Earlier today Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation banning abortion after 15 weeks of gestation. “This will represent the most significant protections for life that have been enacted in this state in a generation,” DeSantis said as he signed the bill at an evangelical church in the city of Kissimmee.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis was joined by pro-life advocates and community leaders to sign HB 5, the Reducing Fetal and Infant Mortality Act, to protect the lives of Florida’s most vulnerable by prohibiting all abortions after 15 weeks of gestation. HB 5 represent the most significant protections for life in Florida’s modern history. (MORE)
Wow. The coexist sign.
Awesome sign. That is making the Liberal Loons heads explode.
Sticking the Left’s hypocrisy right back in their faces with a flair of Alinsky.
Love it!
That’s a real governor.
His actions say he’s ok with abortion. I find that surprising.
I, as well.
Or alternately, his actions say he is pragmatic in pushing for a bill that can pass…. Were Republicans pro slavery when they voted for the Three Fifths Compromise?
There weren’t any Republicans or Democrats when the Constitution was written. Political parties didn’t exist until after the ratification.
And you are right about that. But people had already chosen sides on the slavery issue. And the leaders from the north saw that the compromise would hold the country together at least for a time. So he still made a good point
The war wasn’t about slavery. It was about taxes. Read Lincoln’s First Inaugural Address where he plainly says that he will not touch slavery, but will go to war for taxes. He ignored the Organic Act of 1789 that placed the Declaration of Independence into federal law along with 9 of the 13 state ratification laws that said the states can be independent when the federal government becomes tyrannical.
Baby steps are better than no steps
(Literally, and figuratively (o:)
Though killing is killing a half developed baby. A mother’s womb should be the safest place there is.
The imperfect man can never produce a perfect system/government .
For today.. Give thanks for a tiny battle that was won.
When you apply that reasoning to wearing Fauci’s masks, are you therefore willing to accept and agree to this: that for the rest of your life, you will be wearing the mask wherever and whenever Fauci says to wear it? The battle of the masks has only been in our face for two years, so I’m sure that the baby steps, the tiny battles that have been “won” regarding forced mask-wearing are perfectly fine within such reasoning. Baby steps.
Hope the dead babies (and God) don’t mind the reasoning.
The ugly realities we are living in are one thing but accommodating them by such reasoning shouldn’t be seen as a win – in my opinion.
Agreeing to what the opposition wants (in the matter of killing babies) and then calling it a win is no different than what we complain about what the rinos are doing. So move over, Turtle McConnell.
Don’t bait and switch me and expect me to consider you sane.
He just saved 1000s of lives and you’re still talking chit.
Are you saying that Desantis shouldn’t have done this, or that Florida’s Congress shouldn’t have passed this legislation? Instead maybe they should have outlawed abortion altogether and then immediately been given a federal injunction preventing their legislation from going forward, ending up in federal court where Florida would lose due to the past decisions of the Supreme Court, and then be back to where they were before.
I agree that abortion should be illegal, but a state can’t do that. Not even federal congress could do that without amending the Constitution since the reason that it’s legal now is that the Supreme Court interpreted the Constitution as being such (with a lot of medical assumptions and determinations that the SC allowed room to evolve when the medical science became more accurate as to when life begins).
Florida is doing what it can to fight back and I approve. We have to fight on all angles and fronts just like the left does. We SHOULD push for the needed changes to make abortion illegal nation-wide, but we should also do what we can under the current law to fight it as well.
I will take what I can get in real life. Gov Ron knows what’s realistic and is locking in his victories, one after another. To read here how people are seeing a glass half empty shows that you are willing to lose it all rather than win a huge step.
You get the SC to a 7/9 MAGA ratio and then we can start passing zero tolerance anti abortion bills.
The court erred and abortion is still not in the constitution.
