Last night I heard on local news (which is the only MSM news I consume) that his family has gotten 4 million in donations. For a football player who gets:
Damar Hamlin signed a 4 year, $3,640,476 contract with the Buffalo Bills, including a $160,476 signing bonus, $160,476 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $910,119. In 2022, Hamlin will earn a base salary of $825,000, while carrying a cap hit of $865,119 and a dead cap value of $120,357.
I can’t find if anything was privately donated in this case:

Actually we do have a good idea what caused his heart attack, a sharp blow to his chest at a particular time in his heart cycle.

Commodio Cordis occurs when a small fast moving projectile (e.g. baseball, puck, fist) hits the chest on the left side at a specific moment of the heart pump cycle (a 20 milisecond window). This can cause the heart’s cycle to be disrupted and lead to a singular heart attack which occurs immediately (i.e. within 2 seconds).
In Hamlin’s situation, he was broadly impacted on his right side at a much lower velocity and wider impact zone (leading to a much lower pressure on the chest). Additionally, his heart attack seems to occur (according to video) more than 4 seconds after impact. And lastly, according to press quotes from his family, he had at least two heart attacks. Commodio Cordis has never been reported to cause multiple heart attacks.
So, it seems to me that this potential root cause doesn’t have much merit.

After contact, the tackler took full control off the runner’s body, taking them both to the ground.
The question is, could such a blow, distributed across the tackler’s body by the chest protector of his shoulder pads have still been a blow to his heart?
Was the protection not good enough?
Does the heart slosh around inside the body because of these impacts the way that the brain sloshes around inside the skull? If it does, can that cause this damage that stops the heart?
The rest of the video does fit the description, controlling his body to get up after the tackle and then passing out. Do people suffering this not realize that their heart has stopped? Do they have similar signs to those of having a heart attack? The people who I have known that had heart fibrillations did sense them.
He didn’t seem even have time to clutch his chest.
I think it’s likely to be the force of the impact on the chest at precisely the wrong moment for the player. The helmet + the metal of the facemask, two players colliding = unbelievable shock to the chest.
Not until the video was put up on u tube in slo mo did I get to see a clear view of that impact.

He picked McConnell, now his worst enemy. Another huge mistake. Now he picks McCarthy, a known swamp rat who was backstabbing him and his supporters on January 6 and thereafter.

I too, love President Trump, and I agree that he has unfortunately picked many backstabbers. He continues this dreadful habit, perhaps because he is surrounded by the sewage that is permanent DC. The damage was done by the outgoing Senate Republicans who could have blocked the Omnibus spending bill which cannot be repealed as the Senate would have to concur and Biden would have to sign it, and he won’t. Therefore the House has no power of the purse until October 1st. As far as I’m concerned I care not if they accomplish nothing until that day, and that’s because they already gave away their own power — so there is no productive purpose to them being there at all with their so-called “majority” until that bill expires.
That is September 30th.
The only reason to support them convening the House and conducting business is if that is absolutely resolved and cannot happen again. Therefore the following has to be the set of conditions under which you vote for a Speaker:
There are no more omnibus bills or CRs; they are against House Rules. The budget has to go through regular order and if its not done on time the government shuts down and can spend nothing whatsoever until it is done. That’s the job of the House since all spending bills must originate there. Either do it or resign.
The House Rules are changed so that one business day must pass for each 100 pages of legislative text before a bill may be called for a vote after it is introduced, and the same applies to all amendments. No exceptions. If you want to bring a 4,000 page monstrosity to the floor that’s fine — you can’t vote on it for 40 business days.
All proxy voting and appearance is void; the people’s representatives must be present in person. If you’re not there then you can’t participate, period, and you also can’t count toward a quorum. You were hired to do a job. Show up and do it. This was the rule prior to the pandemic; put it back.
Any single member of the majority party may motion for the vacancy of the Speaker’s chair. Yep, one person. You’re a leader, not a king. Act like one or suffer having to survive votes to vacate. BTW this was the rule in the House prior to Pelosi’s “last stand” so this is in no way “radical.”
The Speaker commits that it shall be introduced and passed, and no other bill will be considered until this is both passed by the House and Senate, and signed or overridden if vetoed, that all declared “emergencies” from the Executive may extend no more than 72 hours beyond the House and Senate being able to be called into session. If the emergency is real then it can obtain legislative support via formal law within that time. If not then it is by definition illegitimate and void. No more OSHA jab mandates, CDC rent moratoriums and the EPA deciding to declare CO2 a “pollutant” without authorization by actual statute. Never again.
I think we can debate a few more, but those ought to be five without which I’m perfectly fine without a functional House of Representatives until October 1st.
The nation would be better off if they couldn’t do a thing for the next nine months if they won’t agree to this.

