Sad news from Florida…. major prayers extended!
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis released the following statement regarding First Lady Casey DeSantis:
“I am saddened to report that Florida’s esteemed First Lady and my beloved wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady. As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state. Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up.” – Governor Ron DeSantis
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, 43, won the 2018 election to become the sunshine state’s 46th governor. He and his wife, Casey Black DeSantis, 41, are parents to three young children: Madison, born in 2016, Mason, born in 2018, and Mamie, who was born in March 2020.
Sending prayers up. At a loss for words right now. Just reflecting and praying….
Prayers for the DeSantis family and their Doctors, in Jesus name. AMEN
Joining you in prayer for the good health and healing of Casey DeSantis.
Please Pray for Casey DeSantis.
Please know we all are praying for Casey and the family.
I have hunch on here- it’s automatic. <3
Prayers lifted for healing, discernment, peace and strength
On a national level rather than a personal one, and the personal is very important: this development removes him from a run near-term, potentially.
No it doesnt
Why? Hey, John McCain had skin cancer, and he still ran.
Biden is severely hobbled by senility and diminished brain function & he is POTUS!
Perhaps a cold-blooded comment, but we are emerging from an ephemeral time of huge delusion and frivolity. The post-Second World War bubble that Americans enjoyed most definitely must end. Suffering will only increase..
Our greatest Presidents knew pain and human suffering. Lincoln lost a child while in the White House. Teddy Roosevelt lost his wife and mother, on the same day. FDR contracted polio, and battled it heroically for the remainder of his life. Pain builds character.
DeSantis’s destiny is being shaped. Callously, pain will help him distinguish the important from the trivial. We no longer have the room, the breathing space as a country for silly people like Obama. The post-Second World War holiday from history is over. We now need leaders with gravitas.
Beautifully said.
And there is no doubt that Ron DeSantis is being tested in ways he never could have imagined just a couple of years ago. I pray to G-d that he is able to find all the strength he needs as he navigates these harrowing waters, from having a wife and the mother of his three children being diagnosed with breast cancer, to leading Florida through these unprecedented times, and beyond….
Teddy Roosevelt went through his cowboy period, then became probably the most popular President in American history.
What can save America? Victimhood plays in modern America.
I suspect strong leadership will play in America far more than the Left suspects. Benign leadership, benevolent dictatorship, big brother is coveted.
She’s got this
So Sorry to hear this..Prayers for her and for the entire family. They are doing so much now with breast cancer..I pray..she will be healed through..our beloved Lord and savior…and she makes a quick recovery..God bless the entire family
Amen ! I unite to your beautiful prayer for 1st Fl. Lady Casey DeSantis and all women going through the same.
I don’t understand why this had to be announced. Isn’t breast cancer treatment really advanced nowadays?
I believe the public announcement allows for many more prayer warriors, and we all understand the power of prayer. I feel there will be millions praying for Casey DeSantis. ❤️?
That makes sense.
When two or three are gathered together…can you imagine how loud it will be with millions of voices raised in prayer and supplication?
I will never, ever understand why God would treat a dying lonely person with not a single other soul to pray for them differently than someone widely loved who has millions praying for them?
He wouldn’t, Boogywstew. His mercies are to all and are everlasting.
I know of one commenter on another site who was dying with pancreatic cancer and lymphoma. He lives by himself. Millions weren’t praying for his good health, but God did perform a miracle. He is now and suddenly cancer free. Even his doctors can’t explain it.
I have a lovely prayer in my treasured Book of Common Prayer specifically for those who are neglected and forgotten. So when I pray that one prayer for all in that position, I know I’m heard by Him. Remember, God knows what we need before we ask. It doesn’t start with a prayer. Whether we are alone or surrounded by others who know us, He hears.
Yes Betsy amen. That is so good
GODS unfailing love
It is Grammy, even if our prayers aren’t answered exactly as we would wish , but in a different way…God’s purposeful way. But no prayer is ignored. None.
We have to look deeper to understand God’s higher ways (Isaiah 55), but He does not love or treat an individual who is lonely with less concern. The lonely soul who touched Jesus’ garment was healed immediately (Luke 8:44).
That being said, people who are prayed for in mass sometimes still die…like TV preacher James Robison’s daughter Robin. Some mysteries about prayer, life and death won’t be answered down here.