Ok, so let’s assume the SC did make a mistake and interpreted the Constitution wrongly (which I agree they did). You would need a new lawsuit or law to go through the federal court system where the state would lose, and lose again at the appeals court, and then HOPE that the SC decides to take the case under consideration and issue a new opinion that the SC was wrong before and need to correct their mistake (the SC takes only cases it wants to).
In my opinion, hoping that happens is no solution at all, it’s just wishful thinking. The odds of SC judges overturning a past decision like that are no bueno. Now, I think a lawsuit based on new medical science that shows life begins at conception or something similar with data and expert opinions to back that up COULD possibly be something the SC would look at, but again you would need the SC to make that decision as to whether they want to overturn a previous SC decision or not (usually the SC wants to keep the status quo).
Basically, I think there’s only three options of accomplishing the goal: 1) SC decision to overturn their previous decision, 2) Federal Congress amending the Constitution to make the SC decision no longer valid, or 3) Convention of States to amend the Constitution.
We should push all three options but I think we should also do what we can under the current law to make it harder to abort. Don’t put all your (Easter) eggs in one basket. Attack on all fronts. We are strong enough to do so.
You’re a very unreasonable person. You would allow everyone to drown in a submerged car if you knew you couldn’t save them all. That’s the logic I’m seeing here.
And not so tiny…
He just reduced the legal limit for abortion in FL, Sharon.
Used to be 24 weeks .(?) I think.
No it doesn’t, what it does mean DeSantis is doing all what he can do.
Politics is the art of the possible…This law has a much better chance of standing up in court..,.
Right? That is such a stirring symbol of life in the womb!
DD
So simple, even a Liberal woman could understand it…if they weren’t so rabid and focused on themselves.
Far better than the original.
Never did I think I would see this day……………now SCOTUS needs to dump RvW and return the decison to the individual states and the people who vote.
Not the current SCOTUS. They’ll try to not hear any cases on RvW. If they have to hear any, the Republican appointees are chicken sh*yt cowards except for Thomas and Alito and will try to maintain status quo. The DemoCommie (satanic) appointees would probably allow post-birth abortion (infanticide) up to as far as they could get away with..
GB, perhaps I’m wrong, but I’m under the distinct impression they had agreed to hear it this year. I don’t think it’s wishful thinking on my part. I hope not in any event.
Ok I believe I also read that. My prediction still stands though. If they DO hear it, they’ll try hard to not change the prior decision (R v W). Changing it and reverting to a pro-life position would take moral courage and I don’t see any in at least 5 of the 9 justices (the 3 commies plus pedo Roberts and kompromised Kavanaugh)
You know it’s true, sadly.
The states have been chipping away at the ability of people to get abortions lately. Still many bad exceptions in some of these new laws but I consider the abortions banned as “lives saved” and “ground gained” in the first of many battles to come against the satanic abortionists.
Future battles won with new laws enacted in each state can whittle away at the exceptions and push the time period back much further. Reverse incrementalism… Never stop.
Recent laws:
♦ Texas Supreme Court has ruled against abortion providers, effectively ending challenges to the “Heartbeat Bill” which was signed into law on 9/1/21. (3/12/22)
♦ “Family Life Protection Act” in New Hampshire, banning abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy. (1/1/22)
♦ Idaho enacted a law modeled after the Texas “heartbeat” abortion law banning abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy. (3/23/22) (temporarily blocked by ID Supreme Court on 4/8/22)
♦ Arizona law bans most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. (3/27/22)
♦ Oklahoma law banning abortions in all stages of pregnancy. (4/12/22)
♦ And now a Florida law banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. (4/14/22)
I call this moving in the right direction… Not perfect… but continual progression until perfection (or as near as possible).
You’re 100% right, Stillwater. Each state that enacts pro-life legislation gives other red states “precedence” and maybe fosters a bit more moral courage to start the process in their legislatures.
