For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Souther is one of my seventies favorites.
The harmony he does with Linda Ronstadt on Prisoner in Disguise is in serious goosepimple territory. I’ve tried the tune many times over the years and only two singers of my acquaintance ever came even close…
I’m reading Hotel California at the moment. It’s an excellent history of 70’s LA “country rock” music. The book is very well researched. The author conducted extensive interviews in the 90’s and 2000’s and does a good job of explaining how everything and everybody related to each other. Ronstadt and Souther were a couple in the late 60’s . . . until Souther rather intentionally ruined things. You have to wonder about a person’s level of emotional intelligence who was runnin’ around on Linda Ronstadt . . . Hotel California is a good read.
I might get it. Not my usual type of history reading but sounds interesting.
I’m reading Blood And Thunder. A biography of Kit Carson.
I’ll have to read that, thanks. The recent documentary on Ronstadt was fascinating to me because it mentioned so many of the songwriters she helped such as Karla Bonoff, Wendy Waldman…
Yes. she was for more influential than many other signer-songwriters—male or female. Sadly, because of the time, the drugs, and the people her relationships didn’t work out. Those guys missed a life=relationships with a wonderful companian. She didn’t abandon her Tuscon upbringing and values but they simply didn’t/couldn’t measure up to the kind of people her father and relatives represented. Now, it’s their loss. I wonder how many of those guys, looking back, realize how they screwed up and just what they missed. That reality is really a sad element of that era. They could write songs about the sngst but they still lived it. For many, all they ended up with was ashes . . . But not Linda.

