The town of Mayfield, Kentucky has been absolutely devastated by at least one of several tornadoes that tore through six states overnight. The video footage of the area shows widespread devastation, and the Kentucky governor is now reporting at least 70 people have been killed.
All Treepers in the region please check in and let us know how y’all are doing. Our prayers are with everyone who was in the path of this massive storm system. There are resources coming from all over the Southeast and Midwest into the region. The images are jaw-dropping.
(Reuters) – A devastating swarm of tornadoes ripped through six U.S. states, killing more than 70 people in Kentucky and leaving a trail of destroyed homes and businesses along a path that stretched more than 200 miles, officials said on Saturday.
Dozens were feared dead at a candle factory in western Kentucky where about 110 people were working when a powerful tornado ripped through the facility late on Friday, causing the roof to cave in. VIDEO:
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said 40 of the 110 workers had been rescued from the factory so far. “The level of devastation is unlike anything that I have ever seen,” Beshear said of the damage caused by the collection of twisters, with the primary tornado traveling more than 227 miles (365 km) across his state.
[…] The genesis of the tornado outbreak was a series of overnight thunderstorms, including a super cell storm that formed in northeast Arkansas. That storm moved from Arkansas and Missouri and into Tennessee and Kentucky.
“Unfortunately it produced a couple of deadly tornadoes along the way. One of them may have been a long-track tornado,” Storm Prediction Center meteorologist Roger Edward said. “The killer tornado was part of that.” (read more)

I’m sure there are others….. Post ‘Em Up.
FEMA took a week just to find its own rear-end after Sandy , Churches of all stripes , Salvation Army and local folks were on the job right away.
Samaritans Purse is a good one… No Red Cross…
Mennonite Disaster Service is also good.
I knew a guy who worked for them! They are indeed good.
Nigella, thank you for this.
I have a very close relative who has been involved with them for years.
Great reference from you here and thank you for it!

300 mi from us. We’re NE of Cincinasty and we got lucky with only downpours and minor tree damage.
Hubby and I were on the phone with our single daughter in Nashville from 3-4:00am while she was sheltering in her laundry room with no power, tornado sirens, and lots of things going bump in the night. Found a storm chaser on YouTube who had a lot better coverage than the news channels and hung out with her until this line of storms was past. There were so many tornados touching down from this system. Must be Globull Warming, right?
May God bless the people of Mayfield. We will hold a thought for them in our prayers.
We look forward to visiting Corbin, KY in February to see Aaron Lewis during his “Am I the Only One” tour.
Yes indeed, Austin, rest assured there will be a progressive faction somewhere (most likey, CA) that will remind us that this event occurred because of our blatant use of fossil fuels.
I was listening to Stacy Washington (Stacy on the Right) last night on Sirius and heard a siren in the background before it turned off. I think she’s in Missouri.
Shocking devastation!
We were watching you tube and there was a young man who had a better setup than a lot of tv stations.
He tracked this particular storm headed toward Mayfield for quite a while. Quite amazed at him and the young storm chasers we watched last night all around the region affected.
Ryan Hall was his name, quite impressive.
You can also find him @RyanHallYall on Twitter. We follow him, as well.
FWIW. Charity navigator gives Samaritan’s Purse much higher rating than Mercy Chef’s and mildly better than God’s Pit Crew. I donated to Samaritan’s Purse
Like you, I also check out these kinds of ratings because there are many factors that can undermine my confidence in any given charity, including involvement in woke nonsense and/or too high a percentage of their income going to administrative fees. That said, I’m pretty sure Samaritan’s Purse is a much larger charity than the other two which may contribute to its better rating. And in situations like this various charities being involved can really help because oftentimes one has a particular focus compared to another and all the services they offer, combined, are needed.
I know nothing of how Charity Navigator works hence my FWIW but it’s something to consider.
I just figured out what FWIW means. I think.
Anyway, the CN assesses across a range of variables from how transparent the charity is w/respect to funding sources to the percentage of funds that go directly to their mission and everything in between. It’s a useful tool for folks looking to donate but unsure of the reputation of any given charity. I think you were very savvy to check out these charities. It’s a big deal where one is going to put their money and I think you were wise to do a bit of due diligence.
You can look those abbreviations up on the net BTW, haha.

Great song by Buffalo Springfield.
We have to wise.
I just did also. Anything associated with the Graham family comforts me in knowing my contribution will be used wisely.
just donated the godspitcrew.org
God help us, how can I not?
Like we would want God to help us.
Spot on.
Thanks for the links Sarah. I usually do Samaritan’s purse.
Hope Force International is also a good relief org.

Mercy Chefs is great.
Salvation Army recently wanted whites to apologize for their privilege. Shameful.
Team Rubicon, they have a very high rating. Veterans that go in and do what they do. I am assuming they will be on the ground.
https://teamrubiconusa.org/mission/
Yup, the Salvation Army jumped the shark like so many orgs these days. You really have to be careful before you support any enterprise, be it for profit or not for profit.
Yup, their homepage says they are in Benton and Mayfield, Kentucky.
Here in Canada Sally Ann is making all their employees get the vax. I will give elsewhere this year.
Locals in the area will roll up their sleeves, make donations of household/money for the displaced and will all pray for the survivors. The level of “community” out here in rural parts hasn’t really changed in over a hundred years. Folks care about each other still.
Go with Samaritans Purse instead of the Salvation Army. The Red Kettle has gone woke.
https://centralnovanews.com/stories/613274980-along-with-coins-this-christmas-salvation-army-wants-white-donors-to-offer-a-sincere-apology-for-their-racism
Yes!
