I did not have internet access for most of today, another long-term recovery issue. However, now that I am seeing the footage of the earthquake in Southern Turkey and Northern Syria, my prayers are for all of those in the region. The devastation is just incredible.
According to the Associated Press, 5,600 buildings have collapsed and several of them came down today during aftershocks amid search and rescue operations. The current recorded death toll is over 4,300 people, with the World Health Organization (WHO) predicting the total loss of life could exceed 20,000. This is just horrific.
The estimated 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit over an area of several major population centers. The Guardian reports, “the population of the ten provinces in southern Turkey affected by the earthquakes are home to 13.5 million people. So far, according to the Andalou agency, more than 5,600 buildings have collapsed.
It is just after 6am in Turkey, and we’re seeing stories of people rescued after a very long day and night, which means they survived not only the rubble’s collapse but the cold. There are many, many more who have not yet been found, with the WHO predicting the death toll could reach 20,000 in the coming days. For now, here are videos of a three-year-old toddler and a woman who were freed from collapsed buildings by rescuers.” (link)
(Via Reuters) […] The magnitude 7.8 quake brought down whole apartment blocks in Turkish cities and piled more devastation on millions of Syrians displaced by years of war. It struck before sunrise in harsh weather and was followed in the early afternoon by another large quake.
In Diyarbakir in southeast Turkey, a woman speaking next to the wreckage of the seven-storey block where she lived said: “We were shaken like a cradle. There were nine of us at home. Two sons of mine are still in the rubble, I’m waiting for them.”
She was nursing a broken arm and had injuries to her face.
“It was like the apocalypse,” said Abdul Salam al-Mahmoud, a Syrian in the northern town of Atareb. “It’s bitterly cold and there’s heavy rain, and people need saving.” (more)
All-powerful Father, as we see all of the destruction caused by this natural disaster, we mourn for all that has been lost and the fragility of this life.
Lord God of mercy, please comfort those who have lost somebody they love, and those who are yet still searching. Give them comfort and peace.
Heavenly Father, be a protective wing for those who have survived, but lost their home. Grant the men, women and children the needed fortitude and assistance they need to recover and rebuild. Show me how best to pray for their needs and guide my prayer.
Lord God of all creation, be strong with directed purpose for those whose job it is to search through the rubble for those lost. Give them endurance and strength as they complete their responsibilities.
God of comfort and mercy, help us come together as one body in You during this time of tragedy.
You are the redeemer, the source of our strength and courage, please provide us with reassurance, humanity and faith.
In Your holy and merciful name, we humbly kneel and pray.
Amen.

A disaster of this magnitude could also have huge impact on the balance of power in the region. If Erdogan must have US aid it will affect Russia. If Russia and China step in the sea ways are Putins. Then we have to see if Greece and the Aegean Islands come into play. Then you have the Kurds on Turkeys border carrying out terror attacks and backed by the US. This can go any number of ways. I understand the human cost but Erdogan is a huge question mark.
I only see Erdogan pursuing the path that advances himself as the leader of a restored Ottoman empire much like the one of years past.
But enough of that. Aid will be accepted begrudgingly with or without credit to the benefactors, like Israel or the US.
Russia sent aid right after it happened. I haven’t read about Biden’s administration’s plans or if he made a comment acknowledging the horrific disaster.
Those poor people…heartbreaking 😢🙏
When tragedy strikes, the the right thing to do is to give aid to those that you can to alleviate the suffering and save lives.
I agree with you in spirit, but not in the reality I’ve witnessed.
Look at money & aid to Haiti, {The Clinton Foundation}, Africa, {Idi Amin, et al}, the United States…
Money lines the pockets of the wealthy & goods are confiscated & sold to highest bidders.
Real help always seems to come at the end of caring people’s loving arms, huge cranes, heavy equipment & those with hearts of iron.
When I hear, “Send money & we’ll buy what’s needed,” I cringe.
We send plane loads of our money to fund wars, & those in the war-bed.
How many billions of dollars of equipment did we leave in Afghanistan?
And how many people?
It’s the unsung heroes who will come through in this devastation, just like always.
Also the hurriane aid sent to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017, warehouses full of water and infrastructure repair material not used. Corruption of the Puerto Rican government lining their pockets instead of their citizens, and because Trump sent it, not used to make him look bad.
Individuals should give. Christian organizations also.
Confiscated American printed tax dollars? Hmm.
Most ground videos i have seen include “Allahu akbar.” Literally “my god is greater than your God.” If your god is telling you to propagate this, then by all means open your wallet.
at this point, we put politics aside
aid for the people
after all they have been indoctrinated
by their governments just like we were
and so many still are
There are ways to help people without giving blank checks.
I care not for Islam, but Muslims are people too.
I have learned over the last twenty years that governments and places of worship mess with the minds of people and get them to believe in the most stupid ideas. I know that God and Jesus are the Truth but too many people are kept away from that Truth.
The Globalists know that if they can keep people ignorant then they can control them. Religion, from a cultural perspective, as opposed to God and Jesus (not a religion but a Truth) keeps people within their cultural clan with elders and leaders who will excommunicate you should you try to leave.
