I am really interested in the opinion of this story from readers who remember the era, tactics and strategies of former GOP consultant ¹Lee Atwater. I cannot read this bizarre and unstable story without thinking about the stuff Atwater used to do….
The Tampa Bay, Florida, area congressional seat currently occupied by Charlie Crist is going to be vacant as Crist runs for Florida Governor in 2022 against republican Ron DeSantis.
As a result there are many people lining up to run for the Tampa area congressional district. One of the leading republican candidates is Paulina Luna who lost to Crist in 2020 (local election ballot fraud not withstanding).
However, a story in Politico today outlines a lower-tier GOP candidate threatening to kill Paulina Luna if it looks like she will win the primary. The entire story is beyond weird, including how and why someone would have begun recording the conversation in the first place; then the goofy story is delivered to lefty Politico exclusively (ergo very Atwater-esque).
MIAMI — A little-known GOP candidate in one of Florida’s most competitive congressional seats was secretly recorded threatening to send “a Russian and Ukrainian hit squad” to a fellow Republican opponent to make her “disappear.”
During a 30-minute call with a conservative activist that was recorded before he became a candidate, William Braddock repeatedly warned the activist to not support GOP candidate Anna Paulina Luna in the Republican primary for a Tampa Bay-area congressional seat because he had access to assassins. The seat is being vacated by Rep. Charlie Crist (D-Fla.), who is running for governor.

Before I retired from law enforcement, I used to joke that every scumbag criminal from New York has lived in Florida or Texas at some point in their life.
The warrants would get issued, winter would approach, and the dirtbags would flee down south.
Next Spring, they’d return like the swallows to Capistrano, usually with outstanding warrants from wherever the overwintered, and I’d be waiting for them.

This next election is probably going to be one of Florida’s craziest.
Lee Atwater was infamous for his “dirty tricks”, most of which involved planting and spreading scurrilous stories about opponents that were untrue but that affected elections by suppressing those who might otherwise have voted for the opponent. My recollection is that Atwater’s bag of dirty nasty campaign tricks never included physically harming or killing anyone.
That said, IMHO Atwater was “junior league” compared to the violence that has been perpetrated against Deep State Democrat’s opponents and anyone who would expose the Left’s crimes since the Clintons came onto the national political scene (JFK notwithstanding).
Atwater was following in LBJ’s footsteps.

I live in Pinellas County. If this is true regarding a candidate threatening Luna’s life (I’m not doubting it) it’s of course beyond ludicrous. But I will tell you that among hardcore MAGAites, in Pinellas County, she is NOT in favor or popular. I attend what I will call MAGA events and it’s obvious. They are not happy regarding “the person that drives the red sports car”. I’m not sure why. I haven’t asked. Maybe I should. Maybe it’s because she’s regarded as a weak candidate (for whatever reasons). Or as having RINO tendencies. And maybe I should not have posted this. And it might not matter. But it’s not conjecture.

I listened to Erin O.’s undercover video and descriptions of “Twilight Zone” hospitals in NYC last spring when people were dying in droves.
One reason they were dying, as Erin O described it, was mixing of infectious patients with stroke patients; ventilators run at too-high settings on uber-sedated victims; refusal to use HCQ; and more.
Erin has seen psychopath politics at work in NYC, enough to believe it is insanity when she sees it. I suspect Erin O did the right thing by recording. And if this Luna is a friend of hers, I would tend to give some credit on that account

Sundance, Lee Atwater played hardball (I wish more on our side did), but he was conservative. I’ve never read or seen anything to indicate that he was anything other than a conservative who genuinely SUPPORTED Reagan.
Rove was a Rockefeller Republican. He has always been an establishment RINO and his support for Reagan was merely tactical, not philosophical or ideological.
However, I would greatly appreciate anything that corrects or illuminates my knowledge base regarding Atwater.
Atwater would hit below the belt on occasion. Atwater was head of the RNC when Tom Foley – touted as a moderate – became Speaker of the House. A memo went out to Congressional Republicans showing that Foley’s voting record was as liberal as Barney Frank’s (true), but also implied that Foley was also gay like Barney Frank.
The memo was criticized by Republicans, and an the RNC communications chairman fell on his sword and resigned.
Below the belt is fine when dealing with Democrats. You make my point. Atwater was the last truly rough and dirty Republican consultant.

But being the predecessor of Rove is unfair. Atwater was–from everything I ever read–a true conservative and a Reagan supporter. I KNOW Rove was NOT.
There’s a little known, but fascinating history between Rove and Brent Bozell (who I believe was related by marriage to WFB if memory serves).
I read something a while back where Bozell detested Rove and called him out–dirty laundry and all. Somebody on this site will either confirm or correct my foggy memory of this. But my point is this: Rove was always a snake–a RINO opportunist. The fact that he apprenticed under Atwater just means that Atwater failed (or more likely did not see) in his mentorship.

A spokesperson for the St. Petersburg police declined to comment on the recording or whether it was legally recorded. Braddock, though, indicated he was ready to sue Olszewski.
He’s going to claim that he was drunk and/or it wasn’t serious, and/or it was just fantasy venting, and/or it was edited, and/or he was setting her up because he suspected that she had been recording him to try to get campaign dirt. And meanwhile, there’s a proved felony and actionable civil case. So who knows how this will play.
