What is quite disingenuous are the claims I’ve read from ethanol proponents that increasing the percentage blended into gasoline has no impact on the market price for corn or other.

To make the equation worse, it takes energy equivalent to 3 quarts of gasoline to make 4 quarts of ethanol. (0.75 GGE).
Extremely wasteful of energy but the Feds cover the cost of energy used for producing ethanol with our tax subsidies.
Even worse a gallon of ethanol produces only about 80% of the energy that a gallon of gasoline does. So when you put that gallon of ethanol in a car – fuel mileage drops significantly.
In other words , the nation would see a net savings of energy by never producing the ethanol fuel in the first place.

A good essay on “common sense” from the Ticker Guy. I particularly hate it too, when politicians have the nerve to attach the phrase to some law they wish to pass which abrogates my freedom.
I live in a very safe area. Were I to move to an area where plenty of help were not immediately available if someone were to attempt to gain entry to my home to do me harm, it would be important to me to have a reliable means of defense. It’s not as if I could repel a large man by threatening him with tae kwon do.

The article by Robert Hunter in today’s American Thinker got me thinking about Science Fiction alternate history stories.
Each key Hunter assertion about Russian military superiority requires changing facts in our present universe.
Hunter ignores, or disbelieves, what’s gone on in Ukraine, and what it reveals about Russian military capabilities.

Here, Hunter has his best possible speculation, if he is implying that Putin would nuke European cities in response to a NATO intervention in Ukraine.
It works only if NATO does not nuke Russian targets in response, which he blithely assumes will not happen.
The real fantasy stuff is dumb assumptions about Russia’s conventional warfare superiority.
“It would take years to build up NATO’s arsenal to the point at which it could successfully challenge Russia on its own terrain.”
Ukraine’s effective resistance to the Russian invasion, and, Russia’s numerous leadership, strategic, doctrinal, tactical, equipment, logistics, technology and logistics difficulties demonstrate that it doesn’t take anywhere near NATO’s existing military capabilities to bloody Russia badly.
“It is doubtful that NATO could achieve air superiority over Eastern Europe.”
Russian pilots get half the flying hours US pilots get. They get no large scale combat practices like our Red Flag events, which NATO forces participate in.
Russian pilots get no practice with large formation, closely timed precision attacks, like our US Navy aircraft carrier wings execute.
“Any aerial campaign over Ukraine would turn into a bloodbath for allied pilots. Lacking air superiority, NATO would be forced to achieve victory against the Russian Army in ground combat. That would involve sending tens of thousands of soldiers into a meat grinder in which the odds favor the Kremlin.”
Hunter’s assumption can’t be based on numerical superiority. The US has almost twice the military aircraft of Russia and China combined, plus a distinct edge in aircraft superiority. Combined with superior pilots and large air formation training, it’s difficult to see how Russia could gain “air superiority”.

The idea that a Russian army with lots of poorly trained conscripts, low quality NCOs, clumsy command and control, and inferior equipment defeats a better trained, better equipped, army with recent combat experience is ludicrous.
Plus, Russia has already lost something like a fourth or a third of its better tanks and other armored vehicles to the less numerous, more poorly equipped Ukrainians.
American Thinker often posts well thought out and supported articles. This isn’t one of them.

Retired Magistrate here: Just got back from an excursion into rural Delaware County, Ohio. The Winter Wheat looks very good; fields are planted and the corn is up-most places about 2 to 4 inches high. Some beans planted, but mostly corn.
I have seen a lot of fertilizer tankers and farmers can still get diesel for their tractors, it just costs a lot more along with the fertilizer. Business at gun stores is way up, factories around here are hiring and fast food restaurants are begging for help. The only difference now is that the real estate market has really cooled off. Realtors are now having Open Houses again and housing prices are being reduced; first time I have seen that in months. Gas prices are high-$4.79 per gallon but people are still out enjoying the lovely Summer weather.
Of course this could all change overnight, but right now things look pretty normal. It is all going to depend on what State, County and Township you live in. It will also depend on whether or not you have a Sheriff who actually took his/her oath seriously and will uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights, especially the First, Second and Fourth Amendment.