Just like the Satanists are doing here in the West who want to remove God and Jesus, build up a new society that celebrates every deviancy that they can think of, tear down the family and God sanctioned morality, and finally, PUNISH anyone who dares to push back and fight against those in charge. Look at what our modern churches are doing.
So no, I will not blame the common muslim peasant who is stuck where they are. Watching buildings collapse is horrify to see. Going from one day where everything is fine to the next day where it looks like a war zone is terrifying and emotionally debilitating.
I feel very sorry for these people. Most of them are pawns in a political game. Their world just got destroyed.
Yes…once again, Joe is asleep at the wheel.
With what has happened the last few days Joey B. should be ashamed to show his face at the State of the Union speech.
he preaches to his believers
not us
America has been there in the past in response to disasters all around the world.
We’ll see what happens, but this country has changed.
I’m not sure we’ll be of much help.
I believe the government agency is
called US Aid.
fed by our tax dollars
Still trying to create the channels for the 10%?
True. The Treaty of Lausanne has expired.
Turkey will rise through this!
Point of Order: I thought the US abandoned the Kurds. Ok, well we cynically manipulate them to manipulate Erdogan.
Russia already sent aid.
Russia rescue and aid workers were mobilized to Turkey immediately.
The countries/region around Turkey have been coming to their aid. I even saw report that China is offering to send aid. I am pretty sure I saw reports that Greece and Italy have offered aid.
Turkey is a NATO member and I am sketchy on whether they are sending aid.
To see all the other countries coming to their aid makes me think that human kindness and decency still exists.
It is heartbreaking to see the tragedy and devastation.
I had occasion to be a patient in an ER in Southern Turkey. The Turkish hospital could’ve been in any city in the US. Drs were Western trained, equipment and facilities were new, and everyone I encountered spoke English. Turkey is a very large, somewhat resource-rich, developed country. It’s not going to destabilize over an earthquake, in my opinion.
I saw a documentary on netflix about the
Mr Everest climbing disaster and the building
collapses in Nepal.
I was shocked when a Nepal government
official was very negative towards US Aid
who were there to help
we are hated the world over
1) we have too much and there is jealousy over that
2) our government is arrogant
3) we start too many wars, not to
protect allies but for other reasons
which has not escaped the rest of the world
One of my friends son was over in South Korea
for an internship in architecture. He came back
and said that they hate the US.
I watch a lot of british mystery television and in most of
the Hercule Poirot series there is a bashing of
Americans. Just a snide remark here and there.
Just like now in American novels. There seems to
be an anti President Trump line in many.
Just read my last Patricia Cornwall novel. Way politicized.
Grrrrrr.
Since her storyline has been the same for 20+ years, guess I won’t be missing anything.
That’s all it takes for me! Doesn’t matter if they’re a writer or an actor, the minute they go political they’re off my list!
Amen
Lord have mercy on us all.
Amen and Amen,
This is very weird as I’m not one to understand planet alignment but it was two days I said to my wife, I just saw a photo of 5 planets lining up. Same thing happened in Japan in I believe 2011.
I’m sure it’s just coincidence.
Prayers to those people.
I hope this is not a HAARP alignment. Prayer is definitely the priority here.
You might find this interesting, linking earthquakes to alignments and I also understand the Elinin comet will be very close to earth soon.
https://www.naturaltherapycenter.com/are-planetary-alignments-responsible-for-earthquakes/
There are links between planetary “alignments” and the unique destructions that left Egypt un ruins at the time Israel came up out of her.
I don’t think enough “science” has been used in identifying these sort of links. In these Last Days, there are signs in the heavens above and in the earth beneath. It is also stated that the Heavens will be shaken, earthquakes in diverse places. Then comes the analogy of a woman in travail and pained to be delivered. The intensity increases as does the frequency until the moment of birth.
Perilous times. Our family will add these peoples into our prayers over the coming week. I hope they are able to save a great many alive from the rubble and ruin of the fallen buildings.
I think from now going forward the word “science” will be in quotation marks/s
I believe that occurred in June 2022. Whether or not there is a ‘relationship’, I do not know. 2023 is going to be a ‘bumpy’ year in so many ways.
I’ve been on twitter watching all the video. Horrible time to happen most at home in bed. The death toll will be staggering.
As a muslim country, they will have some comfort that it is Insh’Allah. (It is God’s will.)
You’re a diplomat, are you?
Get em while they’re down eh?
Have you been recently wronged by some Turks?
The dead and injured will be mostly like us, just normal every day people.
The death toll will be enormous.
There is a difference between gallows humor, and just being an AH.
we have to realize that the victims are human beings, just like us.
Its their government that are assholes, just like ours.
Oh Sundance your prayer resonates strongly. Thank you.
Because I live in earthquake country I downloaded an earthquake report app I believe was created by CalTech. The acronyms are CSEM-EMSC. This app reported at least two magnitude 7.0+ earthquakes within 24 hours inside the country of Turkey. The aftershocks register every few minutes and range from 3.0 to 6.0 all over the country. Having been in the 1989 6.9 magnitude Bay Area / Santa Cruz earthquake (“Loma Prieta”), I can attest to how truly awful this is for the people all over the country and even the region.
