The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the August jobs report [Data Link Here] showing only 235,000 jobs created in August. Economists and financial analysts were predicting 750,000+.
While the financial punditry are jaw-agape with disappointment, these results are in line with the background data and should not have been a surprise. Within the BLS data you will note the retail sector lost 29,000 jobs, and the leisure and hospitality sector remained unchanged.
Massive inflation and price increases in fuel, gasoline, energy costs and food pricing is slowing down retail purchasing of non-essential goods. The working class are cutting back non-essential purchases and focusing on how to pay for groceries, electricity and gasoline. Connected to this checkbook issue, the working class are not spending on leisure and hospitality. Everyone is focused on making ends meet. Spending decisions are prioritized.
The government COVID subsidies have also created a false bottom. Service sector workers could make more money from COVID bailouts than they could by returning to work. Some families made the decision to stay home, drop the daycare cost for their kids, and actually net a higher overall income position from government relief funds. This dynamic is mostly noted in the lower tier of the income and wage earning employment category.
Government run education, local and state, also saw a drop in jobs of -26,000 simultaneous to kids returning to school. Why did this happen? Well, private sector education gained +40,000 jobs. This is in line with the cultural shift. There is so much COVID propaganda, and manipulation of teaching outcomes as a result of unionized education dictates around COVID, many parents have had enough with the nonsense, mask mandates and indoctrination and are taking their kids out of public schools.
We have yet to see the issues of low wage growth and higher costs-of-living hit the housing sector, but it will come. On a macro level mid-range home values peaked, then plateaued in late May and early June. New home construction has slowed significantly. These issues are all connected to a very serious drop in real wages. The current paychecks of the middle-class cannot keep pace with inflation, the result is less net income…. which means less spending…. with means less jobs in sectors that benefit from consumer spending.
Yes, there are regional housing markets with home/property values increasing. Not coincidentally, those markets are in the regions where COVID freedom is highest and government restrictions on the economy are lowest. However, on the overall macro level the housing/property values are flat now. People are hunkering down, making ends meet and having kitchen table conversations about spending priorities.
Remember, two-thirds of the U.S. economy is dependent on consumer spending. When consumer spending contracts, because worker wages are eaten up by price increases on unavoidable essential goods, the economy overall begins to stall out. This outcome of “stagflation” is the primary reason why so few jobs were created in August.
COVID will be blamed, but the root issue is massive inflation combined with government spending… which creates lower dollar values….. which creates even more inflation.

Under rules to be announced on Monday and put in place in October, average benefits will rise more than 25 percent from prepandemic levels. All 42 million people in the program will receive additional aid. This announcement is actually revealing in more ways than just the predictability of it.
♦ First, the 25% permanent increase is an admission by the Biden administration that food price inflation is here to stay. The massive scale of the increase also highlights the actual reality of how much food prices are rising. This massive and permanent increase directly undercuts the previous White House and Biden claims that inflation was “temporary”, “transitional” and likely to end soon.
However, to that point… remember, in order for leftist ideologues (Alinskly types) to continue advancing their ideological belief systems they have to pretend not to know things. They pretend not to know inflation is higher than it is, because they must continue making claims that are counter to the reality around us.
♦ Second, no massive increase for those on fixed-income social security. This does not go unnoticed and should anger everyone who is seeing their standard of living crushed by these insane Biden fiscal, monetary and economic policies.
♦ Third, now you can see the fingerprints of the background quid-pro-quo that led to the GOPe DeceptiCons agreeing to the massive “infrastructure spending bill.” I can guarantee you McConnell, Thune, Barasso, Ernst, Grassley and crew (all farm states with Big Ag lobbying money) already knew this massive hike in foodstamp and SNAP assistance was coming. This was the deal that bought their votes. This is what the DeceptiCons got out of it.
Part of the lobbying in the food industry by BigAg multinationals is to advocate for the expansion of U.S. taxpayer benefits to underwrite the costs of the domestic food products they control. By lobbying DC, these multinational corporations get congress and policy-makers to expand the basis of who can use Food Stamps, EBT and SNAP benefits (state reimbursement rates). Expanding the federal subsidy for food purchases is part of the corporate profit dynamic.
With increased taxpayer subsidies, the food price controllers (BigAg Multinationals) can charge more domestically and export more of the product internationally. Taxes, via subsidies, go into their profit margins. The corporations then use a portion of those enhanced profits in contributions to the politicians. It’s a circle of money.
THINK COMMON SENSE – If Joe Biden and crew thought the economy was genuinely going to grow; and if the Biden administration really planned on creating jobs; the administration would not be raising welfare payments. According to radio host John Fredericks, Georgia state officials have been given video evidence of more than 200 leftwing operatives he called ballot traffickers dumping tens of thousands of bogus votes into drop boxes in the middle of the night in locations across the state. Retired Magistrate here: If you currently own a house keep it in good repair; however, do not spend a lot of money updating it. You will not get your money back now. The housing market here in Central Ohio peaked in June and is now flat. This is the first time in months I have actually seen people reducing prices on houses for sale and they still aren’t moving.
Grocery stores still have sales; stock up on sale items and use coupons. Stock up on canned goods and other non perishables. If you have a garden freeze your produce.
Shop at yard sales and thrift stores. Start Christmas shopping now at these places and store your items. Keep your car in good running order and store extra gas in the appropriate gas cans. If you can lock in fuel oil, natural gas and propane prices do it now.
Do everything you can to conserve and take care of what you have. Eat healthy, get exercise, take Vitamin C, D and other natural items to support your immune system. Do your own research and make a plan for what is best for you and your family regarding the covid 19 shot. Do not trust the CDC, etc. to be responsible for your health; you are responsible for your health and taking care of your family.
Above all, put your faith and trust in GOD; we need to turn back to HIM.

