“Years from now, it is unlikely anyone will remember that thing they unwrapped. What they will remember, what will have much greater impact, is a message from YOU to THEM that they matter, that they are loved.” ~Sundance
I first wrote about the great foreboding in 2021. I never thought it would apply to a second, let alone a third, advent. Essentially, this national foreboding narrative stems from a Godless political message intended to diminish the true meaning of this celebration. Seriously! Stop for a minute. Just stop.
Stop and think about the purpose of that narrative, and then ask yourself, are you succumbing to it?
This is the day of great joy, the greatest joy of all. A day when we celebrate a loving and purposeful blessing provided to us by our Creator. The universal truth. The pure perfection of a loving Child born in the most ordinary fashion for us, to us, to guide and share the most blessed and purposeful message that could ever be delivered to mankind: You are Loved.
Pause amid the human distractions. That message of love is pure.
Stop, sit in peace and join together in the joy.
Yes, it is true, all around us is this great sense of foreboding ugh, and it’s not just connected to a virus; it’s everything before and everything since. Everything being created around us is weird, everything created around us is less comfortable, everything created around us is intended to project less joy – and as a consequence, it requires an intensity of thought just to carry on ordinary events.
Christmas, the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is tonight and tomorrow. Yet, almost everything created around us seems purposefully placed to distract from that joy – and focus our attention on what joy we are missing.
Diminished faith creates anxiety, a sense of foreboding, a sense of fear and worry and a sense of trepidation. Additionally, evil tribesman know the strategy to create the environment for control, isolation.
Isolation, the tool to remove hope, begins with a diminishment of God. A faith-filled person is never alone.
In our daily lives, we encounter ordinary disconnects now. For many, isolation from the workplace has disconnected our sense of interaction, our human connection. Unfortunately, and as a natural outcome of these social and technological advancements, we are accepting disconnect and creating a void inside ourselves. At the same time many are physically disconnected from their families.
Many families will not gather this year to celebrate the joyous event of Christ’s birth. Perhaps parents and grandparents will not see their adult children for the first time in years. Perhaps destabilized families are disconnecting as they succumb to cultural fractures, economic challenges and purposeful roadblocks created by people who appointed themselves as leaders.
It is almost unbelievable when you contemplate the damage. Politicians, yes P.O.L.I.T.I.C.I.A.N.S, have created terms and conditions, instructions for you and me, with the expectation that somehow, we will adhere to their fiats or accept their cultural aspersions. I reject this.
I reject this effort with every fiber of my being.
Division, regardless of intent, is not a term or condition that I will accept. However, amid all of this bombardment, flux and ugh, even simple tasks like decorating the Christmas tree feel somehow senseless, seem less joyful.
Perhaps financial worry, again driven by the outcomes of man, stems the joy in shopping for family and friends. Perhaps the shine within the cheer is slightly dimmed, because all around us is something we cannot quite describe, yet we feel it.
Perhaps tears flow at times, and we struggle to understand what this unusual anxiety is all about. Then, we begin to struggle with the feelings of shame or guilt for being weak and allowing our humanity to pour out of our human selves. Then, at the worst possible time in the year, our faith organizations are slow to understand the importance of fellowship and community amid an upheaval that has taken our center from under our feet.
The insufferable lack of regional leaders standing tall only makes the anxiety worse. Where is the brave?
Where are the purposeful few who know the benefit of larger messages? I do not fault their absence, because their void reminds me to stop, look at that face I see while brushing my teeth, and remember the greatest strength of all is from within. Nothing has the capacity to remove the strength provided by a loving God unless we allow it to, unless we allow them to.
As our grip on our familiar surroundings becomes more tenuous, we are faced with dictates and mandates that only exacerbate the issues our community faces. Meanwhile, this ridiculous media drumbeat an incessant noise intent on destabilizing us. Perhaps we cannot quite put our finger on why the impact is worse now…. but it is. This effort of theirs is more impactful. It is all ugh. It is all just ugh.
