than going after Election Fraud and machine voting, Ron! was busy carving out legislation for himself.
Why would anyone vote R in Florida when the legislature and governor are busy not taking care of stopping Election Fraud?
All those New Yorker’s and probably Californian’s too that have moved into Florida surely had something to do with that switch.
Lately I’ve thought: if we lose the governorship of Florida to a Democrat, Florida will have become a horrible mouse trap. Conservatives from all over the country have been moving here for the last few years.
Only to be gathered together and punished?
Because that’s what will happen if we lose Florida to Democrats. They will become our own personal D.C. prison guards, and — like D.C. prison guards — they will delight in making us suffer.
We need to work together NOT to let that happen.
dang, Jeb is a real sissy boy. A good public flogging would do him justice.
Not in disagreement, our Cost of Living rarely has gone abound the average of the country..until the last three years that is.
But can we get some backup to the claims of middle class disappearing , etc.

Maybe Ron should have been focused on Florida instead of Kentucky.
If I were a resident of Florida and in a world of hurt, I would feel deeply betrayed by this RINO. I felt betrayed by our RINO DeWine with his Covid nonsense. Once betrayed, I feel no sense of loyalty to that person.
Yes, you are right. DeSantis is making an idiot out of himself and Florida. What a disgrace. I feel for you, too. DeWine is
sure a RHINO. He never shows for President Trump’s Rallies and neither does Abbott from Texas. I’m from PA and
look what we have: Shapiro and Lurch Fetterman 🙁
There will be a backlash only if Democrats stop being insane and go back to some semblance of rational policies.
Which is why they won’t.
Its intentional that Dems are the “cautionary tale”.
Lindsey was a little shakey going into 2020.
S. Carolina is painted as Red, so do the Democrats run a candidate pretending to be moderate?
No, they run a FLAMING, EXTREME Leftist, SO THAT R voters won’t be tempted to “stay home” because “if you do, the Dem might win and thats WORSE!”
In Florida, Chris’s job wss to insure RDS won, and won by a large margin, in order to set him up as the Trump lite alternative; variation on a theme.
The look on his face when the reporter reminds him he has no chance of winning a fair election…Priceless
Is he catching flies? What is that?
Reminds me of the ‘pasted on look of ultra surprise’ that Hillary used when the balloons descended
Elections appear to continue to be stolen.
That being said, Desanctimonius’ presidential bid appears to be spiraling down in flames at a rapid rate.
Maybe Ron should concentrate on cleaning up elections in Florida to start a real bid for the presidency.
Ron! could have stopped the mechanisms of stealing elections but chose to focus his energies on topics more near and dear to his heart. RON AND THE REPUBLICAN LEGISLATURE COULD HAVE ADDRESSED ELECTION FRAUD BUT CHOSE NOT TO DO SO.
Yeah, but who’s looking at PT’s apron with the outfit Melania is wearing so well!
Looks like Ron is flipping a meatball hamburger while the other two are serving steak.
…
That is hilarious, and tragic with so much at stake.
It needs to be constantly reinforced, and if THIS is the WAY it has to happen, so BE it;
A DEMOCRAT win, is NOT considered a loss for the RNC/GOPe Republicans.
Read it again, two or three times if necesary.
A true MAGA R candidate win, is a catastrophic LOSS for the RNC/GOPe Republicans.
Read it again, as often as necesary, until the concept fully sinks in.
DO YOU GET IT?
RNC/GOPe Republicans HATE you, they have nothing but CONTEMPT for you, they are “all in” on REPLACING you.
They were fully “on board” with, and facillitated EVERYTHING you think of as “the Biden admin. agenda.
They wanted PDJT out, and Biden in BECAUSE they WANT every 12 y.o. girl in America to have an abortion, before transitioning to a “male”, they want as many illegals pouring in as they can get, etc.
The RNC/GOPe ARE the enemy.
Any questions,…?
Report from the field:
MAGA candidates flip four school board seats in Florence, Lane County, Oregon.
Local engagement is critical.