It’s so sad… I always used to put some money in those kettles, a 20 here, a 10 there… you know, dig a bit into the wallet.
So this one year I got a lay off notice three weeks before Christmas, a week after my contract had been “extended” for a year… hmm… but, I figured, WTHeck, I got some money in the bank, so I kept digging into my wallet, a 20 here, a 10 there, a 20 elsewhere.
Out of the blue, I got another job in a week! My contract, for me to sign, was delivered to me on Dec 23th.
But this year… well, Samaritans Purse just got some of those 20s in one shot.
I think I need to find a good local donation place…
Thanks SparrowHawk for the info and will send a donation right now.
May God bless all those in need in Jesus name we pray amen.
When the news first appeared last night, I did a brief search for Mayfield–and found it had a population of around 10,000. This is completely devastating. The town is basically destroyed, it appears, even if some buildings may remain.
Praying for manifestation of God’s comfort and presence to every individual. It’s pretty much a given that those still alive are struggling to respond to help the person next to them, however they may be able to….and that applies to other areas destroyed as well, not just Mayfield.
Sundance, thank you for posting a video where no one is presuming to explain what we are looking at. Thank you.
Sending prayers up….
I’m sure they will tell us that build back better will help to fix this type of devastation.
A rescued employee is already blaming the factory owner for failing to warn employees about the weather, and failing to tell them to stay home.
Truth be told, I was mystified how any place of business such as this candle factory was open, up, and running given there was a tornado watch in effect. Just heart breaking beyond words to think of the scale of this loss of life. None of those people should have been there. It’s dreadful.
It doesn’t appear they would have been any safer at home.
Yeah, I wondered about that, too. The scale of the devastation was so vast. But it still gets under my skin that an employer would be that callous. That said, I also considered what Mycroft wrote as I also wondered about the role of how we all have to take responsibility to know what’s best for ourselves and our families. But sometimes it’s easier said than done when a person in a position of power wields that power over an employee working in a low paying job, no less. It’s not so simple. The entire situation is just so so sad. It’s hard to feel helpless. Praying and donating to charities who are already on the ground providing support…..
I suggest, once again usinh the “rest of the story” guideline, regarding forming opinions and commenting on peoples actions or events.
Just cause media gives us a 24 hour news cycle, and everythinh is “breaking news” breathlessly reported, doesn’t mean we can’t WAIT until more/all is known.
Perhaps the candle factory building was thought to be a safer place than a stick built home, for example.
As others have observed it appears the only safe place, may have been UNDERGROUND.
Wise words.
Sage advice indeed!
In OK, we know what safe underground is!
Yes the safest place in this circumstance seems to be underground when you consider what 165+ mph winds can do. Although the jury is still out, they say this was an EF3+ tornado. I’m guessing higher by the looks of the devastation.
My comment wasn’t meant to be harsh simply you must be your own advocate. Two years ago the MDs had me buried telling my wife to be prepared for my eminent demise. I wasn’t ready to go so I spent hours and hours with doctor internet. Demanded treatment for what I concluded was killing me and here I am still.
?
Are you Dutchman using a different handle? If not, I can’t make sense of this comment/reply here.
No but I’m honored you might think so!
Hmm. I’m confused because I didn’t see any comment or reply on this string to which you might be referring, but no matter….
When it’s time to go… it’s time to go. God is in control. As sad as this is, none of us will escape when our time comes. One day God will call me to come home. My soul is ready.
We probably exceed the death toll here daily in vax deaths and excessively more in economic destruction. It just does not show up in drone footage. Active shooters are now holding a syringe and government supplies the bullets.
Or out and about in their vehicles trying to get home.
Indiana Resident here – we have been warned about this system for two days. 70 degree weather in the midwest in December is never a good thing – always followed by a cold front – this cold front was strong. Warm moist air from the gulf meets cold air from Canada and boom a super cell outbreak. That whole town was wiped out – it wouldn’t have mattered where they were last night unfortunately.
Surviving the 74 outbreak in Indiana these storms terrify me. You never forget the sound – the freight train sound. Praying for everyone involved.
Yes, it was quite hopeless once it struck. Perhaps part of me feels sad those people couldn’t have been home with their families, but I know that’s probably silly. When an event like this strikes, it’s swift and devastating. You’re lucky you survived the 74 storms in Indiana. I’ve heard from other survivors that the freight train sound remains forever emblazoned in their psyche…. Joining you and countless others in prayer…
My grandmother (who was born in 1903 and passed away in 2003, just 3 weeks from her 100th birthday), was never fazed about earthquakes in California (they came from Nebraska in 1926 on their honeymoon) . . . she said she preferred an earthquake to a tornado, which would just keep going and going.
Heard that after seeing Mardi Gra colors in the clouds. Oklahoma years ago.
The locomotive sound comes right after the weird colors in the clouds.
Survivor in tornado alley.
Never a good combination!
May God help the survivors!
All our 🙏s for them
The yellow tinge to every thing is trip just before it cuts loose.
You got that right!
We had a small tornado sit down near Centerville, Ohio when I was working
out near the Dayton Mall in the late 70s. Opened the back door of the restaurant.
The air was dead still, and the sky was green.
That was my experience as well. The sky was emerald green.
Major hurricane survivor too.
One of the things I appreciate about Sundance is his help and resources to help those that have been through hurricanes.
My hurricane experiences go back before Katrina in New Orleans area, Betsy ’65, Camille ’69. But we did Rita in ’05 in SW LA.