Who’d Christ Come to Save?
By Pastor Ricky Kurth
Years ago, a brokerage firm known as E. F. Hutton aired a TV commercial that featured two people talking about financial investing in the midst of a crowded room. When one said to the other, “Well, my broker is E. F. Hutton, and E. F. Hutton says…,” all the people around them hushed their conversations, and leaned toward them so as not to miss out on E. F. Hutton’s advice. I thought of this recently when I read I Timothy 1:15:
“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…”
Imagine you’re not saved, and you’re hearing that verse read in church. If the pastor paused at the word “save” to turn the page, I daresay you’d lean forward in your seat in eagerness so as not to miss out on hearing who Christ had come to save. How thankful you would be when you heard He came to save sinners, for if you are honest you have to admit that you are among the “all” who “have sinned” (Rom. 3:23).
But the news would not have been as good for you had you been a Gentile reading the Bible before the inclusion of Paul’s epistles. When the angel told Joseph that his wife Mary would bear a son, he added, “He shall save His people from their sins” (Mt. 1:21), and the Lord’s people were Jews. Aren’t you glad the Apostle Paul later made it clear that Christ came to save sinners, whether they be Jew or Gentile?
When Paul says that this saying is “worthy of all acceptation,” he means there is no part of it that is not worthy for you to believe and accept. That’s not true of all old sayings! They say there is nothing certain in this world except death and taxes, but that saying is not worthy of all of your acceptation if you are saved. There will always be taxes, but your death is anything but sure since the Rapture might come in your lifetime! We Christians aren’t looking for the undertaker, we’re looking for the Uppertaker (Tit. 2:13).
But if you’re not saved, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” is a saying that is worthy of all your acceptation! Christ did come into the world, and He came to save sinners like you. If the greatest need of men were education, God would have sent us a teacher. If our greatest need were money, He would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need were philosophy, He would have sent us a philosopher. But our greatest need was salvation, so He sent us a Savior who died for our sins and rose again (I Cor. 15:3,4). “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31).
https://www.bereanbiblesociety.org/whod-christ-come-to-save/
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
“But the news would not have been as good for you had you been a Gentile reading the Bible before the inclusion of Paul’s epistles. When the angel told Joseph that his wife Mary would bear a son, he added, “He shall save His people from their sins” (Mt. 1:21), and the Lord’s people were Jews. Aren’t you glad the Apostle Paul later made it clear that Christ came to save sinners, whether they be Jew or Gentile?”
A Gentile at that time could have read about God’s redemption plan for all the nations starting in the first chapter of the Bible:
Genesis 18:18 — “Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?”
Genesis 22:18 — “And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”
Genesis 26:4 “And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed”
The notion of Gentiles, also known as “the nations”, being extended grace and mercy by God through national Israel and the holy people that God called them to be is reflected through Old Testament Scripture. Invitations were extended for foreigners to participate in the Passover or make offerings under the same regulations as Israelites (cf. Exodus 12:48-49, Numbers 9:14, 15:14-16), as well as for those from afar to come to pray at the Temple and receive blessing that “all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You” (cf. 1 Kings 8:41-43).
Even the land promised to the twelve tribes of Israel contained this provision as far as inheritance, per Ezekiel 47:21-23 — “You are to divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. You shall allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the foreigners who dwell among you and who have children. You are to treat them as native-born Israelites; along with you, they shall be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel. In whatever tribe the foreigner dwells, you are to assign his inheritance there, declares the Lord GOD.”
In John 10:16, Jesus indicated a key aspect of His ministry: “And I have other sheep which are not of this fold. It behooves Me to bring those also, and they will hear My voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.”
Even before Paul arrived on the scene, the Holy Spirit was directing disciples to minister to those foreigners who were searching the Scriptures, as in Acts 8. There, an Ethiopian eunuch was reading from the latter chapters of Isaiah, in which was contained one of the clearest OT references to God’s desire to reconcile those from the nations to Himself:
Isaiah 56:3-8 “Do not let the son of the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord speak, saying, ‘The Lord has utterly separated me from His people’; nor let the eunuch say, “Here I am, a dry tree.” For thus says the Lord: ‘To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, and choose what pleases Me, and hold fast My covenant, even to them I will give in My house, and within My walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.’
‘Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants—everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and holds fast My covenant—even them I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.’ The Lord God, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, says, ‘Yet I will gather to him others besides those who are gathered to him.’”
Significantly, the disciple Phillip was used by the Holy Spirit to start with the book of Isaiah being read and then “proclaimed the good news to him (the Ethiopian)—Jesus” (cf. Acts 8:35).
Excellent piece Mr/s Monroe.
” ……for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.’ The Lord God, who gathers the outcasts of Israel,…..”
I get the feeling that many people do not understand the notion of “the 12 tribes of Israel”. Israel being associated as solely Hebrew or Jewish.
This is not correct – according to scripture (Torah) 10 of the 12 tribes were “left behind in the desert”. Only 2 went forth into the promised land.
The “left behind” are US – spread into and throughout the world, originally carrying with us the oral teachings of our common “father” Abraham.
Pretty obviously we kinda lost the original plot as it were, but still the “core” remains, from the Bushmen of the Kalahari to the Aboriginals of Australia, to the shamans of the Americas.
If one peels away the distortions and varying “descriptions” each and all point to a common source and “awareness” of the Creator.
I find this “battle” between the “religions” ridiculous – if each and everyone of us looked deeper and actually DID what we ALL acknowledge is the right (and the whole point really) thing – that is to treat each and every other human being, the rest of creation, and ourselves with dignity, respect and compassion, which I believe is the instruction, whether given by Jesus, Paul, Mohammad, Buddha, the Dali Lama, Krishna, or any of the righteous and holy people. Truth is truth. And the sooner we all acknowledge that truth, that we ALL originate from the same source, with the same instructions and commandments, as given to us way back (the twelve tribes). “….for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” – BINGO.
All the tribes were assigned and occupied territory in the Holy Land.
Solomon’s children split the kingdom into two. The northern kingdom (9 1/2 tribes) was carried away to captivity and “lost”. The southern kingdom (2 1/2 tribes) survived that attack but their leaders were later carried away after losing a different war. When Persia conquered all, the captive jews were returned and restored to leadership in a vassal state. Then Alexander conquered Persia and the holy land was ruled by Greeks. A revolt or two later, eventually Rome conquered parts and took control of the rest. A revolt or two after that and Jews were in major trouble. Eventually leadership was in Babylon. Jesus ministered and was crucified under Rome before those last two rebellions.
You have lost quite a lot of knowledge. But to have lost discernment too is quite sad. To make no distinction between a deceitful murdering prophet and the holy men with whom you group him. Just sad.
As for MY knowledge, I grant you I have very little, but as to the knowledge of scripture, I would defer to the wise and righteous men, both past and present, who CAN and DO understand the ancient and preserved writings in the ORIGINAL, that was and still is held by the chosen people. If you want to pick an argument with them – be my guest – perhaps one may be able to point out their errors, or “look at it this way” – nobody I know claims to have the whole thing figured out 100%, but I have listened to some pretty deep souls, who DO appear to be close. If you believe calling a person “a deceitful murdering prophet” (perhaps in error) but followed (and loved) by millions of people is going to bring about ..”.for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”I figure we’ll be in for a rinse repeat cycle of the scriptures until we have the ability to completely destroy ourselves – as in extinction. O wait, that’s NOW.
half of what I talked about is scriptural history. the stuff about the tribes is there in the bible for anybody to read. the rest are little details that can be easily found to fill in some of the gaps.
one of the big breakpoints in christianity was enabled by the printing press. people could see for themselves what the scriptures say, not rely on an authority to tell them. of course this meant a rapid breaking into disagreements over what the bible really says and which parts are important. and there is merit in heeding wisdom of authority, so even protestants formed sects around the teachings of man. and most hire ‘experts’ to guide them.
still, it is vastly worthwhile to find out for yourself. though some parts are hard slogging. and doing so is not a panacea. even followers of Koresh read the bible. probably knew it better than I. yet their take made them fodder for someone else’s dreams of martyrdom.
people aren’t perfect, but most want to be good. the prophet teaching his followers that doing some evil things will be thought of as good has horrible consequences to this day. and they justify themselves not only by his recorded words, but by his recorded acts as well. this may only be 10%, but 10% of a billion is a lot of people. and the 90% can’t speak against them without being blasphemers.
yes he has good things in his scripture too. and the 90% can hold onto this good. but timing is important. much was part of his being obsequious to those who held power. other parts were written to recruit jews and christians by including parts of their religion. but he was able to turn the tables on those who held power and changed to what I described. being later, these changes to encourage evil acts take precedence over earlier teachings to do good. so the 90% can’t win.
which in the end, makes them no better than the rank and vile in the FBI who do not take stands against the evil being worked by their fellows. but unlike the FIB they have a built in excuse. unlike their motto, there is no fidelity or integrity in the FIB. Bravery, maybe, but only to do evil.
Jim
From the horses mouth as it were – if you, I or anyone disagrees, it’s their choice, as it has always been.
However when such an amazing wealth of knowledge is offered (many, many lectures and teachings) what possible harm can it be to listen and learn??. If after a honest introspection, one feels and believes that what they current hold is providing all the spiritual and emotional needs necessary to “walk in the presence of the Lord” – to be “connected”, saved, awake, on a higher plane, enlightened, whatever – a person will know – then hold true to what you have – because surely it all MUST arrive at the same exact conclusion??. “In the beginning God……… . Why we need to kill ourselves over interpretations really just feels a little juvenile to me. Anyway – I believe in this holy man 100%

