Before the House votes on a bill, it has a separate vote on what the rules will be when the bill gets to the floor. The rules votes is often more important because it may limit amendments, speech times, etc.
The rules on the reconciliation bill (not yet passed in the Senate, and to which Manchin and Sinema are “opposed,”) state that there will be a vote in the infrastructure (passed by the Senate by the 27th.
Pelosi is afraid the House members will pass the infrastructure and then too many of her caucus will say, “That’s enough spending.”

The reconciliation bill has been passed by the House, so, yes, all that is left is to get it past the Senate. A reconciliation bill only needs a simple majority, so Harris can break the tie, if Sinema and Manchin cave (which they likely will after a few million is shaved off.)

I come from a navy background so I may not have all this down. If the mission is to withdraw and leave then the military’s priority is to protect troops and assets not civilians. If the mission was stated that protecting civilians in the withdrawal then that wasn’t made clear. Gauging from the scrambling ti get safe havens for civilians the mission changed very late in the game. That being said Buden Milley and Austun has 7 months to get civilians out of Afghanustan secure Kabul and prep recipient nations and logistics. Tell me what I’m missing here.

I mentioned this on another thread. I’m from a navy background so I may not be grabbing all this but when there is a military withdrawal the priority is to preserve troops and assets not protect and escort civilians. Kabul was not secured. Bahram evacuates without notice to allies. This tells me miltary assets were priority. You might be thinking of a military withdrawal due to overwhelming enemy opposition.
That wasn’t why we were withdrawing. We were in a position of strength in Afghanistan, and should have evacuated civilians, withdrawn data, weapons, vehicles. Destroy what we couldn’t take that would be helpful to Taliban. Then withdraw our armed forces from a position of strength.

It was a sacred vow all of us Marines took to one another in our infantry platoon.
If some of us were to die on the battlefield, we would make sure their bodies would be recovered and sent home to the USA for burial by their grieving families.
It is my firm belief the US Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines members would line up until you saw the curvature of the earth to participate to rescue fellow Americans in Afghanistan.

I’d bet heavily that the Taliban are holding embassy staff and other Americans hostage to ensure that the US military doesn’t start dropping bombs & missiles all over the place to destroy as much as possible of our abandoned military equipment.

Seth Barron’s piece in the American Mind does a pretty good job of pointing the real fingers of blame in the right direction.
It is impossible that our military planners had done absolutely nothing to plan for an orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan. They knew what had to be done, how to do it, and WHEN to do all the little things necessary. Instead, in a temper tantrum against Biden going ahead with our withdrawal, they chose the most politically damaging way to make it happen. It was willful, and it was tantamount to insurrection, if not treason.
The one thing that Barron gets very wrong in his piece (in the very last paragraph) is that he thinks Harris will be the savior of the MIC <i>elites</i>, and will follow their orders. I’m convinced that Harris is utterly unable to even appear “Presidential” and that she would never allow the MIC elites to order her around.
It seems that the people controlling Biden, (Obama, Rice, Jarrett, Brennan, et al,) had two goals: 1) Leave as many weapons as possible to the Taliban, (and Muslim Brotherhood,) and 2) Get as many Jihadists into the US as possible.
