Bob Dole, a decorated World War II veteran who overcame near fatal wounds to become a respected U.S. Senator from Kansas, died on Sunday. He was 98.
“It is with heavy hearts we announce that Senator Robert Joseph Dole died early this morning in his sleep. At his death, at age 98, he had served the United States of America faithfully for 79 years. More information coming soon,” the Elizabeth Dole Foundation announced on Twitter.
Bob Dole served as majority leader in the Senate as well as a the chairman of the RNC and Republican presidential candidate. Dole was a feature of DC politics for several decades, and one of the few old school Republican Party officials who embraced Donald Trump as a candidate and president. Senator Bob Dole website here.
R.I.P. Senator Dole.
May the Lord receive His servant.
Great job Senator Dole and whata way to go, in your sleep. I’m down for that.
SD, I know you hover over new posts like a proud papa. ‘Educating’ folks who disagree. This comment has nothing to do with this Dole post. No doubt your flying monkeys/praetorians will not approve this comment but maybe you’ll read it in your role as defender of your ‘genius’.
You have finally started commenting on ‘vaccine’ deaths, adverse reactions and ineffectiveness. Slightly distancing yourself from your favorite politician from FL, Ronnie. Kudos. 10 months too late. Now do us all a favor and start posting on why Ron as of last week is still promoting the jab. It should be voluntary according to him and all Republican establishment. Meanwhile ‘vaccine’ passports are being enacted and liberty stolen here and around the globe. Children are being jabbed everywhere every day. People die every day from the jab.
Why do they, prominent Republicans do this. Lead the way. Live up to your minuteman photo.
Try harder glowie.
Why don’t to write to, or call those people you’re inquiring about yourself and ask those questions? It is not anyone else’s responsibility to do what you’re asking. We are all individuals and are responsible for ourselves, and not others.
Let’s go, Frank!
Who you calling a monkey Cheetah?
full douche bag because you disagree…
that didn’t take much effort, did it?
Off Topic.
Yes. And so disrespectful.
I’m gonna pass on what Franks sellin.
As a regular reader, I agree with what you’re saying, fundamentally (your edited version, the only one I saw). However, SD has done a splendid job covering as many of the matters as possible, with so much going on, the left agitating nonstop. So many good souls are hard at work for our freedoms. I think Bob Dole would be proud.
Can I show up at your wake and try to sell used cars? Tone deaf much?
Amen.
Why don’t YOU answer that question yourself?
RIP.
I pray that he had accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
“I come to bring salvation to ALL men.”
He’ll be fine.
That’s universalism. Did you also invent that quote? It’s not Scriptural.
It’s a direct quote from Christ. Translations differ slightly. The context remains as I’ve written it.
Luke 3:6.
Throw in Titus 2:11 and Romans 5:18 for additional context. Peter and Paul wrote of it extensively.
“Every word of God is tested. Every word of God is true.”
“The Scripture cannot be broken.”
Luke 3:6 isn’t a direct quote from Christ.
Luke is discussing John the Baptist and he is referencing a passage from the book of Isaiah.
Whoa. Be careful not to confuse the Objective with the Subjective. Objectively, from God’s end, what he says is true. (Of course, if you are a Calvinist holding to a “Limited Atonement”, then you will reject this.) Is not the Atonement confessed to be universal? Did not Christ suffer and die for the sins of the whole world? Was not Salvation won for all? Yes it was. Now, yes, having said that, subjectively speaking, those who persistently, unto death, reject that gift of salvation won for them, will get what they wanted (life without God = Hell) for all eternity, but from God’s end, it is false to assert He does not desire that all men be saved or that He did not atone for the sins of the whole world, whether they came to believe it or not. He does bring salvation to all men. An imperfect metaphor would be to say God placed all mankind in the lifeboat leading to the shore of Heaven. But some jump out and persist in swimming their own way. So it is not that God didn’t rescue and save them. It’s just that they persistently refused to believe this, persistently rejecting that which had been given them. God in His sorrow, on the Day of Judgement, will give them what they persistently wanted, allow them to have what they always wanted, namely, an eternal life without Him, which is Hell.