If you find the assembly of these simple words familiar to your current sense, first understand YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Second, understand there is nothing wrong with you. This blanket of anxiety is laying across our entire nation, indeed the entire world, and no matter where we stand – we are all sensing a various level of this ‘ugh’ with some familiarity. However, that said, it is important to know this is transitional. We will not be in this place long. This too shall pass.
How do we shake these destabilizing feelings and emotions?
How do we reconnect to the core-spirit we carry in our lives?
These are the questions we should use to leverage ourselves back to a center of peace and hope. These are the questions that empower us to recharge our sense of purpose and life within the lives of others, including our community, family and friends.
♦ The first way we shake this ‘ugh’, is to give to others without reservation. Giving with purpose is the true spirit of human contact. The giving is not related to money or wealth, the giving is related to our human purpose. Perhaps we give a smile. Perhaps we give a kind word. Perhaps we give a compliment, or perhaps we just give time to another.
You could give a more valuable gift this year to anyone simply by reaching them. Perhaps send an email; or better yet, write a letter to a dear friend or family member, or just pick up the phone. Reach out and tell them they matter and express why their place in this life of yours is important. Remind them of your specific thankfulness and connect to the purpose of why we endeavor in this thing we call life.
Years from now, it is unlikely anyone will remember that thing they unwrapped. What they will remember, what will have much greater impact, is a message from YOU to THEM that they matter, that they are loved.
That moment you create, perhaps those multiple moments provided by your strength, will NEVER be forgotten.
That look in your eye or sound of your voice that reached into them and emphasized their value, their worth, their importance. That is the gift they will remember in great detail, forever.
The important thing is to give, and to do it without any other intent or purpose than to fill their heart.
♦ Within the giving, remind yourself what this journey is all about, and look around to recognize how fortunate we are to have this life. Choose to cherish the ultimate gift from a loving God who wants joy and hope to permeate our human sense.
Hope is the one necessary human element beyond all other facets of life. Give the gift of hope and light to those you love by first reminding yourself of the gift that a loving God has given us all. It is too easy in our human sense to forget the biggest gift we have been granted, the gift of life. The ability to live and choose how we engage in the lives of others.
Remind yourself of the kind of purposeful HOPE that would leave the most glorious throne to be born into a manger as a baby, only to grow into a Man willing to lay down His everything for the flawed people amid humanity. Why? Because that hope is pure. That love is perfect.
No politics or false sense of security can overwhelm the message of HOPE that a loving God has provided. No effort of man or human disposition can surmount the greatest love of all. The message of Christ’s birth is bigger and greater than any COVID virus or legislative battle.
“No power of hell, nor scheme of man” can come close to the purpose of God’s intent and love for you as a unique person qualified to receive that love.
Wrap yourself in the blanket of that unconditional love. Stop what you are doing.
Pause in the peace of this moment… set down your troubles, LISTEN and FEEL.
“Long lay the world in sin and error pining, til He appeared and the souls felt its worth. A thrill of HOPE; the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn…”
Let the tears flow, and with them release the foreboding. Engage in the next moment with a loving purpose filled with the HOPE that He provides. Fall forward to the centered purpose of your life, a very special life, and reflect on the gift we are too quick to diminish.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.”
Revelation 21:1-6
Abiding love to all.
You matter.
You are important.
You are loved.
Steadfast,
~ Sundance
Thank you, Sundance. I pray that you and your family will experience a new closeness to our Savior the Christmas. May God richly bless you in all ways. Thank you for all you do.
Great post.
we wait in awe and wonder to celebrate the day commemorating the birth of Christ. And wait patiently but perhaps with eager anticipation of his return.
Christmas blessings to you and yours, Sundance.
Thank you for standing steadfast in the Lord, and being a watchman on the wall.
I will not let them steal my joy,,,,,if I stay joyous they won’t win, Jesus is Lord
I heard once a monk say that a Christian should always be merry. Christian’s know all about suffering and know how to deal with it.
By the way … writing this I just noticed: president Trump is always merry! Follow his example!