Not only the physical damage, the psychic trauma of not knowing when the next destructive tremor is coming…and the aftershocks go on and on, decreasing in frequency as the days go by.
May God, our Divine Source, Creator and Sustainer of all, manifest healing and compassion for all of us.
Every 1/10th increase on the Richter scale means that the earthquake is 1000 times more violent. A 7.8 is SIX TIMES more violent than a 7.2.
Amen.
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.—Mark 13:8; see also Matt. 24:7 and Luke 13:11.
My heart breaks for everyone affected. Our only hope is Christ, Who is soon to appear for those waiting for Him.
You read my mind. I only listed Mark. I’m glad you listed the rest of the verses.
I hope He comes soon!
Buildings have been collapsing all day.
They go quick and catch people unaware, resulting in more injuries and deaths.
Truly frightening. I’m not sure you could convince me to go fishing thru collapsed buildings looking for survivors, what with the instability + aftershocks. I PRAY for all the brave selfless souls who put their own lives on the line to rescue others.
reminds me of 9-11
Would appear to be like Bldg. 7. But Bldg. 7 was definitely a covertly-engineered demolition, as evidenced by multiple private videos taken just before and during its collapse.
This building was more than likely not built to the structural standards of any in Manhattan. Plus there were no visual indications of explosives detonating just before it collapsed.
Amen.
Alex Christoforu was saying in his morning YouTube that at 3:3o a.m. he felt the tremor and it lasted for about a minute.
He is in Greece.
Prayers for the people 🙏 in Turkey.
Thank you and Sundance for your prayers. I have been praying and reading about this all day. Prayers for all affected in Turkey and Syria. A lot of needy people will become even more needy with so much devastation and shock.
Where the earthquake is shown is not far from Incirlik Air Base, a joint Turkish/American air base familiar to anyone who was with the Kurdish relief effort after the first Gulf War. Are there any reports from Incirlik?
I have read that that area is OK.
Joint bases are usually where tragedy comes from. See Australia.
Earthquakes scare me.
The suddenness of it all. The inability to prepare. Where to go when it starts. All of it…
Of all natural disasters, it always seems like earthquakes are the ones where we have the least amount of control and options for survival. I think that’s why they scare me the most.
Like you’ve experienced hurricanes, earthquakes demonstrate man’s lack of power and control over his environment. Additionally, they demonstrate a power so profound, only a Living God could control that much power
I’m with you. When I was a teenager, my church youth choir went on a trip to Southern California. I made a remark to our host family about being scared of earthquakes (I STILL remember seeing pictures on the news as a kid of the Good Friday earthquake that hit Alaska). They just laughed it off & proclaimed their fear over tornadoes. I wasn’t quick enough on my feet to tell them if it’s not raining or no clouds there’s no need to worry about tornadoes.
My dad was an aerial photographer in the AF Reserves when I was a 9yo punk kid in 1964 … he flew to Alaska to photograph the destruction. It was horrifying. What particularly scared me half to death was seeing photos of the ground literally splitting open and heaving. It fed my primal fears that the ground could suddenly open up and swallow you into a dirt grave. Yiikes! That still gives me the willies
Kenji, how frightening…!
My3 small experiences with an earthquakes, we had a few small ones, in the Canal Zone…as an adult it scares me know…back then we shrugged our shoulders after a few minutes…
The worst was a reported 4.4 at the epicenter….I remember our government ceramic/marble tile floor looked like there were waves of water under neath….the floor rippled like smallish waves at the ocean. The remarkable thing was that there was no damage to the flooring. Trying to walk was like being physically intoxicated but sober mentally.
Saw the same “wave action” on a big sliding glass door in Taiwan.
And remarkably, no damage to the door.
But my knees were so weak and wobbly I couldn’t move for what seemed like 10 min. afterwards.
Totally disorienting.
I was born on Kodiak Island , AK in Jan of 1964, in Mar of 1964 the earthquake struck and
just completely destroyed everything, hundreds of feet up the hills. I have a booklet that was
made afterwards, Kenji, maybe your dad took some of the pictures in the book.
It could be. I have boxes of his old negatives … I should sift through those to look for eq pics
I was visiting my sister, who lived in Anchorage, in 2004. We made a rode trip to Valdez. While there, we visited the Earthquake museum. Valdez was wiped out by the tsunami that struck after the earthquake hit. Incredible that anyone survived.
At least earthquakes are over quickly. Most of them there’s barely time to react. Although also having gone through the La Prieta quake of ’89, it lasted nearly a minute and subjectively that was a VERY long time. And these days, we all know where the fault lines are and which areas are prone to quakes. Living in the San Francisco bay area, no place is very far from a fault zone. Which is why our current house is sitting on solid bedrock, not on loose sediments of bay fill. It may shake here but at least we won’t have ground failure. We had earthquake insurance until CA made the companies stop selling it. And there are ways to prepare, which is also why heavy objects in our home are bolted to wall studs, the flatscreen TV is strapped down, and we have emergency supplies and water for 30 days, if need be. Also earthquake supplies in both cars in case we’re on the road and a big quake happens. I am a lot more scared of tornados and couldn’t even imagine going through hours and hours of being in a hurricane as you’ve done repeatedly!