Every word of God is true. Nothing He says in one place can be negated by something written somewhere else.
“Every knee will bow
Every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.” Every. Not some. Not the just the willing. EVERY.
It is IMPOSSIBLE for ANYONE to refuse to confess Christ as Lord and Savior. God will make all of us do it. He is sovereign. He ALWAYS gets what He wants. Always.
In the Book of Matthew (12: 31-32), we read, “Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.
what IS blasphemy against the spirit?
at the extreme, this is fixed position of SATAN. His heart was hardened to the point that he REFUTED the absolute power of GOD. Satan claims and pronounces a repudiation to the perfect power of God. As such Satan’s sin is unforgivable. And the bible is very clear there is a permanent penalty for such a hardened heart AND AGENDA.
Those that REFUSE to acknowledge God. Those that actively campaign to infect others with the wickedness of their own hearts and continue to rail against GOD. There is no space for them in the salvation made by Jesus Christ.
This is how I have always understood it.
EVIL….it does exist…and in this context, it is an unforgivable sin.
The implication is that one who has committed the unforgiveable sin is not accidently saying some particular set of words, but is willfully rejecting the Lord. Notice, furthermore, that Numbers 15:31 adds, “because he has despised the Word of the Lord.” What is at issue is not just a word passing over someone’s lips, but a more fundamental posture of despising what God has revealed.
It’s not a question of whether they will do it, it’s a matter of WHEN.
Bingo. Do it on this side of eternity & Jesus is your Savior. Do it on the other side & He will be your Judge.
Universalism is a damnable doctrine.
“…whether they came to believe it or not”
Do you realize the full implication of those words?
“Away from me, I never knew you.”
Whatever works for ya.
Sorry you gotta half right
While it is true that God offers salvation to all men, the Bible also teaches that “All who call upon the Lord will shall be saved.” That scripture and many others throughout the Bible indicate that not “all” people will call upon Him.
God is a gentleman. He invites us everyone to come, but He forces Himself and His presence on no one. It is up to each individual person to either accept or reject Him.
“Every knee will bow
Every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.”
It is IMPOSSIBLE for ANYONE to refuse to confess. God will make all of us do it. He is sovereign. He ALWAYS gets what He wants.
Eph 1:11 – “[God] works ALL things according to the counsel of His own will.”
He “desires” that all men be saved. He gets what he wants.
Period.
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
I Corinthians 1:18 NKJV
If ALL will confess and be saved, then who is the Apostle Paul referring to as perishing?
KJV: “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow . . . and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Your quote has the helping verb “will” which leads to a grave error (pun intended). The meaning is clear with the verb “should.” Reread and note the difference.
It is not impossible to refuse to confess that Jesus is Lord. Sadly, people refuse every day and have refused Him across the ages and will continue to do so.
Yes, God “desires” that all men be saved, but it is His will to let each person make their own decision whether to accept the gift of His Son or not. God does not make us do what He wants as if we are programmable robots.
James 2:19
I don’t know what to make of Bob Dole’s service as Senator. His service as WWII vet is to be thanked and admired.
Here is an interesting take on Bob Dole (the politician) from one of the brain trust at Powerline.
“As senator Dole turned out to be a perfect example of a DC Republican suffering from the Stockholm Syndrome. Having fully assimilated the premises of Washington, there was seldom a budget cut he supported, or a proposed tax increase he didn’t like. And of course, a clear sign of Dole’s establishment leanings came from the “strange new respect” the media rewarded him with whenever he broke with Reagan,…”
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2013/05/the-dole-ful-countenance.php#disqus_thread
Thing about Reagan is that Reagan broke with Reagan as often as the RINO’s did.
AFTER he received the bullet.
Is that really necessary today?
Of course it isnt, Scarlett. But we have a good number of posters here who believe that their presence with us entitles them to act uncouth and uncivilized just because they can.
Did you say the same thing when Castro died?
Will you when Clinton/Clinton/Biden do?
Death doesn’t excuse one from their failings. Not everyone who dies is a “great guy” despite what people say during a eulogy.
Dole was part of the Big Club. There is nothing wrong with saying so.