And the people who pay for the vast majority of that entire life-style! It ALL goes together, is connected, seeded, nurtured and harvested for votes, like a farmer harvests a crop. We pay the bills so the farmer politician can harvest for free, the votes of the “crop”! Now, where again, is the true sin?
I am so proud to call this man my Governor. The next President in 2028.
General for the current war.
George Washington didnt run for President.
I wouldn’t mind President in 2024. He’s the man!
I think so too. PDT is just too war weary and scarred. His age is an issue and I want no more Jaredvanka nonsense truth be told. Of course I’ll gladly vote for PDT if nominated.
See the latest Schlicter column about Trump needing a primary to keep him sharp.
Yes
Trump is now agreeing with Biden by saying “what’s going on in Ukraine is genocide”.
I really admire my Governor’s moxie. I wish he would ban all digital voting machines, pass Constitutional carry, set up checkpoints at all entrances to our State to weed out illegals and hard dope( not that hard, been through one in Las Cruces, NM, and we already have Agricultural inspection stations all over N. Florida) Suing Texas and Jim Crow Joe for allowing their Invasion would be great. I also wish he would end the Medical Cannabis Cartel that only benefits the wealthy, emboldens the black market, and turns many of his voters with chronic pain who are trying to escape the clutches of Opiate Medications into unemployable Second Class citizens who cannot even pick up their legally owned firearms.
Not sure he can. This is where things get confusing. The problem with what is going on now is men like Trump have to take the stand they have taken. If BRICS ended up successfully replacing the dollar as a hegemony we are in for quite a ride. That would be felt all over the world with dangerous consequences no doubt.
As rough as that would be, If BRICS fails to get it done we slumber into a very uncertain future. If that happens there will be no way out I am sorry to say. I’m NOT saying if BRICS fails we are screwed. I’m saying if they continue to slow walk us in to complete digital surveillance and tyranny it will be too late. Embrace your fate at that point. That is still several years away before they have us completely locked down.
I want to say this…..Freedom like Life finds a way. But these assholes know it too. This is why they strive for a global effort. We are in uncharted waters and plenty of storms. There’s a better than average chance we face at least one of them soon.
“The future’s uncertain, and the End is always near..”- Jim Morrison Native Son Of The Gunshine State.
Love me some Jim Morrison. “Riders on the Storm.” If things spiral out of control Florida will be ground zero no doubt. One can only hope!
It’s way past time to turn the narrative from women to men……..who is advocating for male birth control? Who is working to teach our young men personal sexual responsibility….instead of converting into women? This entire topic makes my blood boil………all the arguments center on the woman who is “denied the choice” and I’m thinking…where did we as feminists or hell….21st century mothers go wrong……how did we allow/put our daughters into such a difficult position un-educated, unarmed and then we pat them on their heads and tell them we have a fix…….just get rid of it???????…….. and…how do these guys all get off scott free, oblivious and stupid………….and the girl is the one who suffers? Never hear ANYONE out there talking about male birth control or responsibility…..zip nada nothing. It’s always about HER right to an abortion.
parents.
Women are insisting the narrative be about THEM AND THEIR POWER to abort. It’s evil and it’s the goal of feminists.
It is by choice and with glee, that women screech about their right to kill.
There’s no power or benefit in telling men they need to be more responsible. That contradicts the glorification and sheer joy abortion brings to the sexually empowered women who can’t wait to display their control and importance.
I agree that men should care and should have a say regarding the life of their child. They could fight for that. But it’s pretty clear that men are supposed to not have a say in the matter per the “her body, her choice” mantra.
I know many men who were denied fatherhood by b!tches who aborted their children. These are men who stepped up, wanted to take the child and rear it, leaving momsy to “get on with her life.”
So, don’t come here with “oh, the poor, poor wymyn.” A woman who would murder her child when there is a man willing to take it and rear it is nothing but a cold-hearted murderer.
Your government has made de facto, the decision of murdering their unborn children solely to the mother. The father can protest to an abortion all he wants, but has no power in this situation. In today’s world, it’s up to parents to raise their daughters to never consider an abortion to begin with.