Earthquakes happen without warning. At least with tornadoes, the weather conditions have to be just right for them to happen. Both are certainly scary.
And I live in Tornado Alley
Northern End of Tornado Alley…not far from Plainfield IL 1990, August.
People often joke about ‘Mother Nature’, but truly I think its the hand of God.
i remember seeing a cement mixer in a tree
Oh man, I so agree with everything you said here.
Still blows my mind to be in homes (my own included) here in Florida and note that everything’s not bolted to the walls.
There is earthquake insurance available in California ever since the Northridge quake in 1994. It’s sold privately and through the California Earthquake Authority. Easy to get online. I’ve had it for 10 years.
There is also an earthquake early warning system app called “My Shake” which detects the less damaging “P ” wave about 30 seconds before the more serious “S” wave, allowing you time to duck and cover or get into an open area. It sounds an alarm before the serious shaking starts. Many animals can detect this wave before shaking starts.
yeah, they use that to stop trains in California
although if the quake is more nearby, you won’t get a 30-second warning, it can be just a few seconds
Having been through the Sylmar quake ~1971, which destroyed the VA hospital & condemned the VA that I worked in, & the Northridge quake of 1994, I HATE earthquakes.
You are helpless if near the epicenter.
You can’t run for an exit with the floor & ground heaving beneath you, as you try to grip the carpet while the fridg slams through the wall & everything around you is crashing down.
I took out insurance after the Sylmar quake & every year the company tried to raise it as I had 5% deductible. But the insurance couldn’t raise a few lucky ones to assuage their fear of payouts.
After the Northridge quake, all private insurance was canceled, & the piss-poor substitute instituted.
We had over $50,000 damage. Neighbors lost their homes completely.
We survived & we were able to get our repairs done.
Thank you, God.
I was in Tustin during that quake. I was 11 at the time.
The memory of complete helplessness is cemented in my mind. ✝️
Earthquakes are not necessarily over quickly. If you checks the stats on the 2011 Japan quakes, the time frames are horrific. Many minutes.
I’ve been subject to an earthquake when I was living in Japan, right before I was supposed to fly home. I kept thinking as it was happening, “thank God they build better here”. It was quite a rumble but everything was ok. Not sure about Turkey.
Makes you wonder why Turkey, that has had so many deaths due to earthquakes doesn’t demand better building too.
My 3,500 sq ft (mostly self-built) two story home near the Hayward Fault rode out the Loma Prieta eq very well … and I DO mean … rode … it out (according to my wife). I was in our brand new remodeled, retrofitted office building in Larkspur … the old Brick Kiln building. As part of the building project, we had reinforced the historic 150 ft lightly reinforced brick smokestack with a steel tube insert (like 10 ft diameter steel “tube” – lowered into the stack and welded in sections) and drilled SS rock anchors into the bedrock below and secured to the new tubular steel.
so the eq hit … and the building was doing just fine … but we all ran to the windows to see what the smokestack was doing. We watched it literally sway about 6ft at the top side to side … and it seemed as though it would never stop. It finally did, and the only damage was about a dozen bricks came loose and fell 150 ft to the pavement below. Note to self … it’s not necessarily better to be OUTSIDE during EV’s.
I agree with you tankascribe, I have long thought it has to be easier to deal with a sudden unexpected earthquake than to wait for hours for a hurricane to do its thing. I don’t know if same can be said for tornadoes, they seem more quick to form.
Just checked the quake app again, aftershocks and shaking all over, 5.4 in eastern Turkey 45 m ago, 5.6 in central Turkey 4’ 45” ago, lots of shakers all over in between. The geology of that whole area is remarkable.
Earthquake insurance now not sold? Too many claims…am waiting for the same in FL regarding hurricanes.
Lax building codes, building inspectors paid to look the other way…?
You represent the personal responsibility that many do not engage in.
For EQs, you “prepare” well ahead of time, and then **forget** about it, because you *don’t* know when they’ll come. It’s more “relaxing and chill” in that respect.
Lived in many EQ places, and I’d take EQs over Hurricanes any day. Hurricanes you get the Heads Up weeks in advance that it *may * be heading your way and then begins the nerve wracking weeks and days of tracking and preparing. ugh. Pins and needles the whole time.
If you’re *really* lucky in an EQ zone, you’ve got a neighbor with a quake sensitive cat or dog who tells you to get out the building a little bit ahead of time!
That said, EQs, as well as ‘Canes, will be devastating for those who take the brunt of either and it is painful watching what these people in Turkey and Syria are going thru right now.
It *really* bothers me that, on top of everything else, it is cold and snowy. So they’re stuck outside, freezing, while staying clear of bldgs. that may yet collapse, or rescuing others, etc.
We usually don’t see bad EQs in wintry weather.
I feel so bad for these people.
