Never mind what’s to come when we start discussing energy. Germany and others have told the EU they will not shut off SWIFT (the EU equivalent of FedWire) access to Russia. Why not? Because they stupidly shut down their nuclear and coal plants in the belief of “green” and now are ****ed if they cannot buy gas from Russia. This means whatever Putin wants to do, he will do as Europe has no choice but sit back and let him.
Never mind that Biden has waivered anything energy-related when it comes to so-called “sanctions” which is the largest part, of course, of Russia’s exports, thereby guaranteeingthat Putin does not care what Biden does. In other words its all theater; Biden is perfectly fine with Putin invading the Ukraine and indeed it might cover up his son’s (and his) corruption in some form or fashion and so are the Republicans. Who remember McCain over there in Ukraine giving speeches? No? Oh, I do!
Incidentally we are doing the exact same stupid energy-related things here despite having oil, natural gas and coal resources sufficient to last five hundred years, particularly if we use the thorium in said coal to produce energy. We’ve known how to do that since the 1960s and proved it works. I pointed out more than a decade ago exactly how that can be exploited and it would immediately and, for the next FIVE HUNDRED YEARS provide the United States with a stable, known-cost energy supply. If you think “green energy” and “climate change”, when crowed about by people such as Kerry and petulant, stupid and manipulated children like Greta should not be met with an instant no-bull**** middle finger and whatever further action must be taken to prevent those people from holding sway you deserve to freeze to death and you may well wind up doing exactly that.

DC is not a strategic location. It is not a port. It does not sit on a that carries any trade, unlike the Mississippi or the great lakes. It is on a major north to south highway, but there are alternate routes. It is not in the heart of a major agricultural area of production.
The only strategic value it has is that the north south train tracks run through it.
Then there is the psychological value of it being the seat of government. It is already partially depopulated in that function and could easily be moved.
As an actual strategic target, then, its value would almost only be as a psychological strike, and these days it’s unclear that would even be the case.

The detailed solar physics are too complicated for a political board. But we are dealing with a variable star that is now entering a grand minima phase correlated to magnetic field changes. Go research Penn and Livingston for the real science. Solar physicists have been aware of what’s happening for over a decade now.
There are several historical grand minima recorded over the last several centuries. All coincided with dramatic drops in global temperatures persisting for several decades. It has nothing to do with solar radiant output, and everything to do with a broader magnetic field flux decline, and the resulting increased cosmic ray effects on the Earth’s atmosphere.
So don’t buy the climate zealots’ “the Sun’s output only changes 0.01%” nonsense. As usual, they are rank simpletons devoid of any real deeper scientific understanding of these matters.
A co-worker told me about a book about that sunspot theory which made more sense than “man-caused climate change” or “man-caused global warming”
way back when, there were warmer periods on earth correlating to sunspots, way before the “Industrial Revolution” even got into full swing –

Sunspots are localized magnetic flux patterns across the sun’s surface. In the visual spectrum, they appear as black spots, but it is actually just an area of relatively lower temperature at those visible wavelengths. The change is caused by magnetic field loops that dance across the sun’s surface.
Another magnetic-induced little known fact. The sun’s corona increases up to one million degrees hotter further out from the solar surface.
Historically, scientists used simple techniques of just counting sunspots to start determining patterns, and discerned the basic 11-13 year cycle. The deeper and harder minimas and maximums that persisted for longer periods followed over time, as spot counts developed broader patterns. And then a strong statistical correlation was made between these deeper sunspot ‘droughts’ and global temperatures. But for centuries, scientists were unable to figure out the deeper causes.
The correlation between sunspots and stellar magnetic fields is a 20th Century development. But we still do not know all their is to know about stellar influences, and the broader influence of cosmic radiation at longer distances.
Recent evidence from the Voyager missions now suggests that the Sun’s influence over the solar system, and what it allows in from outside that heliosphere, is much larger and more complicated than first understood.
But the Sun is far more than a simple radiant energy furnace. It generates energy in many forms, and at many wavelengths and measures. All of those factors influence Earth, either directly, or indirectly – as cosmic radiation (some of which comes from tens of thousands of light years distant) is actually stronger-measuring than the Sun’s in some dimensions, and directly affects us.
The most powerful energies ever measured consist of cosmic (interstellar and intergalactic) radiation. And their impact into our upper atmosphere causes dramatic changes ind interactions at the atomic level. Physics, subatomic energy, chemistry and a host of other harder sciences are involved and interact.
It is a far more complex arrangement than Bill Nye the ‘science guy’ could ever imagine. I only study it as a hobby. But I have great admiration for the real scientists that quietly go about their serious business in these disciplines, below the ideological radar.

