School Choice getting closer to a reality in Texas…..
Texas Senate Bill 8 had a hearing yesterday. The legislation is supported by Gov. Abbott and Lt. General Patrick. Key to it’s passage. Polling shows strong support for school choice.
The Texas bill is actually BETTER than vouchers. It is an Education Savings Account. Per the legislation, each Texas household will get $8,000 per year per student deposited into an Education Savings Account (think Medical Savings Account), and the funds can be used for private schools, tutoring, supplies, and other related education expenses. It is not a “use it or lose it” program. Parents can accumulate the saving dollars and spend according to their needs.
This is a big step forward in the education/cultural wars. Of course, the usual liberal mouthpieces oppose the legislation, including the NAACP – National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

The thought of anchor babies having $8k a year in an account their illegal parents manage doesn’t sit well with me. I’d rather everyone take responsibility for their kids education the same way we do food, clothing, home.

It is a start but it is flawed. No money for homeschooled kids, money coming out of general funds instead of the money already collected for schools. Parents who are already have kids in private schools wouldn’t get the money

As a former homeschooling parent, and current homeschool supporter, I’m not comfortable taking $$$ from any govt entity, because sooner or later, there are strings that get attached.
Homeschooling isn’t expensive. You already have the infrastructure, so all that is needed is the curriculum. That can be easily accessed from the internet or local library. Many times local home school groups hold book fairs to sell the curriculum that they don’t need anymore.
I pray that more parents decide to homeschool their children. The govt schools have failed, and need to be put out of business.
They are still taking your tax dollars to support their system. Do you get a rebate on your property taxes because you homeschooled?
Then as you know, the real issue with funding is ; are parents willing to live with a single income, so that one parent can devote themselves to homeschooling, as it is generally a full time job.
Some few ARE, and very few may have an occupation they can do while homeschooling, but to get the kind of #’s we need pulling out of the public schools to collapse the system, I think many will not choose to live as a single wage earner family.
I do agree with your concerns regarding Federal funds; it’s how we got into this mess, and once they have any entity, ; individual, municipality, State or country addicted, they can then impose conditions.
Home Schooling is a move away from dependency on a hopelessly corrupt system, and a move towards self-sufficiency.
ALL of our Institutions are hopelessly corrupted, and problem solvers that suggest ways to “fix” such systems are, I think, just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
The ship is going down, get your life jacket on, and get in the lifeboat, and stop trying to put a patch on it, or argue about changing the menu.

I thought I saw,something yesterday that McConnell told Trump that he would have him impeached and removed from office if Trump fired Fauci or pardoned Assange. Just a rumor, but now that we know about the decades of effort the DOD and TPTB put into developing the bioweapon jabs, all run through Fauci, it is a very believable rumor.
The reality is President Trump was the People’s president but not the president of the usurping and operating actual government. In most areas he had no power of the office.
He got great things done because he did so in areas they were not prepared for and/or lacked knowledge in. Often he succeeded by being one step ahead of them and outsmarting them.
He usurped the usurpers in the economics areas, which if had had four more years would have toppled the operating government.
Trump was between a rock and a hard place. The MSM adopted the narrative early on that we “must listen to the experts”. They anointed Fauci as that expert with Pence head of the response team. I don’t remember one state leader, including DeSantis, who stood up in the beginning and said we are not buying what Fauci is selling. No one in Congress stood up with Trump when he didn’t want to shut down the whole United States economy either. President Trump was even called racist for stopping travel from China. There was not one idea that Trump came up with that was not challenged by Pelosi and her gang, including the media. They made sure to come out with unreliable studies that alternative treatments didn’t help too.
If people really thought about it Trump pushed out the responsibility to the state governments based on their specific needs. He provided the equipment and resources they requested based on what the medical community believed was necessary. Trump did not decide on or recommend the specific medical strategy for each state.
He helped expedite getting things that the states requested including ventilators, Covid testers, hospital supplies, recommended drugs, etc. He even fast tracked hospital ships to NY and California, which were not used. I think he probably felt that the federal government was to provide the resources needed by each state and not make the decision for them.
When he just mention that early treatment using hydroxychoroquine has shown some success and could be a game changer, he was crucified by the medical community and media. Governors and medical boards threatened Dr.s and pharmacists for prescribing early treatment repurposed drugs, not Trump.
He was criticized for not taking wearing a mask seriously or even the whole pandemic.
The 14 day shut down was sold initially not to protect us from each other, but the hospitals were being overloaded and it was to slow the spread, not stop it.
So it’s easy to Monday Morning QB, but people were reported to be dying in the tens of thousands and potentially going to the tens of millions. If Trump would have taken over and done what he probably wanted to do, I think he would have been impeached and removed from office. The task force of medical experts, WHO, other countries response drove the world wide hysteria and strategies and basically our governors drove their states implementation.
No matter what he did he was wrong and responsible according to the Trump haters.
I was so naive in the beginning. For a short minute, I actually thought the state governments were trying to preserve the supply of hydroxychloroquine for those who needed it for rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. I woke up and saw their true intentions.