For everyone: If you ever feel a quake, react immediately to get outdoors or at least in a door frame if it’s a house sized structure or down the hall next to the elevator shaft if you’re in a high-rise, that’s the strongest part of the building
Seismic waves segregate into faster and slower phases as they move out from the epicenter
The fastest are the ‘P-waves’ (compressional waves) — They hit with an immediate impact and are like sitting at the kitchen table and grabbing it and shaking it forward and back rapidly with both hands – it’s a back and forth shaking parallel to the ground, roughly
Later to hit are S-waves (shear waves) — They are a rolling motion and much larger in wavelength – sometimes people can see them rolling across the landscape, actual moving waves in the earth surface.
You’ll feel the shaking increasing greatly compared to the initial P-waves. These are what’ll bring houses and buildings down.
So if you react INSTANTLY when you feel the first P-waves, you stand a chance of getting out before the real mayhem intensifies
The later waves will be delayed more with greater distance from the quake origin. Close by there won’t be much separation, but with greater distance you get more time to beat feet.
But again, act instantly. If you and family members stand around for awhile asking “was that a quake?” or “did you feel that?”, you’ve lost your chance to act.
I’ve experienced 2 or 3 decent shakes and the delay from early onset to greater shaking
Couple other types of S-waves too
First class advice!
Well explained.
Very informative! TY! In the 90’s I experienced those S-waves. I had been standing at an upstairs window and I could actually see one rolling down my street straight towards my home (I lived in the cul-de-sac at the end of the street.) Except for some things falling in the garage, no damage occurred thankfully. But it was all very eerie.
fascinating to hear a first-hand account, Jude – thx
“I could actually see one rolling down my street straight towards my home”
You musta thought “What the holy hell is this, that cometh my way?”
I saw one rolling down our Cul-de-sac also. It was like an ocean wave and the cars were swaying like boats! Quite amazing. Whittier Quake ~1990.
I was ironing in our family room when I saw our floor do that….
Weirdest eq I ever experienced was at a Kiwanis meeting at our local church assembly building. I LITERALLY watched a WAVE of the eq move through the large room. Literally … building elements moving like an invisible wave was rolling through the room … from one end to the other. Lived in the Bay Area my entire life … rode out many an eq … but never one shaped quite like that. They all hit differently … with most feeling more like a short, loud and violent JOLT … as if a large truck just hit your building. The long rolling ones scare me most. The ones I’ve experienced that just keep going on for about a minute are very unnerving.
whoa
Very informative…thank you.
Nimrodman: Please see the US Geologial Survey recommendations regarding what to do, or not do, during an earthquake. Running outside is the #1 do not do. Standing in a door frame is also no longer recommended.
thx, bill
I won’t take the time, but I can’t see how running outside is inadvisable in a residential neighborhood of single family homes or 2-story townhouses
certainly you don’t want to run outside in an urban setting where sheets of glass can be popping out and crashing to the sidewalk
I have to agree. I live in the area of the New Madrid fault. Some say that one is long overdue. The last one changed the course of the Mississippi River.
I was a young child when the 1959 Hegben Lake earthquake in Montana hit.
Very scary. It was a 7.2
Also was in the 2001 Nisqually quake in Washington.
The building at the Renton Boeing plant I worked in was destroyed. That one was a 6.8
I remember watching all the cars in the parking lot bouncing around like popcorn in a machine.
It is a truly frightening experience and there is nothing you can do but pray.
I was in the Nisqually quake.
Lucky for me, the house I lived in was built on very solid rock and all was fine. I mean, we *felt* it and got out of the building quickly, but no speakable damage anywhere inside.
Friends in other parts of Seattle did not fare as well. At the very least, stuff had flown all over their rooms, etc.
Sundance: With earthquakes, as with any type of natural disaster, education and preparation matters. One can prepare for and act in earthquakes just as effectively as with hurricanes or tornadoes.
Also, building codes work.
Most of the death, injury and damage in Turkey and Syria will be due to unsafe construction and use of the the “wrong” building materials.
Amen 🙏

NATO Must Stand Up to Turkey’s Blackmail
https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/02/03/nato-must-stand-up-to-turkeys-blackmail/
I am really beginning to question if “weather events” have been fully weaponized…
oh, you silly conspiracy theorist. 😜
a decade ago one might have thought so; not now; so many have come to be true.
Weather events aside, it’s hard to imagine today’s events won’t weaken Erdogen’s hand in keeping Sweden out of NATO.
I think Erdogen’s focus will be elsewhere for some time.
I couldn’t help but note when the building came down it reminded me of all the 9-11 Truther people going on and on about inside job.
If they can do Covid then they can do the weather is how I see it. Maybe it is just because back in the day there wasn’t much in the way of seeing things happen live, and back then there was lots less to be damaged. I don’t know, other than I feel really bad for these people all the way around.
While I very much doubt human ability to control earthquakes, I experienced an odd event on Ft. Ord. An earthquake drill was announced weeks in advance at a particular time. At the appointed time we all followed directions and exited our buildings and gathered at evacuation points. When released to return to the buildings, an earthquake struck. While the quake was mild, we all gathered again at the evacuation points and discussed the odd timing of these events.
I often wonder too, Iran and their nuke program doing underground tests or explosions?
no strong opinion here however….24 hurs after the ‘weather’ balloon was removed from our airspace, I noted in my corner of the Midwest….those pesky jet trails criss crossing the sky…last night, too.