I did have major family in NOLA in ’05, but they were in a better suburb area and my brother-in-law was smart enough to put his renovated house up on a mound.
Solomon, the estimable Gerard Vanderleun whose site AMERICAN DIGEST I can highly recommend to you especially, lost everything in the massive California fire which wiped out his little town of Paradise.
All his works, possessions, everything except his life, thank God. An erudite man.
He documented everything he had to go through for help just to exist. It was a tedious but necessary, humiliating path he had to negotiate.
Fortunately his many followers stepped up with gifts, gift cards to Amazon and elsewhere, and other useful needed things. Those were the people who helped him at the very moment he needed it…not the slow, soulless, regimented government bureaucrats.
I’m sure it will be the case here as well. I believe he archives all his work, if you ever find yourself wanting to visit his remarkable site. Take it from me, I know you would find it satisfying and well worth the time.
Thank you, Betsy!
I will visit the site.
Being a major tornado and hurricane survivor, I never lost everything except to government. I’ll leave it at that.
I did lose a best friend to Katrina. He wasn’t making the best decisions in his life at the time.
But he loved God
You’re welcome. Bless him, Solomon. Who of us could not say that about ourselves at some point in our lives. I certainly can. One such time I know I was mercifully watched out for. I can say the same for my son, who is here today for the same reason. Deo gratias. There is no other answer.
Excellent response!
I was in one once. Remember the weird green light.
Dont want another.
I remember the sound… 1965, Conway, Arkansas. I was huddling in a college dormitory hallway. Never forget the sound, not in 56 years.
Me neither. My family was in Creve Coeur MO in the ‘60’s when a series of tornados went through. Houses on one side of the street were flattened and on the other side they were untouched. I’ll never forget the greenish sky just before they came thru and the roaring train sound. Scary stuff.
Indeed. The green sky. Then the wind.
Green, yellow and purple in the worst ones.
green sky, that’s what my Grandmother said, too – very eerie and scary if you had seen that before
A friend whose house was destroyed in a tornado in GA around 2009-10 showed me photos of his house with the second story in splinters on the ground, most of the first story in shambles with furniture thrown around and a plate rack on the kitchen wall with all the plates untouched.
You never, ever forget!
My family is from the Madison IN, Milton KY area. That area has always had very serious storms. Glad you’re OK
That storm system produced the tornado that completely flattened Xenia, OH. It’s a thriving city again, but it took many, many years.
My dad was in the construction trades when the big Xenia, Ohio tornado hit.
Xenia put out an APB for any available trucks to help them dig out. I was a Junio
r
in high school, and rode along with dad . Never saw anything like it. Until this.
Higher death toll for Maysfield, almost double Xenia’s. Xenia lost 37 people, and
around 1700 buildings if memory serves correct.
I think there were around 140 plus tornados in Ohio, Indiana, GA, KY during that
time. I might have left a few states out.
I heard that freight train sound of the wind approaching the house in Hurricane Irene. It’s on a repeat loop, so it seems to pass by and then the next train comes around…. Yes it goes to the core of your nerves and you never forget it.
Schools don’t close, businesses don’t send employees home, etc. when a tornado watch or warning is issued. There simply isn’t time! Funnel clouds can spin into existence very, very quickly. Generally, it’s wiser to shelter in-place wherever you are (preferably underground or at least in a windowless room) than to be caught out in the open on a road driving home. The tornado can hop and skip and jump across the landscape, leveling some buildings and sparing others; its path is not always predictable. Attempting to outrun a 90 mile per hour tornado is not advisable!
Most of us who live in tornado-afflicted states are used to paying attention to weather conditions that could trigger the development of a funnel cloud, but this one was a bit of surprise. Tornadoes are much more common in the spring months. Plus this one struck at night when many were already in bed.
Thank you for sharing that. It makes a great deal of sense. I judged a situation w/o full knowledge of the specific facts or even, apparently, general rules of thumb as you have noted. It’s all very much appreciated and I’m humbled to learn and be able to think more intelligently about these situations because of what you and others have shared. I am grateful.
Sarah Lee—Yours is a gracious response. I’m happy that I was able to provide you with some useful information. I realize you were only expressing your deep concern for the employees’ safety.
Thank you.
also, there is a BIG difference between the tornado WARNING, a precursor wake up, and a tornado ALERT….the warning just informs you that conditions are right and tornadoes CAN form…you may get none or many as is the case with this storm front…the unpredictability carries through into the if and when as well
Another survivor of the ’74 storms, the tornado warning came and my employer immediately sent us home. Driving across an overpass in the direct tailwinds, my car was picked up and mercifully placed, without turning upside down, into the opposite lane at the end of the overpass, instead of on the highway below. Company policy thereafter was to shelter in place.
I am more at risk of hurricanes where I am now. You have at least a couple of days notice. Tornadoes can spin up in an instant, and it’s much worse in the dark! I’ve been thru several of both types of storms, and I’ll take a hurricane any day.
The company did nothing wrong staying open. A ‘tornado watch’ only means to be aware of the possibility, weather conditions exist that a tornado “may” develop.
https://www.weather.gov/safety/tornado-ww
Agree. It was irresponsible for them when there were warnings. Did they even have a tornado shelter for the employees? Would guess the company will be facing lawsuits.
Excuse me? No disrespect intended but did the owner tell them to eat a good breakfast and brush their teeth?
Mycoft, I agree with you. Evidently company owners are supposed to be nannys now, I thought that was what we did NOT want. Like did you get the jab your boss told you to get? Very similar danger.
