There was a path with contested electors to earn the election on a state level. Trump would have been elected in congress by a majority of state delegations. The GOPe leaders called for the locking up of anyone who “participated” in Jan6th. They will likewise undermine the next election unless they have been completely shackled. How do you propose we do that? I believe there is no way to stop them from pulling out the blades at the last moment.
A new party is the only way to protect the election after the election is won. Remember, it was impossible for a non-politician to win the White House as well.

Realistically, PDJT can not leave the Republican party, and start his own America First Party.
There are too many challenges, in terms of organising 50 State party organisations, capable of doing all of the real work of a political party; finding and vetting candidates for every elected office, and forming campaigns to get them elected, massive voter registration drives, to get the party “membership”, getting candidates including PDJT on the ballot in all 50States, etc.
However, the RNC is in a similar predicament;
As much as they don’t want him to be on the ballot in 2024, as the Republican nominee, they can not just blatantly and publically deny him the endorsement to run as a Republican.
They can not just change the rules, or even ignore their own rules, either.
Oh, they COULD do these things, but if they overtly and publically “kick him out”,..THEN they “free” him to start his own party, and take not only his base, but probably many State Republican party organisations, and many donors, WITH him.
And, they UNDERSTAND this, quite well. Hence, they are in an impossible situation, with no way out.
I agree it would be very hard but I like the idea that if the Republican Party were to kick Trump out he then would work toward getting a viable third party going. However, why kick Trump out when the Republicans are as corrupt as the Democrats in stealing votes or allowing votes to be stolen?

When I think about how we in our various households (family and friends) would walk by the tv in the family room and turn it on to the Fox News Channel and then head on over to the kitchen to turn on the coffeemaker . . . and then it would be on all day long and into the evening, sometimes on mute as we went about doing other things but you could see the “breaking news alerts” and be sure to not miss anything. We might change channels to see what the other “news” stations were airing – also went to various movie channels (mostly TCM) – but then always back to Fox News. Then the tv – and Fox News – was turned off when we went to bed.

I don’t know why our Founding Fathers did not impose term limits for congressional members; but hindsight is foresight, I guess.
Congressional posts were originally volunteer positions and, after serving their term, were expected to return to their civilian jobs. They were never intended to be careers. Career politicians are the downfall, as they have no idea how their constituents live and, therefore, cannot possibly represent them adequately.

I share your frustration. It boggles my mind how often Republicans can lose, then say “wait until next time. It’ll be a red “wave”, “tsunami” etc. It happened in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and will happen in 2024 in all likelihood. They tell us to focus on the primaries. We did: Bolduc, Blake Tshibaka, Judge Roy Moore to name a few. And if they win, the GOP Establishment Repubs join the Democrats to make sure the Establishment stays in power.

I lived up in Canada for two years back in the 1980’s. Maybe you should start worrying about your insistence on the British Parliamentary system. But I will say that every real issue is yin and yang. One Party backs Yin and the other Party backs Yang. The people decide the issue at the ballot box, at least until 2008, when we elected our first Communist to be our President.