There was a ‘reason’ for the massive push, 20 years ago as the business side of it inched forward, “progressively”, to let the new and upcoming icons of big business, to “take over” your health care via the Affordable Care Act. Fascism on steroids.
20% of the economy.
Blue, Red, Democrat, Republican, they are all the same, and in bed with one another.
It’s time to stop allowing the division, UNITE FOR FREEDOM; Liberty and PEACE FOR ALL, WORLD WIDE.
Jacksonville is overwhelmingly Black. I don’t know how any Republican can get elected in Duval County.
I thought we abolished slavery.
Okay I admit, I don’t understand the statement, “Note the logo.” What logo? Where? Why note it?
It’s frustrating, like a joke that one doesn’t understand.
You have to click the image to see the “O” in her name… it looks like Obama’s “O”…. Just a coincidence, I’m sure….
Just don’t zoom in on her face. Wow
Well, she did marry “Surfer Dude Tim Said It Would Be Like This” Deegan. Maybe they met at, like, AA or something
Thank You , Steadfast , for the image .. I couldn’t get it either for some reason 😊
Go back to article and open Sundance’s tweet. The “O” in the banner is strangely familiar. Think 3rd term president and the great “unifier”.
Oh. I didn’t see it until I clicked on the link to Twitter. Like a Florida seascape version.
Now that you mention it..
If you click the pic in the tweet, there is a circle that’s half red and half striped… looks like the O in Donna?
“I have warned, against some of the most vitriolic pushback…”
.
Sundance,
When you first began warning us about Ron DeSoros, and enlightened us as to who he really is, I began doing likewise around my circles of influence. The pushback wasn’t just vitriolic, it was outright hostile.
Fortunately, armed with solid data points provided by you along with a sprinkling of my own observations, combined with a cool head that always responded with “just watch and remember what I have shared with you” rather than something different than that, I have managed to open (and change) a lot of minds.
Anger is a reaction to fear and/or sadness. MAGA had very high hopes for DeSantis, and finding him to be part of the Karl Rove GOPe is a very great disappointment.
No matter. We will prevail, if only because God wins and never loses.
As for Ron DeFlake, this loss in Jacksonville in spite of his endorsement for the GOP candidate is simply another data point that he is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
QUOTE:
(CBS) While DeSantis endorsed Davis in late March, he did not physically go campaign for him. (emphasis mine)
But Davis’ loss makes it two DeSantis-endorsed candidates who lost Tuesday, with the other one being Kelly Craft in Kentucky’s Republican gubernatorial primary.
Did not physically go campaign for your party’s candidate in the biggest city in the state, as Governor???
That, sir, is not just inexcusable. That is malpractice.
What a shocking(?) disgrace.
If I did not know any better….and I don’t….I’d say that failing to physically go and campaign in person for his own candidate in the state’s largest city…
…as a Governor less than a year after winning a landslide election…
….was intentionally throwing the race.
🤨
.
Moreover, with this in mind, it begs the question….
Did Disney really outmaneuver DeRino in FL, or was it all just a show to garner MAGA street cred?
Naw, she just cheated better. Whoever tips the machine concierge the best wins biggly.
Who knows what deals the gods n demi-gods are making on Olympus? The only thing that matters is they they have our best interests in mind. This chess game is serious. Maybe Ron’s billionaires gave up Jacksonville to Newsom’s billionaires as a trade for let’s say North Carolina? Kinda like we gave Afghanistan to the Taliban and the CCP for something really good I’m sure. Don’t worry they got it handled.
It would be interesting to see how many democrat voters recently fled from blue cities/states and moved into J’ville…thus not learning anything from the past and so brought their blue votes with them. If that’s the case, there will be more.
I’ve said this before but I truly don’t think this guy cares about winning or putting in the effort necessary to even have a chance at victory. He’s in this for the money first and foremost. He wants to be Paul-Ryan-Rich and he will be.
He will leave the state of Florida to the democrats and he’s totally fine doing that. His political career is completely over (just like Paul Ryan’s was after he took his 30 pieces for sabotaging Trump 2016 to 2018).
