I get very stressed when I watch or listen to Fox News in the background, while cooking, cleaning (My husband has it on all day and night; he naps through it all); it causes my tinnitus to get really loud, not a good thing.
I would just mute the TV and put it on closed caption while he snoozes. I was once at a sleepover when the host fell asleep on the couch, with the TV still blaring noisy late shows. At 2am, sleepless, I finally got out of bed and went downstairs to turn it off.
I then hid all the remote controls.