When it was extended (and extended!), President Trump threatened executive action against the states if they shut down. For Trump to have then sued the states in a matter that he had no expertise in as Fauci and Birx were deliberately stringing him along, would have sunk his 2020 bid for reelection. Remember, Trump actually won in a landslide! Likely his 74M votes would have been well under 70M.
I, like many others, had to battle my way through the comments here at CTH as I tried to lay out the enormity of a blunder that would allow us to fall into a trap designed by the sordid communists and anti-capitalists to paralyze world economies. Sundance was also going against the grain very early on with some very provocative visuals about a dystopic, covid America. But, in the main, most readers here were in agreement with the effort to Slow the Stupid Spread (SSS?).
A presumptuous Dr. Donald Trump would not only have had to face down the entire world by going against received medical advice, with potentially the blood of millions of innocent victims on his hands, but he would also have had to go against his own rabid supporters here at CTH, a base of voters that were supposed to reelect him.
Also, at the time of the initial grapplings with covid, PDJT shut down travel with China, and then put Pence in charge of the task force, as he was dealing with the impeachment nonsense. PDJT stepped in at that point, trying to calm the nation from endless doom warnings, give some real executive leadership, and sort out the mess that covid had become. When he tried to give voice to Zelenko and a French doctor’s HCQ/Zinc protocol before there was a vaccine, he was shouted down, and accused falsely of trying to kill people with injecting bleach or aquarium cleaner. Trump was getting too close to shutting down the globalist vaccine gravy train.
Interestingly, Dr. Oz was also an early proponent of HCQ/Zinc, and used his show to demonstrate its efficacy, and his own money to try to promote it as a treatment to the govt. Someone must have gotten to him, because suddenly, he backed down and offered retractions and apologies. Again, someone threatening the need for a leaky covid vaccine with a cheap, efficient, safe treatment. But I wondered if there were some bond that may have happened back then between Oz and Trump that encouraged him endorse Oz for Senate.

In Ozark Missouri, we were never locked down, businesses never shut down unless by choice. For us it was pretty much business as usual
Yup, and to this day my wife and I go out of our way to support the businesses that stayed open and didn’t require masks. Some of the restaurants were really brave and we very much appreciated them standing up to our town’s bullies. Others, well, they closed down, and when they opened up required masks for well over a year. One of them was a favorite of ours. Guess how many times we’ve been there since? Oh, it doesn’t help that they virtue signaled like crazy for BLM. Thank goodness for golf, because despite them doing some token things like “sanitizing” golf carts with bleach and not letting you pull the pins out, it was business as usual. Still, there were people riding around in a cart by themselves wearing a mask.

Same with us. I do believe in putting my money where my mouth is. And sadly, there are some businesses I was rather fond of that I will never return to.
The lockdown in many places was mostly self-inflicted. I lived in VA under a disgusting Democrat governor and was not locked down for long or in most circumstances. VA locked down everything but certain stores for like a month but craft stores, hardware stores, box stores, drug stores, grocery stores, convenience stores, etc. were open.
As I said this was for about a month. Indoor entertainment was closed for a month or so and then they made their own decisions – I believe my local Regal shut-down for almost a year which was insane. Meanwhile the arcades and bowling alleys and restaurants were open.
Amusement parks were opened by June that year and again Bush Gardens chose to open and Kings Dominion chose to stay closed. The mall was also open by April or May.
All schools were forced closed for the last 2 months of the 2020 school year; however private schools were completely reopened at the start of the next school year if they chose and public schools opened or closed on their local school boards say so – meaning many sane areas were open while Northern VA locked their schools down for a year – and most of the locals in those Democrat districts wanted that.
Even nursing homes and rehab facilities allowed visitors by June/July 2020.
Churches were locked down the longest – wonder why?
This was all under a Democrat government. I think this idea of long-term lockdown was part of the scam. Yes NY and CA were locked down but geographically most of America was open within a couple of months or never closed at all.
Nursing homes in Florida were locked down much longer than the rest of the state.
The plandemic response demonstrated, without a doubt, who was trapped inside The Matrix and who wasn’t. Even in commie NY there were many people, including the Hasidic Jewish community, who ignored the fascists.