On the flip side he supported Trump. That is also worthy of mention as he was just about the only Establishment figure to do so.
No manners, no class, to criticize a person publicly while family and friends mourn. Period.
Yeah, it feels like graffiti on a nice memorial post. Oh well. Americans are an outspoken lot – God love them.
Dole was a good military man, probably…but a crappy representative
for the American People.
His contribution was to “incremental leftist creep”,
and ever bigger Government, which has brought us to our current
economic and political situation.
I recall his referring to the ADA as his “defining moment” legislatively !?
Bob Dole…was a RINO, and saw government through the lens of leftists.
I remember him every time I orbit the supermarket parking lot
seeking a spot to park my car.
All those empty handicap spaces, close to the entrance,
evoke at times lewd epithets from my usually respectful lips.
Senator Dole was a Patriot. Rest In Peace sir.
Godspeed, Senator Dole. Well done, good and faithful servant.
Thank you for your service Bob!! R.I.P.
Love you and Godspeed, Bob Dole. WWII vets are unlike anyone Gen Z or the Millenial generation has ever seen. Word is bond and you say it and back it up. Walk the line.
Dole stood for America’s promise to keep the world safe. Those were the days. He and the Greatest Generation kept their word and rebuilt Europe and Japan.
Today we can’t keep our own streets safe and simply lie about a peace that doesn’t exist. Dole was a light.
I will never forget a campaign event on Long Island in 1996…
As his Limo was leaving the airport, he spotted me in the crowd wearing a Dole/Kemp cap…
He stopped the car and waved me over to shake his hand, and exchange a few words.
The last of a great generation…R.I.P Senator Dole
The only past GOP nominee for President that actually endorsed PDJT.
Fair winds and following seas Bob Dole.
How interesting that Norm MacDonald and Bob Dole pass within weeks of each other.
I think it is more interesting that Robert Dole and Edward Shames died at the same time. Two WWII Heroes.
https://dailycaller.com/2021/12/05/edward-shames-easy-company-dead-99-world-war-ii/
“How ironic” would have better expressed it.
https://www.cjonline.com/story/news/state/2021/02/18/bob-dole-hand-pen-reminder-wwii-wounds/4493074001/
FTA “Dole deployed to Italy as a second lieutenant in the Army’s 10th Mountain Division in late 1944. Dole on April 14, 1945, led an assault on Hill 913 north of Castel D’Aiano, with the soldiers taking heavy artillery and aerial fire. When he saw a fellow soldier go down, Dole went to help pull him into a manhole, and as he scrambled out, he felt a sharp sting in his shoulder.
Dole collapsed onto the battlefield, and it was nine hours before medics could evacuate him to a field hospital. He would spend the next two and a half years at the Percy Jones Army Medical Center in Battle Creek, Mich., in a head-to-hip plaster cast, having lost a kidney and full use of his right arm.
“For nearly a year, I couldn’t feed myself. I had to learn to walk and dress myself all over again,” Dole previously told The Topeka Capital-Journal.”
The two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster Senator Dole received were real unlike the loathsome John Kerry!
Beyound his politics, we have few left like him, dammit we need them again.
hard times make hard men
hard men make good times
good times make weak men
weak men make hard times
where are we in this cycle
hopefully to make hard men like bob dole again, we need them

RIP to a good Man
10th Mountain Division and blown up by shellfire. That’s what you call a tough old bird. Amazing he made it to 98. RIP
Any man that could handle the 10th mountain deserves great respect.
My uncle was in the 10th and when Dole ran for President he went the Jackson, NH as a campaign stop, which is where my uncle and aunt lived. Course, they went to the event. It was a highlight for my uncle, who was in the ski corps in the 10th. That’s a whole story!
I did not know he was pro-MAGA. Thanks for sharing that.
R.I.P. Bob Dole
Thanks for your Service to the USA
SALUTE
A true Patriot!
