In the middle of the recovery chaos, and based on numerous requests for an option, we were able to set up and beta test a one-time financial support system providing an alternative to PayPal. However, depending on your browser settings (and ad blocker software) I am also hearing that many people cannot see it. There is a screengrab below showing what I am talking about.
The alternative financial support appears directly below the PayPal link in a yellow box as highlighted. Some have said browser settings can block visibility, and I have also heard it doesn’t show up on some mobile devices. I am not sure what the technical issue might be other than ISP filters (now becoming more problematic) and/or Adblocking software.
Due to my personal requirements for Treehouse user privacy, and my firm stance on not retaining user data lists, the alternative system does not provide a subscriber option. If you use the alternative support function, each time you would want to support CTH you would have to click it and reenter your information. No data is saved.
Financial support through PayPal remains the most efficient and stable way to support CTH. I know they have received a lot of criticism, much of it well placed; however, my own experience with PayPal has been solid. When CTH was deplatformed and under attack from Big Tech (eye of Sauron) to their credit PayPal stood firm and supported CTH in providing their service. They would NOT demonetize us.
While my experience with PayPal seems to run counter to the outcome described by others, the unexpected supportive position from PayPal made a strong impression on me. Again, perhaps unique, not sure why, but my experience with them has been very good. If that ever changed, I would immediately let you know. The data security and convenience of their system is also solid and useful.
Regardless, there are now two options: (1) PayPal and (2) Proprietary. Due to legal caution and the data privacy construct, the Proprietary alternative has a 30-day access lag built in. Meaning if you use that option, in approximately 30 days the funds become accessible, whereas support through the preferred PayPal option is immediate.
March is the month when all the annual fees for licensing, email notification systems, data security, legal retainers and background stuff associated with the building of CTH 2.0 are paid. Thank you to everyone who helps offset these costs and keeps our voice in the fight…

It’s good to have this update, Sundance. We love you guys too and for the same reasons. I’d like to ask everyone who is on this thread to contribute a little money to help things along. You do a lot for us, and so does the Treehouse. Most of us can contribute a few bucks every now and then. That’s what I’m going to do as soon as I finish this post. Paypal wants more information than I’ve ever had to give them before in the past even when using a credit card. It is such a shame that we can’t trust anybody anymore. TPTB have made us all paranoid.
CTH has become an important part of my life and I can’t run the risk of dealing with life without it. Thank you Sundance. Love you, the animals and the humor you and treepers display. Makes me laugh and I don’t do that very often these days.
While throwing caution to the wind, I will go ahead with the donation through paypal with a card because they are coming after all of us anyway. Eventually they will succeed and we can dispense with the worry and the waiting.

For those using the Brave browser, if you let down your Brave shield you will see the nonpaypal option to donate. Afterward, you can then put your shield back up for ad blocking.

I was just going to ask that as well. I will gladly give via check. We have had our credit card and visa numbers stolen several times in the recent past. Very leery now of online shopping or donations.

I’ve asked numerous times for a snail mail because there is something I want to mail to SD, and never get a response. PO Boxes are a hassle and giving out a home address isn’t wise, so what is one to do?

Thirty days is a long time to wait for your money. I’ll suck it up and use PayPal later this month when I’ve worked out the final details of the March budget.

Am using the Brave browser on Linux (Fedora), and that link was blocked with Brave’s “Shields up” setting, but was immediately visible when shields were dropped for the CTH site.
A week or two ago, I was able to contribute with a credit card, not PayPal.
But this new option is much better, IMHO.

Pay pal is a pain. Wasted 10 minutes trying to get their records up to date but to no avail. Used regular credit card even though I hate giving a credit card number online. If you do not have a paypal acct; don’t bother…go straight to credit card.
Just got a receipt from paypal saying my contribution had been made. I used a credit card; NOT PAYPAL. I wrote back that I never used them and they (Paypal) did not respond. I found an ancient account I had on paypal and CANCELED it. I will now have to monitor my credit card to make sure only one contribution was made. I hate these online complications. Next time please give me the option to send a check.
We canceled out paypal acct years ago. They still consider it active. Somehow they found our new email addy @ protonmail.com which is supposed to be bulletproof secure. Obviously it ain’t. Paypal can’t suck enough.

Sundance – I have tried to donate just using a credit card but at the end it always says “save this info and create a paypal account.” I quit Paypal some time ago because somehow they were putting my personal paypal purchases onto a nonprofit I belong to and I could never get anyone at paypal to fix it – they do everything they can to keep from actually providing customer service. The whole experience was a nightmare. If there is another way to donate, please let us know.

The firehouse volume of daily issues tends to overwhelm my remember the many challenges faced by my brethren. I am however grateful to hear that you continue to recover and are nearer to you former life. I’m using Firefox browser. Ad Block + is blocking new donation information. You can turn it off for the CTH site by clicking on the top right corner next to your download arrow jig saw puzzle piece. It will open showing all of your extensions. Go to adblock + and allow all on the CTH site. If you did it right and refresh your page you will see the new Donation yellow option.
ordinary man, did you donate using the new option? I was on the new option to donate, I entered my email but when I dropped down to enter name the email box no longer showed my complete address so I didn’t continue.

I’ve been on Paypal for years and never had an issue. Wasn’t crazy about the things I heard last year but will wait and see. I do not post much these days but do stop in daily for a sanity break. A donation is the least I can do. Thanks much to the treehouse.