Again…one year on my way to Ames Iowa….in the western pre dusk and sunset sky….jet trails…..amongst others…one was in the perfect shape of a tik tak toe board….some pilot with a sense of humor?
I then decided if there were circles or x’s in the boxes, I was heading home.
Yeah they may use those trails for over the horizon radar reflectivity or simply cover up of land from satellites. We don’t see the chem trails much anymore. I’m pretty sure they ended that program in 2014. I guess 5 years or so of it is all they needed to crank up the global temp.
Own the weather by 2025. That’s been the goal.
Two babies were born ,one while the mother was still trapped, a man ran with the naked baby who looked limp, someone ran after him with a warm blanket.
There are hundreds of high rise apartment buildings so close to each other. I saw them on google maps of the epicenter. There have been more than a hundred aftershocks, some over 6.+ earthquakes. Each one brings down more damaged buildings.
There’s nowhere to run, its freezing.
I have been praying All day.
But little finally coming on the news while unholywood celebrates satan.
Lord deliver us from evil
Forgive us all our offenses against you and your truth. Let your name be honored.
In Jesus precious name
The two most helpless beings on earth, IMHO…the newborn and the mother just delivering….
Amen 🙏
Amen….and thank you again SD and Treehouse Family for extending prayers to me and my family Friday night. After seeing dad before surgery (entire colon removed) that day I prepared myself for the worst.
Saturday afternoon when I walked into the hospital the contrast was stark. He was back. Mom has not told him yet about the Prayers from this place and I suggested that she wait to read them when he got out of the hospital. Still waiting on the biopsy results. I suspect he will be positive but given the speed of his recovery he’s probably going to be ok.
Again wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude from me and my family. You made a few of us cry and cowboys aren’t supposed to do that.
God Bless the people affected by this terrible earthquake. And God Bless all of you!
Turkey is at the juncture of 3 tectonic plates, African, Arabian, and Eurasian
The construction of buildings was also not “really adequate for an area that’s susceptible to large earthquakes,” said the author of the book “The Million Death Quake”.
The East Anatolian fault has not had a magnitude-7 quake for over two centuries, which could mean people were “neglecting how dangerous” it is, Musson said.
Because it had been so long since the last big quake, “quite a lot of energy” may have built up, Musson theorised.
The strength of the aftershocks on Monday, including a huge 7.5-magnitude tremor, supported this theory, he added.
Why was the Turkey-Syria earthquake so deadly?

As I fear we’ll find ourselves saying more and more frequently in this formerly great nation of ours, Ryder:
“De nada”
Washington State is another area that has the potential for a devastating earthquake. There’s a lot of buildings there not built to withstand a big earthquake.
WOW! From that article that you shared: ‘This earthquake was “almost a rerun” of a 7.4 magnitude one in the same area on August 13, 1822, Musson said.
It caused “an enormous amount of damage, whole towns in ruins, and casualties in the tens of thousands,” he said.
Aftershocks from that quake continued to rumble until June the following year.’ Can’t even begin to imagine 10 mos. of ‘rumblings’ from such an event.
“Because it had been so long since the last big quake, “quite a lot of energy” may have built up, Musson theorised.”
That describes the San Andreas in CA and the Cascadia Subduction Zone along the West Coast pretty well. With the Cascadia a large tsunami threat also exists.
Being a native Californian of near seven decades I put my chances of going out before a big one (like 1906) at 50/50. The San Andreas in particular in my historical area has been eerily quiet the last decade or two. I use Parkfield as reference since it’s nearby and is used for scientific study of the fault.
Like 1906-forward changed directions in construction methods in CA, hopefully this event will have similar effects in the damaged region. Rest in peace to those lost.
Tsunamis. THAT’S what worries me the most about EQs.
I always made a mental note of how high above Sea Level I was before deciding where to live in EQ areas.
It is a terrible disaster. I saw where almost immediately Russia was sending people and planes with emergency teams and equipment and medical supplies. So many others were chiming in: Azerbaijan, Romania, UAE, Albania. Turkey called Israel and asked for mobile hospitals and Israel is sending. The 300 Russian soldiers in Syria were sent to the area of the earthquakes.
Greece, in constant conflict with Turkey, actually offered to put their military at the convenience of Turkey!
One of the poignant stories of the day. A woman under the rubble gave birth to a baby boy. The boy was rescued, but the mother did not survive.
That’s good to know.
Thank you for that report!
I have a manufacturing customer with some of my machinery near Kahramanmaras and I’ve spent several weeks there, staying in town. I always enjoyed the area, nice people. I fear the destruction we are seeing and noting is but the tip of the iceberg. The time of day, the winter season, almost everyone was indoors.
I’ve heard nothing from my customer or several friends there, so far. I continue to hope for the best.
I have friends in Turkey far away from the quake. They have associates in the affected area that have reported in as safe.
I heard from one of my friends, indirectly, this morning. He and his family are all safe and leaving Kahramanmaras as they have no power or water and no gasoline.
Indirect because one of my friends in the US received a message from him. Communications are difficult. He reports our customers are also safe, but in difficult circumstances.
