As I am sometimes able to do, today I printed the prayer thread and took it with me. I light what grandma always called ‘my Jesus candle‘, sit still, then walk quietly through each prayer and request with pause and deliberation.
As I generally do, I also add my own prayers targeting a turmoil that is less specific. There is bludgeoning in the world; there is also manipulation, deception and ultimately evil. I do not like it; I am repulsed by it; and like you I choose to oppose it in every way I am able. This is our ultimate zero-sum battle.
The task completed, I also pondered the changes of the past seven months that surround me. The physical landscape where my youth unfolded, forever changed – much of it erased completely. Then suddenly, for some unknown reason, a thought occurred:
If God told me a secret today that I was not permitted to share; a secret that today was my last day and yet I could not reveal that knowledge, what would I do?
There is a particular clarity of life, a clarity to purpose, that seemingly happens when we put a clock on our endeavors.
Generally, we ignore the clock, abiding to life is much easier that way, and, truthfully, I do not believe there is value focusing on something we do not control. However, while we do not control the countdown – we do control every choice we make within it. Thus, the question holds merit, ‘What would I do?‘
If we accept that we can create something, perhaps make it just a little bit better by making a choice, then we have accomplished something; perhaps much bigger than we imagine. It is a fundamental truth in life that if we change the way we look at something, then what we look at changes.
We always have choices.
I have long felt that life is like a series of links in a chain. You might be driving down the road and you hear a song on the radio, or see a picture, and you feel a memory….
Something triggers within you that reminds of a different time and place than where you are right now.
You reflect.
The memories you consider remind you of a totally different time in your life.
Perhaps you lived in a different place. Perhaps you were surrounded by different people. Perhaps a different job or completely different friends. You recognize those memories were constructed like frozen moments in time. They became individual links in the chain in your life.
We never actually realize, in the immediate moment, when one link closes and another link begins. But when we look back, we can clearly see distinct points where things changed, the link closed, and a new link began.
You see, the links are only visible in reflection.
As we reflect, we find parts of the chain in our life where each link closes and connects with the other. A beginning, and an end. At the point where the links are joined, we carry parts of the previous link forward to the next.
For many people those connections are bonded by family, or very strong lifelong relationships. Connections which continue beyond our geographic moments, jobs or temporary acquaintances.
But for everyone, the primary bonding agent brought forward from one link to the next is us, our center, our values and core principles. Our beliefs.
The strength of the steel which comprises the links of our life is forged in the fire of adversity, weakness, challenge, pain, loss, and painful growth. The steel is then cooled with the tears of triumph, hurdles overcome and resolve.
The forging makes the steel stronger and able to withstand the pressures that accompany the additional length. Slowly the chain becomes wiser as it lengthens. Able to reach further, form more significant benefits and become more useful.
Hope replaces fear. Love replaces loneliness. Success replaces adversity. These are successful links began and finished while contributing to the whole.
At times we may manipulate the links with avoidance. We hide from -or choose to avoid- an issue in our effort to begin a new link before the old one was naturally, and spiritually, prepared to be closed.
Eventually, as life continues and the chain lengthens, the weak link can fracture, and we are forced to revisit/repair what we originally chose to avoid.
You see, in life we cannot control the universal laws that guide us. So, if we manipulate circumstances to avoid confronting our own weakness, we cannot fully strengthen our life of links. Eventually, the weakness of our past will impact our future.
So, what principles do we carry from link to link? What core values and beliefs stay with us throughout the journey of our lives? The answers to these questions are what makes us human spiritual beings.
We possess freewill able to make choices about what we do, and how we define our individual humanity; but can we then define ’right’ and ‘wrong’ according to our individual principles? Or are there principles that exceed our influence and definition?
Are there natural laws of right and wrong, good and bad, that cannot be subjected to the determination of man?
These are the bigger questions, perhaps the more important questions; and yet, perhaps the ones we reflect upon the least.
Consider the example of the ‘Law of the farm’ vs. the ‘Law of the School’. Natural principles vs. those made by man.
A student can skip class, take few notes, pay only half attention, then stay up all night cramming for a test and manage a decent grade. It depends on the student’s goal: grades or learning.
The student can choose to manipulate the education, by avoiding the learning and capturing the grade. This is possible in the ‘Law of the School’.