In a state that contradicts federal control of borders with sanctuary for illegal aliens, the state also abuses the so-called police power to control contagious disease. There have been some rulings that the state level of government should respond to an epidemic, but it is a thin basis to give expanding dictorial powers to governors and health boards. Where is the federal pushback against states abusing their citizens’ rights under emergency powers? California even claims the power to lock up your doctor for wrong think. I would have expected the DoJ (don’t laugh) to limit unconstitutional acts claimed as policing power.

So, someone in Trump’s staff, sent Tucker something about dead voters who had voted. Tucker put the information on air and people started calling Fox and saying, “No, I’m alive.” He was furious because it made Tucker a liar. He said that actually he likes Trump and likes his policies. But at that moment he was really mad at him and used bad language as he often does in real life (though his wife is trying to improve him).

I feel like I just saw a public display of euthanasia or a sniff film. I know there were a lot of us who was at least neutral on the “vax” around the time this happened. “When Tucker expressed his desire to interview Putin three years later, I volunteered to put him in contact with Ryabkov by email so they could discuss his plan to visit Russia. I expected to write a basic introductory email, receive a standard “thank you” from both parties, and let Tucker’s team manage communication from there.
Both Tucker and Ryabkov replied to my initial message within hours. Yet their digital exchange took an inexplicable turn.
On the evening of April 16, 2021, I sent a brief email introducing Ryabkov to Tucker. Tucker responded within minutes, informing Ryabkov that he planned to record shows in Russia in the summer of that year. Just over five hours later, Ryabkov replied that he would be happy to talk with Tucker and proposed time slots for a phone call the following week.
I assumed my role was done. Yet on April 20, I received a follow-up email from Ryabkov.
“Strangely, I can not send my message of interest to talk to Mr.Carlson directly to him. I tried it twice with no success,” the diplomat informed me, before asking me to relay his message.
At the time, I did not think much of the issue. I thought that perhaps Tucker’s email service, which was different than mine, had sent the note to spam, or that I had mistyped an email address. In retrospect, however, I should have been suspicious. Both Tucker and Ryabkov had received and replied to my initial message, meaning their respective addresses were typed correctly in the thread. And Ryabkov’s email to Tucker wasn’t going to spam – it was failing to deliver altogether.
The digital communication error between Ryabkov and Tucker was not a one-off event. Weeks later, on May 25, I received a message from Ryabkov’s team explaining that Tucker had failed to reply to a yet another email. They kindly requested I ask Tucker if he had received their message. Once again, he had not.
Roughly one month later, Tucker informed me that a source inside the NSA had contacted him to warn that the US government had caught wind of his effort to interview Putin by spying on his electronic communications. Tucker went public with the story on June 28. No. in NYC Bragg intended to get his Grand Jury indictment from jurors likely happy to gain street cred fo it. Only Costello’s integrity to push his way forward with massive documentation slowed down what imo would have been an indictment, followed by a majorily biased trial jury and judge.

I expect that The Congress of the United States has the sovereign right to be immediately served with anything that they demand – without “redaction.” Any part of which might be something that “in their judgment, requires secrecy.” (U.S. Const., Article I, Section 5.3)