Good morning, 🙂
Have a blessed Sunday, Treepers. Always know that Our Lord loves us without any reservation. He loves us because we are His children. If you believe in Him, if you can accept Christ as your savior, then you will understand redemption. Belief is simple. Acceptance is simple. His offer of acceptance is always there. He’s in this for keeps. Be well, Treepers.

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

AM I BLESSED LIKE THIS?
“Blessed are…” Matthew v. 3-10
When we first read the statements of Jesus they seem wonderfully simple and unstartling, and they sink unobserved into our unconscious minds. For instance, the Beatitudes seem merely mild and beautiful precepts for all unworldly and useless people, but of very little practical use in the stern workaday world in which we live. We soon find, however, that the Beatitudes contain the dynamite of the Holy Ghost. They explode, as it were, when the circumstances of our lives cause them to do so. When the Holy Spirit brings to our remembrance one of these Beatitudes we say – ‘What a startling statement that is!’ and we have to decide whether we will accept the tremendous spiritual upheaval that will be produced in our circumstances if we obey His words. That is the way the Spirit of God works. We do not need to be born again to apply the Sermon on the Mount literally. The literal interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount is child’s play; the interpretation by the Spirit of God as He applies Our Lord’s statements to our circumstances is the stern work of a saint.
The teaching of Jesus is out of all proportion to our natural way of looking at things and it comes with astonishing discomfort to begin with. We have slowly to form our walk and conversation on the line of the precepts of Jesus Christ as the Holy Spirit applies them to our circumstances. The Sermon on the Mount is not a set of rules and regulations: it is a statement of the life we will live when the Holy Spirit is getting His way with us.

✟
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
Thank You, Jesus, for blessings received and prayers answered!!!
BE MY VOICE
Amen
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen.

I’ve often wondered about the Legionaries Paul would have spent 24/7/365 with.
Was it regarded as “cushy” “lite duty” for a recovering Soldier? An unscrupulous one would have plenty of opportunities for “shaking down” a Prisoner, his visitors, friends and kin.
At least it got them out of Training (“their drills are bloodless battles”).
Maybe Commanders regarded it as a reward.
Or maybe it was a “crap detail” given to the biggest “gold bricks”.
On the other hand, while every Army has its foul ups, the Roman Legions gained a reputation for efficiently rewarding excellence, courage and loyalty; and an even more potent reputation for punishing screw ups.
In either case, after a week or two with Paul their unit would have received back a better soldier, comrade, and man.
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.

My Pre-Reformation Church History Proff at Duke Divinity was a Roman Catholic scholar. I don’t think she was an actual Nun, but she was an ascetic.
In fact she was so thin and frail, in spite of being only early middle aged, some of us were worried she was taking her fasting a bit too far.
She began every lecture with a reading about a Martyred Saint. Many a time the whole class was reduced to tears.
Powerful stuff. Nearly 3 decades has not faded the memory.
“A powerful warrior in [Christ’s] camp.” as C.S. Lewis says.
Thanks for this interesting memory to share. Somewhat like being at table for a meal in a monastery or convent. Trapeza.

Answer: the covid jab does NOT prevent reinfection with covid-19 or any variant. The claim is now that it merely reduces the severity of subsequent infections (that is, of course, provided you survive the initial jab).

Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