I do really believe that if huge numbers of Christians would pray together in unity about all the things we discuss here every day, we would see miracles. And I will pray for the DeSantis family. We all need prayer.
Prayer warriors around the world pray for those who are sick and lonely. They may not know them by name but they pray for those nonetheless.
The Holy Spirit will do the rest.
This “news” was announced by the DeSantis family since it was going to be announced. They announced it rather than allow the “sympathetic, fair and balanced national media” to announce it.
People die from breast cancer everyday
And a lot more survive a lot longer because of advances in surgeries and treatments.
Yet millions survive.
It many many dont
Yes, breast cancer treatment is really advanced. I was diagnosed in 2016 with a very aggressive version in a very early stage. They (the oncology team) went after it with “the big guns”, as they said. The next fifteen months included surgery, heavy chemo, and radiation, and I had the highest possible outcome. The significant chemo component that probably saved my life had only been approved for use 2-3 years earlier. Lots of advances being made.
I learned some things that had to do with reality during those long months, one of them being this: I had no ability to fight cancer. My primary responsibility was to show up for every appointment on time. The oncology team fought the cancer. I was intrigued to observe how that worked, and it relieved me of the false responsibility that I had to “fight cancer”. I did not. That was their job. That’s what they are paid for.
This didn’t have to be announced, but their extended family is reeling right now. Because of the very high profile nature of their life these days, it is far less stressful for them, both short term and long term, to lay it on the table so they can, to put it bluntly, get on with their lives. If they did not announce it, the prowling questions and endless speculation would be far more exhausting that this is.
What a brilliant post and personal story you shared
Sharon, I hope you’re doing well now.
I believe one DOES have the ability to fight cancer. It’s the victims’ job to seek out the best treatment, as well as to have a positive attitude and outlook.
For me, prayer played a big role. Soon I will start my 25th year in my war against colon and liver, Stage 4 cancer…to say nothing about neuropathies, heart disease, diabetes, high BP, et al.
And victims should not be afraid to seek other opinions. Had I listened to my “team of specialists,” I’d have expired 20 or so years ago. We each need to go with our own “informed” opinion.
Prayers and best wishes for Mrs. DeSantis.
Couldn’t agree with you more – it is a sad reality that most of us have lost or forgotten that the mind is a extremely powerful “tool” in our arsenal. It literally has to power to manifest “itself” in physical “dimensions” – mind over matter if you will. Naturally this must be combined with solid common sense, sensible diet, exercise, a healthy lifestyle, and the willingness to research in order to find the best suitable overall treatment. Of paramount importance is that the patient agrees, is willing and probably most important, has faith and a positive outlook – no matter.
I agree with you. I have been dealing with an aggressive breast cancer for about a year now and doing well because I sought out other opinions and information than just what was given by my oncologist. I could write a lot about it, but I’ll keep it short. One thing that I’ve learned is that doctors suppress effective treatments for cancer the same as they’re doing with covid, if those treatments are not part of standard protocol. There is a world of information out there that you won’t hear about in your doctor’s office. I am taking an integrative approach at this point, trying to get the best of both worlds. Sending prayers for Casey DeSantis as she and the family deal with this.
Thank you for sharing!!
I disagree, and yes I had breast cancer, the Drs are part of my team but I am the head of that team and I have to make the right choices to continue to live cancer free like weight loss, medication management, exercise etc
I agree with everything you say, and also practiced all of the things that others have said. All of the good things recommended and described are part of my everyday life. I did not start praying and believing and trusting and practicing good daily health because of the diagnosis. When it came to responding to the diagnosis, I kept doing all the things I had been doing for decades/a lifetime, and thought that the oncologists were the ones to send up to bat in direct confrontation.
It was/is my good blessing to have been associated for years with a major teaching hospital and with a variety of available oncology centers so many of those things were in place.
24 months before I was diagnosed, my husband died four months after being diagnosed with primary liver cancer. My brother who had survived prostate cancer twice and who had lost his wife to breast cancer after a ten year effort was on hand both when my husband was diagnosed and when I was diagnosed… to give practical advice and pray with us and for us. My oldest brother died of lung cancer about six months ago. Another sister-in-law died of breast cancer. Another brother died of pancreatic cancer.
