Earlier today the occupant of the White House, or someone on his behalf, released a written statement on the current status of the Afghanistan crisis:
WHITE HOUSE – “This morning, I met with my national security team in Washington and my commanders in the field. We discussed the strike that U.S. forces took last night against the terrorist group ISIS-K in Afghanistan. I said we would go after the group responsible for the attack on our troops and innocent civilians in Kabul, and we have. This strike was not the last. We will continue to hunt down any person involved in that heinous attack and make them pay. Whenever anyone seeks to harm the United States or attack our troops, we will respond. That will never be in doubt. I thanked General McKenzie for his leadership of that mission, and for his commitment to the safety of our troops in Afghanistan.
The situation on the ground continues to be extremely dangerous, and the threat of terrorist attacks on the airport remains high. Our commanders informed me that an attack is highly likely in the next 24-36 hours. I directed them to take every possible measure to prioritize force protection, and ensured that they have all the authorities, resources and plans to protect our men and women on the ground. They assured me that they did, and that they could take these measures while completing the mission and safely retrograding our personnel.
Despite the treacherous situation in Kabul, we are continuing to evacuate civilians. Yesterday, we brought out another 6,800 people, including hundreds of Americans. And today, we discussed the ongoing preparations to help people continue to leave Afghanistan after our military departs.
The 13 service members that we lost were heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our highest American ideals and while saving the lives of others. Their bravery and selflessness has enabled more than 117,000 people at risk to reach safety thus far. May God protect our troops and all those standing watch in these dangerous days. (read more)

Lots of women will take offense at that comment…but he was absolutely correct. You can only stop force with greater force, and very few women, even with training, have even a slight chance of beating an adult male in hand-to-hand combat. Putting women in situations where they might face such combat is either insanity or the work of someone who wants to sabotage the organization they belong to.

Our church and our daughter’s continue to get bad reports of the massacre of our affiliated church members in Afghanistan. Her church members here were on the phone with members over there the other day, praying and singing, accepting and at peace of what they knew was their looming fate, and that phone call ended with screams and gunshots. It was just a horrific story as told to me. I know they died with their brothers and sisters in Christ praying for them. I give thanks that we don’t face that here (yet).
We really are witnessing evil by our government, imo.

Start putting all those in harm’s way in your prayers. Ask God to punish all those responsible. Daily. Ask all you know to do the same.

I think our psyches and our bodies are on overload and it’s taking a significant toll. I think whatevs suggestion is very wise, which is to think smaller. It’s very hard because what’s surrounding us is so enormous. But that’s all the more reason to zero in on the trees in the forest, otherwise the enormity of it all feels as if it will consume us.
Sometimes it helps me to remember how human beings around the world throughout human history suffered through unthinkable horrors and I wonder, how did they do it. Now feels like it’s our time and we are trying to figure out how to move through this dark time with our sanity and our life in tact. And we’re having to dig deep within ourselves to find strength we never knew we had.
One thing that may also be coming into play right now is survivor guilt. So that on top of how harrowing the past 18 months have been, we’re watching what’s unfolding in Afghanistan and perhaps feel like it’s even more difficult to do something nice for ourselves, even something small, as abigail suggests like making an nice family meal, because there’s an unconscious voice that feels guilty to do something nice when Americans halfway around the world are in grave danger and some have just been blown to bits.
It’s hard.
Find something that brings you a bit of joy. Sometimes it can even shift one’s spirit to smile broadly. Sometimes you don’t have to work it from inside out, but outside in by engaging in activities or behaviors that are soothing and taking care of oneself, even very small gestures.
When I first started visiting this site, one of the messages Sundance put out that really hit me and has struck with me, is the message to live your best life. It’s an important message and I hope you can find a way. We are all struggling mightily.

Thank you for posting this. Have been following his work closely and eager for updates, but there haven’t been any today. I can’t even imagine how chaotic it is trying to put all these moving parts together in the middle of a war zone and then having your own State Dept thwart you. G-d bless Glenn and all of those working with him along with other people who are on the ground trying to rescue people. Who ever could have imagined that we would face something like there, where our own government aligns with evil and does everything in its power to block good.

For those who have never seen TAKING CHANCE, it seems an appropriate time to suggest it. An extremely poignant movie about the bringing home of a fallen Marine. And for those not familiar with the incredibly tender and respectful care taken in getting any fallen soldier to his/her family, as I was not, it is one that never leaves you.

I watched the father of one of those young men on Tucker Carlson describe how he waited praying they did not show up to his door…but they did.
He described every detail of the moments leading up to that in great detail. I will never forget it. It makes me cry just thinking about how he described it.