Tom Slade was a Duval County powerhouse and as GOP chairman helped build the modern, organized, Florida GOP that has been winning elections ever since he was Chair. He literally built the modern GOP in Florida.
E-Ron allowing the loss of Duval – a GOP stronghold in the state – is an epic fail and would have Chairman Slade rolling over in his grave.
Gotta get back to your day job, Ron!!
“…republicans representing the financially elite and being condescendingly dismissive of the non-elite, is not a path to future republican electoral victory.”
As a Minnesotan living in tyranny under Democrat rule, I wholeheartedly agree.
The scumbag Repugs here were and are too busy kissing one another’s butts to pay attention to anything like, laws, freedoms, rights, etc., etc., etc. Who wants to actually do the right thing when there’s a party going on?
Every Repug in office “representing” the people of Minnesota are Democrats.
Call me crazy, but I am slowly coming to the conclusion that no significant improvement in pretty much any state, political or voting situation can occur until the Main Stream Media is silenced and replaced by real journalists.
do know that this is floating all around lately
Don’t like DeSantis butttttttt
This looks like the way the Globalist Democrats are going to flowing in the campaign.
In Marion County the illegals mucking stalls at all the barns are still showing up for work.
Again … where was the RNC Counter … the GOP Counter … the DeSantis Counter … looks like the RINO Establishment wanted a RAT win !!!
Anyone a Jacksonville resident?
For 16 years now.
I overheard a guy saying today at the salon that a friend of his bought a house two years ago in Florida for around $230,000 and just sold it for $460,000 cash! In two years. Wow.
A guy across the street here in NW Ocala bought his farm, 46 acres, in 2012 for $640k. He probably put $200k into it. He sold it 2 years ago for $1.3 mil. The people who bought it stripped 28 acres off it, and sold the place minus the 28 acres for $1.9 mil last year.
Real estate has been crazy here for the last 3 years, and it’s only let up a bit. It’s people coming in from NJ, NY, CT and VT who are driving up the prices.
She had republicans voting for her because she is well known has been a TV reporter, or some kind of news person Also she does a lot of charity work with some kind of program. Those republicans are NOT going to change over to Democrat.
I have a lot of family in Jacksonville and they love DeSantis as a governor, but they ALSO love TRUMP!
All of them voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020. I really believe Trump will get more of Floridian votes, than DeSantis will.
.
DeRino should of been a leader and got rid of the cheating election machines.
Once the democrats get in you will never get the state back. You can thank selfish/greedy Ron when it happens.

Can anyone tell me how DeSantis did in Jacksonville in the recent governor’s race? Did he win? Convincingly?
I don’t have stats, but pretty sure he won convincingly. But it was a joke because Floridians know a dead man could have beaten Charlie Crist.
DeSantis going after Disney because of their woke ideology is applauded, but using the law to punish because of ideology is the cancel culture and just as bad as what the left does. To use the law as an enforcer of beliefs leads to tyranny. Let the market decide.
I saw a news report recently that said there are close to 2000 special districts in Florida just like Disney’s Reedy Creek. I never knew this.
Unfortunately, so much dark money is pumped into the markets that they can no longer decide.
RNC builds, DNC destroys.
RNC sets em up, DNC knocks em down.
All intentional. Purposeful. All designed to suck up wealth and send it to their next parasite. Everything according to plan.
Except for Donald Trump.
One of the most telling examples of the sheer arrogance and lack of people-connection of Ron DeSantis is a video re-tweeted on Sundance’s Twitter.
A state representative has traveled an hour to be there to meet and see DeSantis. He’s brushed off with “Thanks for doing that” and DeSantis keeps walking because this isn’t a well-known donor or someone of media importance.
“DonnaDeegan@DonnaDeegan
Love won tonight”
Allow me to selfie myself barfing up my lunch.
GOP never organizes well for anything.
In contrast are the Dems. Here’s an example.
Saw a clip of an interview with VP Harris. No-name interviewer, a black woman. She asked a series of questions such as “What color do you like?” “What’s your favorite food?” “Movie?”