And people wonder why hispanic support is growing for Republicans?
Latest Quinnipiac poll shows Hispanic support for the illegitimate occupier in the WH sits at 26%. I don’t put any stock in polls. But I really hope this one is representative of the actuality.
Quinnipiac has almost always favored the Left’s politics, regardless of what it is. So this is significant..
It truly and gratifyingly is.
Abortion should be allowed only in these cases and it should be optional (parents decide):
Is it murder to kill a child in the womb or not? If so, that precious child had no role in its conception. Are you ok with murder? Plenty of mothers have said their child from rape was a great blessing. The mother can adopt it out if needed.
I’m telling the people who say murdering babies because of rape are no better than abortion advocates. The child is alive and beautiful.
I agree with your reasoning. Our young friend was kidnapped , raped, and became pregnant as a result when she was 14 years old, about 30 years ago. She, her mother, and a few of us in a small Christian fellowship in California—were shocked when most of the members of that little church (including some of the elders) came out of the woodwork recommending she get an abortion–because they thought that made sense.…they didn’t come to that because of her desire. THEY thought it made sense.
I’m so glad her infant daughter lived.
How is an unborn child counted when a pregnant woman is murdered? Is the murderer charged with taking two lives? Or one? Or does it depend upon which state in which the murder was committed.
Depends on the state but more states over the years have been considering the unborn child as a person and therefore a double homicide if both mother and child die.
I used to think some of those were good reasons to allow abortion. But abortion kills a human being who has a right to life. Having an abortion because of rape does not erase the pain of rape and in fact could IMHO make it worse by adding the pain of knowing that the life you took was totally innocent and deserved to live.
The bottom line for me is that life is full of many challenges and extremely difficult obstacles. We must trust in God and have faith that He will lead us through the storms.
I have known women, some very close to me, who have had abortions. It never solved the problem and only caused more sadness and pain.
My daughter (adopted) is allegedly the product of a one night stand with a total stranger. I have long suspected something more complicated/sad brought about the pregnancy. Regardless, I am forever grateful for all of her birth mother’s unselfish choices and she is proud of herself for blessing us with her tragedy. Her mother told her to get an abortion. I am so thankful she chose to listen to God instead.
I WISH THEIR WERE SIGNS THAT DEPICTED ADOPTION – it seems like Adoption is dropped from the conversation entirely!! Good people WANT to adopt babies so badly!!! We are currently trying to adopt again – any race, either boy or girl – any child under age 3 in good health. Prayers welcome!! P.S. Keeping birth mothers from doing drugs and alcohol while pregnant is a REAL PROBLEM.
I am so proud of the birth mother that chose adoption!! It IS so rare. It is a brave and selfless act of love.
Key Word: Optional
There are always exceptions.
Think.
Your arrogant and condescending command to “Think” presumes that only your opinion is rational. Try again, but explain in detail your argument.
Sonic boom you are unprincipled. If murdering innocent babies in the womb is wrong, then it’s wrong in all cases. It’s not just wrong some of the time. Either life is sacred it’s not. It’s this type of unprincipled thought that allows evil to reign and murdering babies to completely normalized as it is now.
If more women carried arms, rape could go to zero.
Incest would not, tho.
Incest births are usually the product of rape, statutory specifically.
It would be lessened; but, unless she’s expecting an assault and prepares accordingly, she may still be taken off guard.
Hence, she should have options–just in case.
All women should learn how to shoot and learn some type of effective martial art; but, they should stay the hell out of the military and any profession that requires carrying a gun or manly strength.
Nevertheless, I agree with you; more women should carry.
These exceptions are exactly the cracks through which pro-choice advocates got abortion legalized. Until the cracks are sealed, abortions will continue.
Maybe the abortions will be unwound or stopped in the reverse order from which they were enacted or allowed. Incrementalism in the opposite direction.