However, a farmer cannot take short cuts. A farmer cannot avoid tending to the soil, preparing the seed, fertilizing and nurturing the crop, and still gain the benefit of an abundant harvest.
The farmer must necessarily do all of the appropriate work in order to benefit from it. Such is the ‘Law of the Farm’, the natural law.
When one considers the weakness remaining within a poorly constructed and manipulated link, perhaps established by selfish choices and driven by avoidance and fear, one can be faithfully assured those who have dealt dishonestly with us will have to visit the issues of their association again.
Conversely, no amount of manipulation or avoidance on our own behalf is going to improve the frailty of any link without first resolving the lack of character which created the weakness.
So, we have choices in our lives. Decisions we each make regarding how we interact and participate in the lives and links of others, as well as how we choose to construct the links that comprise our own lives.
Do we base our sense of purpose around natural principles? Principles based on natural laws of right and wrong, good and bad, truth and lies. Do we forge strong links by following our heart, our values?
If we can interact with others absent of a prideful self-driven agenda, or manipulative intent, we can then apply such principles and strength to our endeavors.
If we protect the integrity of the soil upon which we build the foundation of our lives, we can live without regret.
If we fertilize and cherish our crop, and the crop of our neighbor, with honesty and sincere appreciation for the souls we meet along our chosen path, we will live a life of abundance.
If we tend carefully to the consideration of everyone, yet holding true to our values and principles, we can strengthen ourselves amid the face of adversity and disenchantment.
If we do not hide from, nor ignore our individual and collective faults, we can build the chain of our life with strength, humility, and purpose.
This context returns me to my original thought:
…If God told me a secret today that I was not permitted to share; a secret that today was my last day and yet I could not reveal that knowledge, what would I do?
I realized I would want to SHOUT a message.
I would want each of you to know how much I cherish and appreciate you.
I would want you, the specific and unique person reading this message, to know that you matter in this grand experience of life.
I would want you to know at the essential core and fiber of your being, that you are of great value to those around you; that you have given more than you have taken; that you have deposited far more than you could ever withdraw.
I would want every intersection of my life to know that I am thankful, blessed and overwhelmed with gratitude.
If today was my last day, I would want to send this message with great deliberateness, urgency and love…. And so I have!
Today is not our last day, but I thank our God for this reminder. Act like it might be!
Abiding love to all.
Steadfast,
~ Sundance

Beautiful thoughts…nourishment for the soul and heart.
Wow, that was amazing. Thank you for all you do. And I know I speak for all the lurkers out there. I usually am one of them.
Me too! Thank you Sundance!
Agree and same here
I was literally WOWed out my seat & still wiping tears off my cheeks.
Yes Thank you Sundance.
Today is always my last day. I can only do my very best to be my best and to fulfill God’s plan for me. I only know this because I have not always done so.
My plan was scrapped for His plan and I have never regretted it.
Sorry for the sign in mistake
Lord, keep me in your will. an old song that always strengthens me. thank you, gawntrail.
Part of my beginning when I did prison ministry was sort of to this tune.
I would tell them that I and they are so very blessed today for we were blessed with another day. Not only did we wake up but we are truly blessed for having another day to walk this earth, seeing & hearing all the beauties it has for us.
However, we have to remember tomorrow is not guaranteed for you or those you care about might not have another tomorrow. Remember everyday to make sure those you care about know that you care, & at night when you lay your head down to sleep make sure to make all things right with the Lord.
I have tears and thankfulness for reading Sundance. God bless you and yours.
Profound and powerful.
Peace be with you and blessings abundant.
Stay Steadfast! Thank you for keeping the strong link of hope, faith and love.
Thank you Sundance. God gave us his Son to provide the Grace to save us; the Bible are His teachings and our path to a life lived on His terms. My best day is when He is in my thoughts and with me in all the things I do; menial or meaningful. It took me a long time to realize He wants to share every moment with us. I used to think it was wrong to ask him for little things and to “bother” Him with stuff I could solve myself. I now realize, nothing really matters if He is not a part of it. Along with that goes the trust to let Him lead me; give up the control. Many of Oswald Chambers writings I read here in the Open Thread have helped me. I take heart that even through my failures, he takes me back into his willing and loving arms, and I start anew again. How wonderful and hopeful it makes my life.