The set was beyond sparse. There two simple chairs in front of a blank wall. A tiny little table was set next to the VP on which were a few cookies. In other words, it looked as if the interview had been done in an empty room or garage so amateurish was it.
The woman’s podcast did not draw many people.
HOWEVER, here’s the thing: this interview will be posted on Tik Tok where this woman has a large following of young black girls/woman.
This is but one way Dems are seeing to every single vote for Biden/Harris gets to those polls.
With a huge, still untapped Hispanic vote up for grabs, do you see any attempt by the GOP or even POTUS 45 to find a way into those communities?
Nah.
I’d like to know more about Florida economics and indifference to working and middle-class people. I know in my bones DeSantis is just another Bush presidency in the making.
I have lived in or near Jacksonville my entire life. At one point in my life I was involved in politics in JAX. Someone above mentioned Tom Slade, I knew him.
I caution people not to read too much into Deegan’s victory. There were local dynamics that are not being mentioned, chief among them that Deegan was a local news anchor for 20 to 25 years she was in our living rooms nightly. She had pretty much 100% name recognition.
In addition to that Deegan is local, she grew up here. She is the cousin of a former mayor who was well liked. She did not campaign as a leftist, but more centrist. Her opponent was basically a lifelong politician until he took the helm of the chamber of commerce a few years ago.
Deegan is also a local philanthropist. She’s a 3 time cancer survivor, the city took her journey with her on the nightly news. She formed a local charity that funds research and provides support and services for women with cancer in the Jacksonville area.
The mayor prior to the current mayor Curry was a Democrat. Duval county went blue in 2018 Governor race and 2020 Presidential race. Obama came close to carrying Duval. Like any urban area it has been drifting blue for years while the surrounding counties get deeper red.
Point being, I think there are local factors being overlooked in an effort to proclaim the JAX mayoral race as some harbinger of the future of national politics.
I no longer live in Duval county (Jacksonville), but I live in an adjacent county so I’m still in the greater JAX area.
Thanks.
Mayoral races don’t always have much to do with state politics, but I don’t know anything about FL.
I forgot one other relevant tidbit. In the primary Deegan pulled 40%, Davis 25%. They were the top two so they advanced to yesterday’s race.
Davis had a steeper hill to climb to win. BTW, I don’t mean to imply he couldn’t have won. Clearly some of the R’s stayed home (turnout was 33%) and/or some voted D. I assume the D’s mostly voted D.
If there is a take away for the Presidential race to me it is get the vote out, don’t take Duval for granted. Although, I kind of assumed that was implied after 2018 and 2020.
Indirectly, those local issues seem to be based on “feelings”….? Lots of feel good sympathy points there, (aka the Mrs. in Tally will have those to use to benefit her hubby)….
Well, lets see if there is true centrist in her.
Maybe some sympathy, but I think familiarity is probably a better description. Sort of the sentiment of “Oh look it’s that nice lady from TV, I know her, she’s not crazy”.
There has been sort of a pattern of local TV personalities running for office in this area lately. In fact another former TV personality won the property appraiser for JAX in this same election. This was Deegan’s second attempt at elected office, she previously ran for congress and lost. A couple of other former TV personalities have thrown their hats in the ring in recent years and come up short.
There were definitely feelings involved, but there are always feelings involved in elections. I like this person, I trust this person, I agree with this person, this person feels the same way I do about issue x, y or z. I dislike this person, I don’t trust them, this person is a liar, a crook, he/she is bought and paid for, controlled by X, this person is fringe, crazy, a fascist, a pacifist, a wet noodle, sleazy, too abrasive, this person scares me, etc., etc.
We’ll see how Deegan’s policies shake out, she’ll have a majority republican city council to contend with. Since I live in the area and go into Jacksonville frequently for a variety of reasons, my daughter and son daily…..I hope Deegan is not only centrist, but a successful mayor.
This is a rejection of meatball Ron and the Chamber of Commerce club Republicans. It’s a positive sign for Trump. And it is already showing up in Florida polls where Trump is beating RdS.