Yet it works so well for the left. They’ve gone from legalizing gay marriages to attempting to normale pedophilia in a decade. Incrementalism is quite effective, but conservatism can’t seem to shake the perfectionist mentality and thus, lose ground.
So, if your wife was violently raped and became pregnant, you’d keep that bastard’s kid?
Abort it and make your own.
If your child is born with two heads, you’d be okay with that? Better dead than to live such a fate.
If your wife would die delivering a child, you’d encourage her to have it instead of aborting it and adopting a child?
How can you have a child grow up to learn that his father is also his grandfather?
There are always exception… necessary exceptions.
Think.
I respectfully disagree with your arguments. I believe in God, the Almighty Creator. He is the giver of life…and only He should be the taker of life. Anything else in murder. God opens the womb and closes the womb. God is the author of life.
No. I’d talk it over with my wife. If raped, the child is not guilty. The child can be placed for adoption.
Ever hear of c-section? Women don’t generally die giving birth these days.
There is a set of siamese twins on YT who have two heads. They are pretty girls and married. Your point about two heads falls flat.
Children of incest can also be placed for adoption. I’ve known one or two who were subjected to incestuous advances. The perps are now rotting in jail and, luckily, no children were born of the encounters.
Sonic Boom – “abort it and make your own” – gross. How about “give it up for adoption and don’t pile pain on top of more pain for the poor wife”. “How can you have a child grow up to learn that his father is also his grandfather?” – Again, place for adoption and this is not something that child has to confront until adulthood and maybe never.
2 heads – so you mean conjoined twins? Yes, not the best but ask a conjoined twin if they would rather be dead than attached?
Dying in childbirth – that is a hard one. Certainly a choice I would want to make for myself and not have made for me. I have a friend that was told she would die of cancer if she didn’t abort. She didn’t and so the cancer grew unchecked throughout her pregnancy. And so she ultimately died when her baby was almost two years old. She did not regret her choice.
You are completely oblivious to how sick you sound. “About it and make your own”. Did the child have any role in its conception? Does it deserve to be murdered? Of course not, you are operating from selfishness. Principles are right all of the time, not to be thrown out the window whenever it’s difficult.
I hope you can grasp the concept but based on your posts i’m skeptical.
You keep telling people to “think”. Perhaps you should take your own advice.
No exceptions.
If you hold up two anonymous ultrasounds side by side, you can’t tell the difference between the baby conceived consensually and the baby conceived in rape. They’re both equally human and equally innocent.
The children should never be punished for the sins of the parents.
Good point!
Most women, would not want it and neither would most husbands.
Key word: optional.
Think.
Then they can give the baby up for adoption. Any woman who doesn’t want her baby – either because the baby was conceived through force, abusive relationship or they just don’t want the physical and financial responsibility – adoption is the best choice because both mother and child have life.
Question for those who advocate for abortion due to rape/incest/abuse. Are you okay with that standard of measure? Really? Is it okay if God uses that same standard applied to you? When you stand before Him in heaven, are you okay if He sends you to h@ll because your father was a jerk? Are you okay if he sends your child to h@ll b/c of your bad deeds? You know what —God doesn’t do that! You know why? Because to do so is injustice, and God is a God of justice.
God’s standard applied to the situation above, the baby wouldn’t be killed because of the sins of the father. That baby is a completely separate individual, responsible for him/herself — and NOT responsible or have to pay the penalty for the sins of his father.
Amen
I have a friend who was born with extreme deformities and lives her life in a wheel chair. She would tell you she lives a full and happy life and she’s thankful for her life. Anybody who sits and listens can learn a lot about life and the value of life. The world would be a worse place without her. Abortion of babies with deformities (extreme or not) is murder. And if the mother doesn’t want the baby, there are many families who will adopt the baby and the deformities don’t matter to them.