Thank you.
warnings are generally given when the conditions are right and tornadoes may have been spotted in the near vicinity…an ALERT says there is an active tornado close at hand
If so, looks like another byproduct of letting a lot of these factories let legalities fly under the radar, especially hiring practices.
Another crisis for the illegitimate JoBama regime to take advantage of.
We’ll be hearing that global warming caused the tornadoes, and we need to spend trillions of dollars to save the Earth.
You didn’t get the memo?
Global warming was rebranded as climate change then rebranded again as climate extinction.
And Biden will be stating that the dead were all unvaccinated!!!
Yep, that concept was on our local news (Tampa) this afternoon.
As a former resident of Kansas, I have much empathy for these folks.
I will continue to pray for their recovery.
THEY will definetly blame global warming, find SOME way to blame “Trump”, lol.
Latest is Biden blaming Qanon, for the economy.
Childish behavior is all the Bidenistas have.
I shudder at the thought of this administration dealing w/this disaster.
No need to worry. I doubt they will deal with it…at least in the way that offers true help without onerous governmental strings.
They will face limitless red tape to rebuild, climate change and all the rest. Rural Kentucky will have to have solar panels and windmills. I cringe at the thought.
The civilian boots on the ground will be the ones to provide comfort and resources.
Fair assessment judging by their lack of concern over those Americans abandoned in Afghanistan.
My condolences. It will not be long before the fake wall st carbon tax cultists start trying to blame this on CO2, and it could be stopped and perfect temperatures set, if we pay Wall st crooks & their criminal traitor politicians who are invested in the racket, or campaign contributions from the racketeers to tax our energy.
Sadly I expect you are correct. There is no bottom to their barrel.
Because their ‘barrel’ is a chute straight to hell.
I am sure other nations around the world are already organizing fund raisers and preparing to send relief and aid. [sarc off]
Yup. Pallettes of cash and basic supplies already en route as we speak from Somalia, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. More to follow soon.
Amen.
We were awakened at 3am with Tornado Sirens and phone Warnings. It said to take refuge ASAP.
We moved into our safe space, turned on the TV and all stations were LIVE (We are 10 miles N of downtown Nashville).
We heard it pick up and saw it literally, on the news, about 5 miles from us heading our way. We then heard tremendous wind, lashing rains, thunder, lightning and the power went off.
We were monitoring it on our phones so stayed until we got the all clear.
We had heard already that the nursing home in Ark had been hit and that Ky was currently being impacted. Several communities to W of us took major damage.
They are now saying this is the Quad State Tornado range. The previous record was a Tri State Event that went 210miles–this one dwarfed it and was more vicious.
Damage all over Nashville. Power still out (2:30pm) for over 65K ppl. Our power came back at 9am so we were lucky.
PLEASE pray for all the people who have lost everything including their Lives. This entire area is impacted heavily but nothing like little Mayfield.
Joining countless Treepers in prayer…. and, donations to reputable faith-based charities who are already providing aid.

Thank you!
Joining you in the prayers, Sarah.
So glad you are safe..
Glad you all & your home were spared. Sounds like a miracle since you were only a few miles away from the Tornadoes!
Thank you for the personal report. Praying for all of you. Praying for those that lost everything, homes, loved ones, I can’t imagine! And so close to what should be the happiest time of the year, Jesus’ birth. May God Bless all of you in the affected areas.
We experienced Hurricane Andrew in Fla. were about 20 miles from the eye. It was a very scary night to say the least, one radio station talking to us, keeping us updated and feeling like we were not alone. I will never forget it, it seemed like the storm lasted all night long. Next day trees down all around but we were all safe thank God.
I dread those siren sounds, especially when they “shock” you out of sleep at night and you have to scramble blurry eyed trying to wake up.
But we have to be thankful for the sirens.
They are so loud I can hear them in a town miles away.
We have one such basically right outside our front door. Every now and again they are tested for efficacy, without warning. Ear piercing. This year there was a malfunction which the operators were trying to repair, and which took what seemed like ages to do. No getting away from the sound. If ever needed, there is no chance we could ignore it or sleep through it. It’s the sudden, unexpected shock of hearing it go off that gets one’s attention.
I know they have to test, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve scrambled out of bed to a sunny day.
They should let communities know when they are going to test.
This year, they didn’t even test them. Go figure.
Oh dear…not good. Someone asleep on the job. I left you a reply above.
I got it. TY!
👍
our town does a monthly test on first Tuesday at 10 AM
I was wondering where the residents of such a town as Mayfield would have gone for shelter? You said you went to your safe place; what type of space is that. I briefly lived in Missouri and there were tornadoes all around but never had one where I lived.
I am glad you and your family are safe!
Dear God that’s awful! I haven’t watched any news today so I had no idea it was this bad. God bless all the people who live in the path of this thing.
You know, it’s disgusting that they will use this to push their global warming BS.
From this heartbreaking devastation and crushing loss of life, the human kindness and Christian best of us will rise to comfort, support, to cry with those who have lost everything.
And God will show Himself in the efforts and hearts of all who come to the aid of people who see no hope.
Those on the ground helping are the wheat separated from the chaff. Tomorrows will come, and with them the resilience of those for whom we offer all our prayers will stand as sign of His great and never-ending mercies and grace.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
🙏🙏🙏
Yes!
Yes! And Amen to that, I think God is showing us something and I hope people are paying attention, not just watching.
I think He is…a silver glimmer which is just now showing, but will be a bright glowing light before lives are as rebuilt as they possibly can be from a tragedy like this.