If He thought to create us, we should always open the door to invite Him in.
Hi Sundance,
Your words touched my soul. Thank you for all that you do, and for being a ray of sunshine, in a world seemingly growing in darkness. God Bless
Beautifully put Heather. I surely could not have said it better. Sundance is one of the lights from God.
Tears of gratitude and awe.
Sundance, I love you so much!!
Very well stated… encapsulated all that’s necessary to live a productive, enjoyable life..😀👍
🇺🇸💪😀👍
What is Pinky talking about??
Apparently, most posters did not see whatever it was. Our God sure does work in mysterious ways.
Thank you Sundance.
?
Thank you, moderators! You got to him before I could finish my thoughts and lighting ‘him’ UP.
He is such a loser!
Blasphemous to boot!
Apparently, you didn’t see the post as can be evidenced by the time you posted. There was hardly anyone that saw it. You know not what you say!
The rest of your statement(s) is a contradictory word salad.
Go away!
See John 8:44
I thought so and you’ve been caught again, Resifp Horus!
Me as well! That was truly shocking. As I replied to that post: Demons will deceive us as “God” speaking.
Wow….just wow.
He went around them again. He was on here a few days ago. Left his calling card at the end (prior handle). His new handle said volumes also.
See John 8:44
Mounting attacks from multiple fronts lately. Some very subtle. Caught one yesterday morning also, though not as vile.
God bless you Sundance.💜
Thank you Sundance shining light on the spiritual aspect, reason of each person’s life here and now, for each day of life. For all we do and why – with gifts of all sizes, in all forms to use that are of great value to those around us.
That, upon reflection it is never enough though we have given more than we have taken. Perhaps there is always that which we have little need of but have asked for much, we have yet, begun to deposit.
Perhaps, without assuming, you may find this interesting or enjoyable in “Truth, Nature, Beauty and Witness”

Sundance, this was one of the most elegant, and thought provoking inspirational writings I have read in a long time. Bravo! I believe you have touched the core of why we all must know as we look at the horizon at the end of each of our lives.
Sorry about the typo. I mean to say “I believe you have touched the core of WHAT we all must know as we look at the horizon at the end of each of our lives.” I would add, “At 73, I am realizing this truism more and more each day. I discover so many new view points each day about my past, my present and the future. The question is whether we take the time to really reflect on how those ‘links in the chain’ connect, and explain where we are now, and where we should be tracking the changes in the win to reach the ultimate goal, so that we can say a righteous ‘Amen’ to how we lived it. Even looking at the James Webb telescope postings on Youtube takes my breath away as to how much we don’t really know, except for the ultimate truth: It didn’t happen by accident or whimsy!
To what are you referring??
The Bible says a prophet is known by the accuracy of his/her predictions.
Having followed Sundance for six years now…He is rarely wrong. Were he a pawn of censors as you imply …that would NOT be the case.
Demons can disguise themselves as our Lord in order to deceive us. I find it doubtful that “God” told you any such thing.
This reply was in response to a post the Mods have deleted….Thank you for your quick action.
It was shocking.
Mom. As a former ‘victim’ of busting out someone bad:
If the moderators took your comments down and those comments were part of a ‘reply,’ those come down with the original post.
I was told by the long timers when it happened to me to take as a so-called badge of honor.
Well, NOW I want to see it!
Continue to do the next right thing in front of you. That is my goal for today and I hope every day God gives me
Its always a good day to be alive, but if one must, a good day to die
Memento Mori….
The doctors had me buried in December of 2019.
I decide I wasn’t ready and with the help of Dr internet I cured myself.
Nowadays anytime I am greeted with “How ya doinn” my instant reply is “Just another day in paradise” and if they look bemused or sour I tell them any day above dirt is a good one!
Carlos Castenada’s bestselling novels phrased it this way:
“Live with Death as your constant companion.”
I needed this today…Thank you Sundance and God Bless you all!
I appreciate the distinction between the laws of school and farming. Most people are impressed by the educational degree I got, but not my great-uncle, a farmer. When he was 93 – in 1993 – I asked him what nobody knows now that everybody used to know, and he said nobody now knows how to work like farmers all used to.
