The governors office says “suspending the reading, writing and math proficiency requirements … will benefit “Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.”
In essence, the students of color are not smart enough to learn reading, writing or math – so they shouldn’t be expected to read, write or understand mathematics.
Kate Brown looks, sounds and acts like a typical left-wing moonbat. It’s hard to imagine a state governor saying the minority students in the state are not smart enough to pass proficiency standards; thereby signaling her extreme racist perspectives- and gaining cheers from her leftist tribe; yet here we are.

Brown’s decision was not public until recently, because her office did not hold a signing ceremony or issue a press release and the fact that the governor signed the bill was not entered into the legislative database until July 29, a departure from the normal practice of updating the public database the same day a bill is signed.

How will graduating illiterate and innumerate students help anyone?
These new skill-free citizens add to the voter base of the socialist-democrat state. This is by design. They will immediately begin collecting federal (printed) dollars for food and rental assistance. They will get free healthcare (medicaid). If they ever held a job then they also qualify for (never ending) unemployment benefits. This ensures reliable socialist-democrat support at election time to keep these benefit lifelines in place.
This policy also starves private enterprise of talented employees. This is also by design. As private companies dwindle away, state and local taxes go up for those that remain, further pressuring companies to close or move out of state. More (printed) federal money then flows from DC to fill the state’s revenue gap.
Elimination of productive, independent, hard working people ensures the state will have an integral part in the lives of the remaining population.

This is nothing more than having quasi citizens be eligible for jobs and benefits primarily their source of voter base increase. How many teachers are elated to not have to teach while getting paid? How many employers are weighing real ramifications of this illogical law?

Oregonian here… suggest on the west side of the state, many have drunk the KoolAid and have lost the power of reason, of critical thinking. Many, many are NOT ‘progressives’ -but Oregon has had mail-in ONLY voting for quite a few years; time enough to figure out how to work ALL the angles to make the elections come out however they want. We had some really good candidates in 2020, people had hope they could turn this all around in our state without becoming part of “Greater Idaho,” but… did you know the elections director was FIRED by the Secretary of State in the MIDDLE OF COUNTING BALLOTS? He was shocked, said he had planned on leaving at the end of December, but would NEVER consider walking out in the middle of tabulating votes and there was no reason given for being fired BY MEMO – not even in a face-to-face with the SoS. Guess he was too honest and they evidently didn’t want to go the way of other states and change votes in the middle of the night. Or did they?

Yep, been trending Commie since the late 90’s when the mail-in-only deal was passed. The vast majority of the state, geographically, is somewhat to very conservative. Forex, even with mail in voting, my county voted Trump over Biden by a healthy margin, like 66/33. The core of the state from Eugene north pretty much runs the Commie show. By core I mean along I-5.
We also need to watch out for turncoats like Bentz. He represents a huge portion of the state geographically, which is overwhelmingly conservative territory. His GOP moniker these days smells more like Uniparty. Districting is also a problem in Oregon.

What kind of job is there that would not require some basic reading skills? To fill out a job app you would have to be able to read and write and if you have to count at all that is math. The three main cities and their metro areas in the Communist center alone account for nearly a third of Oregon’s population. That’s Portland, Salem and Eugene. The influence radiates out from those population centers into nearby regions which depend on them for survival.
The rest of the state, its size dwarfing those population centers geographically, is sparsely populated so those voters are, comparatively, few and far between and more likely to be rugged individualists who aren’t politically active or savvy. They’re more about trying to survive.
Also, outside of those population centers, Oregon is more dependent on tourism and natural resources, fishing and logging being two big ones, and those have been systematically decimated by public and private interests over the decades and are generally shells of what they once were, with commensurate damage to the population.
Right now we’re watching the lumber ‘shortage’ and IDK from what I’ve seen locally at the mills it sure appears to be a contrived shortage. Plenty of drivers and trucks available, the rough and finished yards are bulging but things just don’t seem to be moving. There was a time when someone with an eighth grade education could easily drive truck or work in the mills or apprentice as a logger. Plenty did. Big business and government killed all that stuff, not to mention 8th grade back in the day was vastly different from what it is today.

College graduates earn more money, so send them to college for “free” to party for four to six years, then give them a degree. It’s the typical knee-jerk, short-term thinking of the left. We’ve already seen degree inflation. Without a masters, my former company would not hire me today. What’s next? Give everyone a PhD without the expectation of being able to read, write, or add?