I notice you included the portrait of Christ by Warner Sallman. Interesting story there. Read about it here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_of_Christ

Such an awesome story.
Thank You

“The insufferable lack of regional leaders standing tall only makes the anxiety worse. Where is the brave?”
This sentence resonated with me. My story. I thought there were issues in the 2020 election in Tennessee. I contacted the Governor that would only pass me along to the Secretary of State.
I bugged them with emails and after another email on a Saturday morning. I got a response to send my phone number and he called me a few minutes later. The SOS Hargett would have none of it, things were great in Tennessee. We have Dominion machines, but he said in only two counties.
So I did a deep dive. The bigger the county the bigger the increase in pecentage terms for Biden over Hillary. The 2 counties that had Dominion machines registered up 61% and up 50%. Any manufacturing guy would know there were problems.
Issue 2 was Covid. I started tracking it by county and in total for Tennessee. i was concerned if it killed young like the 1918 flu or other peculiarities. I am just an old manufacturing guy. But around mid April 2021 I noticed deaths in the under 30 ages groups began to spike with overall death percentage dropping in the 51+age groups??
It finally got bad enough in eary December, I emailed the Governor and Department of Health Commissioner. No responses. So I kept up the email barrage. After several emails basically ignoring it, the TN Dept of Health forwarded a response from the CDC, “deaths are within normal statistical variation”.
So they do not care that kids and young adults were dying in Tennessee. My gut says it was from the vaccine. I had our state representative set up a meeting in Nashville with representatives from the Dept of Health and I went through the numbers and my concerns that should be their concerns. Never got a reply.
The final straw was the Mutilation of Children by Vanderbuilt U. When it came out all the politicians were horrified and going to do something about it. What no one reported was the fact that they passed a State Law in 2019 to allow it.
The law was signed by Governor Lee. Gary Humble of Tennessee Stands exposed the fraud. He is a hero. There are no statewide leaders that are MAGA in Tennessee. The leadership in Tennessee would not allow bills that would stop the mutilation to leave the committee. They did not want a vote to stop it.
These are examples of Tennessee Conservative Leadership.
Who would subject themselves to the persecution that President Trump has experienced?
Who has that courage?
Tennessee is as red a state as there is. Our leaders are pink at best. I would like to thank State Senators Janice Bowling and Joey Hensley for being brave and stepping forward. May God protect them.
Replace “Tennessee” and Tennessee elected officials’ and state departments aith ‘Idaho” and Idaho politician names/departments and that you get the same: a supposedly very red state, but no MAGA state-wide officials, most are pink at best, bought and paid for by George Soros -minded folks.
Our HOPE truly has to be in or return to GOD. My tears are more abundant this Christmas than ever before–God is calling, inviting us back or inviting us closer, and it just humbles my heart to tears.
Merry Christmas Sundance, Menagerie, and all Treepers.
Thank you, Sundance!
As Tiny Tim said, “God bless us – everyone!”
When Christ came , the Roman Empire was not a great place to live. Christmas is hope and love—fill yourself up with it—-and then pass it on, to those you know and to strangers. The power of one is …………powerful.
Christianity triumphed over the Roman Empire… took 300 years! Don’t give up!
I was feeling down because plans to go to Mass and Christmas Eve dinner with daughter and her family fell through because of sickness of two of her three little ones.
I saw this by Sundance and, of course, I’m not alone. I have my husband and the coming of the Infant Christ.
Thank you, Sundance and thank you, Josh Groban!
Merry Christmas to you and All.
Thank you, Sundance. This is amazing and I intend to share it with many of my friends. Wishing you and yours a Blessed Christmas. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you, Sundance, for this much-needed reminder. As I go to visit my 94-yr-old Mother in her residential facility (and we have to meet on the porch outside because I refuse to wear a mask in her presence and confuse her), I will focus on how much my visit means to HER. In her Dementia, she still has the ability to recognize (and even ask for) me, and for that I am eternally grateful. I am also grateful that she cannot recognize the sad state our Nation is in, it would break her heart.