Big trucks with what look like cranes were sent by Iran and were pictured in Turkey today. The EU is sending search and rescue teams from 10 countries.
There were huge aftershocks also in Turkey….magnitude 6.6 and 6.0, I think.
There were earthquakes around the whole world it seems. A magnitude 5.4 in Kazakhstan. A magnitude 3.4 or so in Serbia. An equally small one in Hawaii.
And perhaps out of the generosity of heart of the US (do we have a heart?) maybe sanctions could be lifted from Syria?
I’ve been watching the USGS for some time now. It’s not just that region. The Southern Coast of the South American Continent, right on up need to be very on guard, or prepared as much as possible. The South West Coast appears to be headed for trouble. Foreshocks in the 5-6 range may be a very bad sign.
3.8 in upstate NY near Buffalo
3.1 in Snyder, Tx with 9 total in the last week. There was also a gas explosion on the 28th of January which shut down the Kinder Morgan facility in Snyder a specialty facility. No injury’s. Not sure if they may be related. Many more quakes throughout Texas in the past week.
“And perhaps out of the generosity of heart of the US (do we have a heart?) maybe sanctions could be lifted from Syria?“
No we do not ! We’re ruled by sadistic evil.
It’s times like this that really engender anger over the wasteful spending in places like Ukraine. Given the hundreds of Billions of US dollars to take lives, we could have used it to save lives now.
So very true.
The Jerusalem Post is on the story.

“2/06/2023 — ALERT — SECOND Large M7.8 (M7.5) earthquake strikes Turkey — Serious Seismic Event”
(dutchsinse)
Amen
Amen.🙏🏻♥️
Earthquakes, bitter cold, and now getting reports from Turkish Media and Pro-TFSA outlets that the town of Mare in Northern Syria is being attacked by Kurdish rebels from YPG/SDF/PKK/HRE with rockets and artillery.
According to them, Turkish Armed Forces (TAF/TSK) are conducting strikes and hitting the Tel Rifat line intensely as of now.
We hear from several sources there (missionaries) that the situation in Lebanon and Syria is also bad, complicated by bad weather.
May God act to save folks and protect emergency workers.
As an aside, many years ago we spent a night in Diyarbakir on our way to Nemrut Dag (fascinating ruin, burial mound of Antiochus I, a Commegne king). There was a minor earthquake while we were there. Quite scary.
Will the USA lift the sanctions on Syria so those people can get the needed help?
Amen.
From what I understand, the same type of Fault that brought about this earthquake is the same type that lies under Southern California. Fifty yrs. ago I had the opportunity to visit a very small chapel near Waco, TX. It was known by Believers for a couple of reasons: 1-Brother Andrew who had smuggled Bibles into Russia was affiliated with this chapel. I recall his testimony of how he was stopped once at the border with a VW packed full to the roof with Bibles. The guards looked in his car and saw nothing there. 2-This chapel is where the prophecy came forth of CA falling into the ocean. (Folks would joke about buying up property in NV so that they would have beach-front property one day.) CA is long overdue and seismologists see this happening as a real possibility.
MT. 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines and earthquakes in divers places. ASV
And please pray for the rescue dogs. I saw a clip of one of those USAID type agencies carrying the crates w/the dogs in them. One dog, a German Shepherd, was clearly way too old be lugging around the world going through rubble. So very sorry for all concerned, hard to fathom.
Oh yeah we sure don’t wanna forget about dogs
Too bad a 9.5er magnitude couldn’t hit the CCP in Beijing. Hundreds of millions of decent Chinese would be cheering.
China is one of the places that tend to have high death tolls in earthquakes because of shoddy buildings. Even with codes, rules are broken by those in power. Bet the CCP insists on proper buildings for itself.
Now, if you could focus it on the CCP itself, and not make all those innocents suffer.
So much suffering. Amazing how quick many are to judge and dismiss rather than to pray and give aid. “You will know them by their deeds”…
Amen.
LK. 21:28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
The Parable of the Fig Tree
29 Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
This makes all my problems seem so trivial and irrelevant.
May God comfort them and console them in their hours ,weeks and years to come.
So true.

Bottom line for me-I dont want to ever live in a block of air-ie and apartment. I want to be on the ground, on the land
Rural living for me. One-story home on a large lot. Do trees fall in earthquakes?
Earthquakes can systematically trigger other ones on opposite side of Earth
New research shows that a big earthquake can not only cause other quakes, but large ones, and on the opposite side of the Earth.

If that’s accurate, CA could be next.
Plan accordingly.
Earthquake footage shows Turkey’s buildings collapsing like pancakes. An expert explains why
Poor construction is a known problem
Many of the collapsed buildings appear to have been built from concrete without adequate seismic reinforcement. Seismic building codes in this region suggest these buildings should be able to sustain strong earthquakes (where the ground accelerates by 30% to 40% of the normal gravity) without incurring this type of complete failure.
The 7.8 and 7.5 earthquakes appear to have caused shaking in the range of 20 to 50% of gravity. A proportion of these buildings thus failed at shaking intensities lower than the “design code”.