In the waning hours of his 1996 quest to dislodge Bill Clinton from the White House, Bob Dole simply lost it one day. At a rally in Houston, Dole recited a litany of Clinton administration abuses, fundraising scandals, and assorted controversies before launching into an irate mantra: “Where’s the outrage?” – Carl M. Cannon RCP Staff May 31, 2015
Well Senator Dole we will carry on waiting for the outrage that never really came! The Tea Party was as close as anything to a public outrage over the massive corruption and wasteful spending in/of our Federal government! The election and reelection (denied by massive vote fraud) of President Trump was also a response to Senator Dole’s “outrage”! RIP Senator Dole!
“Where’s the outrage?”
The same question that many of us were asking!! Even though I think he got the nod in 1996 because it was “his turn” he was always an honorable man. I wonder how much grief the world would have been spared if he and Jack Kemp had won.
Instead, Bill and Hill sold the White House (and the country) to the Chinese, in exchange for enough money to fund their re-election campaign, which of course led to China being allowed into the WTO…and here we are now, 25 years later and look how that one campaign has rippled throughout the world and led to so much destruction and corruption!
RIP Senator Dole…thank you for your service and your sacrifice!
Even though he was baited and pushed by the traitor RINO’s & the Neo-Soviet Heritage America hating media to “Saul Alinsky” his Presidential candidate rival Make America First Again Pat Buchanan (the prophet) he never did. I always respected him for that and his military service. Salute
RIP. Comfort and acceptance for his family.
I was never a fan of him politically but his heroism cannot be denied. And I’ll never forget him standing, with help because he was wheelchair-bound, at Bush 41’s funeral as a gesture of respect for a fellow World War Two vet.
Thank you for your service Bob.
God bless you for your service Mr. Dole!
“The best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.”
The Gambler
RIP Mr. Dole
2nd best way !
My condolences to the family. He gave more than could have been expected. He was of my Father’s generation, in fact Dad’s birth year. They truly were of the “Greatest Generation.”
Remember in the campaign for president how he fell from a stage due to loose railing and almost did himself in? Swine media played it repeatedly to give the impression he wasn’t fit to serve. He bounced right back but you weren’t shown that.
RIP soldier.
First saw him when he came to my high school as the GOP Vice-Presidential candidate in 1976. Thank you for your service.
God bless Bob Dole
His 1996 campaign website (still online) is on of the oldest on the internet
http://www.dolekemp96.org/main.htm
The question is will his body be paraded across the nation like John Lewis?
Methinks you are referring to saint george. if I remember correctly Lewis had one funeral in his home state. Saint george had four funerals in four states.
To be able to know what PDJT said to dole would be priceless
Condolences to Mrs. Dole and the family. Rest in peace Senator Dole.
Mr Dole should receive all McCain did in celebrating his life and more.
3 funerals; lie in state at the Capitol; burial procession fit for a Head of State; bellowing whale delivering eulogy; politicized media circus. Dole has way more class and humility than McCain. Hopefully he will be appropriately remembered and humbly returned to the Lord.
Bob Dole was much worthier than Songbird ObamaCare McQaeda was. McCain would have been pummeled if he wasn’t transferred off of the USS Forestal
https://www.eastonspectator.com/2018/08/26/navy-releases-mccains-records-mccain-was-personally-responsible-for-the-deadliest-fire-in-the-history-of-the-us-navy/
Please… let President Trump give the eulogy. Keep Brandon away.
I remember.. we won Texas for him..
I happen to run across him at the Houston Intercontinental Airport.. he was sitting alone by himself..
So I got up, walked over and sat next to him.. I sensed he was a little somewhat apprehensive as I approached.. averting eye contact..
I could understand that though.. being a politician they never know if you are a good guy.. or a bad guy.. or both..
but i went over, sat down and introduced myself anyway..
I engaged in a brief easy session of some Texan small talk.. avoiding politics.. to try and ease his subtle social interpersonal engagement discomfort..
I then ended our short but pleasant conversation to alleviate him of his apprehension..
I remember.. he was a polite man..
R.I.P.
From what I understand the Senator was just another RINO who ended up being just another professional politician who was one of those who helped sell this country’s manufacturing to China.
But then it’s money that corrupts and absolutely so.
DC is the feeding trough.
