New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney was a likely candidate to become the Democrat candidate for governor in New Jersey, as he has deep political connections and decades inside the Garden State political machine. However, Edward Durr was fed up with the ridiculous COVID dictates from the governor’s office, and the non-response from any political office to push back against the nonsense. So, he decided to take a stand.
Specifically, because he knew his neighborhood was frustrated with the politics of COVID and the manipulative rules, Edward Durr decided the district needed another option and ran against Sweeney for the State Senate seat. Mr. Durr has stunned the political establishment with a genuine grassroots campaign that has likely defeated the second most powerful office holder in New Jersey. WATCH:
(Via Politico) “I kept telling myself and telling people I was going to do it, but in the back of my mind I was like, ‘You know, how am I going to beat the Senate president?” said Durr, who ran unsuccessfully for Assembly in 2019 and has never held elected office.
But Durr said that as he sat in his living room with his family Tuesday night as the results rolled in, it dawned on him that there was a decent chance he‘d soon be a member of the state Senate. “My daughter was sitting next to me. She laughed at me and said ‘Dad, you’ve got tears running down my face,” Durr said Wednesday morning.
Durr, a 58-year-old father of three and grandfather of six who grew up in South Jersey and lives in Logan Township, estimates he spent less than $10,000 on the race. By contrast, in 2017, when the New Jersey Education Association, state’s largest teachers union, was feuding with Sweeney, it spent about $5.4 million to take him out, yet he still won by 18 points.
This was a far different electorate, with Republican districts and those with large blue collar populations turning out in droves for Republicans.
It wasn’t just Sweeney. Durr’s Assembly running mates, Bethanne McCarthy Patrick and Beth Sawyer, appeared on track to defeat incumbents John Burzichelli and Adam Taliaferro (both D-Gloucester).
Durr said Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy’s coronavirus executive orders, vaccine and school mask, unemployment benefits snafus and a general distrust of the South Jersey Democratic machine that has dominated the region for years all contributed to his strong performance.
Sweeney, Durr said, “never challenged” Murphy during the pandemic.
“You have the debacle of unemployment. The masking of the kids in school. You have Senator Sweeney trying to take away peoples’ medical freedom rights,” Durr said. “I think the perfect storm was that he stepped into a pile of you-know-what and couldn’t get out of it because he didn’t know which way to turn. Jersey is totally corrupt. Has been for as long as I can remember. Back in the 50’s and 60’s, the mob had major operations and influence, gambling being their major money maker. Government saw all that money, and decided to compete with the mob and started the lottery. NJ was one of the first states with a lottery. They also had at least 4 racetracks (horse) that were going strong, still not enough, Atlantic City was reborn into another cash machine for the state. The revenue coming into the state was/is incredible. Where is it? Property taxes, sales tax, state income tax, “moving tax” all high. Teachers and unions have a deathgrip on this state. The teachers, firefighters and cops (retired and active) own more homes at the Jersey shore than any other demographic and that has been true for decades.

For once in so MANY YEARS as I go to sleep I remember the prayer, “God is in his heaven and all is right with the world.” The Left was sucker-punched in my own county and all across my home state of PA which I guess, is turning so RED. As are the school board victories. Here in Massachusetts, a teacher fired for being photographed at the J6 event won a seat on the school board which fired him.
These are examples of how the average American has woken up, re-engaged in local civics, and started to reclaim the act governing from the professional political class.

We had one of the J6 attendees running in our (PA) local elections against an incumbent D. Their entire campaign was labeling him a terrorist. He was defeated in a HUGE way by the D. I live in Northampton County, which has been trending blue, then Trump surprisingly won it in his first election which really put him over the top in PA. Since then, we have lost many R seats, locally, state houses and judges.
I see no change in the trend of PA turning blue. I look at our number of Rs in 2010 in our state houses, judiciary and executives vs today and it’s not a conservative trend. I may be missing something and welcome what others are seeing.
So the GOP now has 213 seats in the US House of Representatives. That’s five people away from halting the democratic socialist agenda and sending Nasty Pelosi back to clean out her personal wine storage locker, otherwise known as the Speaker’s Office.