I find growing potatos to be harder than advanced calculus, and a lot of the reason is that potatos require the discipline of daily care. It’s a long-distance race, while calculus is a sprint.
I know a farmer who went to war, saved at least one soldier’s life, came back home, fortunately, farmed a lot more, got married and had a family, started teaching his skills at the local university upon request, and they gave him a well deserved honorary degree. He was a major landowner in Gilbert, AZ, family still is, and provides dairy milk, uses their animal dung for power, uses gps to farm the fields, since at least the 90s, and has parceled out many subdivisions, with land for churches, schools and parks thrown in free.
They are generational farmers, and there are still quite a few of those in his general area, Thank Goodness!
Many of these people have water now because of these hard working farmers making it possible and sustainable for a century and more.
Make no mistake, that was part of why they stole ranchers lands all over this country. Water rights. Liquid gold.
An astute observation by Sundance on the laws and by you on growing potatoes.
I find myself feeling sorry for those who have never gone through the ‘school of hard knocks’ to be ‘forged in the fire of adversity‘.
Since everything was easy for them they have not been inoculated by hard times and have not developed that inner strength and self-discipline which will be needed ahead.
I believe God spares no one.
My uncle had a reputation for never having hay on the ground when it rained and thus ruining the hay. From cut to bale was a three day process. Early one morning he was having smoke and a coffee on the porch and I asked him which weatherman he watched to be so accurate predicting rain. He said that every morning he would come out on the porch and have a smoke and a coffee. He would study the clouds and their motion and would quietly ask God, “Should I cut hay today?” and God would give a quiet answer. The key he said was to never argue, just do as his spirit had been told. “Why look at the clouds if you are just listening to God?” I asked. He said that it takes more faith to cut hay when it looks like rain and to not cut hay when it looked to be clear, and it was God’s test that he was really listening. He said, “God doesn’t answer if I don’t look.”
There were many lessons for life in that brief exchange.
Personal I have never met a atheist / agnostic / pagan farmer in the USA.
.
There might be some such that farm with other people’s money but they seem a vary rare type.
.
Thank you farmers here in the USA for devoting your land to the Lord, we appreciate you!
There was a saying among farmers in my area:
Don’t complain about farmers with your mouth full!
Were only more Americans to similarly ask such questions with sincerity and faith, and then to silently detect in the depths of their beings the Answers freely given to those who listen intently.
Many lessons indeed! I hope you are passing these things on to the younger generations in your life.
Love this-thank you!
Prayer and reflection is meditation;
one creates a link with God through these means
Being humble, honest, loving, and gracious;
one creates a link with others through these means
And if God has told you a secret, as SD writes,
Through those means you will have salvation
and rise to be with the Father as Christ did.
God bless you Sundance.
I am so grateful to be part of this community – it’s huge link in my chain that reminds me I’m trying to follow God’s path.
Thank you.
God Bless You, Sundance.
I needed those words today. Thank you.
Beautiful message… God bless you Sundance!
Magnificent! The Lord God is with you….
I believe the Lord is raising up 10,000 Nehemiahs around the World to encourage people to pray and restore the crumbling spiritual walls of our neighborhoods, town and cities.
.
Consider as an example, the really bad public school systems of Miami Dade and Broward Counties. Even with the lawless messes that they are, if the students suddenly found the Lord our G-d the tricked out mess would not matter anymore.
.
What if the worst bully / predator of each school in those system came to follow Yeshua ( Jesus ) then the police in the schools would be irrelevant.
.
If just a few people all over our nation will pray and repent of our own miss deeds along with neighbor-hood prayer walks then we would at least be free from the sins that bound us personally.
.
We only have to repair our neighborhood section of spiritual walls and assist a little with neighbors that need help and we will be made whole and made mostly personally safe.
.
That is what me and mine are doing in SW Florida and wherever I travel on my vocation / job.
I do my best praying out in nature – quiet solitude where I feel I can connect with god and my soul.
Having a routine to pray is important for me. Helps me focus and makes the act of prayer more meaningful. I like your routine of lighting a candle. I might give that a try.