So lets summarize “Top Guv”‘s actual record:
He has refused to take the correct position on THE most important issues, bar none, instead brushing it off as “political circus” — our constitution and the most basic precepts on which our country was founded:
The abuse of power by prosecutors for 8 years now, including Fat Al (of a number of leftists who campaigned on finding “something” for which to indict Trump, not to mention the disparate treatment based on political persuasion), the desecration of the rule of law, the destruction of equality under the law, the unprecedented entrapment and lockup, including without trial, of J6 protesters, the bullshit search of Mar-a-Lago, the actual election fraud, and now the new recent concocted presidential election interference, the threatened arrest of a former president who has done nothing illegal (especially in light of our history of ignoring multiple former and current presidents’ huge crimes) but has been hounded and harassed relentlessly for years.
DeSantis has claimed that he’s focusing on more important things. He’s not. He has turned into the epitome of speak loudly and carry a wet noodle.
While DeSantis has been hailed the best governor in the U.S. right now (low bar), his record as a Congresser is mediocre at best, having voted right in line with the DC insiders, e.g. TPP., as is his actual record as governor.
In Florida, he is lucky to have a Republican supermajority legislature. But it’s still not doing what it could be doing. While the legislature touts go-nowhere social issues (wedge issues), medical, auto, and property insurance rates, utility rates, housing prices, and other economic issues have been veering out of control. It’s great that in Florida you won’t be charged for “accidentally” running over Antifa rioters blocking the streets, but what else?
Yay, DeSantis canned a Soros prosecutor. In this, he actually merely did his job. Apparently that’s now so rare that it’s reason for excitement. What else?
During the covid plandemic, he closed beaches and businesses, allowed local governments to implement nonsense rules, and even tried to close the Florida-Georgia border. He failed to require pharmacies to fill prescriptions for ivermectin et al., instead making big noise about remdesivir and monoclonal antibodies, and went along with those incentivizing bonuses to hospitals for finding covid.
Okay, he was a little ahead of (most) other governors in stopping the covidian abuses… right about the time he had meetings with the establishment crowd who told him that all stops would be pulled out to get rid of Trump, and handlers advised him to imitate Trump mannerisms and talk “acceptable” Trump policies. He even changed the pronunciation of his name from DEE SANtis (Italian) to DuhSANtis (likely because the low-info might think that’s “Hispanic”.)
His loud pronouncements about CRT and DEI in the schools and universities mostly have failed so far in the courts because the legislation is badly drafted.
His big to-do against Disney has backtracked almost to the point at which the only real change is in the name of the special district. So much for negotiation skills. (Or was it all intended to be merely smoke.)
His concocted immigration stunt to Martha’s Vineyard generated lots of publicity, as intended, but no followup.
(By the way, Florida’s Lt. Gov appears to lean pro-illegal immigration, e.g. getting them in-state college tuition, and her other big touted legislative achievement was pushing for a permanent daylight savings time.)
Yes, DeSantis (and/or his administration) did do a credible job after the last hurricane, but again — isn’t that just doing his job?
Meanwhile, he has not cleaned up the dirty voter rolls, and Florida still has Dominion and Dominion-created systems in almost every county. Isn’t this important?
DeSantis’s primary support and PR has been coming from DC, out-of-state PACs, the Bush machine, the Romney crowd, and GOPe never-Trumpers. Also from places that have really and truly shitty governors. (Such a low bar.) At the same time, he is spending taxpayer money (because “not in a campaign”) flying here and there “not campaigning”, including promoting his pre-campaign de rigueur ghost-written book (money funneling, bribery).
That otherwise supportive Florida legislature, however, still has yet to change the law to permit him to campaign for president unless he resigns his governorship first (so the “not campaigning” is actually dereliction of duties and arguably illegal.) Perhaps this is in part because he lied when he ran for governor about remaining governor.
What about qualifications to be the president?
DeSantis has absolutely no background or credentials in business or economics, or international affairs. I’m waiting for the never-Trump cabals to start putting out propaganda about “military service” and implying that this somehow substitutes. It does not. While my own kids have seen combat, DeSantis’s military service as a JAG is more akin to doing things equivalent to that of a paralegal or new associate in a law firm (“Hey, SGT, you had better put autopay on your USAA account for this child support order you’re behind on or you will get written up.”) In fact, DeSantis asserted his complete ignorance of negotiations and law in his recent statement that he doesn’t know anything about paying off a porn star (lawyers deal with settlements of claims including nuisance claims routinely.)
The man is not qualified to be president. He cannot hold a candle to Trump. Those who have been misled by the media propaganda really need to reassess.

Other Republican Governors did MUCH BETTER than Ron and, because I allowed them this “freedom,” never closed their States…

In Education, Florida ranks among the worst in the Country and on crime statistics, Florida ranked Third Worst in Murder, Third Worst in Rape, and Third Worst in Aggravated Assault. For 2022, Jacksonville was ranked as one of the Top 25 Major Crime Cities in the Country, with Tampa and Orlando not doing much better…
…On Education, Florida ranks #39 in Health & Safety in the Country, #50 in Affordability, and #30 in Education & Childcare, HARDLY GREATNESS THERE! The fact is, Ron is an average Governor, but the best by far in the Country in one category, Public Relations, where he easily ranks Number One—But it is all a Mirage, just look at the facts and figures, they don’t lie—And we don’t want Ron as our President!