Lisa, that is true about there being some families that will adopt a child with deformities but we certainly need more of them. There are many children with deformities waiting to be adopted. You can use this search engine to see some sweet babies right now that need parents.
https://www.adoptuskids.org/meet-the-children/search-for-children/search
I firmly disagree.
Abortion is killing plain and simple.
There are no allowances for murder.
Abortion could only exist in a Godless society.
opinion -they are going to try and kill us in the rallys no matter what in 2023.
they have been trying to kill us in every way but directly –
so why not go all out with firestarters just like the abortion issue, just go as hot topic and uncompromising as possible – because who cares, if they want a debate lets give them one.
Governor DeSantis feels the wind of the ‘silent ready’, elevated just like PDJT when he stood for us.
Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt signs pro-life bill protecting the unborn
https://www.rebelnews.com/oklahoma_gov_kevin_stitt_signs_pro_life_bill_protecting_the_unborn
Yeah, 15 weeks to me is still too long to allow but we have a bunch of Rinos in the Florida legislator and they won’t do a full ban so I guess we take what ever we can get at this time of day.
still will piss the communistic nazis off and they may act out of emotion to our advantage
Anything that nudges them off the Deep End works for me.
yep, force them to put their hands on us. then Law of the Land ends it
So you push for a full ban, it gets overturned by courts, and you gain nothing. Unborn continue to be murdered at the current rate but good for you for standing up for your principles. /s
Good!
I do not understand the reasoning that (apparently) brings peace to the mind by concluding that for the first 105 days of in utero life, it’s ok to kill the baby; but from 106 days going forward, it’s not ok to kill the baby. What changes between day 105 and 106?
How is that different than mocking the mask-rules that said you have to wear a mask until you sit down at the table in the restaurant, and then you can take it off?
I suppose it’s along the lines of, “Well, let’s take what we can get.” Fine. But please don’t insult my intelligence by pretending that there’s a difference in killing the baby on day 104 or day 73 and killing the baby on day 108 or day 141.
our laws represent profiteers and not the people any more
lawyers have been our bloodlines arthritis
Knowledge is “conventional” if it involves an arbitrary choice. It is “canonical” otherwise. Fifteen weeks is a convention. Conception is canonical.
There can be no doubt that life begins at conception. The only question is, When does life gain value? Why do we lock away murderers? Because their heads/values make them a danger. Every motive for abortion is a motive for murder, and we must discourage those thought processes.
That said, Lincoln despised slavery from his youth, but in the campaign of 1860, he only argued that the Federal government had a right to regulate slavery in the territories. His Emancipation Proclamation only freed Southern slaves. It took an amendment to the Constitution to free all the slaves. I can take incremental advances, just like Abraham Lincoln, anything that saves lives and evolves our culture, and leads our people away from the mindset of justifying murders and the murderer mindset.
Ban abortion, period. Science tells us that life begins at conception, so every abortion is murder.
.
It’s not as clear as you would prefer.
“Murder” is a form of illegal homicide. It has to be defined as such by a legislature. But, e.g. self-defense is a justificable homicide, and that may well apply to, e.g. a 10-year-old incest victim, or to a woman whose life is at stake from a pregnancy (and may have an obligation also to prior-born children.)
“Life” also applies to sperm and ova. I think you mean, not “life”, but a “new human being”. Even there, conception is not quite right. E.g. some identical twins don’t become “more than one new human being” for two or six days or more.
Concrete absolutist thinking is a good way to get unreasonable and useless laws passed that get struck down by the courts and end up accomplishing nothing good.
.
According to Natural Law and God’s Law, abortion is murder. Man’s law is not counted in this discussion since they are imperfect.
Sperm and the egg are not alive with sentience like you think they are. I hate it when people write up stupid positions and try to defend them. Your position is an invalid comparison logical fallacy.
.
Many living beings are not “sentient”.
.