I always give thanks for yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Very poignant…Thank you! Tomorrow in Augusta, Maine is a rally at noon to voice our opinions regarding bill LD1619 which our Governor Mills regime has proposed. It is one of the most radical pro abortion bills in the country. Abortion available up until day of birth. For those yet unborn…it is their last day. They have no voice and it is up to us to speak for them. Whether you’re a Mainer or not….if you share pro-life God given rights, please contact our Governor Mills to let her know she is on the wrong side of this issue. Please pray for those of us attending the rally, that we will be protected and kept safe from the antifa types that want to shut us down. God’s will be done. Amen.
Praying for your success tomorrow and for your safety.
Thank you! Much appreciated!!!
AMEN.
I often forget, get overly involved in”my” life. This was a great reminder of what’s important.
May Our Lord Jesus Christ continue to bless you and Menagerie. Your thoughts and meditations from a planters perspective are of tremendous benefit to me.
Thank you.
Powerful and heartfelt, Sundance.
Everything has a starting point. Whichever road you took led us to this destination, apposite and consequential.
In short, without you there wouldn’t be us.
Did Almighty God have this purpose for you? From small beginnings come great achievements, dear sir. Your magnum opus as I see it.
And I for one am extremely grateful.
Just perfect, dear friend….
What a pleasant surprise! Hi Bet. Hope your well. I know you would appreciate that quote from our mutual patron saint. Slainte
I do…I always appreciate any quote from that bless-ed saint. Be well, Colkitto.
When I was younger, I tried so hard to keep up with the Jones’s. My era was how much you earned and what you had. Thankfully, my mid life crisis was realizing that an apple in my hand that I had grown myself, was of far more value than a Ferrari.
My mid life crisis came to an end one quiet evening on the deck with a cigar. My beautiful wife looked at me and told me we didn’t need anything but us. I thank God everyday for His words through her. I am a much better person now that I’ve gone Galt. Lifestyle hasn’t changed much either. I do spend more time with my wife instead of at work and have some quality time in prayer every morning instead of a commute.
Bless all working toward what’s best.
Beautiful and spot on!
We tend to live inside our heads, remembering the past, planning for the future, and missing the moment, the present. Just as Jesus restored the blind man’s sight, realizing this can make us look around at the beauty all around us, and feel the presence of God, i.e., the presents of God. The blue sky, billowing clouds, birds and creatures, flowers and trees– there is so much beauty around us that too often we ignore. As Sundance says, humanity is part of that wonderful experience we call life.
Thank you, Sundance. God bless and keep you.
Same right back atchya, Sundance! Amen!
As a tangent, when my son got his first job as a checker at a grocery store, I told him that he might be the only person his customer talks to that day—whether it be a senior citizen or a young mother—so be sure to converse with them.
Now I am that person who appreciates a hello when you see me at the store or apartment mail center. Thank you.
Thank you, Sundance!
I asked ChatGPT who God was and the answer came back, “Wisdom.” Hmm
Like you just spit out, up there…
Sundance you never disappoint be it addressing our intellect or our spiritual sides. Thank you for words that always has me learning and thinking. Blessings to you always.
Thank you for this wonderful reflection.
Actaully am crying. Tears in my eyes.
God is good.
And he is working through you.
Thats why you are crying!
Rejoice! God is using you for a purpose, RMH!
Every single day.
I imagine myself daily as a grain of sand upon the beach. Irrelevant, and unknown. Yet daily I tend to that beach.
Thank you Sundance. For all you are, and all you do, bless you.
If we do not hide from, nor ignore our individual and collective faults, we can build the chain of our life with strength, humility, and purpose. I like this line. Thank you SD!
Beautifully said. Thank you Sundance and God bless.
Your words will nourish my efforts to nourish others. Selah!
and I thank you for your shout,
our God has given you a great gift,
so I thank you for sharing that gift.
We really already know this could be our last day. There should be no difference in “could be” and “will be” except that we make it different. The way we should live should not change from one to another.
The difference is the word from God. Most of us would take that word and live our final hours as if nothing else mattered except the way we use those hours. And we would do that not because we are anything special, but because God is.
There are others that would get that word and deny to the end that God had told them the truth. And their end would be as empty as their life because they had just lived a life based on thinking that God is not truth.
Thank you, Sundance, for making me think about today at a time in which I was very busy thinking about tomorrow.
I love you too.