There is more Argon in Earth’s atmosphere than CO2. CO2 is actually a trace atmospheric gas.
And it is also essential for all photosynthesis, and all food, on this planet.
Moreover, there has been no meaningful study ever conducted showing the impact of CO2 variances at that trace concentration, and atmospheric thermal retention factors. None. It is unsupported conjecture loosely tied to surface temperature readings devoid of any statistical correlation.
Institutional climate zealots have been repeatedly caught falsifying data to concoct a statistical correlation in recent years, the latest of which was their inability to account for satellite based temperature data that they were unable to manipulate, which shows significantly lower temperatures.

On Monday, two biotech companies filed a lawsuit against Moderna in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, accusing the vaccine manufacturer of patent infringement on its COVID-19 vaccine.
Arbutus Biopharma and Genevant Sciences sued Moderna over infringement claims on six patents concerning the manufacture and sale of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine.[2]

Most of us were able to oppose both Assad and his ally Putin, as well as oppose ISIS. This is because most of us were able to hold two thoughts in our heads at the same time. So why has it become so hard for most of us to condemn both Putin’s attack on Ukraine while also condemning our and our ally Ukraine’s state-funding, training and arming of the armed Nazi battalion Azov in Ukraine?
Again, to be clear, this is not to deny Ukraine’s right to defend itself. This is also not to ignore Putin’s authoritarianism. This is a critique of the Ukrainian state’s decision to do so by raising and formally incorporating specifically neo-Nazi armed battalions into its armed forces. The Saturday Night Live skit on Covid policy is a welcome relief, a cultural sign that rationality has started to return. Yes, the segment is truly hilarious. And it reveals so much about the present moment in which even highly politicized elites are realizing that the dissidents in the Covid wars had it right all along.
At the same time, the skit speaks to a deeper truth about the last two years. For many in the professional Zoom class, the entire occasion tragically became an opportunity for signaling virtue, pontificating about politics, and tightening alliances with their class compatriots, even as billions around the world suffered at the hands of overlords who massively neglected the lessons of traditional public health in favor of a wild experiment in pointless compulsion.
They shut down the “economy” (two weeks turned into two years) but for people in a certain class and age group, it was a welcome relief from the burdens of going to the office. The value of seeming to be part of a grand political mission outweighed the cost of not going out to eat. The lack of empathy for the workers who had no such luxury, church goers locked out of their houses of worship, and kids torn from their peers, to say nothing of millions who fell into poverty – and we could go on – was truly startling.
No, there was nothing amusing about any of this. Not to be humorless here but this was an unprecedented catastrophe the world over. It should not be reduced to fodder for late-night amusement. It’s tragedy not comedy. Every family has a tragic story to tell. And it is far from over, for the collateral damage will be with us for a generation or two.

Too late indeed. My MIL had an injury and was in rehab and then long term care during Covid til our state opened up and we could transfer her. But try as we might she’s bed bound and “failure to thrive” now with all the therapies available (she declines) and a geriatric psychologist. The experience basically has ruined the rest of her life and though we continue to try all we can, since May last year… she has been broken and marked by it.
That is so sad.