Say what you will about his politics, he was a good man. Does anybody ever agree 100% with anybody else on politics?
Bob Dole was a patriot and a very tough guy. May he rest in peace.
He was part of a Party that no longer exists. God Bless You Senator Dole.
Say what you will about Bob Dole but I think he instinctively knew where Donald J.Trump wanted to take America and the people of this nation. That magical time post WWII when America could do anything and its economic engine couldn’t be throttled down. Maybe thats why the other scum bags wouldnt endorse Trump. They view America as just another nation in its twilight and Red China in the ascendancy.
“red China in the ascendancy” Yeah thanks to traitors in the media,Democrat & Rino republican parties. China was given or stolen all of our tech. They are not innovators, they are copiers, & modifiers. They would not be in the position they are now, if not for high treason within the US. Bushes & Clintons immediately spring to mind, CFR comrade traitors
One of the last of the breed: a patriot, a gentleman and a leader. We are poorer today as a result of his loss. RIP Senator Dole
May perpetual light shine upon Bob Dole. An American Senator who actually loved America.
RIP President Dole. Has President Trump put out a statement yet? I don’t expect to hear a thing that is meaningful from The Occupant. He’s so out of it that he probably wonders why all of us Right Wingers are paying homage to a pineapple.
He was an honorable and courageous man.
We are sorely in need of more like him.
RIP
I appreciate Bob Dole embracing President Trump. Some of us remember that after loosing his campaign to become President, Senator Dole became the poster geezer for Viagra. Apparently; it finally took effect.
May the good Lord receive Bob as he should be. Meanwhile may the good lord hold all of Bob’s family and friends in His loving comforting heal hands.
To me, Senator Dole always came across as a decent man and obviously respected the institution to which he was elected for multiple terms. I disagreed with his politics on several issues over the years but I believe he was a bedrock middle class American** who assumed others in Congress respected the Constitution and the freedoms it provided. In that assumption, Sen. Dole was wrong.
His late endorsement of President Trump was evidence that he was smart enough to realize the Democrats had made a seriously wrong turn, and that the GOP had stumbled in its duties to protect the superiority of the Constitution.
But this year he asserted that PDJT has genuinely lost the 2020 election and that RudyGiuliani had no evidence of election fraud. IMHIO that opinion was likely formed by his relying on filtered information and false narratives from GOP Establishment types with whom he still communicated.
RIP Senator Dole.
** his Kansas home:
he was 98…
you lose much in your step at that age.
how many 98 year olds are capable of seeing things clearly, especially given the entire media propaganda and every nearly every social media echo chambers propaganda.?
dole was a very powerful and unusually effective politician by any account. But he is still a man and age catches up.
to be fair, I am sure if we all took an honest poll, at least half of the nitwit uniparty members would claim everything to be on the up and up.
and these are people of which the age factor cannot be used as an excuse.
and noting…and I’m not pulling punches when I say this. Dole likely supported President Trump because hillary and biden are just about the worst kinds of candidates his generation completely LOATHE…feckless, two timing, scumbags neither of which have every paid a single cost or respect to the military in any meaningful way.
it’s likely he would have supported just about anyone other than those two jackwagons.
jmho
All very reasonable points, regitiger.
“IMHIO that opinion was likely formed by his relying on filtered information and false narratives from GOP Establishment types with whom he still communicated.”
Totally agree. For that I will let him be. I pray he knew the Lord Jesus as his savoir. May he rest in peace.
RIP Bob Dole – the first Republican I wouldn’t vote for. I admire him for serving his country, but being in the military doesn’t mean you’ll automatically be a good politician. Dole was a RINO before RINOs were cool.
Posting at the Treehouse doesn’t mean you’re automatically a patriot, either.
My sweet friend Bob Dole is now with his parents and sisters Gloria and Norma Jean.
God bless your soul and Rest in Eternal Peace.
Condolences to all who loved and admired him, especially Elizabeth.

“Doing the right thing isn’t easy, that’s why we have to try and do it all the time.” – Robert Dole
Bob Dole also had a terrific sense of humor. Some of the things he said remind me of Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana but without the folksiness.
