I checked the course catalog for the US History courses offered at my granddaughter’s high school. It appears that the required full-year US History course starts with the industrial age and comes to current times. The course you and I took with a strong emphasis on the founders is an advanced placement elective. The required government course integrates early US history but is one semester and at the 9th grade level.
There is a one semester elective “Race Relations in America: The History & Impact of the Atlantic Slave Trade.”

Seems like this has been going on for a long time, people don’t even understand our Republic form of government. As if it was formed without substantial thought or reason. It is bad, people don’t understand why each state has 2 senators. Or maybe some do and just want California, New York and a few others to dictate to the entire country. And of course they have tried to eliminate the validity or the good of our history by dismissing it as the work of old slave owning white guys.
High school geometry has been trashed, limiting proofs to a few weeks. When I took geometry, if you weren’t doing a proof, then you weren’t doing homework.
I know not everyone can homeschool, but it sure seems like that’s what you need to do if you’re concerned about the content of your child’s education. There are some excellent curricula out there.
On an aside, I tutor. I asked one high school student to write out a list of what he thinks the government should be responsible for. These are some of his responses: health care, education, public transportation, making sure everyone has sufficient food/shelter/clothing. This teen spends more than 40 hours per week playing video games, is scared to leave his house because of COVID/guns/other bad stuff, and doesn’t know how to make change. He’s really smart in so many respects, but I don’t see how he’s going to hold down a job. Fortunately, most of my students give me hope. They are hard-working, engaged youth.

Manufacturing Plants Aren’t Just Mysteriously Getting Burned Down In The United States, It’s Happening Around The World…

As Americans tackle accelerating inflation, skyrocketing gas prices and food and baby formula shortages following the manufactured COVID pandemic, manufacturing plants are mysteriously being burned down on a regular basis.
In 2021, Resilinc, a leading global supply chain monitoring and risk management firm that has been tracking disruptions at manufacturing plants for over a decade, was prompted to create a WarRoom to track the sudden uptick of supply chain disruptions.
The company issued 11,642 to alerts notifying its, which include today’s largest multinational organizations, about supply chain disruptions; an 88 percent increase in supply chain disruptions in a single year.
North America experienced the 5,417 supply chain disruptions, more than any other developed nation, followed by Europe which saw 2,838 and Asia, 2,128.
Manufacturing plants aren’t accidentally getting destroyed in the United States. Destructive fires like those raging across in food factories across the United States have suspiciously become commonplace around the world.
More factory fires occurred in 2021 than any year in recorded history.
Nearly a quarter of the supply chain disruptions globally were attributed to manufacturing plants being set aflame, according to exclusive data compiled from Resilinc’s EventWatch monitoring database.
“Resilinc issued 1,946 Factory Fire alerts in 2021, an increase of 129 percent year-over year,” Resilinc communications director Melissa Gieringer said in a statement issued to the Gateway Pundit.
The company attributes the sudden cause of fires to labor shortages caused by the pandemic.
“The uptick is due mostly to gaps in regulatory and process execution as well as shortage of skilled labor in warehouses. Factory fires are contributing to record breaking supply shortages. If a warehouse goes down for a month due to a factory fire the trickle-down effect is huge,” Gieringer said. ” If no one is checking that the fire sprinklers work, or if there are flammable materials – like cardboard – left on the floor because there is not enough staff available to clean up, it can turn into a bad scenario.”
“Take this example: In October 2020 a fire broke out at a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Japan; it took three days to put the fire out and when the dust settled, production lines were estimated to be down a minimum of six months,” she continued. “As a result, procurement teams – from the hi-tech to automotive sectors – were scrambling. The price of some chips went from $5 to $110 in a matter of days and ultimately cost sourcing organizations tens of millions of dollars. A risk assessment survey later revealed that the site did not have anyone checking the automatic sprinkler or fire suppression system. This fire also contributed to the current chip shortage that is significantly impacting carmakers.”
While Reslinc correlates the uptick in fires at manufacturing plants to a global workforce shortage, more factories have been mysteriously set aflame in the United States than any other country.
Workers around the world were forced to leave work when the pandemic hit amid COVID lockdowns and vaccine mandates and have yet to return to factories. But there have been more than twice as many fires at manufacturing plants in the U.S. than any other country.
“Among the countries that saw the highest number of factory fire alerts [in 2021] were the United States (425), India (159), Germany (122), South Korea (117), Mexico (97), the United Kingdom (78) and Japan (72),” Resilinc reports.
Resilinc has yet to release data showcasing the number of fires at manufacturing plants throughout 2022, but the Gateway Pundit has compiled a list documenting the number of major fires that have erupted at food industry facilities to date in 2022:

(GOOD) HISTORICAL FICTION A GOOD WAY TO LEARN
Schools have quit teaching as much history as they used to, and replaced what remains with leftist propaganda.
Even when schools taught more history, it was not enough to establish a functional understanding of our culture and heritage.
Unless you are a dedicated reader, straight history may be a chore. Good historical fiction is a way to enjoyably absorb some history with characters living through it in context.
SOME RECOMMENDATIONS
(These are some of the best writers I’ve found, all dedicated to accuracy. I’m hoping you mention some great authors I’ve missed, and save me from awful modern TV shows.)
Bernard Cornwell – British war history with stunningly, and accurately, described combat sequences.
– The Sharpe series: A British soldier’s battles and rise to Captain, but really about the Duke of Wellington’s career leading up to Waterloo. Cornwell’s non-fiction Waterloo is by far the best description of Waterloo, better than historians.
– Grail Quest series: about an English long bow archer. Includes great descriptions of Crecy and Agincourt.
– Starbucks Chronicles: Four American Civil War novels.
– Last Kingdom/Saxon Stories series: the struggle of Saxon Kingdoms invaded by Norsemen. From Ivar the Boneless and the actual King Arthur onwards.
Patrick O’Brian – British naval warfare against Napoleonic France. The best historical author I have ever read. Does a great job of describing sailing era combat. And, incredible details of those times casually part of the character’s lives. Characters are also NOT modern people reacting as modern people living long ago.
Robert Harris – Some great Roman era novels and WWII era novels. “Munich” would be a good choice as we enter the fifth month of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
John Le Carre – British spy agency’s Cold War struggles with Russian spies. Cynical, insightful, very British, and realistic. Good portrayal, I think, of British and American spies jockeying for advantage.
Colleen McCullough – Her politics are crap, but she does a really great job with her six book series bout the transition of Rome from Republic to Empire. Very well researched and detailed, an obvious labor of love.
The first book “First Man In Rome” begins with Marius around 100BC. The young Julius Caesar was a Marius protege.
Especially pertinent today, as America teeters on the edge of transitioning from a Republic to a tyrannous empire.
Lots of other good writers, but this makes a decent first post.
When I was very young Gone With the Wind first got me interested in the Civil War era. I think a lot now about how we are going through something similar, in that the world in which we were raised is also “gone with the wind.” Intentionally so.
I also liked Taylor Caldwell books for historical fiction.

But….but………what about Allan Eckert? His historical novels are some I have enjoyed the most.
The best book I ever read on the Vietnam war is a novel by Karl Marlantes called “Matterhorn.” Marlantes is a highly decorated Marine who served in Vietnam and was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions during the Battle of Hill 44. Marlantes spent 30 years writing this book.
Another great novelt that has relevance today is “We the Living” by Ayn Rand, which depicts events in Russia at the time of and in the years after the Bolshevik takeover. In her Foreward, Rand says the book isn’t about Soviet Russia, but about “Man against the State.”
While I generally favor reading history of the non-fiction variety, I also realize that many people don’t, and that’s where historical fiction finds its role. Topics like the Vietnam War and the Russian Revolution are highly complex events that occurred over many years, involved huge numbers of people and spread over large areas. Boiling down the primary messages about these events to their effects on the novels’ protagonists, in Marlantes case Lt. Mellas, and in Rand’s case Kira Argounova, is an effective and entertaining way of teaching history – if it is done well.
I agree – I have read these authors and they always make me look up something to get a little better understanding. O’Brian did a marvelous job weaving biological and physical science into the stories.