My husband is third gen Jerseyian. Our kids were born there. I often say that I have never met a better group than Jersey people bc they have big hearts and stab you in the heart, not the back. Opposite of California where they smile like Pelosi and you are dead before you hit the floor. Jersey is, according to an old pol I know the most corrupt state, however.
I have seen beautiful towns destroyed by “affordable housing,” I have been threatened by a cop when I politely said that I did actually stop at a stop sign that I knew (didn’t tell him I knew!) was a trap bc it was at a T with only option a left turn, got my only speeding ticket from another town’s speed trap. You must tip everyone from postal workers to delivery men from furniture stores. Forget to tip at Christmas? You don’t get mail in box until next Christmas. Princeton and nearby area used to be idyllic and is now a crazy mishmash of curry joints and Macawber’s book store is long gone. Only Main Street and mighty multi million dollar mansions remain.
The beautiful North Jersey mountain communities are no longer safe and sweet. The local gov accepted funding from down below to bring in people who mingle with gangs on weekends. Schools? Ha! I was threatened and thankfully I ducked when a gay gym teacher threw a punch in the office bc he misunderstood what I said to the secretary (if I give you a check now, can he buy lunch today? Yesterday he didn’t get lunch?) bc they were on a tear about my kid. I was afraid for his safety after that. Who swings at a 5’3” mom? Angry, dangerous bullies.
They don’t have to have degree in education, just qualify in their subjects. Our town school was filled with people who couldn’t hack commercial businesses. All Union, not interested in teaching, meaner ‘n snakes. We bounced out to PA after a year. We spoke to attorney and it’s a racket; pay lawyers to get school to treat your kid ok or go to private Catholic school or move. Durr said 7/10 moves are out of Jersey. Scandals abt AP classes, unqualified teachers, new kids from Newark, why stay? My hubs told me ‘schools here are prisons, I fought everyday as a kid.’ It is why I related to Trump; my husband grew up in suburb of NYC where you always stand up or get beaten. Every day.

Talked with my 80 year old Aunt from Wisconsin – she sounds like she could be your sister. You all were blessed to live when america was great…hardwork, community, prayer, family and a government that wasn’t inside the arse of the CCP.

Pepper, you quite accurately paint the picture. I grew up just outside of Newark with most of my family living in Newark. Perfectly safe to walk those streets, even as children, back then. Not all neighborhoods, but where we lived and worked it was functioning, middle class, working families, businesses, restaurants, local bars where we could grab a bag of chips, a soda and hang outside while dad had a beer. Dad preached it back then. He owned a business and said the government was intentionally wiping out the middle class. He also saw the erosion of personal property rights. He literally, physically, threw a building inspector out of our home. After that incident, he declared “We don’t really own anything anymore”. That was back in the 60’s.
Did a similar move to PA. Big disappointment here also. Too many Jersey transplants!

A few years ago, I had a friend in Maryland run for state senate in a stalwart D district simply to offer the people an alternative. She spent $1000 on her campaign and got about 30% of the vote. It seems like more citizens may need to put their hats in the rings.

Even if this trucker is just another RINO plant, and I’m not saying I know who he is, one way or the other, the *idea* of the outlier gaining traction is all that is needed to spark the *real* deal. Since 2016, I’ve been waiting for the usual talking heads to promote bonafide MAGA people (outside of their UNiparty apparatchik) .. but so far I’ve yet to be impressed.
That’s because MAGA has to come from us truck drivers and fed-up parents and red hat graduate students and carpenters.

In some areas of the country where the Republican Party is dead (e.g. Toledo here in Ohio is a good example) that is the only option. I do not believe too many Conservatives have thought of that, but it is precisely what Conservatives needed to do in Toledo, if they had the idea of running e.g. for a city council seat.
DEMS had a long-time lock on everything, so you needed to infiltrate their ranks. When it happened, there was a furor of course! 🙂

I said the same last year. AOC knocked off a long term congressman with 11,000 votes in her first dem primary. For sure they will come after any challenger with the long knives, but I think it can be done. I suspect many Democrat aren’t happy voting for the bat-shit crazy progressives, but will not vote for any candidate without a (D) behind their name. The primary is the place to do it because turnout is usually low. In open primary state deep blue states the R should vote in the (D) primaries. In deep blue districts they should change to (D) and get MAGA candidates elected.
Make MAGA bipartisan! Give the Democrat electorate an alternative and make the incumbent Democrat explain to the Democrat electorate what is unwholesome about an America First agenda. They will sink themselves because they are peddling a bad product and it’s becoming more apparent everyday.
After first getting rid of the Democrat hold on congress, Slate535 needs to happen with vetted MAGA candidates in every primary, even if these candidates need to run in the Democrat primaries in deep blue areas.