Amen, Betsy! These are very wise words.
Thanks for that wonderful prayer Sundance.
Having personally witnessed the May 11, 1970 multi-vortice tornado that hit Lubbock, Texas; I can attest that the entire world just stops for everyone around the site.
Men and women from all over mobilize to lend a hand and clear roads, electrical power companies show up to assess and neutralize downed power lines, check gas lines and many other tasks to assure that rescuers remain safe . Churches and clubs and schools and fellowships from the entire area show up to lend a hand, provide shelter, clothing food and water.
An awful night then turns into a night and days filled with awe as we all pitch in to assist out fellow man-woman-child.
Quick healing for the injured and God’s comfort to the families who lost their loved ones.
My hometown, Eagle 61. It was awful. Lubbock has good people.
1979…my last time through Lubbock.
Flat, but all streets set in straight intersecting lines. Easy to negotiate. And the best old timey Pancake House on Avenue Q for breakfast and whatever else.
What you wrote is beautiful, heart breaking, and inspiring. Very touched by it….
I help remove surviving property from an in-laws house next day after monster Xenia tornado.
Words cannot adequately describe what happens.
The first thing I think when I look at such devastation is where on earth do you start.
Yep
If you’re alive, all over.
Yes…everything starts from the beginning.
We start with prayer.
The devastation is beyond anything I imagined. Prayers to Mayfield.
Does anyone know where we can donate to?
Look upthread a little bit – several links provided there
Thank you.
These are three very reputable faith-based charities:
https://godspitcrew.org/
https://mercychefs.com/
https://www.samaritanspurse.org/
Thanks again for the link. I just donated to Samaritan’s Purse. To donate it’s listed under ‘U.S. Disaster Relief.’ The article on their main page says they are deploying to Kentucky and Arkansas. They think one of the tornadoes was on the ground for 200 miles across both states. The damage must be tremendous.
Yes, I think the distance it traveled is almost unheard of. G-d bless you for donating. When a disaster like this strikes, these charities kick into high gear, but they need money to pour in so they can have the biggest reach for the longest time possible, and that’s the part we all can play.
Not faith based, but they get it done w/skill. https://teamrubiconusa.org
Thanks for the links…. I’ve seen samaritanspurse before… so..
Not much else we can do from the West Coast.
I got a feeling that a tornado hitting your house would be worse than the Big One hitting mine.
Amen. Praying for all.
Thank you Sundance!
After seeing how Joplin looked after its 2011 EF-5 tornado, I never want to see such destruction again. It’s honestly just a terrible thing to witness. One of my friends lives in western Kentucky and his house narrowly avoided damage. Some damaged homes down his street, and a couple miles away I guess it’s just devastated. One of the most surprising things about the Joplin tornado was that “only” 162 people died. At the time, I was thinking it would be over 1000 easy. Talking with some of the survivors, it’s amazing that they made it. A couple of their stories were absolutely harrowing.
Moore, Ok. Highest wind speed ever recorded on earth.
1999 Bridge Creek–Moore tornado – Wikipedia
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Bridge_Creek%E2%80%93Moore_tornado
I was about 200 miles sw.
I remember reading the Tulsa World and seeing its 2 page spread of the damage.
The OKC area has had the worst EF5’s than any other area.
The death toll wasn’t as high as Joplin’s. They were better prepared.
Not to get hung up on a technicality, because that is clearly extremely fast, but that speed was an estimate not a recorded wind speed.
https://www.thoughtco.com/fast-wind-speed-recorded-3444498
FTA:
“What About Tornadic Winds? Tornadoes are some of the weather’s most violent windstorms. Winds inside of an EF-5 tornado can exceed 300 mph. Why then, aren’t they responsible for the fastest wind?
Tornadoes usually aren’t included in the rankings for the fastest surface winds because there is no reliable way to measure their wind speeds directly. Tornadoes destroy weather instruments. Doppler radar can be used to estimate a tornado’s winds but because it only gives an approximation, these measurements cannot be seen as definitive. If tornadoes were included, the world’s fastest wind would be approximately 302 mph (484 km/h). It was observed by a Doppler on Wheels during a tornado occurring between Oklahoma City and Moore, Oklahoma on May 3, 1999. “
in modern times they have moved to a more economical scale but older midwestern towns had either a full basement or at least a storm shelter in the houses for just such occasions…now you have to ride it out in an interior room and hope you make it through
Mt Juliet TN Treeper checking in. We missed damage, Praise God. Many not so fortunate.
Pastor Greg Locke’s Church was damaged but they will not be deterred from Sunday service.

The recent CC conference, whatever their calling it, where all the Elites (except Nuesom, he had a wedding to attend, dontcha know) that they flew into in their private jets, had two sections.
One, color coded green (I think) was for the rubes, and had all sorts of indoctrination propoganda.
The other, only accesible with a BLUE pass (Blue for blueblood?) was a series of conferences, ALL focused on THE BENJAMINS, sorting out how they are going to cut up the pie.
Buying and selling carbon tax credits will be like “derivatives” as the latest “new thing” and way to pick our pockets, while making the elites richer, AND giving them still MORE control over our lives.
NUKE Davos.
that conference was in SCOTLAND…God does have a sense of humor though..they plan those out a couple of years in advance….almost every time they are ushered in with a COLD front hitting the site of the conference
🙏ing!!! 😭
Lord watch and keep these poor people.
Wow!
With you. Stan!
The Cajun Navy just posted on FB that their compatriots at CrowdSource have activated.