I struggle to release the foreboding EVERY DAY, and I take strength in the fact that I am not alone and that I stand among many great Americans who feel the same way.
God bless you and your family!
Thank You.. God Bless and Merry Christmas
May the Christmas blessings shine upon Sundance and everyone here at CTH. I purposely avoided all things political for past couple weeks. For one I was in the hospital and also because I wanted to focus and make more room in my heart for the immeasurable love our Creator bestowed upon us and the bountiful blessings he gave me….a family who also treasures the love of our Lord and Savior and our time together to celebrate this joyous season.
Merry Christmas to all!
Sorry to hear about your hospital stay. Hope you are doing better.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Merry Chritmas kf
May you be wrapped in His loving and caring hands tis Christmas Day.
God Bless.
It’s still unclear to me who exactly is calling the shots. Some ungodly entity with many evil helpers. Some of them we had thought were for us and are not.
The disciples on the road to Emmaus were sad!WHY? Their promised redeemer had escaped our worst enemy; death. WHY?
They had missed all the details he had patiently laid out for them. That the messiah must suffer death to be THEIR eternal salvation .
They thought they had a political problem. A temporary inconvenience.
But sin, separated them from the life giver. An eternal inconvenience.
Are we misreading our times also?
Didn’t he tell us also what must happen in order to bring this story to its proper end?
It is clear even to unbelievers that something just ain’t right.
But Jesus said to doubting Thomas and the others. “Let not your heart be troubled” you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told you. I go there to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and TAKE you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.
I am the way and the truth and the life no one comes to the Father except through me. ( John 14:1-6
The foreboding feeling is making it painfully obvious that this world is in decline and decay.
Some charismatic leader will be put in charge of this train wreck and all the frightened sheep will latch on to him.
Feelings are only our inner weather but faith in the Name of our Living God is our lighthouse . Look to him and we’ll find a safe harbor.
You are a great God Fearing man Sundance!
And as with your beautiful words spoken exactly 365 days ago…
Timing is Everything
and yours like mine obviously come from God.
Thank You Sir!
God Bless You and Yours
With Love
Steve
Terrific perspective and extremely well written, Sundance. For anyone who hasn’t come across it, the multi-season, crowd funded “The Chosen” is premiering the 3rd episode of their 3rd season tomorrow/Christmas evening at 7 pm eastern. It is a perspective of Christ that, I think it is fair to say, has never been presented before. It has been spectacularly well done so far and this portends to be the best episode yet. You can find it on their app and on Facebook. Highly recommended!
Retired Magistrate here: Just got a call from my 87 year old neighbor whose son was killed three years ago, 2 days after Christmas. Also, this past year she has been taking care of her 54 year old daughter who was in treatment for aggressive breast cancer. Understandably this time of the year is very hard for her so I try to make it special for her.
About a week ago I took over a large bag of gifts for her and left it on her door step: a painting I did of a young woman dressed in Victorian garb, a snow globe that lights up, cookies, candy and other goodies. Her phone has been out for a week so she was not able to call; she was thrilled and sounded so happy. Her daughter is finished with the chemo treatments and doing well and my neighbor actually sounds at peace with everything this year.
What is my point in telling you this? It is caring about each other that really matters and shows CHRIST’S love in this dark world. Small acts of kindness can bring joy to others and to you also. Let CHRIST’S light shine through you.
I was also thinking today about what people must have felt on December 24, 1941 only several weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States being thrust immediately into a World War with sons and daughters going off to fight and many never returning. We have faced numerous hard times before and survived by GOD’s grace. Let’s all celebrate the most wonderful gift this old world has ever received, the birth of JESUS.
Dearest Marcia
Thank you for reaching out to your neighbor you sound like a very wonderful person, may God bless you and your family and have a very Merry Christmas.
Ah…that is so sweet.
Merry Christmas!
Amazing an 87 year old is caring for her 54 year old…wow…you just never know what card you are dealt..