I am well over 65 and retired, which means: Medicare, Supplemental Plan G, Aetna-CVS Silverscript Plan D, VSP Visiion and a Delta Dental Retiree Dental Plan. Granted a few bobbles saving with different plans can be had, thefollowing insight is offered.

Part B Premium for most dropped $14 per month or a whopping $168 for the Year.
Part B DEDUCTIBLE went up $2 for the YEAR. While the difference looks nice, consider the deductible point is where costs to the PATIENT Changes … so a $2 change in the duuctible can eat $168 with no problems. It does not take much of change in deductibles to make any premium reductions vanish for ANY plan.
The Part A Hospital Deductible went UP….now consider most decent Supplemental and Advantage Plans COVER this cost…lets look at Supplemental Plans Costs.
Part G and Advantage Plan Premiums ALL went up but the bigger increase was in their deductible and out of pocket limits, no matter how slight.
Silverscript Part D DEDUCTIBLE went UP as did the Catastrophic Care number. Plus, all the DRUG plans have changed to quarterly formulary updates (increases) or a medically risky forced medication switch to a “preferred Brand/Generic”.
So much for the $168 premium savings and one can imagine what is really happening with the bills working folks pay.
For the retired and working folks, who actually pay the bills…it is not about COSTS to the service provider but is about the money that flows out of their pockets.

Not only that, the level of care that he needed to actually rehab his way home was not offered. They consider it a waste of resources. If my name had not been on an investment they would have grabbed it all and put a lien on his home.
We were lucky….my Brother convinced my parents to dump all their assets in a Trust Managed by my brother. Granted after my parents passed away it took nearly 2-years to unwind the Trust, due to PA State Tax Laws, but my folks never wanted financially and we were not impeded by their “income”.
One other note of warning based on 5 years of supporting my parents.
There are 2-Types of LONG TERM CARE to consider.
The first, is MEDICAL that has coverage and can be supplemented by LTC Policies that used to be available via Insurance Providers and still are to some limited extent.
The second, is a form of LTC that is never defined until it blows up in your face. DAY TO DAY LOGISTICAL Care (i.e. bathing, trips to the toilet, dressing & undressing, meals, going to bed, trips to the store, et al). MEDICARE, MEDICAID, Health Insurance and most Long Term Care Plans DO NOT Cover these expenses….decent LTC for these services runs about $30-40/ HOUR….or its into home after exhausting ALL your money. These services have to SPECIFICALLY requested and discussed (priced) over and above Medical Care
Are the 20 Republicans now going to cave, or are they going to hold firm? Maybe President Trump telling Republicans to vote for McCarthy will have the opposite effect.
Sure it looks interesting to see Congress actually debating and trying to “Compromise”… Count me among the skeptics on the saga of House speaker election.
The Source of my skepticism:
The Freedom Caucus its opposed the 2017 Tax relief Bill until their financial benefactors were happy.
The Freedom Caucus sat on the side lines for 4 YEARS, 2017-2020, while President Trump tried to implement policies they claim are needed NOW.
The Freedom Caucus sat on the sidelines for: elections 2020, the Congressional Certification of the 2020 Elections, current election reform Bills and incarceration of the 1/6 Protestors.
Members of the Freedom Caucus then are among the 20 hold outs today.
Plus, this looks allot like the same game played to give us Speaker Paul Ryan.
Sooo…it will be interesting to see where this is all going.
Note: I do not mean to imply McCarthy is another Paul Ryan…the Republican Party does have a few “surprise” Ryan Clone Candidates laying about who could be thrust forward to play the role for the sake of Compromise.