CrowdsourceRescue:Campaigns
Cajun Navy is awesome!
I was wondering if they would go to dry land! Cool beans.
Maybe Sundance can scoop up resources like this and update the post so it’s easy to find orgs to donate to.
Btw, I have Cajun roots.
I know what their bones and hearts are made of.
Ex-pat from LA here…totally agree!
Bless the Cajun Navy. I have a few Cajun friends descended from the “Great Relocation” from Acadie, (now reduxed Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island). after France lost the French and Indian War. The English didn’t want them since they wouldn’t swear an Oath of Supremacy to the protestant British King.
They were rounded up, about 10,000 of them, hunted like animals, and “Relocated” with the clothes on their backs. to Louisiana, Haiti, and such.
If it weren’t for re-population by waves of English and Scots, many from prisons and poor houses, and loyalists moving North from New England due to local unpopularity, I suspect Canada would have accepted our formal invitation to join The United States of America in 1776. If the Great Pretender gets the boot that would still be a smart move. At least we got the Gumbo and the Cajun Navy.
It looks like we’re going to need Stillwater again tonight 🙏
Lincoln County, near StL. We took shelter in the middle part of the house for about an hour while this storm system moved through. Checked livestock and the property afterwards. All critters were fine, and no trees were down, which is pretty amazing.
References upthread to the Joplin tornado—I worked for MoSo at the time although I lived out of town.GIS experts had to come in to identity the streets so people could pick through the rubble. The college hosted rescue workers in the dorms for weeks.
The devastation these storms can leave behind defies description.
There were whole grass lawns ripped out in that tornado in Joplin.
A tornado’s vacuum and sucking power is almost incomprehensible.
Hurricane Camille, 1969, had a record breaking number of embedded tornadoes that literally sucked whole concrete portions of Hwy 90 out of the ground.
Very much reminds me of the tornado our family went through in Topeka, KS, June 8, 1966. Miraculously, only 17 were killed. My sisters and I were in vacation Bible school and were told to quickly shelter with the rest of the kids in the basement of a nearby house, as the church did not have one. After it passed and the all-clear had been sounded, we drove home through scenery just like this and could not believe the devastation. My father was a physician and was at home at the time, unaware of anything other than lights flickering in his basement office. When he found out what had happened, he ran to his car to drive to the local hospital to lend a hand and the normal 15 minute ride took him over two hours. An indelible memory. God be with all the families and neighborhoods touched by this monster.
I remember that one. My dad worked for a glass company and he was sent to Topeka to help estimate glass breakage. He took me and my mom along. The devastation was unreal.
I am near Bowling Green Kentucky. Lots of damage. Still evaluating damage. Whole neighborhoods flattened while people home in bed. Emergency crews are out. Lots of people with no electricity.
The storms came in narrow bands obliterating where they hit and doing little damage where they missed.
Thanks for your prayers. This community appreciates them.
Reminds me of April 3, 1974.
Xenia…super outbreak.
But that was regular tornado spring season.
This is December!!!
Crazy weather! When we hit temps in the 70s in the winter months with rain and a cold front behind it, this is what will happen.
Some of the worst tornado’s I have ever witnessed happened in December.
You have us! 🙏ing!!!
Apparently it’s not over. To add insult to massive injury, thunderstorms predicted.
I was asleep at home (Chicago area) and had no idea my son at WKU was in such danger. Thankfully, it spared the campus and he was safe in his dorm. Looking at the photos, I realize how lucky he was!
We’re in Bowling Green. Tornado tore through several subdivisions here. GM plant took some damage. Corvette Museum did too. Hwy 31 Bypass in one section was wiped out. There were several fires and gas leaks. Lots of people without power and tonight the low is in the 20’s. My family was blessed and none of us were hit. One more note: one of the harder hit neighborhood was in a lower income area.
Glad you guys are OK. I was planning to go to Mammoth Cave tomorrow to do some field work. I am going to put it off a while.
So glad you and your family are safe. Read my post. My son goes to WKU and was in his dorm during this. I asked if he was afraid and he said no, he was chilling watching Peaky Blinders and only was mad when the power went out and his data wouldn’t work. Kids. No fear. I’m just glad I slept through it not knowing was was going on down there. I didn’t find out what happeened until this morning. I would have been freaking out! But he had planned on leaving this morning with his carpool buddys and is now home safe in his own bed right now.
The storms had destructive wind and sudden downpours. This map give the coverage of the rain and shows the local bands of activity. Downtown bowling Green had over 3 inches of rain and just 2 miles away l ess than a inch. Zoom in on Southern Kentucky.

Put your faith in the government to control these terrible natural disasters from happening. Like covid which they created and politicized they have politicized the weather. First under global warming. Now under climate change. It’s our fault. It will be another never ending waste of trillions of dollars just like welfare and our failed education system.
Just a word of constructive criticism?
At this time, instead of focusing on the negatives, try focusing on the positives. If you can’t physically help, donate some money instead. There will be time for us to think about politics, LATER.
We are better than the politicians and the progressives. Show it.
It was crazy scary here in TN early this morning. I’m blessed to have an F5 rated safe room in my carport. So many of Mayfield and nearly every small town here don’t even have community shelters for people. They huddle in their mobile homes/manufactured homes’ bathroom off a central hallway. Our homes here do not have basements, we have crawl spaces.
If the politicians actually gave a damn about people and infrastructure, they’d have grants for people/communities to have tornado storm shelters.
Texas has had more tornadoes than any state.