Truth. And seventy-something olds STILL trying to witness and show fifty year old the righteous way. sigh…
Merry Christmas Sundance, Admin and all you fellow Treepers ! 🙏🥹
A timely piece, Sundance. Thank you.
I am spending Christmas alone as hubby had to go back to his family due to his father in process of passing away – he had a stroke about two weeks ago and is steadily going down hill. I knew it was close because he started talking about people from the past who have died…. I didn’t have the heart to tell my husband that the time was coming… my mum did the same before she died. Hubby just visited his Dad in hospital and apparently his kidneys are shutting down.
Anyway, feeling a bit blue right now.
All of these things shall give you experience that will bless others along the way. I just wanted you to know I saw your message and I’m hopeful you will feel a sparkle of Christmas during this difficult time. My best to you on this Christmas Eve.
🙏🏻
You are not alone.
Bravo
I am not ‘anxious’, fearful, or worried about the future.
I await with anticipation seeing my Lord, and take each step with joy in my heart, and a spring in my step.
With every encounter with others, I look for opportunities to put a smile on their face, and usually succeed.
Christmas blessings to all.
Merry Christmas, ya’ll. Praying for God’s blessings for everyone in our Treehouse.
Thank you for a place of freedom to share our love of Christ, Sundance.
Thank you and Merry Christmas. God Bless.
So spot-on. Exactly what I needed. Thank you. Wishing you Christmas joy.
I have always said it is about presence. Presents was the slight of mouth.
Modesty is needed.
Jealousy and greed need to go.
Be the change you want to see.
Deny evil your time, talent and treasure.
Make them hurt before they make you hurt. Either way you are losing it all.
The social contract is broken and needs to be renegotiated through our actions.
Hard choices. Even though the bird does not sow it continues to reap.
Thank you Sundance for encouraging all of us in the Hope we have in Jesus
It was/is very heartwarming to read ALL you just wrote. Nothing can happen to us on this earth, that OUR SAVIOR that was born so many years ago, can not take care of. What can it all matter, when we look forward to the time when Jesus and God Himself will dwell among us.
Merry Christmas Sundance.
Merry Christmas to ALL who reads this!
Thank you for this encouraging post and reminder of the magnificence of the incarnation of the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.
In spite of all in the news, Merry Christmas !!
Wow. Beautiful essay. I needed that. Thank you. Sending love and respect to you.
The Lark Ascending – Ralph Vaughan Williams
‘The Lark Ascending’, inspired by a poem of the same name by George Meredith, was begun shortly before the outbreak of the First World War but not completed until Vaughan Williams returned from active service in France. This performance is by Nicola Benedetti with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrew Litton.
Sundance,
Thank you for this. I finally let out all of my pent up anger, frustration, rage, and a whole host of other emotions out this evening. It just took one of my sons to put me over the edge. He is the youngest of three, and he was having a meltdown over the most simplest of things when I just let loose, and I yelled at him for no reason at all. After I cooled off, I went and apologized to him because I was in the wrong.
Failure is everywhere among the leadership class, and it is both disheartening and frustrating, because God has put us on His earth to do amazing things in his Glory.
Our leaders in government at all levels have failed us. (Corruption, fake elections, spending money we don’t have)
Our leaders in the financial sector have failed us. (Federal Reserve, Treasury, Fortune 500)
Those who report the news have failed us. (Gaslighting, lying, and not being truthful)
The medical community has failed us. (Pushing the jab, masking, and other crap that has no medical benefit)
Our food industry has failed us. (Chemicals and sugar in foods that are making us sick and killing us)
Law enforcement has failed us. (FBI, CIA, et al)
The rule of law and the impartial system of justice have failed us. (SCOTUS, DOJ, et al)
And our leaders in the worldwide Christian church have been the biggest failures. (Closing down churches and not allowing people to come and worship our King)
The only person who hasn’t failed us is our great Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who was sent by Our God to save us. “For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son; that those who believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Tonight, tomorrow, and the next day, I will celebrate the birth of Jesus with my wife, three awesome boys, and our extended family. I will reflect on what His birth and life means to me.
