There is a great deal of interest in the outcome of the purchase of Twitter. However, it is worth tempering any expectations and taking a wait and see approach.
Is Musk independent? Does anyone really know?
From what my own research indicates, and assuming Mr Musk is entirely independent minded, I think it may take any “independent” Musk team quite a while to find out exactly what the internal networks of Twitter are all about.
My guess is, there are background connections in the Twitter code [compatibility datasets to align with other (shadow?) networks] that will take a long time to unravel.
I stand by my original inclination: Twitter is to the U.S. Govt, what TikTok is to China.

Anyone whose been following this thread knows that Twitter’s “business model” has never made any sense. Mr. Musk has to know this better than anyone and I doubt he believes in a magic as a business strategy.
The original premise is severely flawed. Sundance wsa attempting to correlate his data rates with a single server to a dedicated server cluster that has AI load balancng. Not the same beast at all and any who continue this analysis based on that flawed theory are barking up the wrong tree.
It’s not just the IT infrastructure cost, it’s all the labor and overhead expenses. When Google and FB control the ad market it’s hard to make your nut every month with just advertising, never mind make a profit. If you’re big enough to sell your own advertising you need the people and infrastructure to do it.

There has to be some moderation though. You can’t have people issuing death threats or posting video of themselves committing murder and just let it go.
Musk already said clearly that Twitter would abide by the laws of each country. Obeying the law is straightforward moderation–but the addition of a Moderation Council gets into uncertain territory.
Other than complying with the law, I’d personally not want speech curtailed, not that Musk has asked me.
I fear that major advertisers will be used by leftists and the deep state elements of our government to squeeze Musk into bending the knee to some degree of leftist control (albeit hidden behind advertising pressure).

The left has succeeded with normalzing censorship and erasing even the memory of what free speech looks and feels like. So many folks I know are actually uneasy at the idea of unmoderated speech. Feels like we are forgetting how to be a free people.

I was banned from twitter in July/Aug 2019 for 3 Plainly Written Clauses of the US Constitution I posted a few times, and they selected the post from March 2019.
Somehow, I don’t expect someone backing the Constitutional Punishments for High Crimes to be exonerated on Twitter.
But I suppose that, in due time, we shall see!

Trump and his team have built Truth Social into a platform that is considerably better than Twitter, and now more popular. He doesn’t need them anymore. Musk bought a property that suffered terrible damage due to many years of gross mismanagement, and now he’s got a lot of cleaning up to do if he wants to someday take it public again and earn a profit. Twitter now has competition and plenty of it.
I wish Musk all the best on his purchase, but I have no idea why he agreed to pay such a premium price for control of it. There’s no way it’s worth $54.20 a share! It was trading for considerably less than that when it was delisted. (Was he really just playing a “420 joke?”) I think that Donald Trump is a lot more savvy with his billions than this man is – and of course, he earned them in a completely different way. (As in: “he actually earned them …”)
If the employees got $54.20 a share for their stock options, they have no cause for complaint. 💰

I totally agree with Sundance on this one. We have had smoke filling our air passages for so long it would be wise to be suspicious of what is going on at Twitter, at the least. For my part, I don’t think I will ever see social media as a good place to debate political issues. For some reason, I just can’t imagine Plato and Aristotle having a chat about metaphysical truths on Twitter.
Just imagine what it will do for Truth Social if and when Trump runs for POTUS again. It will grow exponentially because even the liberals will join just to make asses of themselves. In fact, they already are.

I think there is a legal issue here for PDJT. If he were bring his very powerful personal brand over to Twitter and if TruthSocial was in any way damaged by this move (eg people abandon TS and move over to follow him on Twitter) –he could potentially be legally liable for that damage and open to suits from his investors, stockholers of TS.
This is a good point and maybe the cross platform posting will take care of this problem.

Twitter is like almost all other social platforms–a tower of babble. Just a means to scream into the void.
If Elon is to succeed, Twitter eventually becomes something entirely different if it wants to survive and thrive. And that will need revamp of the entire technology stack- from infrastructure to code. There is no other way. The thing is likely unsalvagable in its present form.
And this is entirely doable because (a) the technology exists today that can make it a much more extensible platform (new Twitter =Twitter +FB+WhatsApp+Google etc) and (b) crack software guys want to work with Elon because of the clarity of purpose he brings. The guy is landing rockets on an X! This is relatively less complicated.
If this is Paul Ryan, Bret Bair, Karl Rove Republican representation types on the moderation board, we will be in worse shape.