The best advice my brother gave me was, “Always keep in mind, they won’t tell you anything you don’t know enough to ask.” After months of personal acquaintance with a variety of specialists, I ran that statement by a couple of them and asked if it was a fair suggestion: they said it was. Good to know. My personal engagement with both survivable and not-survivable cancers in my immediate family goes back over sixty years.
In my initial comment. I made no effort to relate everything about the endless journey(s) I am still on because it was my intention to respond specifically to one comment.
Sharon, what you shared is truly powerful and a story so full of loss and personal strength…
Thank you for sharing Sharon. And yes even tho treatment is so much more advanced than even ten years ago, it is still a long and difficult journey.
Mrs Bugs was diagnosed when she was 40. Chemo, surgery, and radiation all take time. In her case we were fully involved with oncology team for two years. What does this mean you ask? It means going to the cancer center 5 days a week for about 6 months. Then going once a week for the next 12 months or so. Even then, the visits only go down to once every 2 to 3 weeks. It is a long term ordeal. This doesn’t even communicate the pain, nausea, anxiety, or any of the other issues that go along with any long term treatment.
We were very fortunate in that we have a strong family base. A very strong and trustworthy oncologist. A beautiful, strong surgeon. Faith. Most importantly Faith. We lost Mrs Bugs not once, but twice in different surgeries. For some reason she doesn’t deal well with aenesthesia. Our surgeon knew that, prepared, and came into the Operating room fully armored in faith in our Lord and Savior.
So my heart and prayers go out to the Desantis family. And everyone who deals with illness like this. We can’t pray too much for any person going through this.
Yes, indeed, the journey is arduous. There is no getting around it. An excellent team of medical professionals is needed along with much help and support for the patient and their entire family. My heart breaks when I think of what Mrs. DeSantis is looking at right now, along with the governor and their children. Ron DeSantis has been dealing with so much since he took office and to have this happen to his wife is devastating.
I pray for all of them, that they find all the strength they need as they walk this long and difficult path. May they feel G-d’s blessings, and may Casey DeSantis be healed.
Thank you for an excellent post. I wish I could say “seen it, been there, done that,” but I’m still in the actively doing it stage with my oncology team. Your right about who does the work, although the side effects of treatment remove any doubts about my involvement in the process.
Your last paragraph reminds us that as an elected official he and his family do live life in a fish bowl. By making the announcement they can turn that attention into a net positive. An example being what we witness here with all the Treehouse members gathering their energy to show their support. I wonder how many will make a donation to cancer research in the name of First Lady Casey DeSantis.
Will look forward to a post from you in the future when you can check off the “done that” box. Until then, sending good wishes and prayers as you travel this path through treatment….
I thank you for your response. While stage 4 typically doesn’t bode well for long term optimism I still try to maintain some sense of hope about the future.
I pray you are surrounded by much love, support, and strength as you navigate these waters….
There are not only different stages of breast cancer, but also different kinds of breast cancer. In addition, the age when a women gets breast cancer is another variable that affects prognosis. I’m very sad to share that when women get breast cancer when they’re young (under the age of 40), it tends to be an aggressive form.
Pray, pray, pray, pray, pray……..
That said, I had a friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer in her mid-30’s and it was a very aggressive kind. It was a long and difficult battle. Doctors predicted she wouldn’t live more than a few years. She’s still here 25+ years later. Did it take a lot out of her? More than anyone could imagine. But she benefited from many medical advancements in the treatment for breast cancer including forms of chemo that are given long-term as it is then treated almost like a chronic illness. All of that said, it takes an enormous amount out of the person and their loved ones. Life-changing.
Prayers are needed and I believe they will be coming in from across the country and maybe even from around the world. Ron DeSantis has distinguished himself as a champion of freedom and would not be surprised if he weren’t beloved by freedom-loving peoples far and wide.
She’s 41
Because these days, ANYTHING that happens to a conservative in leadership will be spun by the media, including FAUX News, on the facts. It will be spread by the media falsely, pompously & self-righteously, as if she deserves to come down with the disease.
Women still die from this disease if it’s not caught in time, & then some still die if it is. The “treatment” is harsh…toxic chemicals, mastectomies, xrays, possible hysterectomies, etc.
If you don’t know any women who have or had breast cancer, you’re very lucky. Otherwise, you’re a tasteless jerk or worse a Democrat.
