I read that years ago, when Putin 1st came to power he asked to join NATO. We said no. I was always a hawk and remain very anti-communism… but Russia ceased to be the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. In other words… we won the Cold War.
So, WHY did we not do with Russia what we did with Germany and Japan after WWII? There really is/was no legitimate reason to keep Russia an enemy after the fall of the USSR.
And, inexplicably, we/the USA built and empowered the remaining monolithic communist nation– China. WE made China into the monster it is today. Why did we do that?
It was Trump who first questioned WHY does NATO still exist after the fall of Soviet Communism. The USSR was the reason NATO was created and needed. Once the USSR ceased to exist, why did NATO remain?
We should have welcomed Russia into NATO. We need Russia to stop communist China. Instead, this Biden/dem regime has pushed China and Russia together.
Was it because many leftist loved communist Russia and hated that Russia was moving away from communism?
In hindsight, I think so.
We must look at what has occurred over the past 30+ years. We did not help Russia after it threw off communism. Instead, we built-up Communist China to be an even greater danger to us (and the entire west) than the USSR was. The Soviet Union was just a military threat, not an economic one. China is both.
If you stand back and look at the results of what we did, it becomes very clear.
Too many in power in the US govt are marxists/communists.
The argument was that we thought that China would become more Capitalist if we helped to build their economy… but that didn’t happen.
The opposite happened… so WHY did our govt w/all these brilliant minds NOT SEE their policies w/China were failing?
Answer: they did see it. They wanted to empower Chinese communism, which is brutal and inhumane to its citizens. The Chinese people are little more than slaves of the state.
And…. 20 years of war in Afghanistan and we lost. We forfeited and then we empowered the Taliban by arming them w/82 billion in high-tech equipment and planes, tanks, etc., paid for by the American taxpayer. Oyr govt REWARDED the Taliban that conspired with al-Queda to attack us on 9/11. That act by the US govt is overtly treasonous… yet, again, no one is held accountable.
And… logically… the smart decision by the US govt would have been to double-down on Communist China, not help them become so powerful AS a communist/fascist totalitarian nation.
Bleed the CCP dry while they are weak, immediately following our defeat of Soviet Communism.
Once the CCP falls, is overthrown, THEN help them rebuild economically. We should have done the same with Russia. Then our world would be far better than it is now.

I remember finding the “Sinfest” online comics after college, and what interested me was how libertarian the artist was in a sea of communists. The strips actually have a lot of religious philosophy embedded in them, mostly relativism if I recall, playing with perceptions. Over time it morphed into the “can you believe this?” faux surprise sort of humor, taking real life absurdity and shining a little sunlight on it, as good comedy should. Out of the blue, the State Dept said they needed a new bit of documentation. Asled how they could get the documentation, they were told to go to the (closed) Embassy.
The State Dept also contacted the countries where they planned to land and told them not to clear the flight for landing. The delays allowed the Taliban time to arrive at the airport. I think they were eventually able to depart but not with everyone –some panicked and ran as the Taliban arrived and some were detained I believe.
Thousands remain, running from hiding spot to hiding spot. That doesn’t even account for the many Afghanistan people who partnered with and supported the U.S. military and were left behind
The U.S. was sloppy or purposefully evil when rushing to abandon facilities and they left behind a database that is now in the hands of the Taliban — a database of every Afghani person who worked with the U.S. –name, address, biometric data. But Bishop Galen was an exception in the hierarchy, and not the rule.
There were multiple flurries of ‘revenge’ murders in the last few months of the Third Reich. I would expect such a prisoner to have been included, like Bonhoffer was. But it gives his death in the year after the war.
He died on April 9, 1945 at Flossenburg prison. Metaxas writes on p. 529:
“Bonhoeffer’s sentence of death was almost certainly by decree of Hitler himself, as were the death sentences of Oster and Dohnanyi….
“Even Hitler must have known that all was lost for him and for Germany…he was accustomed to diverting exceedingly precious resources of time, personnel, and gasoline for the purposes of his own revenge.

Much of the Lutheran church in Germany in the 30s was so into survival mode that they stopped being the church….Dietrich Bonhoeffer, pastor and theologian, founder of pastors’ seminary, went after them. Challenged the cowards, confronted the co-conspirators, and taught those willing to learn. Germany was heavily Lutheran, and the highest military officers and those on Hitler’s staff were expected to continue their church presence and activity….the Lutheran church provided helpful political cover. No different than today, unfortunately.
Eric Metaxis’ biography – BONHOEFFER – is the best read, with regard to both Bonhoeffer’s life and the history of the times. Very readable and chock full of details, dates, and names.
At a critical point, Bonhoeffer had actually gotten removed to America, and those who loved him were horrified when he insisted on returning to Germany, because he wanted to be standing with the church in the fire, rather than watching from a distance. He was executed in prison just days before the Allies moved into the region where he was held.
And, also note–in the middle of the whole horror, there were at least six German generals who were executed because they came to a point where they could not look away any more, and they began to undercut Hitler’s policies and plans. They paid with their lives.

Yesterday I went to the local outlet of a major national grocery chain to pick up a couple of sale items. I walked around the cavernous store but didn’t spot any hand-baskets, so I asked a clerk, “Did you get rid of the hand-baskets?” She replied, “No, we just don’t have any.” [a local Walmart told me that they are often stolen – I asked, “Then why don’t you put theft sensor tags on them?” – shrugs – W]
I submit this as the perfect summary of how the whole shebang unravels. No, we didn’t dispense with X, we just don’t have any.
In other words, we’d be going to Heck in a hand-basket except we’re out of hand-baskets.
This is not an isolated incident. Here are a few more.
1. Tried to reach an office in the healthcare system. Left four polite messages last week, no response. Called the doctor’s office, the staffer said that office is understaffed. Gee, lucky nobody actually needs any prompt response.
2. Submitted a form via their “secure online system” regarding my IRA at a major US bank. No response for several weeks, so I called the number provided and was eventually connected (after many minutes of jarring music) to a support person who wanted to help but did not know what form I was referring to. In other words, every avenue of communication is a dead-end.
3. Another call to Corporate America connected to a support staffer whose English was so poor I couldn’t make out what she was saying, but beyond that, she clearly had not been trained to do the basic functions of her job. So what to do? You know, of course: hang up, spin the roulette wheel and hope for a more competent staffer.
The lifestyle you ordered is out of stock and we have no idea when the back-order will be filled. But no worries, we’ve got 30 years of history to prove that all we need to do to enjoy 30 more years of Waste Is Growth is play around with various versions of “money,” debt, speculative bubbles and phantom capital.
But really, everything’s FINE (Fragile, Insecure, Nonsensical, Expensive) and it’s all rock-solid for another 30 years. But hey, why be so darned cautious, make that 300 years, we’ve got Perpetual Motion.

Allows home owner identification cards. No longer vote from legal residence. Allows opportunity for motor vehicles to register non citizens. Fox News has lost 5 million households from 5-11 pm on Wednesday night after Tucker was fired. A 27% drop in their total audience. The 8pm Tucker hour has lost almost 2 million households or 57% of their audience. Every show on Fox has lost audience since Tucker’s departure. It should get even worse for Fox as viewers delete Fox from their DVR recording lineup.
I’m kind of disappointed that 73% of their audience is still tuning in. Megan Kelly had some really good insight on her Youtube video at what is likely going on behind the scenes at Fox and what their strategy will be going forward to gaining back audience share.