There are well-known problems in Turkey and elsewhere with ensuring safe building construction and adherence to seismic building codes. Similar building collapses have been seen in past earthquakes in Turkey.
In 1999, a huge quake near Izmit saw some 17,000 people dead and as many as 20,000 buildings collapse.

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. 🔥🙏🔥
If it really was the estimated 7.8 magnitude, this earthquake probably would have destroyed buildings and overpasses in CA where earthquake building codes are the highest on earth.
That’s a really big quake.
I left CA some time back, but I’ve been in really big quakes there.
I well remember the scariness of the Whittier Narrows quake of 1987.
Hubby was in Whittier, I was in Long Beach and it terrified both of us…… but it was only a 5.9 quake!
7.8 is gigantic!
Prayers for all those affected in Turkey.
I had relatives living in San Francisco during the ’87 hit. Thankfully, they were OK, but it all was very alarming.
Yes it is …
https://www.conservation.ca.gov/index/Pages/ca-big-quakes.aspx
but I highly doubt we’d see any damage that extensive. Our building codes and construction techniques have been refined over many, many decades.. Every building and every freeway in the the State have been retrofitted or completely reconstructed.
Every major amount of damage in modern CA eq.’s had extenuating causes. Eg. the Oakland freeway built on Bay Mud, with poor 1950’s shear reinforcement, or the 3-story Marina Dist. homes with unreinforced garage openings built on bay mud. All other buildings have performed very well.
You are probably right, but I can’t help having reservations about low-bid contracts and government contractors.
5,600 buildings collapse!!! Wow. Behold what happens when you don’t have (or follow) building codes … and your entire construction industry is corrupt and on the take. These aren’t all “old” buildings. And this is a WELL KNOWN seismically violent part of the tectonic plates!
And yet … the NY AG insists Donald J Trump is a “corrupt” builder. Last I checked, none of his buildings have fallen down
You’re right! = “Behold what happens when you don’t have (or follow) building codes … and your entire construction industry is corrupt and on the take.”
[Including building inspectors and other government officials]
+God Bless America and the Great Donald J. Trump!
Good points the NY AG needs to pound sand……
PDJT is a true businessman, time is money…business is in business to make money. Ahead of schedule and under budget.
Lets consider the building codes of various places around the world… the foundations of old…The cathedrals built in England….the forts in Panama (F.rt San Lorenzo), Machu Pichu, or Mayan structures to protect against conquistador es, etc….
The best that comes t mind….Roman roads that have been unearthed, the aqueducts high up on arched brick bridges…..
And the Colosseum. And yet, I bet they had corruption too…
It’s kinda sad that we’ve sent $110 Billion of my grandkids dollars (+interest) to a corrupt Ukraine … when TRULY INNOCENT earthquake victims need that kind of donation far more urgently and righteously.
Amen, Kenji
And prayers for the 200,000 young men who have died the last year from US meddling and malice in Ukraine. Funny how that news is suppressed but 20,000 nearby will be plastered over the news for weeks. All are horrible and need prayers and their families help.
“… US meddling and malice in Ukraine.”
Odd that. I thought it was the russians that invaded Ukraine and killed them.
Surely some people know what is going on … Prophetic times … the signs are there and the birth pains are picking up. IMO the table is being set. This appears to be a preview for the Tribulation. That doesn’t mean put your feet up and hide away. No always stand up for what is right, do what is right and do what you can to get people on board with Christ. These are unprecedented times and it is global! The clock started ticking when Israel became a nation back in May 14, 1948.
Mark 13:8
[8] For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

It’s unfortunate that the WHO has destroyed their own credibility with their part in the plandemic lies starting in 2020. Permanently.
Grossly inflated estimates is their specialty. 20,000 dead?
Remember “3.4% fatality rate” ? Used with similar lies by other authorities to create fear and panic to kick off the plandemic?
Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 – 43 BC) had an insight that seems relevant:
https://www.quotenova.net/authors/cicero/qnab59
Pray for those suffering in Turkey. And pray for all of us, “…lives endangered by plots…(by) enemies…” as Cicero observed.
20K dead is probably less than half the real number. Any decent size building built to bribe induced low specs, I would estimate 50-100 people per building at minimum.
Union leadership setting the standards/s

God help these people. Hope they get everyone out under the rubble. Thanks for the Prayer Sundance.
The Ataturk dam near Malatya is huge and in danger.
Temperature is 32 with lows of 19 .
This situation in Turkey looks very dire.
All over the world 100s of earthquakes 2. and above.
Prayers. Amen.
but will they accept aid from a Chrisian country? or will allah save them?
According to Islam, Christians, Muslims, and Jews are all “people of the book”. The same God by another name. The same ancestry.
May God comfort them and help the searchers find and rescue the living. Amen.
You real cute
Russia is a Christian country.
Turkey has not refused their aid.
when i did volunteer medical care in a muslim country, they accepted the help offered.
Yet when they saw me with Mother Teresa’s nuns on the city streets, market, etc, they spat at us because Christians are unclean.
Could have been the country’s own variation of islam, but in dominant muslim countries Christians are not welcome.
We CHRISTians, however, have an obligation to help all men as we all are made in the image of God.
Amen