At the same time, I will pray for our leaders who have failed us. I cannot control any of their actions or inactions. I can only pray to give them wisdom and guidance to honor the God who created them.
Merry Christmas to all.
God Bless,
Brian in PA
We failed as well, letting all this corruption to continue. I don’t say this to lay guilt on us all even though “all have sinned, and fall short of the Glory of God”. Thankfully God is full of Mercy and Grace! We need each other, but most importantly we need the Lord in our lives! He was born for us, He died for us and His Spirit now lives within us. He still has a plan, and is still in control (despite what we feel right now!).
I copied this article and pasted to my desktop and will be referring to it from time to time for encouragement and peace. As I approach threescore and ten, my mind is ever more eager to contemplate the miracle of the Incarnation and our Triune God’s blessing and peace extended to the shepherds and to all mankind 2,000 years ago. Talk about the Christmas Spirit that was manifest that night! Hallelujah!! He was born and He is risen!!!
God bless you Sundance for sharing God Values with all the wonderful people here at CTH.
We thank you for a refuge to lay down and be with like minded Friends here that share the Love of FREEDOM! God bless you all and may you have a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year. 🎆🎊
Thank you, Sundance. A blessed Christmas to all my fellow treepers. You are truly a refuge.
We’ve had a couple of days of bad weather – minus 6 degrees, blustery winds, a little snow – but not the worse weather I’ve seen in my lifetime. Many churches in my area canceled Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services. I never remember so many cancellations due to weather. Fortunately, my church did not cancel services. We had a beautiful candlelight service that was the perfect way to spend Christmas Eve.
My newest grandchild, just a month old, has been visiting. When I hold her in my arms, I am reassured that God has not given up on humanity yet. Therefore, I will not give up either.
Merry Christmas, Sundance, and God Bless you and all who gather here.
The joy of the LORD is my strength.
Listen to Handel’s Messiah
this Christmas.
Watch “The Chosen”.
Merry Christmas, Sundance, crew, Treepers!
Well done, well said. Hearts unfolded. The practical world is distant tonight. Thank you for preparing and delivering this “Soul food supper”. The Gift is the Message. May God give to everyone, tonight; dreams with messages, the power of the testimonies announced in Christmas hymns and carols, an old friend and a neighbor you haven’t met yet, an Angel in disguise and a handful of needy strangers. I am alone tonight and yesterday and tomorrow; no decorations, no meals with others but I am contented, grateful for the continued peace and safety and the quietness of animals. I’m here because Jesus did what He was sent to do. I’m here to do what I was sent to do. Let’s get on with it. Roll out the miracles, heal them in the streets, sing His promises and pray for salvation for the passerby. Time is short.
This picture is kind of denoting a particular religion I an not in tune with,
This one would be better,
Very inspiring thoughts particularly in this Christmas moment.
But also the sentiments are necessary and valuable in day to day living and should not be allowed to slip away as the season recedes.
TY!!! Jesus! Lord of lords & King of kings! May THY will be done on earth as it is in Heaven! ALL Glory to God!
We do not exchange gifts in our family. We just celebrate each other and Christ.
The greatest gift was wrapped in swaddeling clothes.
Thanks – I needed that.
A believer, but not very religious in an institutional sense, I enjoy watching Christmas concerts on TV from Belmont University, and other colleges around the US.
This year, I can’t find any on television. Just one crappy pop Xmas show on PBS. And the Cat in the Hat singing about Christmas as “The Biggest Party of the Year.”
Yeah. That’s it. A big party. And “Tis the Season for Hashtag Giving.” (with a little something for the deer).
What are we celebrating this year?
Happy Schwanza.
Thank you, Sundance! We need to read and remember this every day.
Sundance, my sincerest wishes for you and your family to have a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for all you do. You help me to have peace in this turbulent time. And you chose my favorite Christmas song.
Christ’s Peace brother.
To all Treepers,
Many thanks for keeping me company… & my sanity in check 😉!
Have a wonderful Christmas!
