At least Republicans should have something to offer Americans concerned about student loan debt. Not a freebie but actually reign in these universities which all seem to have huge endowments btw.

GOVERNMENT subsidies ALWAYS RAISE PRICES!! When the government “helps” pay for something then prices go up. WHY?? Let’s say college would normally cost $20,000/yr if there was no government involvement.
Now, let’s say the government takes over the Student Loan Industry (it used to be banks). Government will give money to anyone and everyone. They also do not care if the student pays the loan back. What could go wrong?? Now, everyone gets to go to college even though they are not academically inclined (ie, DEMAND for college goes up). Everyone gets to go to college!! Demand goes up. Price for college goes up. Colleges love the money. Government loves in interest payment on the “loans” and do not care if they are paid off (purchasing VOTES).
Money through student loans is funneled to universities who teach anti-American propaganda, non-academic Majors for students who are not academics, and “student loans” are offered as incentives to entice more people to go to college. It becomes a money making scam.
Now that government is “helping” to pay for higher ed, the price goes up. Instead of $20,000 the price is $50,000 because “free money” increases demand for a product.
If banks were in charge of student loans (as they once were) then people would treat it as a serious proposition. Both the bank and the student would evaluate the amount that the student should get. The student would understand the seriousness of the loan and choose a college accordingly. Demand would go down. The price of tuition/room/board would go down.
Plus, we have become a nation full of debtors. Everyone wants the best and they want it now as long as they can afford the payments. That mentality has made many financially ignorant people have $250,000 in student loan debt for a “career” that pays $35,000 a year. We did not used to be that kind of country.
For years now, borrowers with an inability to pay school loans have been put on “Income Based Repayment” plans that often yield a “payment” amount of zero. And even those “payments” count towards a 20 or 30-year forgiveness of whatever balance remains at that time. Biden’s getting pushback for something that’s really already, in effect, a done deal. Just like everything else in life, the honest people who work hard and pay their debts and taxes, well, they get screwed. The true lunacy is that there’s no slowing down in giving out large, high-interest-rate loans to young people, regardless of the silly major’s they pursue, regardless of the unlikelihood that the loans will ever be paid off. And don’t hold your breath waiting for colleges to lower tuition to help address the situation; the whole education cabal needs to be upended.
These loans have allowed colleges to rampantly jack up the price. Which of course jacks up the debt needed to get a degree.
They are the greediest bastards, enslaving their attendees to a life of indebtedness.
A degree from the “right” school still opens doors too. The bright kid who did two years at community college, and two years at state college (and those have gone way up in price too) does not have the prestigious “name” on his resume, and that resume gets sorted by a computer before any human looks at it.
I know people dilgently paying back their loans, getting no break, never asking for one, and they took the courses that not only the entirety of the MSM claimed would lead to lucrative employment, but they saw with their own eyes others who went that route make out very well.
There are a great many factors contributing to the problem, it isn’t as simple as they took the wrong courses.

Having said that, hrt, I agree with your statement, the whole thing needs to be cleaned up. I’m just pointing out that there are many Americans with a serious problem, who didn’t do anything “wrong” and aren’t deadbeats either.
Taking 6 years to obtain a 4 year bachelors degree is driving your education’s cost up through the roof, especially if you live on campus. What percentage of college students have to pay for a semester or two taking remedial courses covering what they should have learned in high school for free? Taking 12 credit hours per semester so you can be considered full time instead of 15 credit hours so you can graduate in 4 years is common nowadays. Add in NOT working during the summers and paying to eat in the school’s cafeteria and living on campus instead of with your parents. Now, the taxpayers are supposed to foot this bill?
The Missus had a friend who had a small student loan. As far as we know it’s been over 50 years and she still hasn’t paid it off. So it’s a scam on the taxpayers.
Take away the government sponsored loans and watch the colleges and universities slowly bleed to death.
I agree tuition is crazy-expensive, but there’s more to this. My daughter & friends graduated a couple years ago. I would estimate that of the group I know, 75% used loans so they could live lifestyles way beyond their means. Housing, cars and trips much nicer than their parents have! And never a concern about signing up for yet another loan. They were all constantly solicited to borrow more.
When I was getting my bachelors degree (1980s) I lived in a one room basement apartment and cooked on a hot plate. Worked part time through the school year and full time in summers. No trips, old beater car, etc. Most kids now days refuse to make any sacrifices.
I have NO interest in paying for their extravagant lifestyles!!

Uh…, I paid into SS during my 25 years and SS is a mandated part of my retirement. I didn’t pay SS while in military but had to pay it all back to count my military years with government service. My job had a mandatory retirement age of 57. If I work, the Government takes one dollar for every two dollars I make over the threshold. It amounts to minimum wage. I get penalized for working.
I will agree the government is way over bloated but demonizing and painting all government employees with a broad-brush is ridiculous. Stop throwing rocks inside the foxhole.

There is one brand of parmesan cheese that I will buy that does not contain cellulose, but it is not just parmesan cheese. Look at all grated cheeses. They either contain cellulose or potato starch. I buy block cheese and grate it.
To me the most disgusting food additive is “mechanically separated chicken” which is in a lot of hot dogs and sausages, even brands that one used to be able to trust to have good products. Read labels for product ingredients and look for the country of origin. For a while Walmart was selling canned mushrooms from China……….uh, no way.

A family member suggested that I had started “ grazing “ and consuming “ pop”
as is a custom with a significant number of North Americans.
Changing back to 2 meals and a snack per day, almost entirely eliminating pop.
Did the trick.. and a month or two later I was back to normal.

Am I the only one that noticed that until recently there were NO warnings on all the Thousands of COVID vax commercials they kept showing on TV. The commercials just kept talking about how one was not only saving their co-workers, friends and even family members by getting the COVID shot.
Strange but all the other ads for pharma prescribed meds & even most of the over the counter drug ads spend about 25% to 30% of the commercial talking about the various side effects, even possibility of death.
Just as I was ready to mute the commercial I heard the COVID Vax commercial start warning about the various side effects. Hmmm I wonder what has changed.

First, SAR-COV-2 does not equal COVID-19. You can not TEST for COVID-19. COVID-19 is a diagnosis given when multiple (cold) symptoms are present.
Second, while a vaccinated person testing positive for the virus might make them realize that the vaccine doesnt prevent them from catching the virus, I wonder if it will ever dawn on them that maybe it was a false positive?
I have been screaming about the inability of the PCR process to determine illness in a person for years, and continue to be dismayed how few people realize it.