But Oklahoma has had more EF5 tornadoes than any state, especially the OKC area.
So we have a lot of good underground shelters here.
My friends down the block have a large fiberglass shelter underground that can hold 20+ comfortably.
Okies are used to it.
But again, this of last night happened in December!
I drove into a tornado in OK Febrary 1998 at night. Didn’t know and couldn’t see it coming. An unusual 80 degrees hitting cold air coming in.
I managed to get our car parked up against a cafe by the hardest. That last 1000 feet was hard to navigate.
When it was over and we got back on the road, 2 vehicles ahead of us were turned over. God’s hand was truly upon us.
Amen. A good point to have the state representatives take up in DC now that Biden is on the spot to actually do something constructive and he knows it.
Just donated to Samaritans Purse for the good of those affected.
Prayers up…and thank you Sundance and CTH for keeping us informed.
God Bless.
Horrible. We lived through a few tornadoes while in SD and Illinois but never suffered more than a slight roof damage or a flooded basement. I remember when a tornado went just a few hundred yards from our house, ripping the roofs off. We were lucky. Yes, the sound is horrifying, especially when you sit in the basement lit by a few candles and your only source of news is radio. These tornados always hit at night, don’t they. Prayers for all affected.
Here in Paducah, KY, on the merge of Ohio and Tennesee Rivers, about an hour NW of Mayfield. Thankfully our county was spared. My cell went off with the emergency warning system but we already knew from our wonderful TV weather crew that we were out of the path. Thunderstorms followed.
The devastation you saw in the video. It took out 3 churches and much of the courthouse. People had thought the churches were safe places to go. As one Treeper commented, basements were the safest places. A couple had their home basically sheared off above them. Many businesses are gone. I hope the locally owned pharmacy who filled my Ivermectin is still there. The tornado basically ripped through the downtown.
The psychological devastation will be felt for a long time.
Thanks to everyone for prayers.
Prayers for everyone affected? Let’s all help in anyway we can.
Brought back to mind the devastation resulting from my state’s 2011 Joplin Missouri EF5 tornado (it was 1-mile wide with 200mph+ winds. 158 killed. $2.8B in damage).
According to wiki, that tornado “ranks as the costliest single tornado in U.S. history“.
Joplin’s rebuilt (and are likely still rebuilding and recovering). Praying that Mayfield KY can also recover.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Joplin_tornado
Your info is accurate by all accounts.
Ten years later you can still drive around town and identify the tornado path from the newer construction and missing old trees.
my college sent construction majors 2 years in a row to help put Joplin back on its feet during their spring breaks…wholesome activity compared to a normal release of anxiety
Makes me think of Rush, speaking of Joplin. This is the first Christmas his family will have w/out him, always the hardest.
Very hard. It is also our first Christmas without him. One day on the radio before he passed, he said he wanted us all to know that when he was gone that he wished he could still be with us. How we could use Rush’s insight and humor right now! He is sorely missed, but we can take comfort in knowing he is enjoying his first Christmas with Jesus Christ the Savior, and what a joyful time that must be. Undoubtedly he has started a radio show in Heaven and maybe Jesus comes on as a guest to comment on what is happening with us mortals.
Lord, comfort these people who lost loved ones and homes.
Someone had posted a doppler image of two tornadoes side by side last night, so I knew this wouldnt be good. I hope this pic comes out of the map of the 200 mile distance traveled by the big one:
https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/tenant/amp/entityid/AARItuW.img?h=768&w=1366&m=6&q=60&o=f&l=f
I remember the super tornado outbreak of 1974 that covered a significant area of the east central midwest, where several of them traveled long distances.

With your 🙏er!
I hope they using the drones for search and rescue?
They are going to needs lots of dogs.
If I recall correctly, after the Joplin devastation, some residents who still had homes and power took in newly homeless families before the government even set up shelters. Hoping to hear of the same kind of compassionate outreach.
I miss President Trump every day but especially during tragedies like this. His leadership is needed. His genuine concern and encouragement are needed.
Heck, what’s her face, fishnet, just went to WI where the Parade Killer ran over everyone. How many weeks has it been? I simply cannot imagine having to deal w/her, her husband, or any of the admin during such a horrible time. I believe its next week there will be MOH ceremonies, two of them were killed, and as awful as it sounds I am grateful that they do not have to receive their MOH from Xiden. It seriously insults me. These people in KY don’t deserve having them showing up during this crisis, not that they will bother to make the trip.
I live just south of Nashville. I woke up this morning to alerts, text messages, voicemails and emails. I slept through it all. D’oh! Consider Samaritan’s Purse. Please take Salvation Army off your list of nonprofits. They have gone woke. You need to confess your racism. https://centralnovanews.com/stories/613274980-along-with-coins-this-christmas-salvation-army-wants-white-donors-to-offer-a-sincere-apology-for-their-racism
I’m wondering if the Turtle McConnell and his CCP wife Elain Choa will be helping those in the state he represents. Don’t hold your breath for the old fart. I remember back in 2009 or 2010, there was a major ice/snowstorm in Kentucky. It was bad, really bad. The rural areas were shut down and no power or utilities for weeks. Obama never showed and the Feds did nada. In freezing temps those people had no help because at the time the Governor was a Republican. Turtle was AOL as usual. I have never understood why Kentuckians continue to vote for the grifter.
Quick point about McConnell. He takes care of Kentucky where it counts, supporting local politicians. He does a lot that affects our communities. He represents us well and it is the reason he gets elected.
What he is bad at doing is protecting the interests of conservatives on national issues. At that he stinks royally.