After restaurants and bars opened up by me last year I got 2 beers and a hamburger. The bill came to the table and it was $31.75. The beers were 9.00 EACH. I came home and told my wife I’m building a neighborhood bar in my garage because I refuse to spend that much money anymore. I started my garage build and it official opened (beer flowing but not fully constructed) July 4th 2021 when we had a huge party. The name of my bar is The Steel Patriot. Two 1/4 kegs fit my converted fridge and I charge $1.00 a pint to cover the keg costs. I use it for neighborhood gatherings and “patriotic” meetings. $500 is my budget and so far the most expensive thing is a 10 foot live red oak bar top for 220. I’ll have more pics when I’m finished

That’s awesome. I built a garage bar for my youngest daughter during the scamdemic. It’s become the gathering place for all their friends. As a business I already pay over 50% taxes when sales tax is combined with income tax. The Govt’ is truly insane.

They just implemented masks here in PA. I can get a medical excuse for my son because he has mild asthma, but the doc who had called covid a scam a year ago (and said it’s just a flu), is now requiring me to sign something saying he isn’t liable. He seemed more concerned about the delta thing. He said n95 masks work – but the students can sit next to each other at lunch without masks? At least he did agree he would sign it. But he almost tried to shame me for doing it. Really disappointed in him, since he was onboard prior.
I can’t home school but he do online like last year, but that was mostly a waste as they just watch boring videos and learn almost nothing.
Tough decisions to make quickly….Oh – and to add to the mix, my ex-wife wanted to have my 13 year old get the vax or he couldn’t go to school. I won that battle….in school but no vax, and now they pull this mask crap again.
Mastriano and Ward from PA have already drafted legislation giving parents the right to decide. Hopefully that goes through.
Surreal world we live in….Freedoms being taken away by the minute.

We can help that wonderful diner in Florida where the owner posted a sign asking Biden supporters to take their business elsewhere, make their numbers go through the roof, and support our vets all at the same time!
The owner is taking a lot of heat and hate (death threats, bomb threats, etc) but is also getting lots of support. And she serves a lot of vets at her restaurant. If you want to pay for a vet’s meal, you can call the diner and buy a gift card which they will use to cover vet’s meals. They’ve been so overwhelmed with support they set up the gift card system in order to handle the flow of calls.

In my area, there are A LOT of jobs available, but no one wants to work. Mac Donalds is paying almost 15 an hour. Jiffy Lube and places like that can’t keep employees. It is definitely a worker’s market when it comes to low end jobs.
It’s a triple win for the left. They’ve forced employers to increase the hourly wage for entry level work that requires minimal skill, they’ve set the stage to argue for the need to import a labor force, and with covid relief they inched us closer to making the case for guaranteed income for all.
They check mate us every freaking time.
Restaurants and tourist shops in my area are closing early (turning customers away at the door) due to lack of staff. I never saw anything like this, ever. I asked the owner of a large grocery store recently why there are always so many new faces there? He said he hires young people, and when they learn they may need to work weekends, they quit, saying that’s when they party and go out with their friends and have no time to work on weekends.
Some banks are having limited hrs or business days when they have to close due to lack of staffing. The left must be loving every minute of this as they create chaos and heap suffering upon hard-working Americans who just want to live their life and be left alone.
It’s not just low end jobs. It’s middle class jobs too. In the last 18 months, everyone who was able to retire did so, and many, many others pursued other opportunities outside the rat race, and are never going back. More boomers will be out in the next two to five years. Tons of high paying postings in my area, and it’s not a super major metro area.
Yeah, good point. That’s another huge cohort that has left the job market. It’s getting very difficult to find skilled labor these days due, in part, to those older guys who were so good at plumbing, electric, carpentry, dry wall, you name it.

Out and about in western Maine yesterday. Nearly every business had a Help Wanted sign. The local BK and McDonalds are closed for indoor “dining” and not because of muh Delta; but because they can’t get enough staff to work the floors…and they’re offering $14.50 to start. Maine has become Heaven for dead beats with their legalized pot and EBT cards. At BJ’s, the couple in line in front of us…both obese, both on scooters…paid with EBT. Cart stuffed with crap like two huge boxes of Lucky Charms, and 4, 1 gal containers of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Sick!
