According to The Boston Globe, officials in Martha’s Vineyard are holding an emergency meeting to deal with the crisis of 43 illegal alien arrivals, including one four-year-old child. The group arrived via a chartered flight dispatched by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
According to state representative Dylan Fernandes, “when you look at the limited housing options on Martha’s Vineyard, as I’m sure many of the folks here are aware, it’s likely we’re going to need an off island location.” As noted by the Globe …”a Zoom meeting has been scheduled for emergency management officials from the island along with people from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to discuss the next step for the immigrants.”
(Boston Globe) […] Fernandes also strongly condemned DeSantis and Governor Greg Abbott of Texas for sending the migrants to the Vineyard.
“To use women and children as political pawns is cowardice. Governor DeSantis is a coward,” Fernandes said. “Their communication on this, Governor DeSantis’s on this, was to jump on Fox News and beat his chest about how tough he is on immigration. It’s inhumane. It’s depraved.”
DeSantis defended the move in remarks to reporters on Thursday during a briefing at Northwest Florida State College.
“Every community in America should be sharing in the burdens. It shouldn’t all fall on a handful of red states,” he said. Other states “don’t like it as much when you get just a small, small, small amount compared to what these folks have dealt with in Texas and in other states.”
Florida’s message, DeSantis said, is that it’s not “a sanctuary state.”
“Now what would be the best is for Biden to do his damn job and secure the border,” he said.
Susan Church, a prominent immigration lawyer based in Cambridge, said a team of attorneys in Massachusetts is working with advocacy groups including the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice to interview the migrants and determine whether they’d be eligible for victims of crimes visas, based on reports they were coaxed into getting on a plane under the pretext that their paperwork would be expedited.
“They were duped in to getting on to the plane,” said Church, former chair of the New England Chapter of American Immigration Lawyers Association. “This is akin to kidnapping.” (read more)
While the apoplexy and pearl-clutching from the condescending and sanctimonious democrats is political fuel for ridicule, at the end of the day these transports of illegal economic migrants, illegal aliens, is not a solution.
Desperate times do call for desperate measures, and we desperately need to see the southern border secured, immediately. If the transports lead to backlash from Democrat officials and politicians, and that hypocrisy leads to facing the reality of the border crisis created by Joe Biden, then perhaps something positive can come from this approach.
I find myself torn between seeing this as a political gimmick yet understanding that some shift in the national narrative is needed. If this approach delivers that shift, if more people wake up to the border crisis, then something positive could be gained. However, at the end of the day these unlawful migrants are people.

Abbott SHOULD have declared an Invasion on the Southern Border, as he and every Border State Governor have full authority to do, and as KL has vowed to do on day one.
RD has said he will sign an “interstate compact” with AZ, should KL win in Nov.
Such a compact would allow KL to request NG troops from Florida, or other non-border States that signed such a compact, so such troops could assist in the effort by deploying to the border State.
This would both “share the burden”, give non-border States a chance to contribute resources to securing the border, and enable drawing on different military specialties for the effort.
The NG troops will be charged with : locating and destroying traffickers smuggling tunnels, and KL said she “isn’t concerned if the tunnels are occupied at the time”. In other words NG troops should not be put at risk to “clear” the tunnels, prior to demolition.
And, the NG troops will be assigned to complete the border wall.
She says she anticipates the Federal govt will fight her efforts, and she is fully prepared for it. Actually, I think she is looking forward to it.
There is no doubt more to her plans for securing the border, which she has not made public.

Agree. Every single one of them need to go. I don’t care if they’ve been here for 20 years or more, own a home and a business. I dont even care if they’re a congresswoman from Minnesota or a supposed refugee who lied, they need to go.
Integrity is something that a dollar bill cannot buy. If you’d break the law to get here, you don’t have the character to stay here.

At the same time, let’s clean out all government databases. There’s no excuse for our taxpayers dollars going to illegals but neither is there a reason for 1.7 billion in covid money going to foreign nationals…into Pelosi’ bank account too…. Social security going to deceased. ….Disability going to those who just don’t want to work….ad infinitum.

On vacation in Cabo last year we met a young man who’d been deported from Arkansas after living there since 8yrs old. His mother was still in the US. He had no accent, surreal. I admit to having mixed feelings, and a healthy dislike for his mother.
Mims, in my mind, humanity is teaching these people how to get on their own two feet. That can be done in their own country.
Theyre going to have to be responsible for their birth rate number 1. You and I did not create those babies but they’re driving these people into poverty.
Secondly, they need to organize in their countries ….just as we’re doing here and get a government in place that represents and works for them.
Kicking them around the world and making these people someone else’s problem is not the solution. It actually solves nothing.
Teaching Self responsibility is the kindest humanitarian act there is in the long term .
Oh I completely agree. I’m very much against illegal immigration. I empathize with their plight, which is different than sympathy.
However, coming here illegally and expecting Americans to support them is wrong in every way. I want the border secured and closed.
I despise the left using these people as a political gimmick. Their hypocrisy is so apparent in this story.
And my mixed feelings about that young man were mostly anger that his mother didn’t go with him. She should not still be here.
If we can get some law and order going, hopefully she’ll be found and deported.

Mexico (and the rest of the countries south of it) would have the best chance of future cultural, finance, science, educational success if they scrapped Spanish and Portuguese over 2 generations and concentrated on English language skills. Young Icelanders and Dutch and Danish citizens speak English better than kids in US government schools….. yet if you go down to most parts of Mexico or further south, not nearly as much proficiency. Thus fewer tourists and businesses want to go there (of course , there are the violent cartels there too). Imagine if the Netherlands or Germany was south of the US instead of Mexico, we would be there every other weekend! Conversely, if Mexico was in Europe, would you visit?
The illegal aliens are being told the border is open, I’m not sure about knowingly breaking any laws. The democrats are the one using them as political pawns, and I applaud the border states sending them to sanctuary cities.

What do you suppose was Sundance’s intent in including the statement that they “are people”? I’ve never said anything positive about illegal immigration. I’m all for mass and complete deportation, but when I write that or speak it out loud I feel like I’m missing something spiritually significant.
I feel like I’m forgetting God’s kingdom. I don’t know what to think most of the time. I’m conflicted, so that’s how I took what Sundance wrote. Sundance sounds conflicted and I think he may not be entirely confident in how the illegals’ humanity should play a part in how this plays out, but that it is important to consider.
Even in people’s responses here, I don’t hear or sense ugliness towards illegals. I hear open honest concerns based on our experiences. I don’t know how my keeping at the forefront of my thoughts that these illegals are human, but I trust that it is important none the less and that maybe a little prayer can help.
I hate the neighborhood where I live. 95%Hispanic and little English spoken. No patriotism. I don’t care if these people just want a better life. Our country needs more than that if we are to survive. The illegals don’t seem to care about our culture or country and what they are doing is not a religious/Christian movement. Despite that, I pray that I remember they are human and respond to what’s happening with God’s hand guiding me. I pray His will be done. I wish I knew more clearly what that will is.
I heard in a speech on migration and I forget where, that the ones that make it here are the ones that could most likely bring about real change in the places from which they are coming. Send them back enforce the border and we might see positive change in the 3rd world shit holes that supply never ending illegals.

I have no sympathy for them. They were not forced to come to the United States; they came of their own volition. If they drown trying to cross the border that is too bad but it is their fault for trying to enter this country illegally. I have no sympathy. I wish someone would drop me off on Martha’s Vineyard…love to live their. And, yes, Obama could employ a great deal of them keeping up his grounds and house. Hypocrites.
