IMHO Don is correct…about the crafty criminal Biden USED to be when his brain was functioning. But even then Biden wasn’t all that shrewd. If just 2% of the MSM alleged “journalists” had ever really dug into his shady dealings, they’d have exposed and destroyed him decades ago. On a lighter note this Christmas eve, yesterdays American Thinker has an article, telling the story of the ORIGIN of the Norad phone line, for children to call and check on the progress of Santa, on X-mas eve.
Heartwarming, and will bring a tear to your eye,…and one I was unaware of, as I suspect most are.
It is not in their archive, so its basically this; in 1955, at the height of the cold war, there was a room staffed with a high ranking officer; it had two phones, a black one for routine calls, and a red one, with a top secret phone, ONLY to ring if there were Nuclear missiles, heading to the U.S., and which would then start the process of ordering a responce.
The red phone rang, and the officer picked it up, and heard a childs voice asking “Hello, is this Santa?”
Initially believing this was a prank by subordinates, the officer began a classic military “dressing down”, but stopped, as he heard the child crying.
Switching gears, he adopted a “Ho, ho, ho” Santa persona, calmed the child and then asked to speak to the childs mother.
Inquiring how the child had managed to call this “top secret” #, he was horrified to learn from the mother, that the # had been erroneously printed in the paper, in an ad, inviting children to “call Santa”.
Hanging up, and with military efficiency he ordered many more phones brought in, a switchboard, and personelle to “man” the phones, and for the rest of x-mas eve they fielded thousands of phone calls from children wanting to talk to Santa.
At one point, someone put up a paper “sleigh” on the radar screens, and thruout the evening it was periodically moved.
It was technically the predecessor to NORAD, CORAD. Eventually funding was allocated, and the operation put on a permanent basis.
What a marvelous, heartwarming story on this Christmas Eve. Thank you for explaining.