The guy challenged the vote signatures of the “establishment -marxist” Democrat, and he was thrown off the ballot and he became the Democrat candidate for Congress! Guess what happened? The Rino Republicans were ordered by the same Lobbyists who control the Democrat-Marxists to ban together and destroy his candidacy. They even bussed in brainwashed communist kids from Rutgers! I can imagine that if I ran for office, every student who did not do well in my classes would be tracked down and offered a bribe to speak against me…and you only need one to make some lying, outrageous charge that – supposedly – happened 30 or 40 years ago.
I am reminded of a very nice, elderly priest, still teaching in his 70’s, whose life was destroyed during the “clerical abuse” scandals by the claim from…a 90-year old woman in a nursing home who got it into her head that her son had committed suicide 50 years earlier because this priest had “done something to him.”
One can imagine how e.g. hearing CNN at the home constantly at that time could have planted the idea. This was a priest who had taught without one hint, not one scintilla of scandal around him for 50 years (I taught with him for half of that time), whose office door was always open, and whose students in Mathematics – including both of my sons – sang his praises.
Nevertheless, without any proof this claim ruined him: he disappeared from the school, removed by his order to a monastery, no hearing, nothing. No criminal charges were filed because the supposed victim was dead.
NOT ONE former student came forward to claim abuse, but many did come forward to defend him. It did not matter.
Rush Limbaugh often quoted John Kerry and other DEMS about an allegation being evidence: “the seriousness of the charge” was enough to disqualify Clarence Thomas from the Supreme Court!

Ausonius — I live in NE Ohio (Willoughby). Blystone, a farmer running for Ohio governor, seems like he may be a MAGA kind of fellow. A number of my friends really like him, and so far, I like a lot of what I’m reading about him. I’m not crazy about Jim Renaicci… he ran a really weak campaign against Sherrod Brown, and then blamed everyone else for it. Just curious what you — or any other Ohioans — are hearing about Blystone… thanks!
P.S. Your idea about conservatives infiltrating the Dem party stronghold is interesting — I wonder if that would work for Cleveland city politics (mayor, etc.) Not sure if a real conservative has ever have considered a run there, or if they just assume it wouldn’t work without trying…

Blystone signs are everywhere in small-town Ohio over here in central/northwest Ohio. There is visible enthusiasm.
I have read some articles claiming he is a huckster, did not support the Heartbeat Bill, did not register to vote for President Trump, and then others claiming that the articles are biased and examples of RINO’s trying to stop a Conservative.
So let’s say the jury is still debating!

And yes, thank you — Renacci was awful, which is why the thought of voting for him for governor now leaves me cold. I knew people who wanted to volunteer to help campaign for him last time, and they left messages that were never returned. It’s like he wanted to lose.
I also follow his posts on facebook — he likes to take the temperature of the crowd a lot. And he puts down DeWine (easy to do) without offering better solutions or a real plan. But it seems like he parrots a lot of things that conservatives like to hear, and has a Greek chorus that posts a lot of atta-boys, so that and his name recognition may put him ahead. Blystone seems more authentic to me — like that NJ truck driver that just defeated the Democratic Senate president. We’ll see what happens…
Don’t expect ANY politician to give us any direction, let alone a road map. Did one single party member or leader endorse Durr? Whoever remained silent is not fighting for us.

The dump represented 16% of the total vote in Bergen County. The percentage flipped from 52%-48% in favor of Ciattarelli to 52%-48% for Murphy. Nearly 32,000 votes went to Murphy while 10,000 went to Ciattarelli. Murphy gained 22,000 votes in Bergen alone. Where else was this done? Audit New Jersey.
If this is known now, I would think criminal charges are in order.
And who’s going to hear the case? What bought-off court, what compromised judge, is going to rule in “our” favor?

They miraculously found 40k votes to steal the election for Governator.
That Durr did his homework aforehand is not emphasized enough. This was more than just being pissed and finally deciding to do something. He did research and saw an opportunity. He noted to a local reporter yesterday that out of a district with 150K registered voters, Sweeney had never garnered more than 31K in any election. Durr figured under the current climate it wouldn’t take much to beat that figure.
It helped that Sweeney didn’t take the challenge seriously…

I live in NJ3 and voted for Mr. Durr, but was surprised as almost everyone else when he trounced Steve Sweeney, who is a real “institution” around here. He even had the route 322 bypass in Mullica Hill named after himself. It wasn’t even that close. Sometimes you can fight City Hall and win. Kudos to Ed Durr!