Advanced, but some of the treatments are very difficult and involve using chemicals/drugs that can make people sick.
It depends on the type, what stage, if it’s spread to the lymph nodes and the age of the patient. For example: If you are premenopausal, breast cancer is far more serious than post menopause due to hormones.
Governor DeSantis is a public figure, both State and National.
Casey’s treatments and recovery will be a team approach between herself, her Doctors, her Husband and extended family, and friends.
It takes the whole team to coordinate for her survival to become a reality.
And don’t forget their 3 very young children. Mommy’s absences will be difficult for them.
Knowing how the heartless Democrats and media would respond to her absences from the public, and the Governor’s adjusted schedules, it was imperative that he announce this heartbreaking news to prevent any disgusting media interpretation.
Oh, and that team includes we FLORIDIANS too.
We pray.
She has good husband who she can rely on going forward.
May the God of all mercy and grace provide her with strength, healing and the peace that can only come from God.
Yes she does.
I still have the note my husband attached to the refrigerator 8 years ago when I got the DX for a different cancer.
It said: “We will get through this together.” We did ! ❤️
A strong, loving partner is so important to getting through each day of treatments.
Prayers for a full recovery
?
Prayer teams notified.
God Bless America
Prayers for her and her entire family.
Beautiful photo of Mom and her children…thanks so much, Sundance.
Do we know what stage her cancer is in?
None of anyone’s business, but the family . Sorry, retired RN whose niece was diagnosed early at age 40. She’s alive and well at 51. Be hopeful, it’s an almost impossible journey to comprehend.
Oh shut up I’m a working RN and cancer survivor so let me repeat
Shut up
Well, sorta rude reply, don’t you think?
Agreed.
It’s a fine line public figures walk regarding how much to share about personal information like this while dealing w/all the noise that inevitably swirls around inquiring into details that are not appropriate or necessary to be shared. In this day and age with social media and privacy taking on new meaning, the media and the public at large have a seemingly insatiable appetite for “news” that, as you say, is none of their business.
I remember when Trump was hospitalized w/covid, I even thought a lot of the details about his condition that were being demanded were out of line. Did he need oxygen, etc? Big picture, he was the President, he was apparently sick enough that he needed to be hospitalized, we received updates, and could know we had a system in place for chain of command in worse case scenarios.
With respect to Ron DeSantis, I don’t think he owes anyone additional information at all. This is his family and as long as he is able to do his job, then it’s a private matter. And, Lord knows, an exceedingly hard one at that. As you so perfectly said: “it’s an almost impossible journey to comprehend.”
They are probably still reeling. It more than likely it took all the strength he had left after the shocking diagnosis to get the news out.
Yes, and imagine his worry for many days knowing there was something suspicious and waiting for news. It’s a beyond awful time…. not knowing…. then finding out…
That’s one of the worst parts…the not knowing but perhaps suspecting, waiting for the hammer to drop.
And yet he carried on in public never giving a suspicion that anything was wrong. He’s a strong man. And he’ll be strong for her and the children. And God will absolutely be with them.
Thanks for your reply , I meant no harm. Had no idea the time I posted that Sandra was a cancer survivor, however given the statistics there isn’t a woman who doesn’t know at least 6 or more friends and/ or family with the diagnosis. The outcomes have changed much more toward the postitive, but still overwhelming to say the least. Yearly mammogram Wednesday. Like most women I hold my breath every year.
A lot of times it is not truly known until surgery. Before that it is speculation.
Not really
Well a biopsy may reveal type but if one does have a lumpectomy or mastectomy the pathologist will determine stage. After surgery my results came back that I had 6 tumors. Stage1A grade 2.
and just a precaution none of the tumors showed up on a mammogram.
I think I did hundreds of hours of research and in conjunction with my surgeon came up with a plan.
even so the cancer came back 2 more times. Took care of that and I’ve been cancer free for 5 years
I pray that Mrs DeSantis has an easy time of it and a perfect outcome.
My mother in law beat BC; we have never had great medicines and treatments like we have today.
You can beat it too!
Interesting how stuff like this never happens to the opposition.
Hmmmm…or maybe they keep the truth hidden, just like everything else…..
It happens plenty to the opposition. I do not wish it on anyone…and I’m sure you don’t either.