Wrong, “Preacher”. God’s law supersedes man’s laws. And God said He “knew you before you were in your mother’s womb” so I’m going to go with a human being being physically alive at conception and spiritually alive eternally.
This is good news. I am not what one would call anti abortion or prolife even though I am actually both. I come at this from a different angle. If you don’t like it than leave my state. Go and GTFO and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Thank God for the Gov. MAGA has crafted him and his politics. People like him are needed more than ever.
Is Florida so far into groupthink that those with a different opinion on this subject are not welcome?
Nice.
Not where I am sitting, Ma’am.
we just are so far from each other emotionally. strangers right next to each other. that is why protecting a woman so she has no hard time with an unwanted preganancy, and if she gets pregnant to young she is with a good boy from the area – is so hard to do ….
Don’t care….anything that flushes people out of my state that think this way (abortion rules). Go, shoo, leave…..or stay and see what happens.
I’m ok with that lol. If it all goes to hell I feel much better here. And I shall take my chances here. Go live in NY.
The KY Legislature overturned Lil Andy’s veto of the same bill. As of now, abortions are banned in KY since requirements on providers are forcing the two in the state to shut down.
https://www.westkentuckystar.com/News/State/Kentucky-lawmakers-override-governor-s-veto-of-abo
I like this Bill.
It makes enough sense to actually get thru the hurdles.
And women and even young girls *both* know when they miss 2 or 3 periods in a row that something is definitely up. So there’s no excuses there.
Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly. Gov. DeSantis understands this.
Thank you, Gov. DeSantis.
DeSantis signed the bill that will ruin his chances of becoming president. I would have supported him, but no longer.
How so?
He is overestimating the support for limiting abortion rights.
you got 6 years to have kids at least
“We hold these rights to be inalienable, LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…”
Maybe He is seeking the approval of God and not man? For if he were seeking the approval of man, he would not be a servant of God.
Rolcon alert!!!
Not good enough, but it’s a start. Still progress to be made.
.
Below is a repeat of what I posted on the presidential thread yesterday. What the Florida legislature passed, in a mixed blue/red state, is exactly what we should be pushing for at this time. The complaints about the law not being enough are maddening. Absolutely maddening.
—
Why are Republicans in state after state giving one-issue leftists their issue to shriek about by passing strict anti-abortion laws now? Please don’t tell me that suddenly — when there’s been 50 years since Roe v. Wade — it’s an emergency.
With the panoply of things that need attention… that ARE emergencies…
From GP: Oklahoma’s SB 612, “bans abortion at all stages, except for cases in which the mother’s life is at risk, and does not make exceptions for cases of rape and incest. Abortion providers who violate the new law are subject to a fine of up to $100,000 and 10 years in prison…”
Unreasonable. This kind of thing does not make it easier for Republicans to win elections in blue-red states.
The shortsightedness and stupidity is beyond the pale.
Is there something here that’s just too difficult for some folks to understand?
If conservatives don’t first get firmly into power, the success rate in accomplishing anything useful and permanent re abortion will only reflect the kind of “progress” made since 1973. On balance, this is bad bad bad bad bad strategy that will not end up saving more lives.
And look at where we are on everything else.
.
Majority RED.
Love this guy! ‘Treated a fully born infant like they were just yesterday’s trash…’ — all those women there are probably survivors…hey Hollyweirdo–what business do we have in competing with Hitler’s fantasies of genocide?
I really hope the SCOTUS comes out and knocks both sides of this argument on to their butts… Which would be saying the government has no stake in anything pro or con on this subject.
R vs W was not the worse decision ever, realistically way worse has been decided. It was however the dumbest social fight between two progressive groups the government ever wondered into.
It’s also why the Republican party, as a conservative party, was destroyed from within. The floods of 1950’s and 1960’s FDR lovers jumping ship over this single point of ridiculousness!
Woodrow Wilson described the great progressive age not as a religious overthrow of government at gunpoint, but a required peaceful conquest.