VibeMan – didn’t former Gov Matt Bevin lose to that autocrat Dem Gov Beshar you have now? What did the Turtleman do to help Bevin? Seems to me that Bevin wasn’t the “right” kind of GOPe for Turtleman.
Mercuryone.org is probably the best run by the Glenn Beck people. 100% of your donation goes to help those in need. No one person or entire gets a cut and you can name where you want the funds to go.
Biden will exploit this tornado as an excuse to give another sermon proselytizing Anthropogenic Global Warming Theology.
Sadly, he did
There are no words. My heart breaks for the families and how their lives have turned upside down in seconds. Prayers of comfort, strength, and safety to all.
My prayer joins all of your prayers for any of CTH’s people in those areas.
Was glad to read some comments from those in the Bowling Green area that got through it.
Have family and friends in KY and trying to touch base with them.
It’s kind of a waiting thing.
I want my phone to ring if you know what I mean.
Blessings to all here who care and are willing to help!
We live about an hour north of there. We get a lot of weather in this area so some people have learned to just grab their chainsaw and head toward it. One of our family did just that last night and ended up pitching in at the candle factory mentioned. He was there all night helping locate people, helping to kind of assess and get the deceased and survivors out. A couple of men were pinned under a wall and couldn’t get out. Responders were reluctant to make a decision until one of the honchos showed up and decided they had to get a crane and get the roof off. Our guy told him that if they move that roof, it’d kill those two men. He finally was able to get them out. Crush injuries – going to be a tough go for them. Our guy finally had to leave in tears early this morning. It had to be bad. He said one of the deceased had a ringing cell phone in a pocket.
We’ve chipped in for another family member who’s picked up sandwiches, drinks, blankets and whatever from Sam’s club and was running it down there. I think some of the businesses in Paducah and all around are organizing drop off points for people to leave whatever is needed. People all around are pitching in. We know of one business flattened and the two owners both had their houses flattened too. There are going to be a lot of these stories coming out no doubt.
Devastating … God bless your Family Member
Prayers for them all
Can China manipulate the weather to do this?
I read recently that China seeded clouds to clear the skies for some parade
China is now controlling the weather. What’s the environmental cost?
https://www.euronews.com/green/2021/12/09/china-is-now-controlling-the-weather-what-s-the-environmental-cost
“Although the city experiences warm temperatures in July (averaging between 22 – 31 C), it is also a month with nearly “constant cloud cover”. So cloud seeding is a common procedure for clearing the skies in China – with the government having spent billions of euros on efforts to manipulate the weather over the last 13 years, ever since the 2008 Olympic Games.”

it is asserted the US HARP Project in S Alaska has the ability to affect weather using ultra low-frequency transmissions
Think it was the UAE that recently was able to make it rain on command.
Very weird weather events this last year. Hail storm out of nowhere pelting a Dolce and Gabbana event, blizzard warning in Hawaii, while raining torrentially on Pearl Harbor Day. .
This is a heck of a rabbit hole to even think about.
Praying for all who were in the path of this devastation.
Yes, on the ability to affect the weather. No on the low frequency transmissions. It uses microwave frequencies to either heat or cool the air in the stratosphere, by adjusting the frequency either to a resonance or an antiresonance of something in the atmosphere up there. I suspect that they are tweaking water vapor vapor molecules.
It is a phased array system, which means a beam can be scanned across the sky, without moving antennas, allowing it to cover large areas of the sky.
Your microwave over heats the water molecules that are in all types of food, by hitting a resonant frequency of water molecules.
There are rumored to be similar facilities all over the world, operated by Russia, China and possibly other countries. It is rumored that the USA is attacking China, but causing unusually heavy rains above the 3 Gorges dam. It is also rumored that the drought in the Western part of the USA and the unusually heavy precipitation in the Eastern part of the USA is being orchestrated either by China or Russia.
I have not been able to substantiate any of this. It seems like their would need to be mobile versions of HAARP, to perform such attacks and mobile facilities should be readily identifiable, especially when pumping many megawatts of microwave power into the atmosphere for long periods of time, possibly hitting aircraft passing overhead. Therefore I am skeptical that such weather attacks are actually underway.
It is theoretically possible that such microwave modification of the weather could be done by beaming microwaves down to the stratosphere from spacecraft above. I suspect that is not likely though, because I believe you need many megawatts of power to effectively modify the weather. Power is a scarce commodity in space, but I could conceive of a scheme of storing energy gathered from the sun over many days, to allow periodic adjustments to the weather.
Again, I have no hard evidence of this.
On a slightly tangential topic, it is looking more and more likley that there really are microwave weapons in space that are being used to set forest fires here in the USA.
I design space hardware for a living.
Why we need a Space Force. No doubt in my mind there is all kinds of things going on to mess w/the weather.
As a kid my mom would always note weird weather when they sent NASA rockets up into space.

This article has so much information. It names many local establishments who are helping. Sometimes it’s good to just send a check to one of the local churches, etc. listed here as they will incur lots of expenses regardless of the physical donations.
This is super helpful. Thank you for posting. I hope you’ll repost tomorrow morning. Lot of treepers read on Sunday mornings ☕🫖
Wow.
And as expected, like clockwork, Old Man Biden disrepectful and tone deaf uses “climate change” in remarks about this tragedy…Gateway Pundit.
We knew it was coming. They just have to do it.
Progda Enemedia headlines Monday morning: “Over 100 killed by Anthropomorphic Global Warming and Trump … but mostly Trump.”