Praying! May the Lord, the Great Physician, be with you and bring you through this challenge. May the earthly doctors have all of the wisdom and skill that man can possess as they are consulted for treatment.
This is sad ,
But we have to be careful with the pink ribbon lie.
Remember Susan Komen withdrew her funding for planed parent hoods and was beaten and clubbed into restoring it , as there is no bigger data bank on abortion then in China who kills 40 out of a hundred baby’s , with one abortion a 44% risk of breast cancer79%to 84% with two an 3, it’s important to point out that
Chinese researchers and physicians are unencumbered by abortion politics, and do not cover up data showing long term effects of induced abortion, as do their US counterparts in governmental, professional and consumer organizations.
I am making no correlation with Casey and pray
O Blood and Water ….
Prayers to the entire DeSantis family
A few thoughts:
Truly devastating news! Please, Treepers, lots of focused prayer for the speedy recovery of this young lady and peace for her family.
Though extremely serious this is not as devastating as it was just a few years ago. With early diagnosis and treatment I believe the survival from this condition is quite high. Though it does carry both physical and mental affects long term.
And a crass though it may be observation: Luckily Ron DeSantis is no Jo Biden.
Prayers for the DeSantis family.
Best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery and clean bill of health.
Prayers to Casey DeSantis, the Governor and their family.
Matthew 18:20“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Asking for a mighty healing Lord from all these Tree House prayers. Amen
What a beautiful family place we have here to gather for our Lord Jesus to be amongst us, to hear our heartfelt prayers.
praying for this precious young woman, who just shines, beams with those three little ones – praying for Casey, the Governor, those three little darling children and all of their family members – and of course, the doctors and nurses helping Casey.
How about where one is gathered in your name?
lorem ipsum, Deus. Lorem ipsum, quia fillii- pro amor. Pro vita.
God’s hand and healing upon Casey and the DeSantis family. Lots of heavenly prayer indeed.
I can only imagine the delightful sentiments coming from all the purehearts in the twittosphere.
Bless this family. DeSantis is one of the very few left in the GOP that has a backbone. He obviously has a good woman with him. God speed her full recovery.
Our nation is saddened by this diagnosis & prays for First Lady Casey, Governor Ron DeSantis & their family & friends.
Prayers for a full recovery.
Prayers indeed. God help Mrs. DeSantis recover and beat this plague.
May God bless and heal our future FLOTUS and future First Family of the United States.
“I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jer 29:11
Godspeed, Desantis family…..
God Bless the First Family Of Florida.
She can beat this. I am sure!
Praying for the family.
Damn it! Like Mr. DeSantis needs more hurdles. Thank you both for everything you are doing to MAGA.
Sorry to hear this. I’m wondering though if she was vaccinated…
Me too. I know of at least one person that cancer has come back since being vaxed. Two cases of Shingles too.
Hopeful that with early detection and prompt treatment Casey will make a full recovery.
Prayers sent. God can do all things. I believe.
Dear God
Please help Mrs Desantis to concur this terrible illness and please give strength and comfort to her and her husband and their children.
Amen.
Our God is a big God and praying for the DeSantis Family!!!!
Lord watch and keep them on this challenging journey for this entire beautiful young family.
Thoughts and prayers for my incredible guv and his lovely wife Casey.
May the Good Lord watch over you, and get well soon.
Sending prayers from Louisiana ?
May God Bless Casey DeSantis and heal her. May she and her family not suffer too much during this health ordeal.
? Prayers for this family and her healthcare professionals, in Jesus name.
Horrible news!
Just makes one wonder…was she vaxxed…and is this a side effect?
Please, not the right time…..
Thank you.
I was fortunate to attend the National Republican Women Federated bi-annual convention Sept 23-26 in Orlando Florida. Governor DeSantis was our keynote speaker Friday night. Such an amazing man. Casey was supposed to be with him that night but was absent. This may explain why. May God bless and keep Casey and her family in his loving healing hands.
Lord Jesus, please heal Casey DeSantis. Amen
Absolutely heartbroken!!
Sending healing prayers for our beautiful First Lady, and lifting up our wonderful governor and his little ones for all the comfort and strength that God can provide.
For the DeSantis family….
Wasn’t there a quote attributed to the governor over the weekend that he was not considering running in 2024 at this time. This could be one reason why. Prayers for the his wife and family.