You’re an obvious liberal. I doubt anyone on CTH has a lick of fondness or respect for that leftist Woodrow Wilson. Take a hike.
and these lunatics on the left want to take full-term babies and chuck them into medical waste containers. Some day the “doctors” that perform abortions will stand before a Holy God. I’m convinced there’s a special place in hell for people like that, way worse than regular hell.
what Desantis is saying:
babies forming before 15 weeks can be murdered, no prob.
terminations should only be available to those who have a serious and life threatening complication that is significantly likely to cause death to the mother or baby if the pregnancy continues and there is little to no chance the baby cannot be saved safely, and perhaps to those who seek termination within a few days of conception. Even then, education should be provided to society to discourage it whenever possible and murderer “health care” professionals should be imprisoned for the mass murders they have already committed.
It’s a good start. The heartbeat is detected at 3 weeks. Banning abortion period, is best. Second best is ban at 6 weeks, the time when pregnancy is usually detected.
Sigh, y’already know how I heart this governor. He would trounce any and all comers in 2024. RD, make my dreams come true.
Look at polls. Kamala actually beats DeSantis! But Trump beats Kamala easily. I would like to see Trump run and win in 2024 with DeSantis playing some major roll even if still FL Governor, to raise his profile higher, ultimately netting the Trump endorsement for 2028.
What a contrast against the black face baby-killer Ralph Northam.
People should not be killing babies in the womb or anywhere else for that matter.
Every time I think there’s no hope for this wicked world where people sacrifice babies at the alter of convenience (statistically true), I hear this good news. It does seem the tide is turning.
I am not saying the above from the perspective of self-righteousness. No. I became a grandmother in my mid-30’s. There was one Christian organization that helped – they offered Christian counseling and real help for young single (15/16 yrs old) girls and their families. Real help in the way of a crib, baby supplies, food, encouragement, and hugs. My grandson is an adult with a very full life now. May the Lord bless him and keep him. I was the subject of rejection and a ton of criticism (of course!) for not aborting. No matter. Every single life is precious, no matter how it comes to us. Amen.
Do not the people (women) that are “coexisting” have any rights?
Then, too, there are the rights of the children who are born to women who cannot care for them, end up in perilous positions of being sexually abused by whomever.
Nobody talks about their rights either.
Just the rights of the unborn(!)
Speaking from a secular perspective (which I believe the Christian arguments outmatch any secular ones). Rights are balanced with responsibilities. I have the right to bear arms–but that right also has responsiblities. What responsibilities do the woman & men have for their “right” to have sex outside of marriage. When a child is conceived–is there a responsibility? Does the “right” to have sex outside of marriage come with the “right” to abortion? Or does it come with responsibilities? actions have consequences, and rights have responsibilities.
Women who don’t want or can’t afford babies need to make an effort to not get pregnant. Period. There are so many birth control options available now, including simply not having sex at particular times of the month. The problem is Democrats have brainwashed girls and young women into thinking that abortion is birth control. The Guttmacher site publishes abortion facts, including the reasons why women have abortions. Vast majority were simply careless, they didn’t use birth control, they didn’t bother to try to not get pregnant. I have zero respect for these women.
We are getting closer to the 24-25 week viability demarcation. abortions will continue, if people think that banning abortion medications will work all they have to do is go down to the corner and by some fentynol.
I have no dog in the fight as a seventy five year old male (sadly no life partner – miss her) but I still maintain that interfereing with a woman’s “choice” is not to be tolerated.
Some communist once said that a thousand-mile journey starts with a single step. We may well cover 1000 miles as we march the progressives out of the civilized world.
I applaud this action. I know some of you are unhappy because it still allows abortions up to 15 weeks. This was legislation passing through the Florida House and Senate, not something that DeSantis created as an executive order. If you want Florida to ban all abortions then the legislature needs to do it and DeSantis can sign.
We must stop abortions in this Country, or you can forget about God’s help!
